Innate/Unconscious magic

As promised on the previous post, where I was asked to give some headcanons for my Koopalings, here is some more! This time it's just focussed on one singular thing for each of them, instead of random things for random Koopalings.

(Innate magic is a type of magic that you are born with.)

None of these things are stuff that they had to (consciously) learn. They don't use this on purpose, it just… happens. Nor are any of these abilities really strongly noticeable. It only becomes noticeable once you really look for it. (Ludwig and Iggy, with a side help from Kamek, eventually try to investigate this, but it took them years to even get some vague suspicion of any of them even having something like this).

Ludwig can learn stuff way faster than anyone should be able to. This is mainly with music related stuff. He learns songs faster, and is able to play an instrument correctly a bit faster than others. (He still needs to put time into learning it, as it isn’t a “He tries once and immediately excels at it”).

Iggy can make (small) wounds heal faster, and bruises disappear faster. This happens when he bandages the wound, or puts a healing salve (made by himself, but he unconsciously put some of this healing magic in it), on a bruise. Much like with Ludwig, this isn’t a “snip of the finger and it’s healed”. It’s just that where a bruise should stay for 2ish weeks, when tended to by Iggy, it is almost completely gone after 1 week.

Lemmy’s talent for circus type tricks and his flexibility, don’t come from just his naturally flexible body. His innate magic helps here, too. For instance, when he jumps, he seems to be floating/stay in the air a bit longer than he should. (Even for someone his size and weight, it’s a bit longer than he’s supposed to). His balance also seems to be much better than that of anyone else. (Especially Larry’s, as he gets dizzy faster than the others. This has sparked the joke that Lemmy took extra balance, leaving none for Larry in the end).

Roy is able to spot weak spots in his opponent during fights, almost like it’s a sixth sense. There are a good couple of weak spots with every fighting style, but he’s able to spot them within seconds. Especially with those that know about the typical weak spots in their fighting style, and protect those spots. Roy can spot the ‘new’ weak spot, and is able to relativity quickly hit there.

Wendy is amazing with fashion, and especially making fitting clothes for people. They seem to always fit exactly the way they’re supposed to, and use the exact right colour for its wearer. Of course, if given blue fabric, she can’t turn it pink or so. But when given dark blue fabric, and the commission to make a suit for Ludwig, it will have the perfect dark blue to compliment her oldest brother, and seems to be a perfect fit for him.

Morton has become a god at cooking. It took some time, as everyone has to practice to become good at stuff, but he is way too good. Everything he makes always seems to have the exact amount of correct spices, and even seems to cater a bit to everyone’s favourite taste of the dish. (For instance, with regular soup, Iggy will taste the carrots more, while Roy tastes the meatballs the most).

Larry has a goddamn high animal handling. He can get along with animals pretty much within 5 minutes (if the animal isn’t actually out for blood or such, of course. But it doesn’t matter all that much between a kind animal, or a shy one with Larry.) Ludwig and Iggy haven’t been able to prove yet that Larry can actually talk to animals or not, but Larry has promised that if he somehow can, that he himself doesn’t even know it.

(Junior is a fully draconic Koopa, and doesn't really have much magic abilities. Or at least definitly not to the extend that any of his siblings have, and therefor doesn't have any innate magic).

I used to have a simple, straight to the point answer for this one, but then they started to develop more... (If you get what I mean).

Short answer, the most common/ best-known combo's, are Ludwig and Larry, Iggy and Lemmy, Roy and Wendy, and Morton and Junior.

As for the longer, more complex answers,

I'm gonna respond to this one as if the answer comes from the Koopa themselves. (Much more fun that way).

Every time you see "Ian", that's me. (I needed another person to kind of interview them, and since this is my AU, we're using my main OC).

But, as to not make this an unskippable ad, I put a "Keep reading in here". So, for the long answers, go down below.

Some of their answers are longer, and others are pretty straight foreward.

(Also, I colourcode everyone in what they do and say. There are a few letters which are somhow not coloured, but I swear, I edited this like, 4 times already, but they keep showing up. So, please forgive me for that, as that is truly Tumblrs fault).

