The Ick

Summary: You’re not picky you just have standards. Ok, maybe they’re very high standards, but why shouldn’t they be? You’ve not about to settle for anyone. You’re not about to spend the rest of your life with someone who changes the channel half-way through a show you’re watching or who wears sock with sandals or loose boxer shorts. No. Because all of things bring on that terrible feeling, the cool dread that creates unattraction. You’ve caught the ick from every guy you’ve dated, but all it takes is one comment to make you realise that there’s one man in your life who has never made you feel it. And while that should be exciting, the fact he’s your best friend makes things a little complicated.
Pairing: Hoseok x reader
Genre: Friends to lovers; angst; fluff.
Word count: 6k
Warnings: Swearing, apologies if you do any of the things that reader hates, kissing? Mentions of sex though no descriptions, drinking alcohol, idk not too much.
Authors Note: Inspired by the song The Ick by Panic Shack which I am currently obsessed with. I hope you enjoy :)

You’ve been hanging out for a while. It’s been nice, chilled. He’s into space. Like, really into space. Planets and black holes and stars and shit. He has this massive telescope where he looks at the night sky. One of your firsts dates was star-gazing, picnic blanket and him point out the different constellations and all. He’s passionate and it’s cool.
He’s opened up about different things in his life he finds tough and has listened when you’ve done the same. It’s nice, to have someone you’re so close with who listens. There was a time when a guy got too close to you at the pub and he’s stood up for you. He’s sensitive but tough, the perfect ratio.
The sex is good too, which isn’t everything in a relationship, but is also pretty crucial.
You thought things were going well. As well as things can be going after only a couple of weeks of knowing each other. Which is longer than a lot of your relationships. There wasn’t any red flags or things that put you off. You thought maybe this could be it. Maybe Dan is the one.
But then one morning you saw it.
You’d stayed at his and when you went into the kitchen after just waking up, he was already boiling the kettle. You kissed his cheek as you watched him make you a cuppa.

“I’m sorry, what are you talking about?” You asked looking at Hyewon like she grew two heads. Before she could answer, your attentions were drawn to the sound of the door slamming open. “Yoongi?” You gasped seeing him standing in the doorway panting for air. You watch as he looks around the roof before his gaze finally lands on you. You straightened yourself as he strides towards you. “What are you doing here?” You ask when he reaches you.
“Are you okay?” His hands cup your cheeks for any sign of tears. His eyes search yours for any sign of sadness. “Did she say anything to you?”
“What? Yeah, I’m fine.” You answered dazed from his touch. Your eyes searched Yoongi’s face to see any form of confirmation of Hyewon’s words.
Once he sees you’re okay, he turns to Hyewon with a different tone. “I told you to leave her alone. I told you if you made her cry one more time -”
You take Yoongi’s hand which was pointing at Hyewon accusingly. Hyewon wasn’t the least bit intimidated. Instead, she sported a condescending smirk on her face. God, you wished you had her confidence. Yoongi looks at your hand in his before looking at your face. You give him a smile. “She was apologising about that, so it’s okay.” His shoulders relaxed and the embarrassment washed over him. His cheeks dusted in rouge. You giggle at his sudden bashfulness. “Thank you for looking out for me though.” You squeezed his hand, and he gives you a smile. Your smile falls as Hyewon’s words filtered through your head.
“What? Nothing is even happening!” Adora drunkenly joins the three of you. She breaks your linked hands and stands in between you and Hyewon. “No fighting guys! It’s my birthday!”
“That’s not what you were saying before, Adora.” Hobi laughs.
Adora shrugs. “Well, it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen.” You and Hyewon look at each other and laugh. Your friends join you and Taehyung finds his place by your side. He nudges your elbow, and you share a look. You give a nod and a smile to let him know you’re okay. He nods in return before turning back to the conversation.
Your eyes search for Yoongi once more. Is there a possibility that what Hyewon said is true? Or could it be a cruel scheme Hyewon has set up to get back at you for Yoongi’s “pain”? Yoongi was whispering to Hyewon and based on his furrowed brows and Hyewon’s eyeroll, he was lecturing her. When he was finally done, Hyewon says something under her breath with a chuckle which made Yoongi shake his head. It looked like nothing was happening between them. You wanted to chastise yourself for jumping into the same conclusions everyone else did with you and Taehyung, heck, even you and Namjoon. You were always peeved at the idea that everyone believes two people of the opposite sex must be dating or, at least, fucking in order to maintain a relationship. You wanted to continue to berate yourself at your own hypocrisy, but a far more important topic is echoing in your head.
You try to recount every single memory you had with Yoongi for any sign you missed. Why was it everyone close to Yoongi is telling you he has feelings for you but the man himself? Hyewon’s confession just left you with more questions that only Yoongi can answer. How did the last interrogation go though? You promised each other blatant honesty but his answers contradicted itself; again, you were no closer to solving the mystery of what Yoongi is to you and what you are to him. Do you even deserve to know what he thinks about you when you’re not so sure yourself? You found him attractive when you first met him. He was innocent, genuine, and chivalrous. Once you got to know him, you found his company easy despite your heart beating loudly against your chest. You were giddy at the intimacy albeit fake but that was because of the adrenaline of your schemes. Right? The fluttering in your heart when you listened to him sing beautiful promises was because of his talent and ability in music and not because of the possible meaning behind his words and who they could be directed to. Right? Your thoughts drifting to his lips whenever your gaze lands on his soft beautiful face; wondering how they would feel pressed against yours, wondering how he would taste, that’s due to your lack of experience and natural curiousity. Right? You wanted to slap yourself for recalling the memory of when his lips finally met yours. Your emotions started to turn into rage. How dare he kiss you and then end the deal the same week? How dare he ask you to stay by his side but then tell you to only be with each other when there are others around? Yes, you may be confused about what your feelings are for Yoongi but isn’t that because of him? Your lack of confidence is due to him constantly leading you on only to shut you down. You sigh suddenly feeling deflated. What’s the point in being so angry? It’s not like you could confront him about this anyway.

It was weird. One day you were stalking her page in jealousy and the next you’re hanging out with her like she was your friend. Hyewon waves in her seat once she sees you walk through the door. You wave back and give a tight-lipped smile. “Hey, thanks for meeting me.” Hyewon says as you sit down across from her.
“No problem, if I’m being honest, I really wanted to continue our talk from last night.”
Hyewon smiles at your admittance. “Well, let me clear things up. As I’ve said, Yoongi is head over heels for you. He believed you weren’t and was constantly heartbroken to see you with Taehyung.”
“We’re just friends.” You defended.
