Been playing the DmC reboot lately, so here are Vergil and Dante as twitter quotes I vaguely remember. I haven't finished the game yet! (im on mission 10) so no spoilers please! <3

I've finished playing DmC: Devil May Cry, so if anyone wants headcannons for the reboot characters I'm officially taking requests for them now.💕

I also finished reboot, so how about headcanon about Dante (Vergil can be too ofc) with shy s/o? Thank you!!!

DmC brothers with a shy S/O:

How would the brothers treat an s/o who’s quieter in nature? ft. reboot! Dante and Vergil with a gender neutral s/o

Dante:

Oh boy. Have you seen him? He is loud.

It works though. His talkative, outgoing nature and your timid, reserved energy complement each other nicely. 

You’ll have to tell him if he’s getting too loud though.

He laughs the first time he hears you cuss. He didn’t know that was something quiet people could do.

Dante will order for you at restaurants if you aren’t comfortable doing it yourself. Sometimes he’ll do it just as second nature.

All in all, he loves your shyness. He thinks it’s cute and it tethers his boisterous personality so it’s a win-win.

Vergil:

He’s quiet as well, not necessarily shy, but he is nowhere near as brash as his twin.

He prefers the company of more reserved people. Finds them more interesting in general.

He’s one to not explicitly declare his love. He’s more likely to show you through little acts of affection.

You two spend quiet time together just basking in each other’s presence. 

He’s not introverted, but he’s also not overly outgoing. Vergil is confident and assertive in a stoic sort of way.

He embraces your shyness. When you do open up to him, he loves the conversations you two have.

Maybe reboot boys +Kat when their s/o get hurt during fighting demons or when demons attack, if you can? 😊

DmC trio with an injured S/O:

How would they react if their beloved was hurt in a demon attack? ft. reboot! Dante, Vergil, and Kat. (s/o can travel to limbo and back)

Dante:

Quickly makes sure you’re okay before jumping back in to fight.

Lots of swearing. He’s angry, he’s gonna swear.

After he’s done dealing with the last of the demons, he’ll find a rift to travel back to the real world as quickly as possible so he can get your wounds assessed and treated.

Surprisingly very doting. You lay down and he makes sure you don’t have to get up the rest of day. He’ll bring you food, water, a blanket, anything you need really.

You notice he’s tense. Dante understands that you’re strong, you’re more than capable of taking care of yourself, but you still shouldn’t have gotten hurt. It shouldn’t have come to this.

He’d been staring at you for the past 15 minutes, watching your chest rise and fall with each breath.

“If you keep biting your nails like that you’ll have four fingers.” you tell him, opening your eyes. Dante clicks his tongue and moves to sit up straight. He thought you were asleep this whole time. “I’ll be fine, Dante.” you sigh.

“I’ll take your word for it.” he replies, situating himself to lay next to you.

Vergil:

Finishes off the enemy with a quick swipe of the Yamato before checking on you.

Doesn’t speak, just picks you up and carries you all the way to a safe house. If you try to talk to him, he’ll remain silent.

Once you’re both at the safe house, he’ll probably chastise you. He’ll remind you that he is more than capable of taking on enemies. If you ever feel concerned for your safety, stand back. He’ll take care of it. There was no reason for you to get hurt.

“I’m sorry...” you respond meekly as he wraps your wound. Vergil pauses for a moment, reflecting on what he said. He didn’t mean for it to come off as overbearing or harsh, but by the sound of your voice you definitely took it that way.

“No. Don’t be. I’m glad you’re okay.” His gaze meets your eyes. His voice is soft, like he’s trying to coax an animal out of hiding. “I’m glad...” he repeats in a whisper, but the sentence dies on his lips.

Kat:

She’s helpless to watch, seeing as she can’t physically travel to limbo.

She can focus on what’s she’s best at though, making rifts. So long as she can get you back to the real world asap, she’ll feel at least a little bit better.

Once you’re back, she’s more worried than you. She’ll ask if you’re okay and where you got hurt. Try to calm her down and get to a safe house, there she can assess the extent of your wounds.

On the way she’ll ask if you’re okay a few times over, and try to make the journey as comfortable for you as possible. Hell, she’d probably carry you herself if she was stronger.

