I am ashamed to say that I watched the film because I saw a clip of this mf, and it did not disappoint.

Regarding Death Wolf...

Hear me out (NO, it's not the kind you are thinking)

We know Death has a job, right? To collect souls and most likely release them to the afterlife.

And for this job, he has to be there when somebody is about to die, as demostrated with him being there moments before Puss' eight death.

Supposing he is THE Death and he has been doing this since the beginning of time (or at least when there were enough stories of the Grim Reaper to adquire a physical form) that means he has seen a lot, A LOT of awful things.

Murders, suicides, massacres, death of infants, people who didn't deserve to die alone, animal cruelty, some other heavy stuff I won't mention here, etc etc etc.

And we thought "man, how is he able to cope with all of that? That job has to be utter torture for someone."

Probably many of you could think that he is able to do that because he is Death, and he was "born" with that purpose and only him can reap souls perfectly.

But while he is a force of nature, he also WAS a force of nature. Let me explain it well: He adquired a personality enough to be angry, excited, frustrated, amazed, happy, among other emotions.

While he has supernatural power and is most likely the most powerful being in the Shrek Franchise (or in Dreamworks as many say) he is also a PERSON.

Someone with a code of honor, morals, opinions, beliefs, etc.

Returning to the question "How can he bear all of that?" taking into account he is no longer an inevitable force, but a character of his own.

The answer is something you may relate to, and that is: Creativity and escapism.

To be the embodiment of Death, the guy is a very creative fella.

First of all, his design. I heard many people saying here and in Twitter that his design is something they would come up in their edgy, teen years of drawing their first fursona.

Guess what? They are right, the wolf form is someone's fursona. It's DEATH'S fursona. He clearly came up with this badass, piercing canine form to blend with the Fairy Tale Land assuming the form of the "Big Bad Wolf". He most likely had other forms he designed over the centuries and was able to present as them like if he were on a role play game in the living world.

His sickles? The weapon of choice with the little crossed cats on it to have a bigger effect of terror for Puss? Those who can become knuckles and join to create a scythe? Those are his creation, probably after thinking it for a while and writing all of those functions on a paper.

The way he presents himself? In the bar? The coins in his eyes as a "watching you" sign while being a cool reference to the Ferryman of souls? He transforming Perrito's forest into the background of a skull? The chilling reveal at the Cave of Lost Souls? The fire ring? It was all him.

As for the escapism part...

When the world becomes too heavy to deal with as real life issues tend to make us feel bad, depressed, angry... we tend to escape it somewhere. And in our time the common place would be the internet as in webpages or comics, stories, etc.

But what has to do with Death Wolf you may ask?

Well, while he would NEVER be able to escape his job entirely, he can have moments where he can enjoy a good hunt of people who don't appreciate life, like the whole plot of the Puss in Boots sequel could demostrate.

He managed to have a little time outside his eternal routine to chase an arrogant cat who took life for granted. He enjoyed it, it was thrilling, it was exciting.

It was a way to escape a monotonous, grim "life", if just for a short moment.

So, when the chase ended as his prey no longer feared him and now was ready to fight for his last life, the wolf retreats, happy for Puss' character development but resigned because he once again had to return to "The Eternal Duty"

And that's not even counting all the times Jack "I'm dead inside" Horner had to interrupt Lobo's hunt and remind him of his job even in his "spare time"

Death knew the chase had to end eventually, but he didn't want it to end.

He didn't want to return to his own world

And if we look at Death like that, then he is probably one of the most relatable characters Dreamworks has ever make.

In the Shrek Franchise:

Monsters can be loved

Princesses don't have to fit the perfect standards of beauty

Handsome guys can be possesive jerks

Love at first sight doesn't work like one would think

Happily ever afters had to be built and not just obtain them with magic

And Death is the most creative and "full of life" being in the world

Because he would absolutely go crazy with his life/work if he wasn't.

Because in a world of Kings, Poets and Soldiers, he's the Supreme King

And he's also a perky goth but none of you are ready for that conversation.

So... that's your god of death?

I never thought I'd be a furry but here we are.

SPOILERS FOR PUSS IN BOOTS 2 : THE LAST WISH

Man oh man. Where do I start? The way he popped up out of nowhere unannounced, whistling a calming yet creepy tune, it already shows that he's someone/something that you shouldn't be fucking with.

HIS DESIGN is something you wouldn't seen in a normal kids movie. The black cloak, the pale white fur that makes him look like a ghost, the bloody red eyes that a predator would have, and the sickles/scythes that often represent grim reapers. TOP TIER AND BADASS

His character writing manages to bring fear not just to Puss, but to the audience as well. To the point everytime you hear his whistling, you just go "Oh shit he's here". Follows everywhere Puss goes, tells the audience that no matter where you go, he's always there as well.

He never intended to have Puss's head in the first place. He wanted him DEAD. He knows that Puss is on his 9th life, his last life. He isn't a bounty hunter acting as "Death". He isn't a deadly killer who takes people's lives like "Death".

Not metaphorically or poetically, He IS DEATH. In the flesh and soul.

"The legend will never die" "He gambles his life" "Puss in Boots laughs in the face of death". Puss mocks him and Death shows him that Puss is not some immortal being, that he is just like any other living things, vulnerable and weak. Manages to scar Puss physically, emotionally and mentally, that Puss starts to see him everywhere, having panic attacks.

