I love the fact that people are fighting over which one of rory's bfs is the best for her yet we all collectively agree that lorelai belongs with no one else but luke.
Finally somebody said it
I’m actually pretty convinced ASP had planned these two couples as end game. Everyone agrees on Luke, but Dean? Jess was the bad boy fling. I know- “but they had so much in common!” Can the same be said for L&L? I don’t think so. And yet they’re seen as meant to be. So Jess reads a bit more than Dean. Fine. But even mature Jess- who I actually like is never going to want to watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or answer the pepperoni on the pizza. I think he and Rory would be great friends. As for Logan, he was Rory’s experience with the other have-it-all side and well, deep down, that’s not Rory.
People bitch about Dean being jealous, prone to using his fists, and holding Rory back and here’s my response to that:
Dean’s jealousy:
1. Tristan: he obviously had a thing for Rory and was a total jackass. Dean trusted Rory but not Tristan. I don’t care who you are- if you’re in Rory’s place and your boyfriend doesn’t care in the slightest bit that another guy is into you, I think you’d be looking for another boyfriend.
2. Jess: totally justified. Jealousy is only silly when there’s nothing to be jealous of.
Side note: people always bring up Rory’s “don’t be mad” to Dean. Upon rematch, she definitely only says that to him when she feels guilty about something. (Ex. Kissing Tristan, Jess coming over)
3. … Oh wait, there is no 3
Using his fists:
Um, what? There was one fight which was basically Dean finally snapping. Dean breaks up fights. Yes, he has a temper but that temper is usually teased out on purpose by jackasses like Tristan and Jess. And even then, most of the time he doesn’t even verbally fight back- just glares and hopes they get the message to cut it out.
Holding Rory back:
The most glaring example people use is the spat he and Rory had over her extra curricular activities. One- Rory was legitimately freaking out. Two- do people just forget the end of the episode? Rory’s ambition is one of the things Dean loves most about her. He’s the only boyfriend who didn’t want to make her into something else. But what about Donna Reed? ( I hear you cry ) Again, people seem to forget him saying at the end of the episode that although the dinner and everything was nice, he likes her just the way she is and hopes she realizes that he doesn’t expect her to change into the perfect housewife.
Bottom line- people I guess expected Dean to be perfect and when he has actually realistic human reactions to things suddenly he’s the WORST. Meanwhile, Jess and Logan get all the passes in the world because, I dunno, they’re more adept at verbal jabs and obscure references? I don’t get it.
But like I said above, I’m a firm believer in ASP wanting L&L and R&D for endgame. There’s a bunch of parallels between Luke and Dean. And well, concerning Dean, fate kept pushing him and Rory back together and I think that was done for a reason.