“Are you okay?” she asks for the umpteenth time. “Yes.” you respond, as always. There’s a pause that hangs heavy in the air. “You sure?” she confirms. You just chuckle. Her concern for you was cute.

Hearing your laugh makes her smile. It’s comforting to her that you feel well enough to laugh. It makes her relax slightly.

DmC Courtship

How would the twins act before confessing their love to their crush? ft. reboot Dante and Vergil. (I assume you meant love confession, I apologize if I interpreted your request wrong!)

[Dante’s bit is a lil spicy. Fair warning🌶]

Dante:

Depends how he met you and what your relationship is beforehand. 

It’s cannon that he ‘gets around’ a lot. So if you two didn’t meet from a one night stand chances are you two have had a friendly fuck sometime before you start dating. (If you are comfortable with it of course.)

It kinda plays with his emotions. He doesn’t know if he actually likes you or if you even like him. He’s never felt this strongly before and it confuses him.

He’s never been in a serious relationship. He’s had a few flings with other people (if you can even call that dating) and they only lasted a few months.

He’ll invite you over. His trailer is near the fair so that’s an easy cover.

Makes it his mission to win you one of those big stuffed animals at the game booths.

Afterwards, he’ll bring you back to his trailer. You two will just talk for a long time. 

Dante is softer and more playful with you now. It’s nice.

He’ll let you sleep in his bed and wear his shirt if you want to spend the night. Actually relieved that you wanted to stay. He enjoys your company.

Curls up next to you and buries his face in your neck to inhale your scent. It feels so comfortable. Maybe he’ll tell you how he feels in the morning, maybe he’ll back out. All he knows is that it feels so nice to bask in your warmth right now.

Vergil: 

Long, wistful glances in your direction.

He’s convinced himself that he can never be with you. His profession is too dangerous, there are lots of people who want to hurt him and he can’t bear to put that big of a target on your back.

Vergil is good at concealing his emotions, but every so often things will slip through.

He’ll often rest his hand on your shoulder when he’s near you. His touch will linger for a little too long.

When you’re talking, his gaze will shift from your eyes, to your lips, back to your eyes. He doesn’t realize what he’s doing, but you do.

You think he’s just teasing you, or being weird. Either way, it makes you wary of him.

If you have feelings for him, his actions are conflicting. On one hand, you love him and he treats you differently. You are special to him. On the other hand, you know that even if he does have feelings for you, he’ll most likely never act on them.

He’s explained that it’s dangerous just being employed for him. If you two were to be together, feelings would only get in the way. He has already dedicated his time to The Order and it’s cause and he doesn’t have room for another distraction.

He tries to let you down easy, but it still stings. Maybe some other time you both will be able to open up about your feelings.

Accidental Confession: DmC trio

How would they react if they confessed their feelings prematurely? ft. reboot Dante, Vergil and Kat (I did this one in the same format as my DMC5 accidental confessions, so there’s a section for both types of confession)

Dante:

If he confesses:

Aw fuck...

Realizes his mistake a few seconds too late. He can’t take it back now, no matter how much he wants to.

He didn’t mean to confess like this. He always thought it’d be in some large grandiose gesture. In reality, you two are just sitting on the roof of a building, overlooking Limbo on a quiet afternoon.

He doesn’t mind all that much though, it’s good to get these feelings off his chest. It’s nice. You two talk a while afterwards.

If you confess:

He’ll probably just laugh it off. He’s more embarrassed than you.

You’ll have a chance to just brush it off as a joke or forget it ever happened, he’ll believe you.

Maybe he doesn’t believe you so much as he just wants the whole ordeal to be forgotten about. He doesn’t know how to confront his own feelings, much less other people’s.

You’ll have to bring it up again later if you want him to take it seriously.

Vergil:

If he confesses:

Whoops lol that was embarrassing. *wipes your memory of ever meeting him*

jk jk but really he’d most likely tell you to disregard what he said. He doesn’t want to be a burden or hinder you with how he feels.

He’ll treat you differently afterwards. He’ll try to be more distant, but truth is he still loves you, deep down.

He thinks he’s good at burying his feelings but he’s not. You’ll have to be diligent to make him talk about it with you.

If you confess:

His stomach drops. This wasn’t supposed to happen.

He likes you, he thinks you’re interesting, but he doesn’t want you falling for him.

