I am forever a fan of mass extinctions as a form of eldritch horror. This asteroid was taller than Mount Everest. It was a mountain falling from the heavens at fifty-eight times the speed of sound. Everything that witnessed the moment it touched the ground would have been obliterated nigh-instantly. And the ones that didn't had no way to understand why winter had come so soon, or why the sun had stopped rising. It was the end of the world. Out of every four species on the planet when it began, only one made it to the other side.

How has this not been used for horror yet?
