"From what I heard, it was your own mouth that ruined it," Lewin laughs. Oh look, he had another cookie in his pocket. And he eats it.

Lewin is generally good at reading between the lines when people are talking to him about investigations. He's also pretty great at understanding when he's being nudged into doing investigations. Like saying 'If the right push comes along' in reference to a shady company and a potential ally, Lightning understands. Find out if the push is needed. "Ah, gotcha."
Dennis is an interesting case for sure and Sir Pheles doesn't seem like he wants to tell if he he had this trade going before or after he brought Dennis to the school. And it isn't super relevant for Lightning at the moment. "So I assume you know what they're after?"
Straight to the point, but then Lewin never was one for mincing words. "Espionage would require deceit. Treachery." Both of which Mephisto came to expect from those he had working multiple angles and he considered them in high regard. "There's not a doubt in my mind he'd be skilled in the trade, but that would require him to forsake his loyalty to Hinobi. At present, I don't believe that's an option but who knows what the future holds for him. If the right push comes along, perhaps."
"Bishop won't have any genuine interest in the well-being of those under him, let alone their families. With everything going to hell- and not just metaphorically- the fight would be coming to that boy in one way or another. Having him here will make him better prepared for what's to come, and I'm sure his uncle can appreciate that. In return, I have eyes on MECH's inner workings. A fair trade overall."

He holds up a small bag of cookies. He's the cookie dealer. "Full price."
"What are you, my conscience? Do you even have one of those?"
"Yes, yes, alright."
Hmm, the Gehenna Gate... A dangerous element for them to play around with especially if they're going against the Order and Illuminati. Then he pauses. "Wait, he's not still trying to do that bomb thing, is he?"
Mephisto lets out a pleased hum. There's something to appreciate in how their minds can run so perfectly parallel to each other at times.
"Their eyes are focused on the Gehenna gate. Quite the bold move to oppose both the Order and the Illuminati. I can only imagine what they have planned if their ideals oppose even Lucifer's at this point."
Lightning barks out a sharp laugh. After all this time that man was still stuck on that? Oh this was too good!
"Too bad he figured it out, I would have loved to see him stuck in a time bubble," Lewin giggles
"I wouldn't be at all surprised if he were. Bishop never was the type to retract his claws from his ambitions."
"How fortunate for us that anything approaching the gate is held in time for now."
Lewin glances at the man. What a weird outfit, he looks like a clown. "Lookin' for something," the kid says, continuing his march. He's not going to tell the man what.

Ahh, there's a familiar face he hasn't seen for some time.
"You certainly look like you're on a mission! Where to, if I may be so bold as to ask?"
Maybe he could be of assistance but that means Lewin has to make a decision about what he's looking for. Mostly what he's looking for is answers about this place. And where Osceola is. "... Food," he says instead.
"That so?" He's not making any attempt to stop Lewin's little adventure, but he's walking the same way, keeping some distance between them. "I happen to know this place like the back of my hand, if not better. Perhaps I could be of assistance."
"Oh?" That got his interest. "Would that be the connection or d'ya have someone else as well?"
"He would never be so careless as to risk himself approaching it. Which is why we wound up with one of his underlings instead."
Lewin blinks, his version of surprise, at the cup of noodles suddenly in his hands. It's warm, which is welcomed, and the kid clutches it a little closer to himself, peering into the cup. It looks edible, smells alright too. That was definitely not normal though.
"Are you a demon?" he asks bluntly, sniffing the food before ignoring the fork and taking a sip of the broth. He almost burns his tongue, but drinks it anyway.
"Ah! If that's all you're looking for then I can help most definitely. Eins! Zwei! Drei!" With his usual theatrical flair, Mephisto summons a personal favourite, though he's made sure this particular kind aren't spicy.
"Something to tide you over until you find what you're really looking for?"
After having gulped down of the now lukewarm broth, Lewin grabs the fork in a fist and is about to dig in when the man talks again. He makes a face, giving the clown a suspicious look.
"He's dead," he bluntly says.
He's patient as always in the thoughtful silence, though he can only imagine what's going through Lewin's busy little head.
"Aren't you clever! Indeed I a- UWAH! Be careful!" A quick adjustment in temperature via some hastily manifested ice cubes.
Smaller in stature but no less of a handful; Osceola really had his work cut out for him back then. "Goodness me. Yes, I'm a demon. And you, my boy, are Lewin Light. I've heard many a story about you from your father."