“Just like you thought of Yoongi and I?” Hyewon counters making you shrink. “Hey, that’s a good thing - at least for Yoongi. You feeling some type of way about me because of our closeness must mean you like him too.”
“I’m not sure.” Hyewon frowns at this and crosses her arms. “Look, I’ve never liked anyone before and it’s not like Yoongi and I had the most straight-forward relationship - I mean given he broke up with me.” You added remembering your shared secret.
Hyewon holds up her hand. “I already know it was fake.”
Your blood ran cold. “So, he told you?” She nodded. “What else did he tell you?” You trusted Yoongi to keep your secret, but you couldn’t help but feel apprehensive at Hyewon’s answer. What if he felt that she would never meet you so there was no need to keep it a secret since it won’t interfere with your life anyway?
“Just the basics, how he found out you were the one his parents tried to set him up with. So, he approached you and explained his situation and you being the angel you are, agreed to fake date to get his parents off his back. You guys made the deal to keep dating and then ended it once your parents sorted their thing out.”
You visibly relaxed into your seat. “That’s more than just the basics. Not even our best friends know it was a fake relationship.”
“Yeah, he told me to keep it on the downlow.” You nodded. “Anyway, you’re right. The relationship you have with Yoongi isn’t normal and because the basis of your relationship started out with a lie, you don’t know what’s real and what’s not.”
“That’s exactly how I feel.” You jumped up in excitement. “Finally, someone who understands!”
Hyewon shakes her head. “I know how you feel, because that’s how Yoongi feels.” Your smile fades. There it is again, the squeezing feeling in your heart. Hyewon gives you a smile. “I know, it’s hard but maybe you should speak to Yoongi about this?” You open your mouth ready to protest when she holds her hand up to stop you. “Just think about it?”
You close your mouth and give her a smile. “Okay, I will.” Hyewon reaches out and squeezes your hand in comfort.

“You happy now?” You ask Adora as she stuffs her face with the cake you bought her.
She does a shoulder dance as she eats. “Hey, can you blame me? I’m your common denominator and you’re hanging out without me.”
“Yoongi is also a common denominator.” Hyewon points out earning an eyeroll from Adora.
“He’s an ex, I pull higher rank now.” You couldn’t help but laugh at Adora’s way with words. “But I’m glad you two are friends now.” You and Hyewon share a smile. “The three of us can go clubbing!” Adora starts pumping her arms gaining some attention.
You laugh giving her a hug to subdue her dancing. “Yeah, we’ll see. Clubbing is still not my thing.”
“Guess we have to change that.” Hyewon says menacingly.
“An accomplice!” Adora jumps out of your hold to cheer. Adora and Hyewon begin scheming while you sit and watch. You can barely handle Adora herself but with Hyewon working with her, you are no match for the two of them.

Jungkook takes a photo of you and Taehyung the second you reach him. “You’re such dorks.”
“I mean, of course, we are but why?” You asked setting down the snacks you bought from the convenience store.
“Your matching outfits.” Jungkook answers popping a chip in his mouth.
“If you’re jealous, Kook, we can match next time.” Taehyung teases ruffling his hair.
Jungkook swats his hand away. “Ah, Hyung!” You laugh pinching his cheek while he’s off guard. “Y/n!” He swats your hand away too. You and Taehyung laugh as Jungkook raises his hands in defence. You joined Jungkook in sitting and passed Taehyung his favourite bag of chips. “I made up with Yoongi, by the way.” Jungkook confesses almost mumbling.
You look up at him taken aback. Yoongi is a topic he rarely partakes in. Yes, he has heard your complaints to Taehyung, and he knows more than the gist of your complicated feelings towards Yoongi, but he never involves himself directly - well, not until recently at least. Jungkook has always been a kind person and he’s not the most affectionate person but he’s loyal and reliable. He usually takes on the lighter conversations, but he listens tentatively to the hard ones. “Good job, Kook.” Taehyung pats him on the back. “It’s good you’re being the bigger person.”
Jungkook rolls his eyes. “Yeah, whatever Dad.” Taehyung chuckles giving him a nudge before returning to his food. Jungkook’s eyes meet yours and you look at him in silent appreciation. You wanted to voice your thoughts out loud, but Jungkook is hardly the sappy type. Jungkook sends you a smile and a nod. You smile back knowing – hoping he truly understood what your eyes were trying to convey to him.

“Y/n!” Hyewon waves you down as soon as you and Taehyung entered the café.
You wave back and make your way to her table. “Sorry, we’ll just go over and say hi first.”
“No, we’re hanging out with her today.”
You looked at Taehyung perplexed. “Uh, what?” Taehyung gives you a knowing smile and walks ahead. You reached the table and sit across Hyewon while Taehyung sits next to you. You looked between the two who were just smiling at you. “Ok, so when did you guys start talking?” You ask starting to become suspicious.
“That’s the last time I order for us. Next time, you have a complicated order, do it yourself.” Someone complains behind you. You turn and you feel a lump in your throat. “Y/n?” You love the sound of your name coming from him. It never fails to cause butterflies in your stomach. “What are you doing here?”
“Don’t be rude. I asked y/n and Taehyung to join us.” Hyewon answered for you and pat the seat next to her. Yoongi scowls but sits down. You take note of him handing Hyewon a credit card which you assume is hers. Bribery. “You know, after everything I thought it would be nice if the four of us hang out.”
“And why would you think that?” Yoongi asks bitterly. You tried not to flinch at his spite. Of course, he doesn’t have feelings for you. How can he? He can barely stand being in the same room as you.
“I’m going to the toilet, be right back.” You excused yourself. This was all too confusing. You didn’t know if you could believe what Hyewon has told you. She seemed genuine when she apologised, and she seemed like a nice person after all. But you still can’t forget her hateful glare and biting words. There’s still a side to Hyewon that you need to be careful about.
“Hey, you okay?” Hyewon asks as she joins you. “Don’t take it personally, he didn’t know about this like you.” She reassures you.
You give her a weak smile. “I’m sorry Hyewon, but I don’t think I can believe he has any positive feelings for me at all. I mean how can I when he’s like that every time I’m around?”
Hyewon sighs and leans on the sink. “It’s not you, it’s Taehyung. That’s why we thought that maybe meeting and getting to know Taehyung will ease him.”
“I’ve already told him that Taehyung and I are just friends. I don’t think it’s Taehyung he has a problem with.” You roll your eyes and lean on the sink next to Hyewon.
“Just like how everyone in his life is telling you, he’s crazy about you? Heck, even your own friends who don’t know him are telling you that and you don’t believe it.” Hyewon argues.
