Imagine Neil and Aaron’s schedules lining up and they end up having to take a math course together. It’s a required class for both of their degrees so there’s no getting out of it.
Neil running late to the first day of class and when he walks in the ONLY open seats are the ones on either side of Aaron (trust the PSU students to go nowhere near a Fox). And Neil’s like ‘you’ve got to be kidding me’ but he has no choice so he throws himself down in the seat next to Aaron.
And Aaron just audibly says “Oh what the fuck”. He was actually kind of excited for this class but now that fuck face over here has shown up he debates switching degrees to whatever gets him as far from Neil as possible. But they both suffer through the first class and don’t say a word to each other.
The semester continues on and they continue to have to sit next to each other. Unassigned assigned seats have been set in place, they’re stuck next to each other and they both hate it.
Aarons pissed because why Neil is good at math like better than anyone he’s ever met and it kinda destroys part of this image Aaron’s constructed in his head to justify hating Neil. But Aaron’s a nerd, he can’t help but be slightly impressed by someone’s intelligence.
Neil’s image of Aaron also starts to crumble. He’s never seen or been around Aaron outside of the court or being around the foxes. He’s seeing Aaron in his element, the reason he’s at college. And Aaron’s also good at math which is a shock for Neil.
They, unconsciously, turn it into a competition (because of course they do they’re both competitive as hell). The prof tells them to solve an equation and they’re like racing to see who gets it done first. Homework gets assigned and they rush to do it, whoever gets it done first purposely goes to the others room just to slam it onto the others desk all smug.
The image they have of the other starts to shift. They’re seeing each other for the first time outside of Neil’s obsession and the thing Aaron puts up with to get himself through school debt free. They’re seeing each other away from Andrew and the rest of the Foxes. And they form this weird kind of academic rivals friendship that neither of them address but are both okay with.
They even start to talk in a civil way outside of class, albeit it’s only ever about class. It’s probably a shock to the other Foxes because what do you mean these two are willingly interacting with each other in a semi non-hostile way (they’re still arguing but it’s not vicious and it’s more of just them trying to one up each other) ((and gossiping about the prof and other students bc they’re also judgmental as hell))
Idk just them seeing each other in a whole new light and unconsciously connecting in the ways they’re similar (gossip, competition and math). They’re far from what you could call friends but it’s a vast improvement from blindly hating each other.
fuck it im gonna post my random our life headcanons. i love this game too much
