Never steal from Micah Bell

Tilly came running into camp. She was full of panic. Eyes vide and out of breath. She started screaming that you had been kidnapped by a gang. They had been after all of you for some time. They managed to get their hands on you wanting to get info on where the Van der Linde gang was residing. Everyone dropped their stuff and came running to Tilly. Asking of everything she knew. Miss Grimshaw took her away to clean her up as the fellers started talking. Dutch, Hosea and Arthur was scrambling about to gather their stuff. They quickly turned around when they heard the sound of hoves racing away. They all stood frozen looking confused between each other as Micah raced away. He had never shown any interest or care to save anyone but himself. Micah rodes as fast as he could. Rage was fueling him. The reflection of the sunset was like flames in his eyes. There was no mercy to be shown. Nobody who steals from Micah Bell had a life ahead of them. His laugh erupted. He felt like he would go insane if anything happened to you. "Ain't no one stealin from me who gets to stay alive."
You were locked in a small shed. Left in the dark small room. They had roughed you up a bit trying to get you to speak. Your head hanging down as you focused on sounds outside. You had shot up as you heard an all too familiar laugh and yelling. Micah! The cold bastard actually cared enough about you to come and save you. "I'm going to burn this place to the ground! Time to meet with your maker boys!" His maniacal laughter came through as you heard glass breaking and shots fired. You could see the slight glow of fire from outside. There was screaming and gunshots all around.
Then suddenly, it fell silent. No talking. No footsteps. Only the crackling of fire growing. You feared the worst. Then, the door of the shed swung open. Your eyes widened, and relief filled you. There before you stood Micah. The glow and sparks from the fire wild behind him. The dark silhouette was disturbingly impressive. His eyes felt cold and dark. Blood was splattered across him. Luckily, it wasn't his own. You jolted up and ran towards him. You hugged yourself around his neck. He hugged back and patted you back. "You came for me, you cold bastard, you actually came." Micah let out a soft chuckle as you pulled apart. He looked at you with eyes that told more than his words. "Couldn't let them get away with stealing the only thing I care more for than my guns." You felt a tingling sensation go through you at his words. You hugged him tighter with your head under his chin. Smiling to yourself hearing those words. That evil asshole actually has some feelings beneath is vile exterior. Something he would never show to anyone else, especially not back at camp. He couldn't let them know he actually had a heart. He would never hear the end of it if they found out he was a human after all.
Micah grinned to himself feeling how close you held onto him. He held you just as thight back. Feeling relaxed knowing you where safe with him again. He slowly slid his hand down your back to place it on your butt. Softly squeezing. You felt a cribling inside. A warm feeling that was building. He placed a kiss on your head before he moved to kiss at your neck. He let out a hum of appreciation. Your breath got heavy as you closed your eyes. You could feel him grow harder against your stomach. He pulled away and placed a kiss on your forehead. A soft smirk visibleas he spoke. "C'mon, let's get you out of here, we'll finish this later doll."
He gave you a pat on your butt as he helped you up on his horse. Then suddenly you heard a stampede of hoves arriving. It was all the fellers from camp. Arriving just as you were about to leave this place. They saw you sat on top of Baylock like a trophy. All safe and content. Your cheeks stilled flushed red from Micah's actions. They looked at the burning camp behind you. Half the place was burned already, and things had begun falling down. Arthur looked angry at Micah. "What tha hell, Micah?! Was it really necessary to burn the place?" Micah led his horse towards them with a prideful saunter. His sleazy grin taking it's usual form. He leaned a bit back and put his hands out to his sides, exaggerating his words. "You're late to the show boys. Everything's dealt with, and I've saved our dear damsel in distress. But I didn't take you for a slow guy in a rescue Cowpoke, or should I say slowpoke instead?" Micah mocked Arthur as he passed by everyone. You couldn't help but find it funny. You tried your best to hide it so Arthur wouldn't get more upset than he already was.
Micah eventually hopped up behind you. Making sure you were sat close to him. You could feel his still hard member pressed up against your back. Making sure you could feel how much he craved you. As Baylock started trotting away and back home, he put a secure hand on your thigh. Stroking at your inner thigh. It made your warm tingle feel like a flame stared inside. Melting you closer to him. He needed to feel you to know you where there. That you where safe within his hand. He had a grin on his lips. With a rough but loving voice he spoke. "Let's get you home and taken care of princess."