“Ok, fair point.” You admitted which made Hyewon smile. “Convincing Yoongi that there’s nothing going on between Tae and I should be easy since there isn’t. Although, I don’t think sitting Tae and I next to each other is helping.”
Hyewon nudges your arm. “Damn, you want to be next to Yoongi that bad?” Your face heats up at her teasing. “This plan is about seeing you two for what you are so it’s better if he’s facing you both. But don’t worry, there will be plenty of times we’ll saddle you next to him.”
“Please don’t.” You begged hiding your face in embarrassment.
Hyewon laughs taking your hands away from your face. “Come on, let’s convince that idiot. Hopefully he hasn’t killed Tae yet.” She jokes but you look at her anxiously. You make your way back and you feel your heart lighten at seeing Yoongi fight back a smile at whatever Taehyung has said. “Well, looks like we’re worrying over nothing.” Hyewon comments as you both sit down.
“Yeah, we’re fine. More like you two are cramping our style.” Taehyung teases making you smile. “I’m gonna order for y/n and I. Hyewon can you help me pick which cake to have?” Taehyung gets up and gestures to the counter.
“I would love to! Be right back!” Hyewon jumps up in joy and leaves with Taehyung.
You see Yoongi poke the inside of his cheek with his tongue in annoyance. God, there’s absolutely no reason why you find that so attractive, but you do. “They’re about as subtle as a gun.” You joked trying to lighten the mood between you and Yoongi.
He turns to you with a less annoyed expression. “Hyewon can’t be discrete to save her life.”
You smile that he responded to your joking. “So, um, how did you two become friends in the first place?”
“We have classes together, so we knew of each other through there. We didn’t get close until we had to partner up for a project.” You nodded and silence filled the table.
Yoongi was waiting for you to respond but you didn’t. Once, he assumes the conversation has died, he goes on his phone to hide his disappointment. You couldn’t really pay attention to his current expression. You couldn’t stop thinking of asking the golden question. But he did technically confirm when you asked your first question. But that could mean that was how they got close in the first place. It doesn’t answer if that’s all she is to him. You see Hyewon and Taehyung make their way back and it was now or never. If you ask in front of them, they would probably give you the biggest shit-eating grin and you won’t be able to hide your embarrassment. If you ask at another time, it would be weird and out of context. You hear Hyewon laugh at something Taehyung said signalling that they were getting closer. Y/n, the time is now! “So!” You shouted making Yoongi jump. Some of the other patrons along with Hyewon and Taehyung look over at you. Hyewon grabs Taehyung’s arm to stop him from getting closer. “Sorry,” You shrink trying to ignore everyone’s stares. Yoongi puts his phone away and looks at you to continue. “So…you’re friends? She’s just a friend…to you?” You wanted to punch the air the second you asked the question. You wanted to crawl in a hole and never show your face again. You aren’t any better at subtlety in turns out.
Yoongi chuckles before leaning over the table. “Yeah, just a friend. I don’t see her as anything more than that.”
“Cool,” You nodded pursing your lips together. “Me too,” You agreed – for some reason. You looked away to cringe at yourself. You too?!
Yoongi scratches the tip of his nose hiding his smile. “Cool,”

Min Yoongi had consumed your every waking thought for the past six months. You couldn’t even think of a time when you weren’t thinking of him. He was a distraction. He distracted you from your rules, job and social life. You had no composure or control when it came to him. Well, you didn’t have control over anything but at least someone had control. Neither you nor Yoongi had the confidence to lead the other.
You sighed twiddling your thumbs as you stare at your ceiling. You needed to stop thinking about him. You needed a distraction. Your mind instinctively reaches for your phone. You swipe through your home screen and stop on the page with the esreservations app. The app had the red badge with the number fifty-two on it. You hadn’t gone on the app since you met Yoongi. You hadn’t had the time or energy to do reservations since you met him. But escorting was the only thing in your life that you could control – well, at least before Yoongi’s reservation. Maybe, that was what you needed to do right now. Go back to how things used to be. You open the app and open your requests tab. Luckily, the app filters the reservations from latest to oldest, so you didn’t need to sift through fifty requests until you got to the latest one. The latest request was done earlier this afternoon. Age: 24, Gender: male, Date: 11 September Friday. Request: I need to bring a plus 1 for my ex’s engagement party. This was another common request you got but you understand why your clients need you. You can only imagine the awkwardness and pity the other attendants would feel for you knowing you are the ex of the person who is clearly doing well in their life. Before you could really think it through, you accepted the request. Well, there’s no going back now. Upon sending your introductions, your client responds instantly. You repeated the terms and conditions and he agreed eagerly. You asked him for the general details of his event, but he wasn’t interested in speaking on the phone. It wasn’t unusual since most clients would like to avoid any paper trail as much as possible. The client seemed desperate enough for you to assume that he would be decent when you meet up with him. Your stomach flutters at the thought of going back to normalcy. You were anxious at the idea but felt relief at the familiarity as well.
━━━☆
You arrived 3 hours prior to the appointment. You weren’t one to make the same mistakes twice. You sat in hair & makeup while you prepared the necessary paperwork. “It’s been forever since I saw you, y/n.” Ginny, the senior makeup artist, a.k.a your identity saviour, quipped as she prepares your face. “Everyone thought you ran off with that photographer.”
You raised an eyebrow at the rumour. “Who?”
She looks at you with a smile. “You know, the handsome photographer you bent over backwards for.” You roll your eyes at her batting her eyelashes mocking you.
“He and I are friends; I knew him beforehand.” You dismissed going back to your paperwork.
“Boo! You’re always so boring.” She sticks out her tongue at you making you laugh. “So, what kind of look are you going for this time?” She asks once she’s done prepping your face.
“Well, the client needs me for his ex’s engagement party.” Ginny blows a low whistle. “Exactly, so I’m thinking of going for a bolder and sexier look? Maybe blonde with foxy makeup and a signature beauty mark.”
“Leave it to me,” She gives you a wink before getting to work.
━━━☆
A knock on your door alerted to you to your client’s presence. “Come in,” You acknowledged standing up and going to the door to greet your client. Kim opens the door and lets the broad figure in. “Hi, I’m Gloss.” You shake your client’s hand.
“Jack,” He introduces himself. “Thank you for accepting my request.” He says as you lead him to your desk.
You feel his dark green eyes follow you. “No need to thank me, it’s my job.” You responded just like you do every single time a client is appreciative. You always appreciated their courtesy, but you weren’t doing anything you weren’t being paid for. “So, shall we go through our backstory?” You sit down on the chair next to him.
