we know that Nicky and Joe are soulmates, right? They kill each other and become inmortal, soulmate behavior, right? And of course they will loose their immortality together, my sanity depends on that.

But hear me out, all those things are related to death in some way, so here comes my sleep deprived mind, they were born the same day.

Yes, I know that Joe is three years older, but I'm not talking about about years, I'm talking about days. (and maybe stars)

The poetic way to say this: "The starts were in the same position when they were born, just three years apart."

And maybe this idiots talk about their birthdays but because the calendar difference (may content errors, don't think too much into this.) and because the bigger problem was not being able to die, they just thought nothing of it, and never celebrate their birthday in general, whatever reason suits you best.

Until, Nile ask for the day they were born, and they answer with their respective calendar system, she does some mathematics and, guess what? same day.

Except in the comic book it was Andy that said no to finding Nile and Nicky, Joe AND Booker were trying to convince her they needed to find her. I do love the differences between the comic and the movie, but this is one thing I wish they didn't change.

I do understand that he probably said no because he didn't want to drag Nile into the mess he created, but if they left it in, it still would've spoken about how much he cares for his immortal family. We know he loves them. He just had a shit way of showing it.

Something I’d like to point out about this whole exchange amongst the team is how Joe and Nicky approach expressing the same opinion regarding Nile. They are both united in their stance that finding her is the thing they need to do, but their responses to pushback (from Booker essentially) are very distinctive.

Joe is the first to outright say they have to find Nile. He’s direct, firm, and concise. And his tone in the second gif is bordering on anger at the implication that they leave one of their own vulnerable. He’s protective and determined, and after this point continues sketching out Nile’s face, undeterred.

Nicky also calls Booker out, but focuses on appealing to the team’s empathy. You can see that not only did he feel the pain of Nile’s death, he also keenly sympathizes with her fear and it comes through in his voice and all across his face. He’s gentle but steady when reminding them of what they already know they should do.

They’re both ultimately saying the same things, but in their own characteristic, complimentary ways. And I know a lot is said about Nicky’s compassion (and rightfully so), but I also wanted to highlight that Joe is just as compassionate (in this example, towards Nile’s situation), it just manifests differently.

I'm gonna barge in wayyyy late to this and offer a lil in-universe explanation for the result of rucka having apparently decided that google is for chumps

So the main thing is that the odds are pretty high that Booker's parents (and even Booker in his youth) were illiterate. They also might not have even spoken French at all because this was pre-revolution and France didn't really stamp out regional languages until even the 20th century in some places. Based on that, "Le Livre" could be a failed attempt at spelling something else. If that's an explanation that floats your boat, I'd put forward that their last name could've been something like "Lelievre" which is actually a pretty common name these days and translates to "the hare" which could be fun, imagery-wise. The other thing is that he might have had a totally separate legal name and now uses Le Livre as a common use name, which is a stretch but this is the guy who hangs out with "Joe Jones" and "Nicky Smith" so who knows if he did it on a dare or legit thought that it was a normal name

Anyway, fortunately for Greg, I guess, France then was not all that much like France now, so there's plenty of wiggle room for imagining the ways that Booker ended up with a very dumb surname in-universe.

hey french people

is “le Livre” actually a plausible surname or is like an appellation, like he’s a nerd so ppl call him “Sébastien the Book”

I love booker. I'll never understand why people hate him so much.

the thing about booker that drives me crazy is that he's suicidal and yet he's unable to die. he wants nothing more than to stop living, because he can't handle it anymore. the scene in copley's office where andy asks him why he betrayed them and he says he hopes the scientists will find a way to end it. the love was there and it wasn't enough to stop the grief. insane character motivation.