It was a nice, warm day. Arthur was cleaning his horse while watching his eight-year-old son. Noah was playing with his older "brother", Jack. Kiddo liked to call man that because boys were spending a lot of time together. Arthur didn't mind it, John was like a brother to him and he was glad his son had a good company.
You walked out of a tent, stretching your back lazily. "Good morning, handsome," you placed a little kiss to Arthur's cheek, wrapping arms around his waist tightly. "As I see, Noah plays since he is up."
Arthur smiled and wrapped arm around you, putting brush away. "Good morning, sleepyhead," he said, kissing you softly. He nodded. "Yes, you know him. He likes to play, just like Jack," Artur sighed. "Hey, maybe we should take Noah and just ride somewhere? To rest a bit away from camp? For a day, or two?"
"It's an great idea, darling," you smiled brightly and waved hand at your son. "Noah, c'mere for a second!"
Boy was a bit confused when he came to you. "Yes, mommy?"
"Dad has something to tell you," you announced happily, looking at Arthur.
Arthur crouched to get on boy's level and smiled "We’re gonna go somewhere for maybe two days. We will go somewhere outside the camp. Just three of us... Well, five if we count the horses."
"And Jack?," boy asked sadly as he turned head to look at his mate. "He will be alone here?"
You chuckled softly and looked at your husband.
Arthur smiled and looked at you, then back at his son. "It's just a two days trip, son, we will be back soon. He'll be fine. You will be able to tell him everything when we will be back."
A concern was still visible at boy's face but soon it was all gone and he smiled at his father. "Okay, daddy. Can we ride horses then?! Can I ride a horse too?!"
Arthur rubbed his chin and shrugged. "Sure. I mean, mama will take her horse and you can ride with me if ya wanna."
"Yes, dad!," boy laughed hardly. "Can I take reins?!"
"No way, young man," you replied before Arthur. "You're too young for this."
Arthur stopped you. "Calm down, sweetheart." he said and smiled softly at Noah. "We will see what we can do about that. I mean, he can try I guess. I will be with him in the saddle," Arthur explained, looking at you.
You rolled your eyes. "Okay, let it be, but you gotta be careful, both of you, do you understand?," you asked in a serious voice.
Noah nodded quickly. "Yes, mom, I'm a big boy!"
"I am a big boy too, sweetheart!," Arthur added, ruffling boy's hair. "Okay, so take your mama to tent and help her pack some stuff. I will prepare horses."
Afternoon ride has started as soon as it got.
Your horse was walking slowly behind Arthur's stallion, you were watching beautiful nature surrounding you.
Noah was sitting in front of Arthur. He was holding reins tightly in his gloved hands.
They ride like this for few more minutes before Arthur offered reins to Noah. "Still wanna try?"
You glared at him with cocked brows, yet you remained silent, you didn't really want to start a fight, though you were oh so afraid of your little boy.
"Yes, papa!," Noah happily grabbed the rains in his tiny hands and moved them, making horse turn to its left.
"Wo-ho! Wait! Let me help ya," Arthur took Noah's hands and showed his how to lead the horse. "You see? Now he will walk straight," he smiled.
You couldn't help but giggle loudly.
Arthur's horse shook its head few times, neighing loudly.
"Dad! Dad! Look, horse is moving! It's moving!," Noah was oh so excited and he immediately turned around to look at you, but he did this too vigorously and he almost fell off horse's back.
Arthur wrapped his arm tight around Noah. "Bravo, but first of all, we stay in the saddle, okay? Keep reins just like I’ve shown you, okay?,” Arthur looked over his shoulder and shrugged. "You see? He gets it quickly."
"All I saw was that he almost fell out of the saddle," you chuckled, "But I see also, he gets it pretty quickly though," you nodded.
Boy shook his head. "Dad, leave! I'm big boy, I can handle!"
He looked back at Noah. "Okay, just remember what I told you," Arthur slowly moved his hands away from reins. Boy focused oh so much at keeping horse moving in a straight line. He leant down a bit, he almost forgot to breathe. His tongue was stacked out as he was having very serious face.
Arthur looked over his shoulder at you again and giggled, shaking his head.
After few minutes, Arthur looked around. You were on a nice, green glade with small lake. "Noah, stop the horse. We will set camp here," man said, patting boy's shoulder.