Jack is a rich socialite with a hobby of travelling. Known to never be in one place for too long. That is until, he met Chaeyeon. She was his translator hired by his parents and he fell for her at first sight. He loved her so much he transferred to the Korea branch and even learned her language. They were perfect and in love until they weren’t. It had been three years since they broke up and she clearly had moved on. Although his parents allowed him to work in Korea and they never mentioned any distaste for Chaeyeon when Jack told his parents his plans of proposing, their true feelings came to light. In the end, they gave an ultimatum – his inheritance or Chaeyeon. You obviously knew where it went from there. He was a peculiar one. Most clients looking for a date when an ex is involved is usually because they were dumped or embarrassed. Jack made his choice, and you didn’t understand why he would want to bring a date to the “love of his life’s” engagement unless he wanted to hurt her all over again? You shook your thoughts away. It wasn’t your place to judge your clients. You are supposed to be a safe place – free of judgement. It is just a job, after all.
After understanding the background, you start establishing his “dream girl”. Initially, you would have thought it was someone sweet and pure as he described Chaeyeon, but you were the opposite. Your name is Mae, a rich socialite with a taste of the fine life. A fun party girl but is at least classy about it. The kind of girl that steals the show. You were unnerved by his requests but again, this is your job. Unsurprisingly, you guys had the same social circle and have always had a flirty relationship but never went further. But then, he found solace in you and what was once a distraction to forget became a reason for him to start again and get his shit together. You nodded your head impressed at his story boarding skills. Almost like he had this grand story in his head for years. Maybe he’s a hopeless romantic?
You leaned back in your seat as you begin diving into Jack’s personal life. Best friend? Mason, another rich socialite who he grew up with. They were even neighbours and would go up to his parents’ lake cabin to ride jet skis and drink. Degree? “MBA and I’m only 24.” He emphasises irking you again. You had been out of the game for too long. Of course, you have had your fair share of clients who believed they were God’s gift to women. You always had to bite back the question, then why are you here? And you had gotten good at it too – being stoic and professional. Never wavering no matter, the crap coming out of their mouths. You were good at steeling yourself for the worst and keeping a poker face.
Your usual routine was to interview the client, set up the backstory, study the client’s life, then get ready for the event. Usually, the clients leave so that the two of you can go and get ready. Jack didn’t. “Would it be okay if I help choose what you’ll be wearing?” He asks when you hinted at parting ways before the time of the reservation.
You hesitated before forming a smile. “Of course, do you have any suggestions?”
“I don’t really know much about fashion. Do you have some options for me?” Accepting that he isn’t going to leave, you get up and lead him to the wardrobe section of hair and makeup. As you enter the room, you lock eyes with Ginny who was styling Hyunjin. The pair found it odd seeing a client follow you through the backstage process. It was allowed, of course, but it was a first for you. You greeted Toni who is the head stylist of esreservations. “Hi, I’m Jack.” He extends his hand for Toni to shake which he took graciously. “In terms of style wise, I want Gloss –”
“Mae,” You corrected. “You should get used to saying my name.” You explained after seeing his face drop.
In a blink of an eye, he flashes his pearly whites. “Oh, that’s right!” He clears his throat to move on. “I want, Mae, to look classy but alluring. Mature but feminine. The kind of dress that would make it seem like she’s leagues above the normal people.” He addresses Toni who gives you a look. You’re surprised Jack doesn’t dare say the word ‘peasant’. “You know, I want her to look like she comes from money but not fake money. Not how people show off their designer anything which they’re paying with 15 credit cards. Subtle rich vibes, ya know?”
“I’ll see what I can do.” Toni answers slowly. This wasn’t the first client to be so demanding and obnoxious, but it still wasn’t something to get used to. And demanding is the perfect word to describe Jack. “This is option six.” Toni announces as he opens the dressing room curtain for you. You went through five outfits that did not only fit the bill of what Jack needed but they were also ones you really liked. It was starting to get annoying for you and insulting for Toni. He wasn’t designer of the year for nothing.
You stepped out in a black knit set which didn’t seem to impress Jack at all. “Spin around for me.” You clench your jaw at how he was leaning back in his chair with his legs spread and his finger waving you around but spun around, nonetheless. He straightened himself upon seeing the backless feature. “This is the one.” He says making you sigh in relief. “You should have your hair up though – it’ll make the backless feature stand out more.” You see Ginny pretending to hit him behind his back. You can only imagine if it was Ginny he was picking apart. There wouldn’t be anything left of him. Well, you’ll give it to him, he does have taste. You watched yourself through the mirrors as you make your way to Ginny. The fluffy long sleeve was warm and classy, and the black skirt hugged your hips nicely. The backless feature gave the seductive edge that he wanted while remaining modest. Toni accessorised you with a designer bag and subtle but expensive jewellery.
“I don’t know how you do it, y/n.” Ginny comments once you reach her. “If it was me, the dude wouldn’t have a mouth to flap.”
You laugh. “And that’s why you’re the stylist and I’m the escort.”
She shakes her head in disappointment. “Are they all like this?” She starts gathering the wig for a low bun.
You can’t help the shy smile form as you think of him. “Not all of them.”
───────── ☾ • ☽ ──────────
The night went off without a hitch. It’s been a while since that happened. Chaeyeon was as lovely as Jack had described her – maybe even more. She was even happy for him that he found someone else. You nearly felt sorry for Jack if only you weren’t reminded of his attitude problem. Sure, he grew up with the world at his feet but that didn’t mean his behaviour was acceptable. During the night, he and Chaeyeon slipped off somewhere. It wasn’t your concern. The entire night he watched her with stars in his eyes. Chaeyeon noticed it as well since she was the one that asked to speak privately. You hope she doesn’t fall for it. Her fiancée was the polar opposite of Jack. He was soft, kind and humble. At least from what you can tell. I mean what kind of man would allow his woman to bring an ex-lover to their celebration?
When Jack came back, it was like a switch had flipped. His attention was on you for the rest of the night. You assumed Chaeyeon set him straight and killed any belief of hope he had left. He even took you back to the HQ which you would never peg him to do since the night was over.
“Thank you for tonight.” Jack says once you were on your floor.
You smile. “Again, no need to thank me for doing my job.”
Jack breathes out a chuckle and runs his hand through his hair. What a waste of good looks, you think as you watch his hair fall back into place framing his forehead. “I know but you saved my face tonight. If it weren’t for you, everyone would be pitying me.” You wave his appreciation off as no big deal. He takes your hand lightly and kisses your knuckle. “So, thank you.” He looks up at you with your hand still in his.
