SUMMARY: set in the timeline of Avengers(2012), this is before Loki’s attack on new york. he is spending his days idling in shops, reading, while waiting for Erik Selvig to finish his calculations so the plans can be charted out. thats when he is suddenly approached by a young woman (OC or original character), who says, “I find your look very aesthetically pleasing so would you mind if I base the character of my book on you please?”

WORD COUNT: 1698 words churned out in a 1 am whirlpool of nonsensical ideas Im sorry

WARNINGS: none, really.

this is my first ever fanfic so if my facts or words are wrong and stupid please just gloss over my mistakes thanks

also tagging the awesome  @minnie-marvel because she was kind enough to agree to be tagged to my stories if i should ever write them, and promised to provide “constructive criticism”

and @loverofbumblebees just because she is the first person who spoke to me here (i hope im not troubling you with this im sorry if i am)

TITLE : AESTHETICALLY PLEASING MONSTER

Loki X OC

Out of the corner of her eye, she couldn’t help but notice. The jet black hair set perfectly, cheekbones which stood out as if polished, and a shine in his light blue eyes when he turned the next page of the book- to her, he basically was calling out to people to notice him. Always in a full black suit, he merely sat in a corner of the coffee house, unnoticed by most. But she, she could never take her eyes off him.

Leah had only seen him for the second time, but he seemed to captivate her. Sure, his eyes were painted with dark circles, his cheeks somewhat had a hollow, ghostly tinge, and his eyes, they sometimes seem to shine with menace as he occasionally glanced out of the window to look at the word outside. Busy. Screaming. Chaos unleashed.

But these suited him. She didn’t know how to describe it.

Now sitting right in front of this man who ignored her very existence, she marveled at her own daring. Or in her case, stupidity. He merely turned the next page lazily, as Leah stared at him, almost willing him to make any form of conversation. Her hands clutched her bag tightly, her lips pursed in a thin line, and after twenty minutes of absolute silence, she decided to go for another bout of boldness.

“Hello, I’m Leah Black. The owner’s niece.” The man didn’t even bat an eyelash.

“Can you hear me, sir?” no response.

“EXCUSE ME?”

He looked up at her almost with annoyance, snapping the book shut. Leah regretted it immediately, as a few people sitting nearby turned to look at them. She knew she had forced the man to talk now, and it was not what she was really aiming for. The words tumbled out of her mouth before she could stop it.

“I find your look very aesthetically pleasing so would you mind if I base the character of my book on you please?”

“What?” his eyebrows went up suspiciously.

She repeated what she said in a much slower pace, her voice almost apologetic. She was stuck. Dead end. Writers block. Call it what you would.  And here she seemed to have found the solution to her problems. A man who seemed to be exactly like Leah’s character?! What were the chances? And she wasn’t ready to miss this one.

“Please.” She said, after a few minutes of explanation. He looked at her in mild surprise, as if she was speaking nonsense, which, if Leah thought about it, was quite accurate at his part. “Just let me, you know, speak with you for a while. A few sketches.” She pointed towards her sketchbook. “Please you would really help me out.”

Loki looked at her, wondering if he should just ignore her again. He was merely waiting for Erik Selvig to complete his calculations, after which he could formulate a better plan for the portal. But now this mortal, with weird curly hair and glasses perched over her brown eyes approached him, asking if HE would model for a book?

He had ignored her, and she had nearly blown his cover; not that he cared for it, but Clint seemed to insist it was necessary.

Aesthetically pleasing. An aesthetically pleasing monster.

What stupidity. But maybe he had some time to indulge in some stupidity right now.

Leah was overjoyed when the man agreed. “You are awesome man, thanks!” she cried, as she shook hands with him, though he looked very unwilling. “So, what’s your name?”

“Lo-Luke.”

“Luke?”

He nodded. Her eyes passed over him again. Now that he was closer, she could see the small gold and green embroidery in his suit. Quite extravagant.

And so Leah spent the next hour talking to him. Other than the place where he was from and his family, he answered almost all the questions, the sarcasm and wit growing more and more evident with each passing minute. Leah kept repeating how much she appreciated his helping her, while he just waved her thanks off. But she could see he was only doing it so she would leave him alone.

This thought was solidified when she saw clear disgust on his face when she sat opposite to him the next day. “I’m sorry, but please put up with me.” She asked with a weak smile, and he sighed and nodded. This time around they spoke more about books, and surprisingly, at least in her opinion, Luke was more willing to converse today. He spoke about all the books he had read, some titles which she hadn’t ever heard of, and spoke with quite some passion. “After all, literature seems to be one of the few redeeming traits of humanity.” He finished grandly, and she silently agreed with him.

The next two days she merely sketched him, occasionally talking but mostly drawing. He read his book, the old one replaced with a new title, one of her own, upon his insistence; and once in a while, he looked up to see her deep in her own world.

Loki’s lips went up in a small smirk. This mortal interested him, he had to admit. He looked at her furiously at work, her pencil running over the pages of her battered sketchbook. Then he looked down to read the words she had written. They were well crafted, this woman had potential, but she could improve. She had all the scope. The fact that she wrote murder mystery seemed to please him somehow. He softly hummed the words ‘aesthetically pleasing monster’ under his breath. Words she would never hear.

The next day, Luke had forced Leah to show him her sketchbook. She wasn’t very willing, but so wasn’t he with her ‘little interviews’, so she felt it was the least she could abide by. She watched as her took in her sketches of him- a detailed portrait of him reading while leaning on the window, his face when he looked out of the glass, an occasional devilish smirk. She had also accentuated his hollow cheeks, polished bones, and dark circles under his eyes, and she really thought they made him look much more, um, not human. Almost ethereal in a sense.