"Stop yourself, horse!," Noah stated firmly, patting horse's neck. But the animal was slowly going further. "I said stop!," boy repeated. When horse didn't obey his request, Noah turned to his father. "Dad, I think the horse is broken," boy shrugged.
Arthur did his best to not laugh but he failed, bursting with laughter. "You control horse with the reins," he explained and his gloved hands again took a hold of reins. He pulled gently and horse stopped. "You see?,” Arthur smiled at his son and then he looked at you. "What do you think about this place, darling?”
You nodded, still having your mouth covered with hand. "Sure, I like it," you stated simply as you got off the horse and walked to Arthur's stallion. You helped Noah get back on the ground.
As soon as his feet touched the ground, boy turned to the animal and patted its leg. "Good horse, we can be friends, too!"
"Yea, he sure was a good boy today,” Arthur took out a carrot out of his bag and fed the horse. After that, he started to set the camp. He prepared the tent and small bonfire. "All right! All set up."
After the late dinner, you were slowly getting ready to sleep.
Although your son had rather different idea. "Dad?," young boy walked to his father and climbed onto his lap. "I have a very, very serious question to you."
Arthur was sitting in front of bonfire, humming quiet song. "What is it, son?," Arthur asked taking off his hat and bag.
"Since I did very well at our first riding session," boy started, "I was considering a possibility of riding some more. Like now."
"Uhm... Well. I have nothing against it, I guess," Arthur muttered, stroking his cheek and chin. He shrugged gently, looking over at you. "But you also need to ask this beautiful lady there. She needs to agree, too."
Boy nodded and quickly got up from father's laps, only to join you near the tent. "Mommy, I have a very, very serious question to you."
You crouched next to Noah, tilting head slightly. "What is it, darling?"
"Dad said I can ride a horse now. So I came to tell you, I'll be riding it now. Can I?"
You chuckled and exhaled deeply. "Tomorrow, cowboy, it's time for you to go to bed finally, this day was full of adventures and you gotta rest a bit."
"Well, I think she’s right, pal. You should rest after your first lesson," Arthur said, walking up to both of you.
Boy wasn't too happy but finally agreed with his parents. Rest of the night was calm. Arthur slept peacefully cuddling you and Noah close. He simply was the happiest man alive.
Arthur got up first to ignite a fire and prepare some coffee for both of you and something to drink for Noah.
He smiled softly as he saw how Noah started to slowly wake up. "Good morning there, mister."
As boy was fully awaken, he came to his father. "Hi, dad, it's morning already, can I finally get on the horse?," he asked simply, grabbing his mug with tea. He drank it as fast as he could, keeping his eyes on his dad.
Arthur blinked and smiled. "You must be that stubborn after your mother," man took a coffee mug and walked to you, he kissed your cheek. "Good morning. Here is your coffee and I will go put that boy on a horse. Don't worry, I will be by his side.”
After these words he went back to Noah and picked him up. "Okay! Let's go."
As soon as boy was at horse's back, he grabbed its rains and moved them. "Go, go, let's go!," boy shouted few times but the only thing that followed his actions was horse raising its head up to look briefly at Arthur.
Arthur shook his head and tied a rope to halter so he still would have some control over the horse. "Noah? What did I tell you yesterday?," he looked at boy.
Boy scratched his head, humming. "Uhm, that I shall do this," boy moved reins, "And that horse will go. But it's not walking. I told you, he is broken inside."
"Nah, he ain't broken, boy. Try to gently nudge his sides with your feet but really gently," Arthur instructed. It was kinda amusing for him to watch it but he tried his best to teach his son.
Noah nodded and stacked his tongue out. He tried to follow his dad's order but he failed. "Daddy, daddy! My legs are too short, I can't!," two tears ran down boy's cheeks.
It ripped Arthur’s heart. "Don't cry, simply try again."
When Noah tried again, Arthur gently pulled on horse's robe so animal moved. He held the rope tightly in his hands. "Ah! You see? You did it!"
"IT'S WORKING, DAD! MOM! MOM, WAKE UP, SEE ME RIDING A HORSE! IT'S WORKING AGAIN!," boy shouted loudly, laughing happily. He forgot to keep the rains as he started to clap his hands.
"Noah, rains," Arthur reminded him, looking up at boy.
Noah caught the rains, giggling. "Sorry, daddy!"
