i wish that etymology and extracts were put in the whale fact a thon rather than breaking up Ishmael’s narration
esp for readings where the structure of the book is reflective of his trauma
the land section is like the happiest he’s gonna get
it’s not a section where he’d need to distance himself
unless he’s distancing himself from the suicidal ideation or the time right before he reaches New Bedford
idk

Idk how much you all are familiar with a certain style of book (I'm thinking Borges or Eco) but a lot of Moby Dick Whale Facts™ are randomly collected from sources of various credibility/possibly made up wholesale (so I've heard) so don't be surprised if you see something wrong. It's sort of...part of the charme? The whale facts aren't supposed to be things you committ to memory, they're supposed to be like. I don't know how to explain. They're there to put you in a whal-ish state of mind? One of the main themes of the book is obsession.
Do point it out tho it's very fun.