She watched as he flipped over the pages with his face on it, turning them to see a cat sprawled on the railing outside, a young man holding the hand of his girlfriend, an old lady outside a flower shop, a mother with her baby held close, and some other faces she had drawn. His eyes lingered for a moment longer on the caricature of Tony Stark, the Iron Man. “You know him of course, he is on the news all the time these days.” Leah didn’t know why she felt like she had to give an explanation.

Luke merely nodded, and turned the page. He wasn’t all that talkative that day.

They spent a few more days talking, and Loki wondered, for how long would his charade go on? Why was he even doing this? He looked at the mortal. She had said her name was Leah. Leah Black. Leah Black who reached out to an aesthetically pleasing character in a coffee shop. An aesthetically pleasing monster. And a woman who could clearly see the anger and hurt he carried inside, but speak not of it in his presence; he could see it in her eyes that she understood somehow, though she could not gauge its depth. She knew her boundaries and respected his, and funnily enough it intrigued him.

Erik Selvig was finished. Tonight was the day they would plan the attack. Clint had specifically mentioned his needs. A target. And an eyeball.

Loki looked at her sitting across him, her attention to the sketchbook again. And he wondered. How long would this charade go on for? Would he miss this? Acting a part to keep up a cover he was once ready to blow to smithereens? He knew it was all a lie. She looked up to meet his eyes, and smiled. She carefully tore a page from the book and hand it to him.

“A ‘thank you’,” She said. “for putting up with me” Loki looked down to see himself, holding a gold rimmed book with an elaborate cover, in his black suit with intricate embroidery. A soft smile on his face and his eyes on the pages. He never would have thought he could smile like that. Maybe this woman had drawn a lie. But despite knowing her for only a week, he could tell, she was incapable of it.

Leah saw Luke look at her and smile for the first time, a smile directed entirely at her. She could feel her heart speed up and blood rush to her face. Looking anywhere except at his striking blue eyes, she beagn gathering her supplies.

“I won’t disturb you anymore. Thanks a lot once again Luke.”

Loki just sat there for a few moments, watching, and thinking. She quickly started to pack up her stuff, muttering about her new book, and how she hoped he would one day read it, and hopefully, give her ‘constructive criticism’. And just as she was about to leave, he did something even he couldn’t comprehend.

“Go away from this city.”

Leah stopped in her tracks, more surprised by the change in his tone than his words. “What?”

“Leave New York. It is not going to be safe here. Run away.”

“Just what sort of nonsense-“

“Just go.”

Leah looking at him, confused. What did he even mean by that?

“Luke? What-“

“It’s not Luke.”

It’s not Luke. He had lied about his name. “I’m sorry but I have to leave now.” Leah whispered, as she slung her bag over her shoulders and quickly walked towards the exit, her eyes on him the entire time.

Loki watched her leave, bewildered at his own words, unconsciously clutching the paper in his hands tighter.

It was only when she watched the news a few days later that Leah understood what he meant.

It was not Luke. It was Loki.

Though she still didn’t understand why the Avengers were standing at her doorstep.

So, I’m wondering if i should write this fanfic?

And im putting a snippet here, so if anyone likes it, wants to be tagged (should i write it), has suggestions or improvements, please let me know. it will be a series, if i ever get off my lazy procrastinating bottom

initially it started out as a loki x oc fic, but at this point im rewriting and second guessing so if anyone has any good ideas PLEASE tell me ill probably be eternally grateful.

TITLE: THE SORCEROR’S APPRENTICE

“Hey there guys, I’m here.” Her voice sounded mechanical even to herself as she whispered through the machine. “FRIDAY could you please unlock the door for me?”

“Sure, miss Leah.” The door opened in a swift motion, closing after her the moment she entered. Tony faced her, looking up from his table where pieces of machinery he was tinkering with lay like broken toys.

“Oh, hello miss apprentice. How many times I have told you that entrance from the back door is not appreciated?” He said with a smile. Leah laughed at she took a chair beside him. “Hey there mr.Stark. my deepest apologies. Besides, I told you, its Leah.”

“Leah. Tony.” He muttered with another smile, as she waved her hand in a quick pattern, opening up a shining portal, from whose depths she pulled out a thick stack of files. Dumping them on the table, she executed a mock salute. “Here you go. I know you don’t like ‘being handed things’, you it quite clear the last time.” She grinned. “Boss wanted you to have the new and updated list as you requested. He also asked me to mention that he won’t be able to make the meeting tomorrow.”

“You still call him ‘Boss’ despite his continuous attempts to convince you otherwise?”

Leah laughed out loud. “Well, fine. The new Sorcerer Supreme has sent me here with the materials you requested, about the greatest threats to the planet.” She even gave a mock bow as Tony laughed as well. Taking the stack of papers, he gestured her to join him for breakfast in the common room, to which she happily agreed, hoping to finally meet the other avengers who had returned to the compound.

Leah Ashtaroth was the apprentice of the current Sorcerer Supreme, the enigmatic and proud Doctor Stephen Strange. Up until recently she had trained with him in Kamar Taj, a new young recruit who found solace in the spiritual place after a severe accident and injury. Now the chief apprentice, she was in charge of what he termed ‘Public Relations’, especially dealing with the Avengers and cooperating with them for ensuring peace. It took them a while to get used to the fact that ‘Wizards’ existed in real life, but she had spent a few months convincing them, and now they had warmed up to you.
