Robbie Ross - Tumblr Posts

When history looks back it won’t be at you! It’ll be at him and me!
Robbie Ross spent three months typing out all 50,000 words of De Profundis twice simply because Oscar Wilde asked him to. He spent months of his life laboring over a letter addressed to Bosie because he was so devoted to Oscar that he couldn’t bring himself to deny him anything.

This is probably the most chaotic episode of gay history
Dear Oscar,
Your choices are beyond my comprehension. Your choices are yours alone but because I chose you a long time ago, made my own commitment, I can’t help feeling they are a part of me too, whether I like it or not.
You are brilliant. I do not have to tell you that but god, you are.
Everybody else in the grand auditoriums is aware of your intellect. Some fear it. Some admire it. Some love it.
Personally, I don’t know where I stand.
I don’t care much for your talent, your success or, god forbid, your fame.
They could walk right out of the door, disappear into thin air, burn to ashes for all I care, but it wouldn’t change anything.
When I say you are brilliant, I don’t mean in your work.
No, what I am referencing is merely an edge of your character.
You are exceptionally kind.
You will endure almost anything for the people you care about.
You are a true element, one that never lies, one that dreams fearlessly, one that is never vulgar or pretentious.
You give back to the world that’s been so cruel to you.
You forgive them. You make them laugh. You make them happy.
It’s who you are. That’s how you shine.
Watching you from my front row seat and knowing well enough that my position is only the one of an observer, not a participant, you remind me of who I am and what I stand for.
It’s simply this: I stand for you.
I am your shadow.
Always been, always will be.
Sincerely yours,
Robbie
Everyone’s talking about David Tennant’s immortal-beings-with-bonds-with-their-vehicles typecasting, but Michael Sheen is over here cornering the market in portraying people who adore Oscar Wilde.
