Love has always felt A little bit like A poison to me But maybe the Better metaphor now Is love is simply A harmless substance To which my body has -- For unknown reasons -- Decided I have an allergy to And I wanted to Know what it tasted like So I thought a little Mithridatism couldn't hurt At least not worse Than the whole world Screaming "LOVE LOVE LOVE" And at first I thought they were right Because just like French fries Fried in peanut oil A little taste Was almost sweet But I should've known From my brother That the hives Aren't worth Anything more Than that
