After scanning the card, you made your way back through the evening crowd towards the table where your mark was, ID card palmed in your hand ready to subtly return, only to find two new men sat at the table with him. One is bald, dressed in a suit and tie and, most interestingly, wearing a pair of sunglasses despite the low lighting. The other man has his arm wrapped around your vacant chair, vibrant red hair tied back in a ponytail, his shirt unbuttoned low under his own suit jacket and a cruel smile as he saw you approached the table.
Turks.
“Hello, doll. This your date?” He nudges the man besides him, who looks flustered. “Did he tell you he’s married - two kids and a baby on the way?”
“Well, we were just having a friendly drink. No harm in that.” You shrug, trying to look casual despite your heart pounding.
“Didn’t look that way from where I was standing.” The red-head gets up from his seat and starts to circle you, letting out a low whistle of appreciation. “I can’t blame him, though. Why don’t we all sit down and have a little talk, hm?”
“Erm, that’s okay. I don’t want to upset anyone, I can just go-” But it’s too late as he grabs you by your arm and yanks you forward, pushing you down in the seat by your shoulders.
“Nonsense,” he leans over you, “we can be three adults having a drink.”
“There’s…” Your mark hiccups. “There’s four of us though, Reno.”
“Good counting, man.” Reno drawls, sarcastically. “You need to go.”
“But-”
“Help the man up, partner.”
Sunglasses gets to his feet then, hooking his hands under the mark’s arms and pulling him upright, wordlessly, and positioning him in the direction of the exit.
“Wait,” Reno calls, removing his hands from your shoulders at last and dropping down heavily in the chair besides you, knocking his knee against yours. “Don’t you have something of his to return, doll?”
“Sorry?”
Oh, shit. Shit.
“Don’t play dumb, sweetheart. Doesn’t suit you.” He grabs your hand and flips it, gasps mockingly as he slides the card out of your grasp and holds it aloft between his fingers. “Whatever could you want with this, huh?”
“Oh, that.” You fake a ditzy laugh. “I found it on the floor on the way back from the bathroom, though the photo looked familiar.”
“Tsk, tsk. Such filthy lies coming from such a pretty face.” He chides, grasping hold of your chin and shaking it from side to side.Â