Arthur smiled as he watched his little son.
They were doing this for almost an hour, until Noah started to complain how sitting in saddle was becoming uncomfortable.
Arthur helped his son get off of horse. "How as it?," he asked as he carried boy back to little camp.
"It was nice, dad. You shall feed our horse or it will pass away from hunger!," boy reminded his father.
As soon as he spotted you near the campfire, he ran to you and jumped straight into your arms. "Mom! Listen, mom, I was riding a horse for almost an hour! But dad has to change the saddle for more fluffy one, this one ain't comfortable!"
Arthur laughed as he walk to you. "When you will be older, you will get your own, big horse and I promise you, I will get you the most fluffy saddle I’ll be able to find," Arthur hugged both of you.

There were times I felt like the world was slowly disappearing in front of me. Or maybe it was just me who was fading away. Those moments... It didn't matter anyway. Because my empty burning lungs and my heart hitting my chest so hard I thought it will break my ribs and rip apart my skin were the only thing I could think about.
And the void. The black hole in my head, deep inside my soul, slowly swallowing all my hopes and dreams. That was the worst of those moments. The realization of the vacuum, the nothingness, the absurd of my existence.
Those times kept me awake at five a.m. and made me wonder: why am I living for anyway?
But deep inside I knew the answer. Everything was about to change. And there was another obstacle I was afraid of.
Life was good and everything was calm.
Arthur was busy outside the camp, killing and robbing were his bread and butter.
But there was always time to come back to place he used to call home. Return to this little, unusual family. Among these people was a woman that he had the honor to call his own.
Loving someone with a whole heart was something that was missing in his life for a long time.
And now he couldn't wait to simply take you in his arms again. He was finally riding home.
I heard familiar voice as soon as he got to the camp.
I sighed as I trembled inside. I got out of the tent and went to greet him.
"Y/N! My beautiful Y/N!," Arthur greeted me with an opened arms and smile on his face.
"You have no idea how much I missed ya. I am so glad to be back and I am glad you didn't decide to run away from me," Arthur joked, hugging me.
I smiled sadly, reaching to touch his face. "My love, you're finally back. I missed you oh so much," I said.
He took my hand and kissed it. "I hope you did. I am sorry it took so long. Lots of work but now I am yours,” Arthur said and suddenly picked me up. He noticed a little shift in my behavior. "Something's wrong, love,” he stated.
"Put me down," I asked politely. "Dutch was looking after you. And we gotta talk later."
Arthur blinked surprised and nodded, then he put me down really gently.
He let out a deep sigh looking in the direction of Dutch's tent. "Oh, sweetheart. He can wait a bit longer. I missed you and I see something's bothering you. Did Micah bother you when I was gone? I swear I’m gonna rip his head off if he put his filthy hands on my woman," Arthur growled the last part frowning.
I shook my head as slightly as possible. "Kinda. But that's not a case. He was just lurking around. Saying some mean things but you good know I don't care about him," I explained, stroking over his torso.
"I’m still gonna punch that bastard in the face. Just for even speaking to you," he muttered and walked past me to find Micah.
"Wait, there's something more important and this involves us, both of us...," I whispered.
Arthur stopped and looked at me. He turned around and grabbed my hand. "So I was right. Something is wrong...,” he sighed and took me straight to his tent.
Arthur made sure to close the tent's flaps, for more privacy. He sat me on the cot and then he took a seat on a chair right in front of me. "What is it Y/N? Did someone hurt ya when I was gone?"
"No... It's not that," I said, rubbing my temples as I exhaled deeply. I closed my eyes shut for a longer moment. "Listen, Arthur," I got up and turned around, facing him with my back, "Something's happened."
He blinked, watching me deeply confused. "Uhm... Okay, then what exactly happened, if no one hurt you... What is it?," Arthur also got up from his chair. Right now he didn't know what to think, he was scared and confused. "Are you dying or something?"
I turned around and walked closer to him. I hugged to him. "Think, handsome."
"Darlin’, you know that you picked a man that is dumb like a haystack," Arthur took my face in his big hands and forced me to look at him. "What is it, darlin’? You have no idea how worried and scared I am now."
"Sit down," I asked him and as he did, I took a seat at his lap.
Arthur wrapped an arm around me. "Will ya finally tell me? Or you want me to die on heart attack?"
I kissed his cheek.