First up, Ludwig and Iggy.

I think Ludwig and I are the most biased with this question...

My favourite is Lemmy. I mean, he's my twin brother. How can I not?!

And mine is Larry. During our time out on the streets, (time between losing bio parents and found by Bowser), Larry was really, really young... He started seeing me as his parent, and, well... While he definitely also is my little brother, he also feels like my son sometimes... How weird that may sound...

So, yeah... Of course, my favourite is my twin, and Ludwig's is his "son"...

Ludwig leaves to go back to what he was doing before answering this question.

But, honestly? Ludwig is a very, very close second...

He's always been there for me when I was feeling (more physically) down... And, well, he's my favourite science buddy!

The camera switches over to Ludwig, who's walking through the halls back to his room.

To be completely honest, while Larry is probably my number one, I can't deny that Iggy had that spot before that/before our lives completely flipped...

He truly cares about everyone's well-being. After all, he has healed my fingers a lot of times, whenever the piano fallboard fell onto my fingers...

Plus, while I am not going to admit this to his face, his hugs are actually pretty calming. Somehow...

Lemmy

Iggy. I mean, of course I dearly love all of my siblings, but, well...

Iggy's my twin... It's really, really hard to beat that.

Roy

Roy flicks his eyes back and forth and sweats a bit at first at hearing the question.

He then folds his arms over his chest and turns his head away.

Pff. Like I have a favourite.

Ian: O, really? Then why do you seem to enjoy their presence so much?

What about the Just Dance battles against Ludwig? Or the study sessions with Iggy? Being Lemmy's spotter during new acrobatic stunts? Being the one to help Wendy when she has a new idea for clothes... Or sparring against Morton... Playing sports against Larry... Or, and don't try to deny this, having those fire breathing contests against Junior?~

Roy sighs as his shoulders sag a bit. He grumbles before he answers.

If you must know... That's exactly why I don't have a favourite.

Roy blushes a bit as he looks away again.

I can't choose...

Wendy

Well, I’m not sure… Roy is probably my favourite, but he is also very much a menace for me.

A few seconds pass.

Actually, so is Junior...

How about this, as they are both as well at the top as at the bottom of my list, they both 50/50, and therefor count as one.

Ian: Yeah, okay, I can work with that... But, give me the explanation in return.

Deep sigh.

Roy has pretty much always been my older brother, you know? While the other three also always have been there for me, Roy was there for me on a different level. But, we also fight quite a bit...

As for Junior. While he's a spoiled little brat, he does, admittedly, have artistic talent. It's often that I explain a design I have in my head, and Junior is able to draw it pretty correctly.

Morton and Larry

Hmm... Can I really only choose one?

Ian, off camera, "Kinda, yeah."

I suppose...

Morton suddenly perks up and smiles.

My favourite younger sibling is Junior, my favourite big bro is Roy, and my favourite older bro is Iggy! There! Just one!

You can't be mad, he did give just one... Just one for different categories...

As for mine, Ludwig.

Larry chuckles and rubs the back of his neck.

It's actually been that way since hatching...

Mom and dad had told us the story of the day I had hatched...

Apparently, I had been crying pretty much since I got out of my egg. Iggy and Lemmy were already home at that point, and the rest weren't trusted enough by mom and dad to safely hold me...

But, no matter who held me, I just wouldn't stop crying...

But then, Ludwig came home. He had been doing some after school stuff, which is why he was late. Mom had pushed me into his arms, becoming frantic about my crying, and trying whatever she could. But the moment I was in Ludwig’s arms, I apparently immediately stopped crying.

So, yeah... Ludwig's my favourite... and he has been that since my birth...

Lastly, Junior

Morton! He's always there when I need him. He's always willing to make me food or carry me around on his shoulders.

Small bonus bit, just cause I can-

Roy: Wait! How do you know about the Just Dance battles and the study sessions? Those are secrets between them and me!

