Scars and Scales... and Feathers?!

(This a lil AU thing I have have had for a while. May make more, idk. Character used as the kelpie reader is my friend @ikari-shinsei‘s OC. Original story is Scars and Scales by @intistone, recommend you reading it will make you cry and the fluff will kill you and just, wholesome and traumatized kids, so yeah. Anyway, enjoy this lil shit of mine :))

'I am here, I am queer- what is happening here?'

Those were the first words Cameron, the kelpie who had pale skin, fluffy hair, brown eyes and a few freckles, heard when he woke up in the morning. He ran out of his room only to see his girlfriend Alanis looking at both siren kids, who are terrified as Hell might I say, of the new person, Moon growling and hissing while Sundrop is trying to hide himself. Meanwhile Alanis seemed to be having a crisis on her own, although silently. She was just... staring at the sirens.

She finally turns to Cameron and gives him a look of ‘What is this??’ and Cameron chuckles nervously.

“I can explain...” Cameron replied.

“Ya better cause I didn’t expect to come home to see two siren kids in a pillow fort. Cute but surprising.” Alanis said. “When-When did you find them?”

“Right when you left for your deliveries.” Cameron mumbled softly.

“Right after I left? Why does the interesting stuff always happens when I ain’t home?! Dang it.” Alanis huffed as she crossed her arms.

Despite being a grown woman, Alanis sometimes acted childish. Some find it weird, others endearing. Well, at least she wasn’t freaking out about the kids. Although knowing what she is, she doesn’t freak out over what is home but over the why and how.

“So, what are this kiddos’ names?” Alanis asked as she crouched to take a better look at the kids, wincing a bit when she sees their scars. “And where did you find them?”

“They didn’t really have names so I call them Sun and Moon.” Cameron said.

“Hmm, fitting.” Alanis said as she tilted her head at the kids, who tilted their heads like she did.

“I, uhh, well, technically Smokey, found them in a crate.” Cameron started explaining.

“A crate?” Alanis repeated, raising an eyebrow.

“Yeah, a wooden crate. They were inside and chained up with chains, cuffs and stuff.” Cameron said.

“I... see.” Alanis said while gritting her teeth, her eyes flashing white for a moment at the thoughts of the kids chained up and hurt.

The woman closed her eyes and hit her head softly before opening them again, eyes back to normal. She turned to Cameron.

“Has it been hard taking care of these two?” Alanis asked.

“A bit. They don’t really trust me but they are doing okay, I think. They have been eating at least but still gotta check on those wounds they have.” Cameron said before wincing.

“What?” Alanis asked, confused.

“I should have mentioned Moon is a biter.” Cameron said as he pointed at Alanis’ arm.

Alanis turned and saw Moon gnawing at her arm, and Alanis hadn’t really felt a thing until Cameron pointed it out. It didn’t really hurt honestly.

“Haha, ow. Okay then.” Alanis just chuckled at Moon’s actions. “Ya know, I met sirens like you kiddos, many times.”

Moon stopped gnawing at her arm and looked at her curiously. Sun did as well from the safety of their blanket fort, and so Alanis started telling some stories to them. Kids love stories anyways.

“Yeah, it feels just like yesterday when I met em! Real big, terrifying creatures, destroying the ships of those who entered their waters! It was only really to humans though, with other creatures they were real nice. I befriended some, years ago. I wonder how they are doing...” Alanis kept talking to the kids, she just loved talking.

Cameron just smiled at the sight, glad Alanis had taken everything well. Now it’s just to tell her why his arm is bandaged up. Hoo boy.

(Hope you enjoyed this lil story thing! I shall probably add more about Alanis and Cameron and their shenanigans with the kiddos! For now, good day/night/evening!)

S&S&F: Nightmares (1/3)

Sun couldn’t move, no matter how much he struggled. He was chained up, he was stuck, trapped in that bad place again... And his brother was nowhere to be found...

He couldn’t believe it...

He didn’t want to believe it...

The young siren looked to the side and he was horrified at the sight of a familiar, metal and sharp object in the hands of those... those MONSTERS!

He thrashed and struggled and sobbed, trying to break free and run away but it was no use...

The bad person with the object came closer and tears ran down his face.

Sun closed his eyes tight, waiting for the scalpel to pierce through his flesh and make him scream in agony...

...

He felt... nothing

Why is there no pain...?

The siren opens his eyes and is shocked to find himself no longer in the dark, scary and bad place he and his brother had been stuck in. Amazement filled his face as he was surrounded by a large meadow filled with different flowers, some being lillies, tulips, lavenders, sunflowers, and so much more! He looked to the side and found his brother next to him, looking just as amazed as he was.