Blames himself in a strange way. Maybe he was too close to you, maybe he was too nice, too involved. You’ll have to explain to him that feelings aren’t something to feel ashamed of, they’re a natural part of life.

He’ll try to be better about dealing with feelings, but he’ll still feel uneasy.

Kat:

If she confesses:

Gets too ahead of herself and ends up letting her feelings slip. She’ll try to backtrack and make sure she didn’t make you uncomfortable.

Other than that, she’s alright with it. She roll with it. By no means is it a flawless confession of how she feels, but it works nonetheless.

She’s relieved to get these feelings off her chest. 

She’ll be more comfortable and excitable around you afterwards.

If you confess:

She’ll laugh. Thinks it’s cute when you stumble over your words.

You two can talk about it. She’ll be willing to talk, she’ll encourage it. It’s better to talk about your feelings so you both feel more comfortable afterwards.

Pretty much the only one of the trio who actually knows how to address and deal with feelings. The hardest part for her is trying to open up to people and getting to trust them.

Thoughts on Kat x Dante and Kat x Vergil

I'm suffering through major writers block recently so to try and push myself out of this I'm going to write down my thoughts and hope that they are semi-coherent.💀

I adore a good love triangle.

I see Kat/Vergil and Kat/Dante as two different ship dynamics

Kat/Vergil - right person, wrong time

Kat/Dante - soulmates (whether platonic or romantic)

I am more preferential to Kat/Dante only because we see him actually begin to care for her more than Vergil seems to over the course of the game (if you've seen my blog you know the amount of Kante propaganda I post💀)

The events of the game:

In the beginning of the game, straight off the bat, it's clear Vergil and Kat are very close or "tight" as Dante so eloquently observes😂 Kat and Vergil work as a team. Kat is indebted to Vergil because he helped her out of a tough childhood. Vergil is indebted to Kat because she acts as his right hand. Although, there aren't many scenes in the game where Kat and Vergil are in the same room (much less, hold a conversation together) but we can still assume they're a team and generally like each other. Kat's closer to Vergil than any other member of The Order. Nice, okay...

But then, through the events of the game Kat and Dante have more scenes together. They talk, they trauma bond, and even though at the beginning Dante was weary of trusting Vergil or Kat, he seems to slowly come out of his shell with Kat and trusts them both because of it.

But the siege of The Order's headquarters is really when we get to fully see the "flip":

up until this point, Vergil seemed closer to Kat than Dante was (and perhaps Kat liked Vergil more as well) but the scales have slowly been tipping, increments of weight being adding in Dante's favor.

And then Vergil leaves Kat in the server room😭

the thing most striking to me about this scene imo is that Kat just seems to accept her fate. She accepts that there's no way out for her and accepts her martyrdom for Vergil's cause because Vergil had so easily accepted it too... but Dante doesn't.

He stays with her. He tells her what to do and how to appear the least threatening to the feds. He assures her that he will be back for her even if no one else is.

He shows her a kindness, a thoughtfulness and it humanizes him in this scene.

Dante has to argue with Vergil to go back and save Kat. Dante changes their whole plan because he doesn't want to let this one human girl die. A far cry from the beginning of the game where he brushed them off and said he "preferred to work alone"...

After all this, even after Vergil reveals his plan to rule over the humans, Vergil still seems surprised (or regretful?) that Kat doesn't back him up, but now Kat knows that she can't support him anymore. Vergil is too far gone, too different from the man who saved her from her foster father.

I also just realized that we can see this somewhat mirrored in the framing of the cutscenes:

In most of her scenes with Vergil, Kat is pushed to the back. She's out of focus and otherwise not the main draw of the scene. In fact, it's very easy to overlook her in the shadows.

Whereas in most of her scenes with Dante, Kat takes up as much space on the screen as he does. She's harder to overlook now paired with that fact that she actually has lines in her scenes with Dante. (although this may just be confirmation bias given she has so many more scenes with Dante💀 I think it's a nice parallel)

Closing thoughts, I like both pairings although I feel that the game devs planed for Dante to be endgame. I still like the idea of a love triangle between the three; Dante and Kat close after Vergil's betrayal, Vergil and Kat as old friends turned sour (past crushes? the one who got away possibly?), and Dante and Vergil being brothers but also vying for Kat's attention (blood is thicker than water).