Ian: I have my ways~

Roy: Growl. Just... Don't tell anyone about that, capiche? No one is supposed to know that Luds and I play Just Dance, nor is anyone supposed to know that I like biology...

What do the koopalings think of the Mario bros?

It kinda depends on the timing, as I also eventually put Bowuigi into my AU, (so they all eventually take a liking to Luigi), but there is one massive thing that happens a bit before the two get together, so the Koopalings of the time in between those two things will answer this. (This thing is known by Iggy and Luigi, while the rest knows nothing.)

Ludwig is fairly “neutral hating” both of them. He doesn’t hate hate them, but since they bested him so many times, he… doesn’t really like either of them all that much…

Iggy’s opinion on the two is vastly different for one compared to the other. He is fairly neutral, to even somewhat liking to Luigi (they’ve become on an at least neutral ground between them two). But hates Mario. (Once Bowuigi is in effect, this will lessen, but Iggy will never get all that close to Mario).

Lemmy… Doesn’t necessarily hate Mario as much as his twin does. He understands that something has happened between Iggy and the plumber brothers, but Iggy refuses to explain what this was exactly. His hate for Mario is about as heavily as the rest of the family, but he’s warming up on Luigi, as his demeanour has… changed, when fighting the physically smallest Koopaling…

Roy hates both of them. Has since he knows them, and it hasn’t changed throughout time.

Wendy is similar to her youngest older brother. There’s not all that much difference between their hate for Mario and hate for Luigi.

Morton… Isn’t all that “capable” of hating people… (I can’t really explain it better…) But he does know that he absolutely does not like them.

Larry is not all that fond on Mario, as he always immediately gives his all in their fight. (Inspired by that Larry is pretty much always the first to encounter, and seems overall the weakest fighter.) But… Luigi seems to try and make it a fair fight. Where Mario comes barging in with the heaviest/strongest powerup he was able to find, Luigi usually only has a mushroom (the red ones.)

Junior follows his dad. Hates both of them, but especially Mario. He takes away his mama! (Yes, I’m gonna go that route).

Ludwig, Iggy, Lemmy, and Larry are on vacation!

They joined me on a cruise, to Iceland and Ireland.

Iggy joined on the trip through Akureyri.

A "selfie" with him and the ship, and him and the Goðafoss waterfall.

(And here are clear pictures of the ship and the waterfall, as the above pictures have Iggy in focus).

Lemmy was the lucky Koopaling to join the trip into Ísafjörður.

He joined to see the "floating pedestrian crossing". But we coincidentally found a rainbow path, which I find a good fit for Lemmy (being all those bright colours himself).

(And the things but without Lemmy, so that they're in focus).

Ludwig and Larry were the lucky ones to join the trip into Reykajavík.

It's the last day in Iceland, so they got to get off of the ship together, so all four of them got off and into Iceland once.

They joined the trip to a museum about the northern lights.

(My Ludwig loves the sky and the stuff that belongs with it, so it was a perfect fit).

Ludwig and Iggy were the ones to join the (small) trip into Cobh, Ireland. We went to the heritage museum.

It was the main point for a lot of ships to travel from, (Including the Titanic), so that was what the museum was mostly about.

Ludwig really wanted to join for the history lesson, and Iggy just tagged along because the other two didn't want to.

(This cruise only goes to 2 places in Ireland, so they get to go off of the ship in duos, so that they all have been in Ireland once.)

For the last (port) day of this cruise, Lemmy and Larry joined the trip off of the ship, and into Waterford.

Today, we had to tender to get to the shore, so I suppose Lemmy and Larry went on two trips on a ship...

We went into the crystal museum, and found a couple of nice works, including a helmet for Roy and Larry ;) (Please don't boys... That thing will shatter very quickly and hurt you badly...)

And furthermore, we kinda strolled through the town. And eventually stumbled upon a viking ship.

The last sunset...

For the last sea day, and full day overall, Ludwig, Iggy, Lemmy, and Larry went to see the last sunset we'll get from this cruise.