The children hesitated for a moment before flopping in the grass with bright smiles on their faces. The sun, the real one, shining on their faces. No pain, no fear, nothing bad was in this beautiful meadow.

Just how they like it.

...

In the real world, the woman pulled her hand away from the little mers heads, walking back to her room, a headache beginning to form. She knows she shouldn’t keep doing it but she dislikes seeing the children scared. She doesn’t want them to be scared...

She stops in front of the mirror and stares at it. How long did she stare, she does not know. She scowls and glares at her reflection.

Her reflection smiled at her anger.

S&S&F: Nightmares (2/3)

Moon panted and choked back a sob as he felt the blood run down from his fresh wound. He gulped as he stared at the dark, merciless beast in front of him. Sun is nowhere to be found.

How did he get here...?

Why was he back here...?!

He thought they were safe! That they wouldn’t be back!

But now that dog, that BEAST, was staring at him with a glint of hunger and bloodlust...

The young siren hissed at the animal, trying his best to seem intimidating despite his great fear... The beast growled back at him as it started approaching once again...

The beast barked and barked as it came running towards him, teeth bared and ready to sink into his skin...

Moon shut his eyes closed, putting his arms over his face to protect himself and waited for the dog’s teeth to make him scream in agony...

...

The barking suddenly stopped.

There was no pain.

The little mer was confused as he opened his eyes. Moon gasped in shock and awe at the sight. A large meadow filled with different flowers, some being lillies, tulips, lavenders, sunflowers, and many more surrounded him. Moon looked to his left and saw Sun stare at the place in awe. On his right, he saw Smokey. He flinched a bit before Smokey licked his face and just looked at him with that dumb yet lovable expression of hers.

The children hesitated for a moment before flopping in the grass with bright smiles on their faces. The sun, the real one, shining on their faces as Smokey ran around, trying to eat the flowers. Yeah... they could get used to this.

...

“Why won’t you leave me be...?” The woman mumbled with a scowl as she stared at her smiling reflection.

The reflection said nothing, just kept smiling.

The woman started shaking in anger, wanting to break the mirror, to destroy that smile that kept haunting her. But she couldn’t. If she did, the sound of glass breaking would wake up the kids and Cameron. That’s the last thing she wanted.

“One day... One day I’ll be rid of you... I swear on my goddess...” The woman growled at her reflection before going back to her room.

S&S&F: Nightmares (3/3)

There was blood.

So much blood. And it was all because of her...

A spear was in her hands, impaled in the chest of one of those imps...

She wanted to cry, she wanted to scream, do anything but kill...

“Why... Why am I doing this... This isn’t my purpose...”

The angel attempted to take off her mask but whenever she tried, it felt as if she was trying to rip off her own face...

It hurt... so much...

The angel looked down and screamed in horror at the ground now being made of pure blood... Blood made from those she had murdered...

She feels herself sink into the sea of blood, accidentally breathing in the disgusting substance and it filling her lungs...

She tries to go back up, to use her wings to get out but she keeps sinking... and sinking...

When will this end?

...

The siren children slowly woke up, Sun opening his eyes before Moon and looking around the place. He was in the kelpie’s home. Right, he sometimes forgets he wasn’t in THAT place anymore. His sleep was... surprisingly nice. He usually had nightmares but lately, every time his nightmares were about to show the worst part, they just... vanished and were replaced with a more pleasant scenery. It happened with Moon as well. They didn’t understand why or how it happened but they were glad. They were okay.

The light colored siren yawned as he poked his head out of the blanket form. Weird, the kelpie should have been awake and checking up on them by now... Or even that strange lady that appeared days after the sirens were taken in by the kelpie.

Stirring was heard back in the blanket fort and the darker colored siren opened his eyes and looked at his brother, who still had his head poking out of their shelter. Moon hissed at him, a way to tell him to come back before the kelpie or the lady came. Sun looked at his brother and back out before going back inside the blanket form. The kids took their toys and started playing with them, not aware of the situation happening in the kelpie and the lady’s room.

“Ally, why do you keep doing this...? You’re getting hurt if you keep taking their nightmares...” The kelpie, Cameron, said as he sat in bed with his girlfriend. “Your own nightmares are already bad enough...”

“I know but I can’t just do nothing when I can clearly see the distress in their faces whenever they are sleeping. I can handle the nightmares, I don’t mind.” Alanis said as she smiled at Cameron, trying to reassure them.

It didn’t.

“I understand but...” Cameron looks down, holding Alanis’ hand with his talon. “Please, promise me you’ll be careful. I don’t wanna see you get hurt again.”

