In The Dimly Lit Corners Of Our Hearts, We Gather Here Today, Each Of Us Nursing A Profound Sense Of

In the dimly lit corners of our hearts, we gather here today, each of us nursing a profound sense of sorrow, akin to a person seeking solace in a tub of ice cream, tears streaming down their face, hidden away in the solitude of a closet, their only comfort the innocent joy of kitty cat pictures.

We are here to honor the life and legacy of a remarkable woman, Janice Burgess. Born on a cold winter’s day, March 1, 1952, in the lively neighborhood of Squirrel Hill, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Janice embarked on a journey that would leave an indelible mark on the world of children’s television.

Her journey was not unlike the ascent of a mountain, starting at the base with humble beginnings at a local TV station, WQED, and reaching the summit at Nickelodeon. Her path was steep and challenging, but her determination and talent were her climbing gear, propelling her upwards.

Janice’s most notable contribution to children’s television was the creation of The Backyardigans, a show that has touched the hearts of countless children, including many of us here today. The Backyardigans was more than just a show; it was a testament to Janice’s belief in the power of imagination and the importance of friendship. Each episode was a new adventure, a new lesson, and a new opportunity to learn and grow.

On March 2, 2024, Janice Burgess passed away, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and entertain future generations. Her life was a testament to the power of creativity, perseverance, and the belief in the potential of every child’s imagination.

As we remember Janice today, our hearts are heavy with grief, yet filled with gratitude. A song, “Thank You,” beautifully encapsulates our feelings towards her. To Janice, we say: “Thank you for the way… you brightened up our day with the lovely stories you told. Very nicely, we should say! Thanks for flying in… and making us grin! 'Cause it got us out… of the rut that we… were… in. Thank you. We just want to say ‘thank you!’ It’s neat how you’re so sweet, so we want to say ‘thank you.’”

Janice Burgess, your work has not only entertained us but also shaped us into the people we are today. Your stories have taught us the value of friendship, the joy of adventure, and the power of imagination. For that, we say, “Thank you.”

May your soul rest in peace, and may your legacy continue to inspire and bring joy to children around the world. Thank you, Janice Burgess. You will be dearly missed, but your spirit will live on in the hearts of those you’ve touched, like the faint echo of a beloved song, or the lingering sweetness of a cherished memory.