His fights clearly shows that he's an experienced and skilled fighter, able to make the oh-so-Lengendary Puss in Boots loses his will to fight and leaves the place in fear.

You see how hard he swings those sickles?? He's in for the hunt, for kill. Like a predator gnawing on its prey.

Lastly, the voice. THE FUCKING VOICE. As someone who has a voice kink, why does a wolf have to sound SO HOT????? LIKE BRO- Brings chills to my spine and shi

Overall: This movie is amazing. W characters, W writing, W animation, W villains and W fights.

I hope we get to see Death more in the future movies, possibly in the upcoming Shrek movie. So we, Death simps can fawn over him again-

The size difference🙀

After doing extensive research for an OC x Canon ship, I’ve come to a height conclusion

Using puss as a canonical 2 feet tall height start, I looked for a scene where both him and the wolf is standing in a portrait mode no filter

I have concluded that Lobo/Death is around 8’04 feet tall when slightly hunched and 9 feet tall if not hunched a bit.

All this so I can draw a OC height reference

Death the Wolf and Love the Fox, First meeting ?

Headcanons

○ Love can transform into an anthropomorphic fox or a human with fox ears and tail. Love is usually seen in her human form, using it to disguise herself as way to help and guide mortals. Both her human form and fox form are described to be lovely and rather beautiful, to which she responds that everyone is beautiful.

○ Love has a lot of names, she is most often called Lisa in russian, Amar and Zorra in spanish. Because she is based off of the Russian Kuma Lisa, she often calls herself Lisa, Amar was an affectionate name given by Muerte.

○ Lisa met Death/Muerte a long time ago, in a little town where a tragedy had happen. A lot of loved ones died, so she was comforting the ones who lost them. She was in her human form, covering her ears using a hat and using her skirt to hide her tail. She heard his whistle one night and thought nothing of it, then she heard it the next night, and the night after that.

○ After the fifth night, she decided to see who was whistling, since everytime the tune is heard, she noticed more people die. So she followed the tune to try and see who it was and why they are doing it. However, she was only able to see a large shadowy figure.

○ It wasn't until a few days later, when she was working in a tavern as a barmaid in a different location. She turned around to get a bottle only to be startled when she saw a large hooded figure sitting on the stool. She was startled because she didn't even hear him arrive, which suprised her since she has extremely sharp hearing. Love noticed that the other patrons had become silent with the newcomer's presence. It wasn't long before they started to leave the tavern, leaving her alone with the stranger.

○ Muerte was rather curious about the fox who has lived longer than most without aging at all. At first he thought she cheated life or she had taken an immortality spell. Turns out, the ability was gifted to her without her consent. He wanted to see for himself if she wasn't wasting or taking advantage of her ability. He wasn't expecting anything spectacular out of her, maybe just her being shallow or something, but boy was he wrong. He did not know the mess he was getting himself into.

Or in which Muerte just wanted to check on an apparently immortal fox but found himself in the mess that is the journey of love.

Embracing Death

Death comes for everyone, no matter who they are or what they do, their life will come to an end. Death will come knocking at their door and collect them, whether they like it or not.

And it was true, Muerte did not discriminate who he takes. Rich or poor, human or animal, he collects their souls to the afterlife. He is the grim reaper, a force of nature who is neither good or evil. Muerte enjoyed what he does, especially when he collects the souls of sinners.

But he has seen tragedies too. Many times he has collected souls of the innocent, souls whose lives ended before their respective times. Muerte doesn't think of himself as soft, but taking the souls of children, young animals and creatures, it weighed heavily on him. He can't interfere with the living too much, otherwise he wouldn't be Death.

And Love noticed. She always did.

Normally, Muerte returned home with a satisfied smirk on his face. Pleased with himself for taking a soul who didn't value and appreciate their life.

But tonight she noticed his broad shoulders slumping with his head hung low, his expression blank. However, his crimson eyes showed his turmoil. He took off his hooded cloak and placed his sickles on the bedside table before sitting down on the bed, his ears flat against his head.

He was hunched over, his forearms resting on top of his thighs. He didn't even look up when she approached him, slowly moving to sit beside him, leaning her head on his arm.

They stayed like that for a few minutes, silence covering the room.

Muerte sighed deeply, "Lo siento mi amor. Ha sido un largo día."

She hummed in response, caressing his bicep.

"No need for apologies, moy dorogoy. What got you so down tonight?" She didn't want her beloved to keep all his negative feelings inside, otherwise it will leave him in a much more foul mood.

"....I had to collect four young souls today, mi amor. They were siblings, abandoned by their own parents." Muerte scoffed at that, those two don't deserve to be called parents for what they have done. So many people who want to have children but cannot, and yet those pedazo de mierda have the audacity to not value the lives of their own flesh and blood.

It makes his blood boil.

"That's terrible, they're terrible and I know you despise people like them, moya lyubov'. But think of it this way; the children are free from them and you brought them in a better place." She tried reasoning with him.

He stayed silent.

All she can do is stay by his side, until he feels better.

This wasn't the first time this happened and most definitely would not be the last. They don't need to talk, all they need was to be close together. Sometimes, Death needs a warm embrace, and Love happily gives it to him.