You give him a tight-lipped smile before slipping your hand away. “You’re welcome. Good night, Jack. Get home safe.” He nods and slips back into the elevator. Once the elevator door closes your smile falls. “Because sending heart eyes to your ex from across the room doesn’t call for sympathy?” You criticised under your breath. It wasn’t anything personal against Jack. Yes, he was a jerk at times, but you made sure to see the red flags of your clients to avoid catching any form of affection for them – whether that’d be attraction or sympathy. It’s just a job and it requires professionalism. Nothing personal. Kim gives you a knowing smile from hearing your comment which you return.
You head to the styling room to return everything. Ginny and Toni were sitting down having tea when you entered. “How awful was he on a scale from one to ten?” Toni asks as you remove the wig.
“Considering, the worst thing he did was send love signals to his ex – one?” You started the process of removing the makeup after taking off the jewellery you had on.
“One? That’s low for someone who didn’t do anything that bad.” Hyunjin joins in rubbing his wet hair with a towel.
“Well, he was already at a zero from this afternoon.”
“Fair,” Hyunjin agrees along with Ginny and Toni nodding in the back.
“Upped to a four for not being an asshole at all making everything easier. Then back to a three for staring at his ex all night. And then a two for going off somewhere with said ex.” Everyone in the room cringed at the red flag. “And then he dropped down to a one for kissing my hand when we said goodbye.” They laughed at your reasoning.
“For most girls, including myself, that would at least up him to a four.” Ginny argues despite admitting to wanting to decapitate him earlier.
“You should have seen his face.” You leave the dressing room in your own clothes. You put the set in the laundry hamper. “He looked at me as if I was supposed to get weak-knees.” You dry heaved to make a point.
“Ah, the good old bedroom eyes.” Toni starts wiggling his eyebrows. “I mean, you don’t always have to like who you find attractive or sleep with.”
“Please, I’d rather wipe my makeup off with sandpaper.” Everyone visibly cringed at the idea.
“Okay, we get it. He’s awful and you’re not interested.” Ginny holds her hand up for you to stop. Being a makeup artist herself, that analogy felt personal.
“Does y/n ever like any of her clients?” Hyunjin brings up the age-old question.
“Like Toni says, I don’t have to like them.” You answered deadpan.
Hyunjin rolls his eyes. “Yeah, it’s a job for me too. But there were some clients that I didn’t mind or even liked – not enough to want to take it somewhere but enough to enjoy my job and what I’m doing with them.”
“Nope, not a single one pops to mind.” You shrug popping the p in nope. An obvious lie but they didn’t need to know otherwise.
“She’s not the iron maiden for nothing.” Toni reminds Hyunjin of your nickname. “When I asked Hyori why she recruited y/n, she said, and verbatim, she’s strong and uninterested.” It was your turn to laugh.
It was true. Growing up, your parents taught you discipline. Once you had your mind set on something, there is no going back. You were always so sure and headstrong. Once you set the rules for this job, you never looked back. You not once felt tempted to break any of the rules. It was your control system. “Alright, I’m heading home. It’s a long train ride back.” You get up and waved your goodbyes. You made your way-out saying goodbye to Kim. You turn your phone off airplane mood and go through your notifications as you waited for the elevator.
Despite everything that was said, you were glad you took up the request. It reminded you of how it used to be and how it could go back to normal if you wanted it. A reset. A life with control. A life without Yoongi. Your smile twitched at the thought. You didn’t like it, but you had to think about why you need it. You needed a break from the confusion and heartache. You were tired. It’s for the best. You needed to let go, you concluded as you stepped outside the building. The cool air greets your cheeks making you sigh in pleasure. You turn to make your way to the station when you see Yoongi on his phone leaning against the building. He had his earphones in, and his phone screen was the only reason you knew it was him as it illuminated his face. As if he sensed your gaze, he looks up locking eyes with you. He puts his phone away and takes out his earphones. “You done for the night?” He asks casually pushing himself off the wall.
“Yeah,” You watch him make his way toward you. You could only look up at him dumbly.
“Let’s go home then,” He nods his head towards the station. He doesn’t wait for your response and starts walking with his hands in his pockets. You catch up to him but stepped further to be ahead of him in your pettiness.
━━━☆
As usual, you both spent the train ride home in silence. Again, it was a comfortable silence. Yoongi didn’t say anything or even looked your way during the entire ride. You wondered why he bothered coming all that way if he was going to be so distant. You wanted to pout. How can he be so hot and cold? You followed him off the train and walked back to your dorm. It was late but you didn’t want it to end. You watch him lead you to your dorm building. Another night where he drops you off without a word. Before giving yourself time to hesitate, you grab his sleeve. He stops once he feels your pull. He turns looking at you with curiosity – the first time of the night, he’s shown any emotion. “Are you hungry?”
He finally smirks. “Are you paying?” You wanted to slap that smirk of his face. Why is your heart beating so loud at seeing him smile? Why are you feeling funny at the sight of him being playful. You could only nod in response, worried the lump in your throat would be clear. “Alright, let’s go.”
Yoongi takes you to one of the few restaurants open late. You sit across from him and feel nostalgic. It’s been a while since you’ve eaten together just the two of you. “So, how did you know where I was?” You finally asked while you eat.
“I still have my account.” He answers mid-chew. You hummed acknowledging his explanation. The real question is, why? “Did you reply to Jungkook?”
You tilt your head in confusion. “He didn’t message me?”
Yoongi clenches his jaw. You see betrayal flash in his eyes. “He said he couldn’t get in contact with you and was asking me if I knew where you were.”
“Oh, well Tae messaged me, but it wasn’t like he was trying his hardest to get in contact with me.” You chuckle. If sending two messages is even called an attempt.
Yoongi rolls his eyes and leans back in his seat. “I should have known. I mean why would they think I would know where to find you of all people?”
Your smile falters. “You did know where to find me though.” Yoongi looks into your eyes. “Of all people, you are probably the best person to come looking for me.” He smiles pleased with your compliment.
“I’m the best person because I know where to find you or it’s because it’s me that’s looking for you?” Yoongi leans on the table with the same mischievous twinkle in his eyes.
You flush and lean away. “Look at it however you want.” Yoongi laughs at your bashfulness. You don’t know if you missed Yoongi’s smoothness or not. It always made your hear race but too much where you think you might die – you swear it’s not an exaggeration.

You weren’t surprised when you woke up the next day and saw another request from Jack. You didn’t know why, even though he was a walking red flag of a client, you accepted his request. A part of you was intrigued to see how it will go. Call it unprofessional but your client’s lives were entertaining and you got front row seats to it all. Another part of you associated the feeling of normalcy to him.
