grumbling about deltarune fancomic paper trail
like... i can understand if people find the cliffhanger ending unsatisfying. that’s fine, really.
but i think what really frustrates me is seeing people act like that’s an accident or a mistake instead of The Literal Point. messages to the author that imply the cliffhanger ending was a sudden decision or an oversight.
like the ending hinges on the idea that the player cares more about the characters as actual people than gaster thought they would. it’s like the opposite of sans in ut saying “because you ‘can,’ you ‘have to.’” and like, however you feel about that as a message, to overlook it completely... it’s frustrating!
and HONESTLY when it comes to the idea of fans coming up with alternate endings, while people can write whatever they want, the whole idea kinda... misses the mark for me. like it’s one thing to try and come up with how the remaining characters turn things around after the player leaves, but if you’re coming up with ways for the player to stick around... it’s like you’re saying the story would have been better if the villain was right to expect the player to act selfishly, and i don’t like that.
