Just watched x-men 97’s recent episodes and despite loving Gambit x Rogue I have an unpopular opinion……good for rogue for bagging a silver fox called Magneto who is incredibly powerful. You go girl.

God this is a romance I’ve been craving for a while. I need ao3 fic recs to add to my list ASAP.

Y'all I am losing my mind, I need to say it. Do you know how amazingly written this scene is??? Do you understand? Rogue removes the glove and instinctively (out of raw desire and need for connection) tries to touch Magneto's face but stops herself because it's the kind of intimacy that creates tension. She realizes she doesn't want to step into muddy waters, instead she waits for his hand. And he gladly and respectfully accepts it. And not only that, he understands it's an exchange of safe, grounded intimacy that is extended to him and he proceeds not only to take her hand in his, but also to place his other hand on top of hers. And then the voice over says 'to feel another soul finally seeing yours'. Because they do. They've seen each other at their best, and they've seen each other at their worst (when one has failed the other or when they have been too quick to pass judgment on each other). And that gesture reads to me as "I see you, and I want to believe in you. And this situation in which we are now, how we got here - absolutely sucks, but I am glad you are here."

And that's always been Rogue and Magneto in a nutshell for me. I am in tears about how well handled this moment was. And if the rest of the season will descend into drama, jealous love, conflicts and it will all burn to the ground so be it (hope it won't be the case) - but you will always find me here. in this moment.

I believe that Magneto from Age of Apocalypse is one of the best Marvel heroes, and these panels are solid evidence of that claim. In this part, Bishop confronts him and basically asks how he can just stand by while his X-Men are on different missions. And Magneto explains that he's saying goodbye to his son Charles. Let's remember, the X-Men's goal was, following Bishop's instructions, to restore the universe to the normal 616 canon and end the era of Apocalypse. This would mean their own universe would disappear, taking away both the bad and the good.

For Magneto, taking away the good meant his marriage to Rogue and his son Charles—neither of which existed in the 616 universe. So when the X-Men would fulfill their mission, Charles would cease to exist. But still, Magneto didn't hesitate for a moment and led the X-Men to restore the normal universe.

Magneto made the greatest sacrifice one can ask of someone: giving up love and family for the greater good.

I'm currently on my reread of Age Of Apocalypse and these panels still impact me as much as they did when I was a kid and read the story for the first time.

In this issue, the dreams that some of the members of the X-Men are having while sleeping are shown.

Rogue dreams of the return of Magneto (since at that time Joseph, the younger and amnesic clone of Magneto, was around) and of him asking for her hand in marriage.

But then, in the dream, Gambit interrupts the romantic moment and the two men start fighting for her.

This interaction always cracks me up.

Rogue: 'Ah would have said 14th century.'

Magneto (history nerd mode activated): 'Oh? Why would you-?'

As a mythology nerd, Magneto and Rogue's dynamic reminds me of the relationship between Mars and Venus, or Ares and Aphrodite if you prefer the Greek names.

Magneto, like Mars, is eternally entwined with conflict. His life has been an unending war, a relentless struggle for survival.

Rogue, on the other hand, is pure passion, like Venus. She is one of the most romantic and seductive characters in the Marvel Universe.

The relationship between Magneto and Rogue works for the same reasons as the one between Mars and Venus.

Ultimately, love is what brings an end to war. Rogue's love allows Magneto to lower his defenses, providing a respite from his perpetual battles. She sees him as more than just a warrior, and her love soothes his soul in eternal conflict.

I would love to draw fan art of this, but since I don't know how to draw, maybe I'll write a fan story in the future.