“I’ll try my best.” Alanis said with a grin before letting out a loud yawn. “Maybe you’re right though, the lack of sleep is being a bit of a pain.”

“I thought angels didn’t need sleep.” Cameron said.

“We don’t but I like sleeping. Well, when I ain’t getting nightmares of course.” Alanis joked. “Ya should go check on the kids. They’re probably awake by now.”

“You sure you don’t wanna check on them too? It would help them get used to having you around.” Cameron said, worried. “I mean, you don’t have to do any deliveries for now right?”

“Nah, not until Triple K or their parents call. After that last delivery, I almost broke a wing!” Alanis whined.

“What was the item this time anyway?” Cameron asked, curious.

“Pixie. Don’t worry, they weren’t caged up, just kept in a bubble so it didn’t accidentally injure itself.” Alanis explained. “There were a lot of beasts that wanted to eat it though.”

“Yikes!” Cameron exclaimed.

“Mmhmm. But everything turned out fine. Client got their pixie and I got the money so everything is good!” Alanis said as she flopped on the bed and Cameron stood up. “Maybe I’ll go flying later.”

“Heh, just don’t go flying to close to the sun!” Cameron joked as he walked out of the room.

“Hah! Like the sun can make this angel’s wings melt!” Alanis exclaimed with a sharp grin.

She giggled softly before turning her head and her smiled dropped. Alanis holds her throat gently, remembering the feeling of choking on the blood that she had breathed in. The woman gulped as she took a sheet, covering the mirror with it so she wouldn’t have to stare at the taunting grin of her reflection. She knows it won’t stay like that for long but... she is afraid. So very afraid.

Alanis sighs before turning away from the now covered mirror, now going to look for a way to distract herself and not remember the time she was not the protector but the attacker.

S&S&F: Invisible Shenanigans

(In Cameron and Alanis' home...)

(The Kids' POV)

Sun and Moon poked their heads out of their blanket fort and looked at the weird lady with the drawing on her back pacing around. Seemingly waiting for something. She looked outside very often to see if anything arrived. She did mention she was waiting for a package.

-Flashback-

'You sure you can handle the kids?' The kelpie asked, rather worried. 'Didn't you say you had a package coming in today?'

'Well, yes, but the client isn't in any rush so I can deliver it when you come back.' The lady explained. 'I promise everything will be fine, trust me! I have taken care of countless kids in the past!'

'If you say so. Just don't forget to be gentle with them.' The kelpie said.

'You have my word. Besides, being gentle is part of my being.' The lady said before pausing for a second. 'Well, was ORIGINALLY part of my being.'

The adults talked as the kids listened from the blanket fort. The kelpie was leaving? They would be left alone with the weird lady??

I mean, she wasn't bad, she didn't hurt them but she was still weird.

'They'll be just fine, trust me. I will never let anything happen to them.' The lady, Alanis was it, said.

'Alright. If anything happens, just call me.' The kelpie, Cameron, said.

-End of flashback-

It has been a few hours since the kelpie left and about an hour since the lady started pacing around the place, often checking her phone for something. It was kind of nerve wrecking.

'B-Brother, what do y-you think s-she is doing?' Sun asked, slightly curious.

'I don't know, but I don't trust her...' Moon growled softly as he glared at the lady.

Suddenly, the lady stopped pacing and pretty much darted out to the porch. The kids seemed a little confused until the lady came back with two weird shaped wooden things. They seemed like they had nothing and the lady seemed confused as well until she put her hand in the 'empty' space and went 'Unholy shiiiii-n digs, they invisible!'

The lady touched whatever was there and looked quite giddy as she did, a goofy grin on her face before a loud sound interrupted her. She took out her phone and hissed and grimaced slightly before leaving whatever she was holding on the couch and went out to answer the phone. Moon looked suspicious at whatever the lady had put on the couch. Sun, however, was curious.

Before Moon could say anything, Sun crawled out of the blanket and crawled up into the couch, struggling a bit as he did but was able to get up. Moon hissed in shock and indignation before crawling after his brother and getting up on the couch with much more ease.

'What are you doing?! You can't just run off like that! What if she saw you?!' Moon scolded, sclera black while irises were a red color.

'S-Sorry, I g-got curious! Y-You saw her f-face when she got the t-thing!' Sun said as he looked at the 'empty' wooden thing and touched the 'empty space, his talon sinking into something soft. 'I-It's like nothing is there but i-it is t-there! S-soft too!'

'What?' Moon was confused. How could seemingly nothing feel soft?

'Y-Yeah! Come o-on, touch it!' Sun encouraged.