"I love you so much. You're a good man. Very good man. And the kindest human being I've ever met. And soon, you'll have another one heart to love you."
Arthur laughed softly listening to all 'good man' stuff but after the last part, I could see the blank look on his face. "Uhm... What are you trying to tell me, Y/N? Wait," he looked away for a moment, thinking. "You are pregnant?"
I didn't reply his last question. I simply took his hand and put it to my slightly palpable baby bump, looking him deep in the eye.
Arthur blinked few times, he gently removed me from his laps. "Dutch wanted to see me," he said and simply left the tent. It's not that he wasn't happy, of course he was. I was his woman, he loved me and got exactly the same in return. I provided him with the feelings he hasn't experienced for a long time but after hearing the news, his mind filled with the worst memories and visions of the past. He simply needed some time.
I blinked, it was not what I expected. I knew everything about him. He was hurt oh so many times. I knew he needed time to proceed the news
For a few next days, Arthur wasn't talking with me too much. I could see him talking with John or Hosea but that was all, he even spent nights in front of the campfire.
After these few days, he finally walked up to me. "Y/N... Can we talk?"
I was brushing horse's mane when I heard his voice. "So you grew up to talk, huh?," I asked a little too bitterly.
Arthur frowned. "Y/N. It's not like this,” he rolled his eyes.
"Yeah. I know. So, what do you wanna talk about?"
Arthur took my hand and gently pulled me closer. "Listen, I want to apologize for my behavior. You know that I ain't a good man and you know my past too well but... I talked with Hosea and with John. Hell... I even talked with Abigail," he sighed heavily and hugged me."I am just an old, scared, fool but this fool loves you. I am so sorry I left you then and I wanna promise you that I will always protect both of you,” he declared and put a hand on my belly. "Even if I will have to die."
I smiled sadly.
"But you can't guarantee that you ain't be scared enough to leave at some point, huh?"
"Don't be silly now. I won't ever leave you, I love you... I love both of you too much to do anything like this," Arthur smiled and kissed me.
I smiled at him, he always knew what to say to calm my nerves oh so easily. I let him stroke my bump.
"Now," he picked me up gently. "Don't ya dare to do anything and I mean ANYTHING around the camp until this baby will be out of ya. Do you understand?," Arthur asked carrying me to our shared tent.
I giggled as ruffled his bangs. "Sure, cowboy. I'll let the dirt grow inside our tent and all around it. Admit that without my help you ain't gonna be able to keep a harmony."
"Nah! I will manage. I mean, it was all fine before I met you. So don't ya worry, besides, I am sure other girls will gladly help me," he giggled and kissed my cheek.
I couldn't believe his words so I punched his side with fist playfully. "Better stop it, old man, or I'll kick your sexy ass."
"Jealous, huh?," he laughed and kissed my lips. "I love only you and our baby. Nothing gonna change that, sweetheart."

The Last Encounter || Arthur Morgan x Reader (Reader POV)

Summary: You grieve deeply at the loss of your beloved Arthur but a chance encounter changes everything.
Warnings: none, just a little bit of sadness
Words: 3313
Author: Cass

You were free but it didn’t give you much. Gang was long time gone and you stayed all alone. No one needed your hunting skills, you didn’t have to collect money anymore and you got separated from all people you loved.
Most of time you spent on traveling from town to town or trying to earn some money here and there.
All people you once called family were dead, hiding or living their new lives somewhere. You loved the feeling of independence but at the same time you felt alone. Not to mention that you felt heartbroken.
When you heard about Arthur’s death you couldn’t believe these word, you thought it’s some kind of a sick joke… But unfortunately it wasn’t.
You never dared to visit his grave, you didn’t feel strong enough and didn’t know if you will ever be. Somehow you still believed it’s just a joke, every night you hoped he will just come to your camp or hotel room. Thing like this never happened.
You stopped your horse at the meadow. It was a nice, quiet place away from all those big cities and fancy people.
The life outside the city was easier to you, it was simple and that’s why you loved it.
You prepared your little camp and sighed sitting in front of a little campfire. You closed your eyes and immediately all the memories returned.
With eyes of your imagination you could see them - your whole family. Maybe it never was a perfect pack but you loved everyone in the camp. You opened your eyes and looked deep in the fire.
You wished to feel Arthur’s touch again, no matter if it would be his natural gently touch or wild one, a starved sexual touch he was often giving you in the privacy of your shared tent.