Oh, he meant Osceola. The suspicion fades and he digs into the food. It taste good but it's a mess to eat. "What hobbies?" he asks because Lewin has been doing a lot of different things with Osceola. He's also more interested in the demon in front of him who can make food out of nothing. "What sorta demon are you?"
"Woops, my bad! Your guardian then. Osceola tells me you've got quite the interesting set of hobbies."
Lewin pouts a little because it hasn't been that bad and Osceola helped him clean up. Sure he still had more ideas to experiment with, but it isn't a horror movie.
The pout disappears pretty quickly when Mephisto reveals his identity. The boy stares with wide eyes. "Samael," he says, "or Sammā'ēl." The food is momentairly forgotten. "You're the King of Time and Space. You know Azazel." The last part is probably what is most interesting for Lewin.
"The kinds that paint the kitchen into a scene from a horror movie. I have to say, I appreciate the creativity but let's not reenact that here, yes?"
"As for myself-" here, Mephisto bowed with a dramatic flourish of his hat- something he would never dare give Lightning the satisfaction of under normal circumstances.
"I hail from Gehenna as the second strongest of the Baal. Most recently, I've taken the name Mephisto Pheles but I wonder...do you know my true name?"
Of course he knows his stuff, the Baal are old beings and one of the foundations of demons. "You have seven siblings. My Sylphs," as if on cue, one of the Sylphs decides to circle around him, "are Azazel's elementals." He pauses. "Does Time have elementals? My books didn't say." Time, Light, and Insects all fall outside the demonic elements and especially Time and Light are less studied.
An amused grin spreads across Mephisto's face as he rights himself. "Correct!" the word is given an enthusiastic roll of the 'r's
"You know your stuff! Yes, I'm quite familiar with Azazel. I suppose the easiest way to explain is he's my younger brother."
He understand that reference, it was one of his books from back then. "Huh." That's curious. "I would have thought Death was your most common kin," he says simply. "Because the passing of time brings death to everything. But then shadows are very common... but only if there's light. Can you share kin with Lucifer? Or are they considered the opposite of Lucifer?" He has many curious questions for an actual Baal.
There's no denying the boy's skill, and Mephisto is well aware that even at this young age, Lewin was-and-is capable of so much more than one solitary demon. His eyes lazily follow the Sylph through part of its arc before his attention shifts back to Lewin.
"As a higher level demon my kin are few and far between, but they do exist. The most common among them are those who possess shadows, or shades as some take to calling them. I wouldn't be surprised if they inspired the bit in Peter Pan where he loses his shadow- they do so like to wander, especially once the sun starts rising."
Borrowing kin? That sounds powerful. "Why?" Lewin asks once again. "Are you fighting with him?" Would the Baal fight? Aren't they all more or less considered under the same Gehenna influence?
"You'd be surprised. Ah, yes, any of the Baal can borrow the kin of another. However, to do so one must obtain that King's permission first. The chances of my older brother sharing with me is...let's call it unlikely."
"Our kin are separate though."
Lewin watches Samael silently for a moment. War is a big concept even for him, especially when he doesn't feel worried about it. He's not sure how to feel about it. He wonders how he's supposed to feel about it. "Why has he declared war?"
"I am. Because he and I have conflicting views on Assiah and the humans who inhabit this part of it, Lucifer has declared war against the Order. Worry not! You'll be perfectly safe while you're here."
"Another one I should investigate oooor..?"
"Who's the little fella with the tail?"
