ive just spent the last 6hrs goin thru every piece of media from 'the phantom of the opera' and all i can say is

WHY IS IT LIKE THATTT

why's the ending like that??? be it the one from broadway theatre dated back in 1988, or the musical in 1986, the movie from 2004, even in the original novel by Leroux himself, none of them ends with a closure of the phantom's acceptance..

i hvnt watch the 1925 silent film version tho; but so far i think i like the og novel version best

personally i spite the 2004 version so much as in tht one, christine clearly stated tht she's afraid of the phantom (as uttered in the song 'Twisted Every Way') while it's never been told that way in the novel/broadway/other versions

on the og novel tho, despite christine still married raoul in the end, he still returned to bury the phantom during his passing, the last thing phantom had asked before they parted. she fulfilled her promise, and put the ring(?) he gave her to be buried w/ him.. truly the best ending of all version me thinks

overall i loved the parallels of night & daylight imagery. of heaven & hell, beast & beauty. also the part where she said 'he sings inside my mind'? imo it can be interpreted in many ways

i love it when characters are codependent. i love it when losing someone feels like losing a limb. i love it when two people "complete" each other so wholly and terribly that one can barely function without the other. i love it when the fear of losing the only person who understands them is so all-consuming they'll destroy anything to stay together, including themselves.

this tweet gave me sick thoughts about immortal x mortal malleyuu trope where Malleus visiting Yuu even as they grow old and their memories diminishes because of aging,,, 😭😭

Like I'm imagining old Yuu will say things like "I remember having this friend that I promised I would always invite him, but I can't remember his voice nor face or most of the things I used to know about him, still, i hope i can make that promise lasts for much longer, i would've loved to write another invitation for him again, but it seems that even his name i have forgotten..."

and and Malleus will just have to listen to this old person's ramblings, knowing he's not recognized anymore, knowing that the time he spent with Yuu is only remembered only by him, realizing he's in this situation again where time relentlessly will wither everyone he cares about as he lives on-- "I'm sure he would've loved that..."

Maybe he could tell the memories he still remembers, but he knows it'll quickly be forgotten as they spent their twilight days sitting still and pondering about death- still, if they can remember a measly promise like for a simple invitations, then he can surely commit to this "I promise to remember you, Yuu."

I love the contradiction of Overblot Malleus's beliefs. He believes that we need to be surrounded by "happiness" so that we could enjoy our life and not be sad. He accomplishes this by crafting a world where our struggles is non existent and we're able to get what we want (dreams) easily. What he does feels like he's pampering us. But at the same time, "being pampered" is also the thing that Malleus finds icky.

Having the chores be completed after him, everything cleaned up and provided before him, without Malleus trying any of those chores (even though he's capable of doing so and is eager to learn) which is why he finds it "annoying" when others complete it just because they want to treat him like a royal prince.

The act of cleaning after him feels similar to what Overblot Malleus' is doing, he's providing us a cleaned up world (a world without pain/struggle) so we don't have to do any chores (like experiencing sadness), just because Malleus considers us the people that he needs to protect and provide to.

Maybe(?) Overblot Malleus does this "blessing", because he believes "the people are weak so they deserve an easier life".

Its like... this "pampering" that Malleus dislikes and his vision of "what life should be", is a contradiction.

Both Malleus and the people, in these situations, are capable of overcoming struggles or learning curves in a difficult task, so there is "no need for an easier route/seamless happy life" because struggles and having autonomy are important.

I guess this is also a nice trait that Malleus really reflects upon his upbringing?? XD

So, essentially, Normal Malleus hates being pampered with, just because he's a royalty (even though he's capable of being independent and can learn through the struggle). This thing that Normal Malleus hates, is also the behavior that Overblot Malleus is promoting.

So it's like Overblot Malleus doesn't see that he would also Dislike it if someone where to trap him in a "room"(dreamworld) where everything is just done for him, just because they have this predetermined assumption that Malleus shouldn't struggle because he's a prince. lol

STYX should just contact us Diasomnia stans if they want to treat the option of “just talking it out with overblot Malleus” more seriously, we'll refute that fae's every hypothesis TRUSTTTT while this organization was busy analysing his magic we were busy analyzing his psyche XD 🤣