You were simply touch-starved at that point, you could have only imagined how he felt for most of his life.
You missed his voice and whispers. Didn’t matter if these would be his screams or whispers while making love, all you wanted was to hear him again.
Suddenly you hit the hard ground. “Fuck…” You hissed, sitting up. “Silly me..” You let out a sigh and sat back up, rubbing your arm.
You used to lean against Arthur while sitting in front of fire. This silly little habit still held upon you and you started to end up on the ground with realization that you were alone. There was no point in sitting awake too much. You quickly ate something, fed your horse and went to sleep.
Waking up in empty tent wasn’t always easy. You missed the additional warmth next to you and all those gently touches and kisses every morning.
You dragged yourself out of the tent and started to getting ready for upcoming day. “Maybe I should finally go there? I can’t… Run away from this.” You muttered to yourself, sitting in front of cracking campfire.
Your horse gently nudged your arm and you smiled sadly. You were right, you tried to ran away from this but there was no point in this anymore, it was time to face it. Arthur was gone and waiting for him to visit you in camp was pointless. He was dead and you had to finally understand this.
You drank your coffee and ate quick snack before collecting your stuff and mounted your horse. There was a long road ahead of you, so there was no time to waist.
Trip to the right took half of your day.
“At last he is where he wanted to.” You whispered and slowly dismounted your horse, then you approached the beautiful, lonely cross.
“Oh Arthur… I’m so sorry it took me so long. I think I was too scared to accept you are gone. Like forever gone.” You whispered, kneeling down on the ground.
Your hand gently touched the wooden cross, tracing letters with your fingers. You wanted to be strong, not to break again but this was stronger than you. “Why you had to do this?! Why… You were carrying whole gang on your shoulders and look where it had led you? Just… What with me? I am here. All alone. Without you, my love.”
You had no idea what got into you but you hugged the cross, maybe you had a silly hope to feel some of his heat but there was only cold wind.
You felt tears running down your cheeks, you clanged to the cross like your life depended on it but nothing changed. He didn’t come or you didn’t wake up from the bad dream, you were here in front of his grave and he was gone.
Grief and sorrow took over your life in a few minutes. You felt too weak to move, everything you felt was pain and loneliness. You wanted to get him back, you wanted to be able to touch him one more time, tell him how much you love him.
You spent many days in there, close to him with your stupid hopes and even more stupid dreams. Your back were resting against big rock wall, you were sitting and crying was all you were doing. Soon, you became unmindful to your own body, even when it started to wail you because of the weather, hunger or thirst. You didn’t move to eat, drink or find shelter from any weather changes.
Days and nights started to blend together, you couldn’t tell was it a day or a night and you didn’t really didn’t care anymore. All you cared about was this terrible scream of sorrow ripping your heart apart and destroying your mind.
Finally your body was too weak to keep you going. You simply collapsed on the ground and everything went black.
You woke up in completely different place, now you were surrounded by walls. Tucked nicely in a soft bed.
You were safe and warm. This would be perfect if you weren’t feeling like ran over by your own horse. Your head was spinning like thrown into tornado and your stomach hurt like hell but you still forced yourself to get up.Even if your legs were too weak to carry you, you didn’t give up. Using all your strength you dragged yourself to door.
Meanwhile John was sitting with others. “She should be glad, Charles found her. She would die out there, what was she even doin’ there? I thought she was dead or that she left the country long time ago.” Abigail said.
“Well, like you see she ain’t and I think she was there to say her goodbye but it was too much for her.” John shrugged and suddenly your soft whimper cut troughsilence.
You were still holding yourself on your feet by grabbing the doorframe as tightly as you could and honestly you were deeply surprised and happy to see John and rest of his family again after all those years. Everyone looked at you in shock because no one expected to see you back on your own legs so quickly.
“Christ, girl! Are you crazy?! You shouldn’t be up.” John muttered and walked up to you. You simply nodded and just then your legs gave up. John grabbed you and picked you up. “You are crazy. You should be resting but you never liked to listen, huh?” He said carrying you to the couch.
You only giggled softly and shook your head, your mouth felt too dry to talk. He set you down and looked at you, it was such a long time. “You are one lucky lady. Charles found you and brought you here, we were scared you will die.”
You let out a loud sight, you felt bad because you let your grief to take over you to the point it almost killed you.
