every year on a special day, the princess of khaenriā€™ah would hold a grand ball to celebrate the founding of the nation and all of its people would attend despite knowing that the gods may decide to launch an attack. this year, everything went as planned. the princess announced the ball, and your childhood friend dainsleif asked you out to the ball. you had adored him ever since you could comprehend emotions and the joy you felt when he asked you out was immaculate. alas, that joy was only short-lived.

time was up. this was the wrath of the gods. khaenriā€™ah was disappearing, getting crumbled to nothing but ashes. the day of divine judgement had finally come. you could only hold your breath as you watched everything get reduced to soot. why did it have to be this year when everything finally started to look good for you? why couldnā€™t it be last year, or the next? you didnā€™t know, no one knew.

people were screaming and crying, embracing each other for the last time, running away from the falling ceiling. bodies were everywhere, and yet among the chaos that unveiled around you, a familiar yet endearing voice got your attention. you turned around as his soft, warm hands clasped around your cold, clammy ones.

ā€œy/n, why are you still here? didnā€™t I tell you to seek shelter?ā€

ā€œdainsleifā€¦w-where is the princess? Is she safe?ā€ you called out. he had returned. as soon as the sound of the first explosion resonated in your ears, dainsleif had left you to check on her highnessā€™s safety, being her twilight Sword.

ā€œi could not find her highness or any trace of her so i assume she had already got to safetyā€¦ y/n, will you have this last dance with me?ā€

it caught you off-guard. the weight of his fingertips felt feather-light against yours, asking your hand for the final dance both of you could share. the music was still playing in the background amidst the havoc. you and dainsleif both knew that this would be the final time you could see each other (him being immortal and all). you could see the regret in his eyes but you still swayed to the rumbling as if you hadnā€™t noticed. he did the same. those dazzling teal orbs never left yours as he elegantly avoided the falling pieces of ceiling and all while waltzing with you.

music you known too well accompanied the bittersweet dance. he smiles, and so do you. when you could no longer delay and run from death, and as the huge piece of quartz that started to crumble off the wall from the sides, the warmth of dainsleifā€™s breath touched against your ear. feeling something wet staining your shoulder and the pain that was slowly getting worse, you pulled him into the final and warm embrace, soothing his lonely cries. you wiped his tears away and caressed his face.

ā€œiā€™m sorry. iā€™m sorry i couldnā€™t spend more time with you. iā€™m sorry i couldnā€™t tell you how i felt sooner. iā€™m sorry for leaving you alone like this. i love you so much, dainsleifā€¦thank you.ā€

ā€œi love you too, y/n. i always will.ā€

oh how he longed to see you after those 500 years. everyday, he never fails sit by your gravestone to tell you what he has been up to. he knows that you are still with him, watching over him in the stars. as he makes his decision to join the abyss order, he looks at your portrait.

ā€œcome back..please..ā€
