Scott is NOT Derek's senpai. He is his kohai. Maybe y'all are doing it for the lulz, but it doesn't really work that way so it's not funny. Even if someone is hopelessly, unrequitedly infatuated with someone, it doesn't make that person their senpai. A senpai is someone older or more experienced. Derek is both older AND more experienced than Scott. He is Scott's senpai both in age and in experience as a werewolf. Maybe you're saying that since he's shown some ineptitude as an alpha, he's secretly viewing Scott as a senpai because he's better at leading his "pack" than Derek himself is. But... no. To me, Derek will always be Scott's senpai and Scott his kohai, because he shows the constant desire to protect and look out for Scott. So yeah. so one thing that’s been bugging me about 3x01 is that scott is obviously wearing a different shirt during the scene where he gets his tattoo to the one he was wearing throughout the day.
this is the shirt he’s wearing just before that scene, and you can see by the collar it’s the same one...

so like Scott’s been doing his True Alpha thing and he’s super stressed out and not very idealistic because hey life truly sucks and Derek notices and he’s like “hey Scott isn’t as annoyingly cute and he doesn’t smile like...
As tears rolled down my cheeks, I watched Derek and Cora leave, Scott's words lingering in my head. Is my ship irreversibly sinking? Is this really Scott and Derek's farewell? I don't think it is but more importantly, I think that this line is proof of how much Scott has grown to care for Derek. Scott can not only admit that he hopes Derek will return, but also has enough love for him to wish him happiness no matter how far he has to go to find it. That's real love. That having been said, I will cling to the hope that when the proverbial sh!t hits the fan with Peter coming after Scott next season, Derek will return and be there to help him. I can't imagine the show without him.
He was only kidding about them mating to see who was the real Alpha.
