I can think of a lot of YA books that would be much more engaging to read if the straight white male protagonist was in a gay enemies/rivals to lovers relationship with the straight white male supporting character/best friend

Just putting it out there...

And it works the other way too, for books with female main characters. It would just be so much more interesting as a character dynamic!!

Or even take it one step further, if the main character or best friend was intersex, trans, bi, non-binary, agender, genderfluid/genderqueer/genderflux or a demigirl/demiboy, or ace, aro, or aroace. Even more that I can't remember too.

And imagine if it was just normal- not made a big deal out of or marketed as "queer", just a book.

Fanfiction has ruined my once realistic lgbtq+ representation expectations for all not specifically queer books I read.

WE NEED MORE NORMALISED QUEER CHARACTERS!!!!

Doesn't have to be romantic, in fact a lot of the time it would be way better as platonic! Just gimme more gays!!

Plus idk if it's just me but the best ships/character dynamics I read are almost* always queer. We are just built different.

Not saying straight ships are bad or anything, heck they are great! Everyone deserves representation! They are just really overused. But we already know that. I'm just stating the obvious
