Ed (indignant): Lead with that next time! It's not my fault you left out important details. Besides, look how happy it makes them.

*cut to the youngest girl stabbing a man in the leg while the older one steals his money*

Stede: šŸ‘šŸ‘„šŸ‘

Ed (smiling proudly): Little scamps.

Ed (defensively): Well You Said That You Used To Sword Fight With Alma!

Stede (exasperated): With wooden swords, Ed.

I Know It's Not Going That Direction And We Don't Know Who This Character Is Yet Or What Their Deal Is

I know it's not going that direction and we don't know who this character is yet or what their deal is yet but there's a throuple vibe going on in this gif specifically.

Izzy trying to push half of the responsibility for Ed's Kraken heel turn onto Stede is honestly so annoying. He was healing just fine before you, his friend and righthand man, told him he'd be better off dead than being himself. Fuck outta here with that crap.

I really hope this is acknowledged one way or the other this season. I hope Ed tells Stede about that conversation and he knows that, while he did hurt Ed badly, Izzy's words are what pushed him over the edge. I'm all for Izzy redeeming himself, but not to Stede's detriment. If Izzy truly wants redemption, he needs to be honest with himself about his role in all this.

Everyone reblogging this defending Izzy can stop. You're wrong. Sorry the actual character isn't the imaginary version you made up in your head. This isn't even an anti post. I like what they're doing with Izzy, but he needs to realize he is way more at fault than he wants to admit. Stop acting like any criticism of a literal antagonist is some sort of attack. It's just sad at this point.

so in s2e3 izzy goes to pick a fight with stede in the captain's cabin, says something about how stede doesn't really know ed, and stede responds with "he was either going to burn the world or die trying, so which was it?" to prove that he does know stede.

I mean, it's obvious from the state of the ship that's what happened. but the thing is... stede leaving didn't cause ed to try to burn the world or die. stede did make ed depressed, maybe even passively suicidal, but izzy caused that flip to switch.

someone needs to tell stede that. I don't fucking care if it's ed or izzy. stede just needs to know about that missing step. please for the love of God

i think we're not going to get Ed angry with Stede and him avoiding/running away from him

we already have confirmation that the teaser/trailer edited Ed's "no more izzy" into "no more Stede", and we all could tell the barrel smashing scene with Stede on the floor screaming are two different scenes (of which the barrel scene is revealed to be from 2x03)

it was a fairly popular reading in post-s1 fic/meta that Stede would be upset at Ed for marooning the crew and throwing Lucius overboard. but we've been proven wrong already. not only is Stede not angry at Ed, he understood very clearly why Ed would act the way he did. and i think that goes both ways for the two of them

it wouldn't be all that interesting imo for the show to entertain the low hanging angst fruit of "Stede has to prove himself worthy of Ed by making it up to him while Ed is angry and avoiding him". with what we've been given in the first three eps centering around Ed's struggle with self worth and believing he's unlovable, i don't think he'd waste energy being angry at Stede. plus we've seen that anger isn't an emotion that Ed associates with Stede, even when he was going through the worst parts of his heartbreak

i think the "shipmates!" "former šŸ˜¬" isn't actually framed as the 'oh he's my ex..." tone that the trailer makes it out to be but rather what it literally says on the tin: former shipmates. Ed's going to wake up and headbutt Stede and perhaps they'll have a moment where Stede spills everything to Ed in a rush of apology bc he knows he owes Ed that much and Ed deserves to know what happened, and Ed's going to be like "okay. thanks for telling me i get it"

but then he's going to leave the revenge because he feels guilty about the trauma he put them through and that he no longer deserves to be part of the crew. the reason he seemed annoyed at Stede finding him at Anne and Mary's is probably because he told everyone to not come after him and of course, Stede does

i believe next week's episodes aren't going to focus on how angry Ed is at Stede but rather him believing that he's not deserving of the love that Stede is openly giving him, and Stede being undeterred in showing him how much he's loved in spite of everything. it's not about Stede painstakingly trying to prove he's worthy of Ed, to Ed he's already everything he ever wanted, flaws and all. it's about Ed accepting that he's worthy of Stede's love, of the crews love, of forgiveness and warmth in general

Listen, I'm hyperventilating about that last scene in episode 5, but I can't help but linger on the fact that Stede left out a huge chunk of the story about why he left Ed waiting on the dock. I really hope that gets addressed because it's so important. Our boys still have so much talking to do.

I hope not! I hope they agree to do both together. They spend half their time on land and half at sea, but as a unit. I just don't think separating after everything they went through makes sense for their characters, and honestly it would be kind of upsetting.

Our Flag Means Death Finale theory below

I have some thoughts on the title of the season finale being called ā€œMermenā€.

Mermaids/mermen allude to being half on land and half in the sea, so (I hope Iā€™m wrong about this) but I think we might be in for a ā€œyou stay on land, and I go off to seaā€ situation happening.

Not that I think Ed and Stede will make that a breakup, but I think itā€™ll be more of a ā€œyou stay here, and Iā€™ll come back for youā€ type thing on Stedeā€™s part.

Weā€™ve established that they want different things out of life: Ed wants to retire, Stede wants to live out his pirate fantasy. It would make sense for Ed to stay on land (maybe get them a little cottage by the sea) and Stede to go off galavanting for a while until they figure out how to compromise.

David said something along the lines of ā€œfinding a resolutionā€ for this season that can be seen as a happy ending in case we donā€™t get a season 3, so that would be a middle ground ending.

In season 3 weā€™ll probably pick up on them figuring out how to be together in a more permanent way, and navigate an adult relationship where they both get what they want, but I think weā€™re in for a long distance situation until then.

(Also theyā€™ll need a place to have their cute little seaside cottage for the crew to visit and Buttons to bring all his seagulls friends to)

I really hope Lucius walks in on Ed and Stede cuddling a la Jim and Oluwande. I need that callback! I even wrote it into a fic I never published. It would be so goddamn funny!

Oh, no. Oh, shit. Episode 7 gave me the same pain in my chest Good Omens episode 6 did. I'm freaking out. I swear if they reunite in the next episode only to part ways mutually, I won't survive it. Why can't gay people just be happy? Just let them be happy! We'll still go insane for a renewal, I promise! I can't handle another bittersweet ending. My mental health is hanging on by a thread!