Moon hesitated. While the kelpie and the lady were nice so far, he still didn't trust them. But Sun had touched it and it didn't hurt him...

The darker siren huffed before placing his talon on the 'empty' space, eyes widening when he felt something soft and fuzzy. It wasn't the couch, while it was soft, it was not this soft or fuzz.

'Weird...' Moon mumbled, taking his talon away while his brother kept touching the... whatever they were.

Kids being kids and with their curiosity, they decided to try and guess what the things were. They were soft and fuzzy, and were in those weird wooden things which they recalled the kelpie called them 'hangers'. They took the things off the hangers and messed with them a bit. They put the things on and noticed they were shirts, similar to the ones they usually wore but long enough to cover their bodies and have some weird hood things in the back. And it made them look as if they weren't there when they put them on!

'C-Can you s-see me brother??' Sun asked as he looked around for the other siren before bumping into him. 'S-Sorry!'

'Is fine! These are weird...' Moon mumbled as he and his brother played around wearing the things, constantly bumping into each other but still having fun.

Well, up until the lady came back. The kids froze up, being behind the couch and not in their usual place that was the blanket fort.

If the lady found out they touched the things, she would surely be mad...

'Invisibility cloaks for kids?? Who makes that stuff??' The lady talked to herself as she went to the couch where the 'cloaks' were supposed to be. 'I'll understand if it's cause of the texture, it's soft as hell- What the fudge?'

The lady touched the now real empty space and looked around and saw the blanket fort was empty.

'Fiddlesticks...' The lady mumbled. 'Uhh, kiddos? Where you at?'

The kids kept silent, nervous of her reaction if she found them after taking the stuff without permission.

'It's fine. They are still in the house I bet. I'll find them in no time.' The lady said to herself. 'How hard can it be to find two baby sirens wearing invisibility cloaks?'

-3 hours later-

Very hard apparently.

The lady was now laying on the floor having a crisis since she couldn't find the kids anywhere and she searched the entire house. Even the roof! Meanwhile, the kids watched everything ensue in amusement, Moon being the one who enjoyed seeing the older woman freaking out.

'Gods, Cameron is so gonna kill me if I can't find them...' The lady mumbled.

The kids did not see the face of terror in her face. The gaze of having passed through this exact same scenario with a much different reason and outcome.

Moon snickered while Sun smiled a bit, a tad nervous but still finding it funny.

'S-Should we s-stop hiding n-now?' Sun asked his brother.

'Sure.' Moon simply said.

Moon and Sun took off the cloaks and tried to crawl back to their blanket fort without alerting the lady. Unfortunately, the lady heard their movements and snapped her head towards their direction, making eye contact with the kids.

She didn't blink. Neither did they.

Sun became terrified while Moon hissed at the lady.

They were in so much trouble. She was probably so mad!

They didn't have time to run, let alone think when the lady got up from the ground and took the kids into her arms. Sun panicked and Moon growled and hissed when the lady hoisted them up in her arms. They knew it, she was mad! She was going to punish them!

...

Nothing is happening. Nothing hurts.

There is just... sobbing.

Moon looked at Sun but saw that he wasn't the one crying. Sure, he seemed frazzled but he didn't have any tears in his eyes or anything.

That is when they realized

It was the lady.

She was the one crying.

'Gods, you scared me half to death...' The lady chuckled as she kept sobbing. 'I thought you were just... gone for a moment there...'

Sun and Moon looked at each other as the lady embraced them a bit longer before letting them go. She looked away for a second, drying her tears before looking at the sirens again.

'Sorry for doing that, it was out of impulse... I was just, so worried, I couldn't find you at all for so long, I thought ya ran off or something!' The lady said as she laughed as if she hadn't cried literally a second ago. 'Gods, I freaked out so bad...'

The lady covered her face before just pushing her hair back. Moon could have sworn he saw a scar on her face for a second there...

'I am just glad you are all okay. You two seriously scared me! Please, don't do it again alright? Not unless you ask me first so this does not happen again okay?' The lady said.

Sun and Moon looked at each other before nodding, the darker siren a bit more hesitant.

'Alright, good good. You two go to your blanket fort. I gotta get the cloaks and then I'll make ya two dinner.' The lady said, Sun and Moon perking up at the idea of dinner, their reactions making the lady smile a bit.

The sirens went straight to their blanket fort after that. The lady taking the invisibility cloaks and putting them on the hangers again before going to make dinner.

The lady was weird, like the kelpie, but it was something else. The kids didn't know what.

But she was nice. They'll just appreciate she didn't get mad.

A little weird... but pretty nice.

((Magic shenanigans, enjoy-))
