A part of me really wants the next Gundam AU to have a fantasy setting.

The Reginlaze of Gjallarhorn, a knight-esque mobile suit standing in ceremonial position with a large sword.
The Gundam Barbatos Lupus, a Gundam frame with prominent horns and markings, giving it a mildly esoteric appearance.

Like, they’ve already made a bunch of designs that are just crying out for a fantasy aesthetic - Grazes and Reginlazes look like Knights, and I’ve always found the Barbatos Lupus to have a wizard vibe. I’m obviously biased in favour of Iron Blooded Orphans here, but Zeta and Reconguista in G both have a ton of units that look just as appropriate for a kings court as they do to a spaceship dock. Heck, we just had a series that focuses around the concept of Witches. It’s not like it’d be much of a leap either, between quantum brainwaves, newtypes and GUND-format machines present in other series.

But then another part of me’s just like “Yeah, but Aura Battler Dunbine and The Vision of Escaflowne haven’t gone anywhere, and they are very good fantasy mech settings.”

So I think what I really want is just for the military-industrial complex to be represented by WIZARDS.

The Many Colours of Saruman, by Harold Jig. A painting depicting the meeting between Gandalf the Grey and Saruman the White, in which Saruman reveals to Gandalf he has betrayed the Istari (Wizards) and intends to join with Sauron. Saruman (right) is depicted wearing a cloak of many colours to represent his shifted loyalty and magical prowess, while Gandalf (left) is still attempting to reach his former friend.