“Here, this will help.” Abigail said softly offering you a glass water. “It’s nice to see you again, Y/N.”
You only nodded as your thank you and quickly drank the water. It was such a nice feeling to once again be surrounded by people that once you shared your life with.
You were taken care of, really nicely. John and Abigail gave you your own little place in their house, at last until you would get back in useful state again.
It took you around two weeks to get back to full health after your not so good adventure. You were highly grateful for their help, in return you were helping however you could. No matter what it was, cooking, cleaning, taking care of the animals or simply spending time with Jack by playing or reading books.
It was all nice but this didn’t calm the storm in your heart. One day you ran to John when you heard he is going into town. “John! Wait, I need you to get me something.” You said.
“What is it, Y/N? What can I get you?” He asked and smiled at you.
“I need you to get me a dress, a black one. You know, just plane black dress. Nothing fancy, I noted my size so you will be sure it fits.” You shrugged giving him little piece of paper.
“Uhm… Black dress? Why do you need it? I though Abigail give you few of her old ones.” He said slightly confused.
“I just need it please.” You said sadly. The truth was that you wanted to be mourning Arthur properly and you didn’t own any black dress.
John seemed to understand you. “Okay, I understand now. You got it, I will get it for you. Just, Y/N.” He put hand on your shoulder and rubbed it. “Don’t let it get over you just like last time, okay? We really don’t want to lose you and you are too young to join him now.” After these word John left to town.
You let out a deep sigh, you knew he was right but still you missed Arthur. You brushed off the thoughts and walked away to play with Jack or to help Abigail.
John returned at early evening, sun still was on the sky. You smiled sadly as he handed you packed dress. “Just like you asked, just be careful with your actions. Remember what I told you.”
You nodded and quickly disappeared in your room. Taking off your dress you looked at your own body. Some old scars, you got them long time ago while you still were running with the gang. Your hand moved along your skin in some random direction until it reached your neck. You notice something there.
“God… I forgot about this.” You giggled, touching a teeth mark. It reminded you about one silly situation. Once, during really heated sex, Arthur bit you hard enough to leave a permanent mark. You thought it was silly but also a little bit funny taking fact that Arthur was following you for almost two weeks and apologizing.
You tried to convince him that it’s okay, that you weren’t mad or anything but there was no use. Arthur still felt bad about if but one day some miracle happened and he accepted it, even started joking about it and that you were his, forever.
Oh yes, you were. You shook off the memories, you put the dress on and brushed your hair, humming softly. You grabbed your leather bag and quickly left house, shouting“I go take a walk! I will be back later!” before closing the door behind you.
The walk took a bit, you simply decided to go ahead until you found the perfect place to sit and rest and you did.
Even if it took an hour or longer, it was worth it. You found nice little field, close to the small forest and river. “This place will be perfect.” You said to yourself and went to sit near the river.
The place was simply perfect. Closing your eyes you started thinking about all the good things that happened in your life. You let your memories go ad your body relaxed.
All you could hear was a quiet and calming sound of a river and the soft touch of a wind caressing every part of your exposed skin which wasn’t that much to be honest. You enjoyed the feeling of your hair just being moved with every little blow.
You wished you weren’t here alone.
You sat like this in the ground, relaxing and enjoying the weather. Everything was calm and nice but suddenly you felt something sniffing your ear.
Your body went slightly stiff at the strange feeling, was it wolf that came to see if he can eat you or just a curious dog? What were you going to do, you were completely unarmed, you could fight with your hands but would it be useful against the wolf? Of course not!
You swallowed hardly and slowly turned around to see the beast preying on your life. But there was no wild, sharp-toothed animal trying to eat you alive. Instead, you saw a huge deer right in front of you and it was looking directly on you.
You let out a loud yelp and quickly tried to crawl away from wild animal but there was no use in this. With every inch you made, the deer was following you, still looking at you.
Soon, you stopped crawling and looked at animal. “What do you want? I don’t have anything good to eat with me, just go. Go away, please!” You whimpered terrified and covered your face with your hands.
The deer looked at you for a longer moment and soon lowered its head. You could feel its nose pushing your hands away, you let it happen.
Deer huffed loudly and nuzzled his head against yours. You blinked, frozen in place. Why was this happening? Why this animal was doing this? Were your dreaming? Maybe your fainted again and this was your dream? Were you hallucinating!?