After sorting the details with Jack, you message Yoongi. You hadn’t got home until 3 am and once you were, you were knocked out once your head lay on your soft pillow. You recollect last night. After a bumpy start, you and Yoongi fell back into rhythm. You caught each other up about what you could with such little time you had. You eventually had to move the conversation to a nearby park since it was so late. It felt like years since you felt at ease with him. You laughed and teased each other like there was nothing going on between the two of you. Maybe there isn’t. Maybe you needed to relax and stop overthinking things. Your relationship with Yoongi came naturally when you stopped thinking too much and let go. Keep things simple and enjoy yourself. But the night had to come to an end. You didn’t want it to end. You didn’t want to let the nerves come back and ruin things for you again. Yoongi had to basically force you into your bed. You denied it but he could see your eyes fighting to close. He didn’t take your lame excuse of having dry eyes. He carried you on his back from the park to your dorm. You were too tired to fight him about it. When he bent over and showed you his warm inviting back, how could you say no in your sleep-deprived state? Well, you didn’t really want to miss out on the opportunity. You relished in the feeling of him. It’s been so long since you got to be so close to him. It was like the night he asked you to stay over but this was a different kind of intimacy. When you laid with him, you listened to the sound of his heart beating. You listened as if it was talking to you. You relished in the light sway of your head in the rhythm of his breathing rocking you like you were in a cradle. Your back and arms burned at the weight of his arms around you almost like you wanted to have a permanent reminder of the feeling. This time, you could feel the warmth radiating from his back. You could hear his breaths with every step he took. You could see the hairs on his face raising due to the night breeze. You couldn’t stop your smile. You buried your face in his neck to hide your happiness. He still smells the same from that night. Your heart squeezed at the thought. He’s still the same person you remembered. But things aren’t the same anymore.
You thank Yoongi for taking you home. You can’t remember if you managed to say thank you when he laid you down in your bed. Your heart started racing at his replies. Why does he do this to you? You squealed into your pillow once you read his words. If Taehyung was here, he would think your standards are low. If Jungkook was here, he would think you’re crazy. Maybe they would be right.

“Why would you take another request from him?” Ginny screeches when you ask for the same look as last time since you had Jack again. “He was insufferable!”
“Good thing, I’m the one going on a date with him and not you.” You laugh as situate yourself on the seat.
She shakes her head but prepares the same wig as last time. “I’m telling you, y/n, this guy is bad news.” Ginny looks you in the eyes after putting on your wig cap to show how serious she was.
You only smile. “A trust fund baby, they’re the worst.” She visibly frowns at your joking. “He’s fine, Gin. He’s a jerk, sure. Maybe have some psychological issues but honestly, what sane person would hire a fake girlfriend or boyfriend to lie to people they know?”
“Okay, fine. But don’t say I didn’t tell you so.” She points her finger at you making you raise your hands up in surrender. She laughs and shakes her head getting to work.
━━━☆
Because it was the second meeting, your preparation with Jack didn’t take as long. He went through the basis of the event which is a business dinner party. What he expected of you, same as before, esteemed socialite who will make everyone jealous of him. Of course, he wanted to choose your outfit as well. After going through a couple of options that didn’t hit the “mark”. He got up himself and went through the wardrobe. “He’s a control-freak, if anything.” Toni whispers to you as you watch Jack go through the clothes frustrated.
“More like a freak in general.” Ginny comes up from behind scaring you.
You put your hand over your chest. “God, you really don’t like him, do you?” Before Ginny could answer, Jack comes back with a gorgeous tight-fitting black velvet dress. “Well, you must give it to him. He’s got some taste.” You commended.
“With a fetish for backs, I guess.” Ginny comments making you smile.
You go up to Jack and take the dress from him graciously. Toni follows with a pair of heels and bag in hand. You put the dress on, and Ginny was right. He must have some kind of fetish for backs because once again you are in a backless dress. You wouldn’t say it’s quite appropriate for a work dinner, but the guy did want you to stand out and it did fit your profile. You stepped out and Toni hands you the bag. “This is the one, you look gorgeous.” Jack stands up and takes your hand.
You watch Ginny sour, and you give him a small smile. “Thank you,” You let go of his hand naturally by going over the accessories. “Which do you think would go with this, Toni?”
Toni steps up and stands next to you. “Keep it simple, love. Let’s go with this.” He hands you a pair of small but thick silver hoop earrings and a beautiful ring to match. You both turned to Jack who only nods and walks away seemingly uninterested. You share a look with Toni at Jack’s sudden mood change before heading over to Ginny to finish with hair and makeup.
━━━☆
Unlike the first reservation, Jack was by your side the entire night. Most likely because he didn’t have Chaeyeon to distract him. He either had his arm wrapped around your waist or had his hand guiding the small of your back. You weren’t uncomfortable with the skinship. It’s expected. Some clients are touchier than others but to be fair, you are supposed to be dating them. If they don’t go any further or push their luck, it’s fine. You don’t even blink at their touch. You can’t afford to. The entire night, he showed you off to anyone and everyone. You feel some eyes linger on your form as you pass to greet another person. Another thing you had to get used to. The night was a success. You laughed at all his jokes, charmed everyone you spoke to, and Jack was tolerable this time. Maybe it was because he was in front of people he worked with.
The dinner was coming to an end. The boat had returned to the dock, and you were both outside speaking to each other about nothing real. A fake conversation of pleasantries and small talk. ‘Did you enjoy your night? What did you think of dinner?’ Normal things a couple would speak about. It was only interrupted when one of the top managers had requested Jack for business. Jack apologises to you and leaves you with a kiss on your hand. A normal sign of affection for couples. You give him a loving smile and waved him off. Once he was gone, you frowned. You couldn’t help but remember the last time he pulled that stunt. He still had the same greasy eyes as last time. You shivered at the thought. You took your phone out to kill the time – something you wouldn’t normally do but everyone seemed to be finished for the night and there was nothing to do. You turn your phone off airplane mode and scrolled through your Instagram when you received a message from Yoongi. Even though you know you couldn’t see him, you still looked up and looked over at the parking lot. There were other people in the parking lot either leaving from the cruise or other people enjoying the river. You couldn’t pick him out from the crowd, but you weren’t surprised, he was most likely camouflaged in all black.
You put your phone away suddenly regaining your energy back again. As you turn to look for Jack, you bump right into him. “Oh, sorry!” You squeaked.
He holds you in his arms to stabilise you since you were in heels. “It’s alright, love.” He soothes his hands drifting from your arms to your waist.
It was normal. You knew that. But you didn’t like the way he looked at you. It was eerie how good he was at looking like he loved you. Is this how all your clients feel when you start the show? “Are we nearly done?” You ask sounding too professional. Jack’s eyes steel at your tone. “I want to go home, baby. These heels are killing me, and you owe me a foot rub when we get home!” You pout and playfully smack his arm and left your hand on his arm to return the affection.