(And played a bit with with it in photos 2, 3, and 4)

For each day of the koopa week you could do a story that centers that specific character!

And that's what I'm gonna do!

(Or at least try to-, in connection with how much time I have...)

The first day of Koopa week 2024...

A friend of mine on here ( @milk-powrit ) requested I make a one-shot starring/centred around the Koopa of that day, and Bowser is the first!

This is honestly just Bowser getting to talk about his kids, and how he loves them, and what they do.

Koopa week 2024, day 2! Larry's day!

(My) Larry is often accociated with games and sports, so I decided to sort of combine this, into a physical game. Hide and seek, combined with tag! You have to hide, but when you get found, the finder/tagger has to tag you first. Which means that you can hide, like, 3 times, and still be a hider afterwards.

Koopa week 2024, day 3, Morton!

Morton is a big sweetheart (at least in my AU('s)) So, he deserves to show that he is, to pretty much any creature!

(Btw, little different from my other stories of these guys, but not really jarring, this one is placed in a Human AU).

Koopa week 2024, Day 4, Wendy

Unfortunately, I have not been able to come up with (and therefor make) a one-shot for her...

I tried to find ideas, but I came to the conclusion that I simply have not developed her in my AU('s) enough...

So, to try and help this, I'm just gonna post some ideas that I do have for her.

(Warning, these are random as hell-, and some might have been in other posts or stories).

She's a back sleeper, and wears a sleeping mask.

She's naturally right-handed, but due to her developing sowing skills, she's getting closer to becoming ambidextrous.

She loves to swim, and likes to have swimming competitions against Larry.

Wendy knows a lot of different dances, of which especially ballroom type ones (she took classes of these with Ludwig).

Her bracelets are actually those of her (bio) mom.

She has been wearing/playing in heels since she was pretty young. She always had to keep up with her brothers, and due to this combo of things, she can sprint in heels.

She also likes to do parkour. (Even if that's more of a secret.) But due to having done this one on heels since she was young, too... She's just pretty much unstoppable on heels.

Her bracelet "magic trick" is actually a spell that Ludwig and Iggy made for her for them.

She's actually the one who came up with (the base idea for) Iggy's hair style and Lemmy's hair colours.

Her human counterpart has a pet bunny. A white bunny named Cinnabun.

(Btw, if you have any questions about her (or any of the others), feel free to ask! Even if it's a miniscule or random thing, don't be afraid. Even the tiniest detail can help shape a character).

Day 5 of Koopa week, which mean it's Iggy's time for the spotlight!

As my Iggy is more of the healer, I made a lot of little one-shots (for a far as "little" is with mine...). With each part focussing on Iggy helping/healing them. I will warn, some are worse than others, but I will try my best to let you know what the injury sustained is at the beginning notes of each new story. (If I didn't give a proper warning, please kindly let me know, so I can fix the warning for it).

It will also be mentioned when it takes place, and in what AU (Koopa or human)

Koopa week 2024, day 6, Roy!

Roy is know as the fighter of the family, so what's more fitting than him showing off some skills while sparring with his family?

Koopa week 2024, day 7, our favourite small goofball, Lemmy!

I got the prompt "For Lemmy you could have him feeling sad because he’s not big as his siblings" from a friend over on tumblr (@milk-powrit) So, that's what y'all are gonna get for today!

(But, if you know my works, you know it'll have a happy ending).

Second to last day of Koopa week 2024... Ludwig!

The oldest of the Koopalings... The first to become an adult... So, he deserves some more childish fun before he becomes one, right? Well, his siblings certsinly thought so, too!

So, they set up an old fashioned food fight for the family.

Last day of Koopa week, Junior! Finally a one-shot that I didn't have to speedrun to get out in time-...

But, last day of Koopa week, it would be a nice one to have a one-shot set into the future, right? So, that's what's gonna happen here. A piece of story that's set into the future.

Bowser has retired (not dead) and given the crown to Junior. But, now that he's king, that means everyone is an adult. That must mean they wanna leave and go live on their own, right?... And it'll leave Junior all alone...