After a moment animal moved away and looked at you once again. You bite your lips and decided to study animal carefully, maybe to figure out what it wants.
You tried your best, looking at every inch of the animal but nothing. Finally, your eyes stopped and deer’s eyes, they were nice and dark but... somehow you saw some shade of blue and maybe green there but there was one more thing. You saw a really familiar glimmer in those eyes, you have seen it before in one person’s eyes.
“Arthur...?” You asked even if it sounded like a silly thing to ask, it was a deer after all.
Right after your words deer let out a loud sigh that sounded even happy, he slowly lowered himself and laid on the ground.
You couldn’t believe it. Was it really him, maybe all those silly beliefs that you always heard about were real. You slowly sat on your knees and raised your hand to gently pet him.
He was visible happy with your movement because right away he nuzzled to your hand. “It must be you, oh Arthur.” You whispered and without thinking any longer just hugged to him.“I missed you... I missed you so much. How could you leave us just like that.” You whimpered, nuzzling to deer’s soft coat.
Deer let out a loud sigh and quiet sound, putting his head on your shoulder. He simply let you cry your sorrow out and as soon as you pulled away you were attacked with kisses. Could you even call it like this? He licked all over your face like you would be some salty treat until you started laugh, something that you thought will never happen again.
“What was that?!” You giggled, trying to wipe your face. Letting out a soft sigh, you sat next to the animal, deer put head on your lap.
“You have no idea what happened.” You whispered, petting his head gently.
You spent an hour or even longer telling him your story. The truth was you wanted to tell him everything but you felt like a fool when it came to the part where you almost killed yourself with your stupid behaviour but you didn’t spare him anything. You stayed honest with him. It all felt kind unreal. You were sitting on some field, petting a head of a huge deer that was resting on your lap and you were telling him the story of your life. It was obviously weird but somehow it brought you the comfort you missed for all those years, you were calm and you felt safe.
“…So yea, I ended up on John’s ranch. You would be proud of him, he have his own land with a house and everything. Abigail and Jack seems to be happy, It’s so nice there. I even got my own room.” You continued your story when deer raised his head and looked at your dress.“What... Something’s wrong with my dress?” You asked looking back at the animal.
Deer let out a quiet sound and started to nibble on your sleeve. “Hey, hey! Arthur! Stop, no you will destroy it.” This was the moment when it hit you, he had never seen you in black colour. You never dressed up in black colours, it just wasn’t your thing, plus you always tried to look beautiful and you never considered black as beautiful colour.
“Okay, I get it but just stop this.” You pushed deer’s head away and he muttered. “Listen, I know it looks weird but... I just had to honour you? I just wanted to to be in mourning. I mean, long time ago I heard that wives do this. I know we weren’t married but I just wanted to do this for you.”
Animal let out an loud, annoyed sound and started to pull on your sleeve strongly. “Arthur! Arthur! No! Stop it! I am sorry okay!” He didn’t liked it, you should have known this already, he would never like to see you mourning anyone. Not him especially.
You pushed his head away again, even if it was harder this time. “Okay! I get the message, I will take it as soon as I get home.” You promised and he calmed down immediately, putting his head back on your laps.
You let out a quiet sigh and started petting his head again, touching his ear or antlers from time to time.
You again felt like long time ago, when you simply sat with him in your tent, you would sit or read and he would be there with you probably scribbling something in his journal or just holding you. It was so relaxing that you didn’t even notice when the sun started to hide.
“It’s getting late… I should go before John will start to look for me again.”
Deer slowly got up and you followed his moved, rising back on your feet. Animal sniffed your hair and then nuzzled to your forehead. You did the same and smiled. “It was so good to see you again.” You whispered completely unaware of the tears running down your cheeks.
He looked at you and wiped tears with his muzzle, it was such a simple message and you understand it very well.
“I won’t be crying ever again.” After these words deer licked your face and you laughed loudly. “I love you too.”
And you let him go as much as it hurt you but you couldn’t just keep a deer, he was really free now. Just like he deserved to be. You watched him walk away until you weren’t able to see him anymore among the trees.
Letting out soft laugh you turned around and walked away.
After this pleasant meting you returned home completely changed, yes, your heart hurt because of the lose but you never let it get over you just like you did before.
You knew he was well and happy and you had to be, too.