Jack’s eyes light up again. “I’m sorry, love. I must take a rain check on that massage.” You tilt your head confused and cross your arms pretending to be upset. “Oh, don’t be like that.” He takes your hand and you let him. “You know, I have work to do.”
“Doesn’t mean I can't get upset when it steals you away.” You answer with a slight whine. This comes naturally to you. It was a first that a client ended the night short, but you knew all the big shots love to be wanted – no, needed by their lover.
Jack smiles satisfied. “Nothing can keep me away from you, my love.” He brings your hand up to his lips and kisses your knuckles once again. You watch his eyes filled with sincerity and force a smile. You watch his eyes bore into yours as he straightens. A warm feeling blossoms in the pit of your stomach. He guides your hand down and gives you a smile. “I’ll see you at home, my love.” He kisses your cheek and gestures for you to head to the dock. Why does he say it like that? You could feel the rumble of his voice when he calls you that intimate nickname. You make your way to the gangway stopping to look back to find Jack already gone from where you left him. Well, the night is over. You exchanged goodbyes with the strangers you pretended to remember and make your way to the parking lot.
You shake your thoughts away and collect yourself. The walk to the parking lot was long and excruciating. You had to fight the skip in your step once you finally see Yoongi. It was no wonder you couldn’t find him; the man is in all black as you suspected. “It’s no fair, how am I supposed to see you when you’re camouflaged with the dark?” You teased as soon as you reached him.
“It’s not my fault, you look like a glow in the dark stick.” He retorts making you smack him playfully. “Those heels must be killing you.” He comments making you look at the stilettos in question.
“It’s what I get paid for.” You laughed and shrug nonchalantly, but Yoongi doesn’t share your amusement. “I’m used to it, Yoongs. I’m fine.” He doesn’t say anything and bends down pulling out a pair of slippers from a grocery bag placing them by your feet. Your body suddenly felt warm despite the lack of clothing you had and the cool night air. Yoongi didn’t even wait for you to register what has happened as he began unbuckling the straps on your ankles; the tension finally releasing. He gently guides your feet off and places it directly underneath the pair of slippers and he does the same for the other side. He places the heels in the bag and gets up from the ground.
“Let’s go.” He says gesturing to the taxi stands outside the parking lot. He doesn’t wait for you again and you watch him walk off carrying your heels with him.

The library is your favourite place.
At least, that is until your predictable love for it comes to a disadvantage. May your tranquil moments alone rest in peace as your friends corner and gaslight you to leaving your sanctuary. Sometimes, it’s for parties. Other times, it’s for something stupid like driving to the next town to watch a movie at their theatre because their theatre chairs recline better.
You won’t have it this time.
No way. You have so much work to do!
"Oh, come on! Please, ___?” Hobi begs. “Come tonight! It'll be fun!" Suddenly, he’s clinging to your arm, making it harder for you to ignore him. You try shaking him off, but he pouts at you and clings on even tighter.
“Hobi,” you whine. “Go to the party if you wanna go. Jimin said he’d meet you there! And Nam Joon, and Taehyung, Jin, and even Yoongi!”
“But I want you to come!” He cries. “I need someone to keep count of my drinks—”
“Use a marker and tally it on your arm.”
“But then what if I need to throw up—”
“Then throw up.”
“... Jungkook will be there!”
You blink at him.
“So?”
Hobi lets go of your arm and raises a brow at you. “What do you mean so? Isn't he your boyfriend?”
His accusation has you tongue-tied. This is the first time you’ve ever heard such an absurd thing! Jungkook became a part of the friendgroup after you. He’s the newbie. Actually, he has a whole other set of friends aside from you guys. Why? Because he’s cool. That’s it. Everyone on campus knows him and truth be told; he deserves his hype. He’s good-looking, kind, and a little weird (in a good way). He’s funny and smart (but not in an obnoxious way)... He’s just… Kind of good at everything? It intimidates you and often leaves you daydreaming.
Come to think of it, everything happens by coincidence. Yours and his lectures usually start and end around the same time. Not to mention that he also loves the library! He usually walks you home after your study sessions. But, yeah… Aside from these things—you and Jungkook aren’t actually that close.
“W-what? I’m not dating Jungkook! Doesn’t he have a girlfriend?” you ask, careful not to sound too noisy.
Hobi shakes his head. “Girlfriend? Yeah… You.”
Your eyes widen.
In a panic, you hiss at Hobi. “Don’t start rumours! That’s embarrassing for him to be associated with me—”
“Oh shut up,” Hobi laughs. “Do not get all insecure and pick me when the campus crush has literally been drooling over the past few weeks. Everybody knows. Everybody talks about it! Besides, they talk about him being all lovestruck—not you! So, spill it. What did you do, huh? Did you manifest it or some shit—”
“With all the time I spend in class, work, and the library… You think I have time to manifest?” you chuckle at him, ultimately trying to dismiss his suspicion.
Hobi rolls his eyes at you.
“For someone who reads fanfics and book loads of romance stories… You’re dense as fuck.”
Tilting your head at him, you try to find the words to defend yourself and fail.
He’s right.
You are dense.
But that never hurt anyone before… So why does it matter?
“Earth to ___?” Hobi waves his hands to your face. You blink, brushing your thoughts away. Offering him a tired smile, he looks at you weirdly. “You okay?”
“Yeah,” you exhale. “Why?”
“You’re blushing like crazy,” he teases, poking your cheek. Your hands fly to your cheeks. He’s right. They feel warm and the sudden embarrassment just made you feel even more flustered. Then, he nudges you.
“Get it together!” Hobi mutters, “Your boyfriend is coming!"
Turning your head, you see Jungkook making his way through the doors. He has his backpack on one shoulder and his eyes glued to his phone. Like muscle memory, he turns his heels and walks toward your direction.
“Oh my god,” you hit Hobi’s arm. “Why did you plant these thoughts when he’s literally—”
“Plant thoughts? Babes, it’s reality. Helllooooo?” Hobi sings, tauntingly.
You pout at him, unable to take this lighthearted.
Then, before you know it, Jungkook approaches you.
He pulls the seat next to you out and settles in. After offering a fist bump to Hobi, he quickly leans his body over and places his hand on your knee. He’s always done this but why was it suddenly so different now? It’s because of what Hobi said! Wow…
“Hey, you.” Jungkook greets you warmly.
“... H-hi.”
He gives you a weird look. You avoid his eyes in return. Clearing his throat, he asks, “Why aren’t you packed up yet? Aren't we going to the party?”
Jungkook eyes your spread of notes on the table. You clunch your iPad closer to you and shrug. “Packed for what? Aren’t you going to the party?”
