You & Bokuto were high school & college sweethearts. You've always thought that the two of you were going to the the couple that stayed together forever. The two of you had plans of getting married, having a family. He was the one! Until he wasn't, or so you thought at least :(
The two of you got engaged when he was at the peak of his career being a pro volleyball player. Bokuto was always busy with practices & traveled a lot for games, training & all that pro athlete stuff. You knew this was what you signed up for, but sometimes you couldn't help but feel a little neglected. Even though Bokuto always made sure to call & facetime you as much as possible whenever he was away, but it just wasn't the same. You saw your friends who were in relationships, & other people around you who were in relationships, & got to do fun things with their s/o. You envied that. You just wanted Bokuto by your side. & it wasn't like you could pick up & leave with him whenever he went out of town or something because you had to work. So when Bokuto brought up wanting to take you with him for an overseas game, you flipped. You were angry because he knew you didn't have the privilege to just take off work just to tag along with him. You asked him how long he'd be going for & when he told you he'd be gone for a few months all you could do was shake your head. You were going to be left alone again. You let your frustration speak for you when you told him you couldn't do this anymore. Bokuto was confused at first by what you meant, but when you took off your engagement ring & placed it on the coffee table in front of him he understood.
A year after ending the engagement, Bokuto is now dating someone else. You heard about it on the sports entertainment new outlets & weren't too bothered by it at first, until you saw him for the first time since you broke things off with him. You met him in the snack aisle of the grocery store. You were reaching for something at the top rack when someone grabbed it & handed it you. A mixture of feelings rushing through your body when you saw him. The two of you exchanged hellos & how are yous when the person he was now dating popped up next to him locking their arm around his muscular one. He introduced them to you, & you felt your heart break into a million pieces. The way he smiled at them, just like the way he used to smile at you. You cried in the car on the way back to your place. You didn't realize how much you had missed him being in your life until then. You didn't realize how dumb you were for letting him go. How selfish you were for letting distance separate you from your true love.
From then on, whenever you saw news about them on the internet or tv you couldn't stand it. You wanted him back into your life, but did he even want you back? Did he still love you because you still loved him.