“Yeah, ___!” Hobi chimes cheekily. “Aren’t you going to the party?”
Hesitantly, you shake your head.
“N-no… I have too much work to do. Here! I’ll just—” you pause your sentence and reach for Hobi’s arm. Pushing his sleeve up, you take the sharpie from your pencil case and write on his arm.
If piss drunk, please return to ___.
(xxx) xxx-xxxx <3
Hobi reads it sideways and yanks his arm back.
“I hate you,” he utters. With laser eyes, he glares at Jungkook. “Tell her you’re coming to the party. Drag her to come! She’s always here! Homework can wait for tomorrow!”
Jungkook exchanges looks with you. With a soft gaze, he shrugs and turns to Hobi.
“She doesn’t wanna go.”
Hobi groans.
“Fine. Let’s go. Let’s leave—”
“I’m staying,” Jungkook says calmly. "She's not going... Neither am I."
He picks his backpack up from the ground and begins to unzip it. Taking out his notes and laptop, he looks up and smiles at Hobi. “Can I see your arm?”
Huffing, Hobi shows Jungkook your note. As Hobi rambles on and on about how you and Jungkook are party poopers, Jungkook takes your Sharpie and crosses your number out.
If piss drunk, please return to ___.
(xxx) xxx-xxxx <3
(xxx) xxx-xxxx - Jungkook
For the second time tonight, Hobi reads his arm sideways and yanks it back. He squints at the unfamiliar number.
“Why’d you cross her number out? Whose number is this?” Hobi asks.
“Mine,” Jungkook states, smiling at the correction. “Call me if you need anything.”
“What? Why?”
Jungkook blinks. “I’m not really crazy about ___’s number being on your arm for other guys to have and call her with.”
Hobi’s mouth drops. He slowly turns to you and gulps. Blinking at you slowly, he gives you crazy eyes. “You can not be this dense, ___. Jungkook is literally ripping me into shreds in his head right now—”
You laugh.
“Go. Have fun! Call me if you need anything.”
Hobi turns to Jungkook.
Jungkook smiles at him sweetly with his eyes closed. He shakes his head slowly and wiggles his finger at him. “Don’t let them use her number.”
With that, Hobi grumbles a few exchanges before packing his stuff up. He waves goodbye and tells you that you’re lame one last time. You agree with him and wave him goodbye. As he leaves, Jungkook moves his chair closer to you.
“So… Same schedule? Study until 9PM and then I walk you home? Or are you hungry tonight? Maybe we can wrap this up by 7:30PM and grab a bite to eat? I know a really good burger spot just up campus—why’d you do that?”
Your body stiffens.
“Do what?”
Jungkook eyes your chair distance.
“You moved away.”
What the heck… How did he even notice? It’s not like you moved across the table! You just moved like… Half an inch.
“No, I didn’t,” you deny. “But yeah… Sure! I’ve been craving a good burger with extra cheese—what are you doing?”
“I’m moving closer to you.”
“Why?”
“Because you lied to my face and moved away.”
“N-no!”
Jungkook inches his face closer to yours. He boops your nose and scrunches his. “You sniff whenever you lie. Did you know that?”
“N-no…”
“Now you do.”
For the first time ever… You lose your breath. It’s like you forgot how to breathe. He’s so close to you. His eyes are so doey, you’re literally getting lost in them. The scar he has on his left cheek… You can see it so clearly—the detail of how his skin healed and all. His hair is brushing above his eyebrows and you can’t help but realize how much you like the way it falls on his face. He’s… Cute?
Oh god.
“D-dont do that—uhh—” You move away from him. This time, there’s an obvious space between you two. Jungkook straightens his posture, completely confused by your burst of emotion. It’s… Conflicting? He swears you two were about to kiss… Now, what’s going on?
“___? What’s wrong?” Jungkook asks with a gentle tone.
You turn away and shove your notes to your face. Mumbling into the paper, you tell him what’s on your mind. “Everyone thinks you have a crush on me and it’s embarrassing.”
Jungkook doesn’t hear you well.
“Say that again,” he requests. Without warning, he takes the paper from your hands, leaving you to face him. “Don’t act all cute. What is it?”
You stay silent and contemplate.
Was this worth saying? Was this worth addressing? Would it change anything between you two after? What about the burgers? You’ve been craving a cheesy burger like crazy—
“It’s fine if you don’t feel comfortable. You can tell me later or never. I don’t mean to be pushy—”
Then, you blurt it out.
“Everyone thinks you have a crush on me… Or something.”
Jungkook doesn’t flinch. He doesn’t hold his breath.
He doesn’t deny it.
“I do have a crush on you.”
Your throat feels try. What?! Has he lost his mind?
“W-what? You can’t j-just—”
Jungkook tilts his head and pouts.
“I don’t really understand why I should deny it. Why should I lie? Why should I make an excuse? This is how I feel. You just found out earlier than the confession… I guess this is it though, right?” He laughs.
You hit his chest.
“This isn’t funny!”
“Why can’t it be funny?” Jungkook laughs even harder. He catches your wrist and holds you still. “Doesn’t it make you laugh? That everybody on campus watched me wait outside your classes every day for almost 3 months… That everybody waits on me to go to parties but I don’t show up because I rather walk you home and stay home… That everybody on campus watched me enter this goddamn library of a snoozefest—”
“Hey! I like it here.”
“Yeah,” he rolls his eyes at you. “I like you. That’s why I’m here.”
“I… I thought you wanted to study.”
Jungkook laughs even louder, earning a few hushes from others nearby. He groans, throwing his head back. “I can’t even fucking laugh in here without getting in trouble. Why the hell would I like this place?”
“... To study!”
“To be with you.”
You shut up.
No words, no thoughts, no feelings.
Okay…
Feelings. Lots of them.
“I don’t understand why you’re so overwhelmed,” Jungkook murmurs, leaning his head against your shoulders. “I thought you knew. I thought you figured it out by now. I wasn't exactly discrete."
You sit still, not knowing if you should move or let him settle in. Before you can decide, he sits himself up and grabs your hand. He squeezes it tightly and brings it to his lips. Kissing your hand, he looks at you.
“Doesn’t matter if you’re dense. Doesn’t matter if you don’t know how you feel right now. I’ll win you over… You’ll fold."
You yank your hand away from him. In response, he leans over and kisses the side of your head instead. You blush, and cover your face with your hands. He laughs heartily, tugging you close to him. You bury your face in his chest and groan at the sinking feeling of wanting to be anywhere but here. This was humiliating!
And just when you think it can't get any worse, Jungkook wraps his arms around you and hugs you tight. As he pats your back, he murmurs—
"You're falling for me already, aren't you?"
