There is a One Piece panel in recent memory that was so shocking that I'm still reeling at the implications of it.
This one:
I cannot fully express or explain how much the image of "Vegapunk, Kuma, Bonney, Kizaru, and Sentomaru doing the Nika dance" shook me to my very core. Specifically Borsolino doing it. Prior to that very chapter, Borsolino had gotten a lot of supposed development in the Egghead arc, but it was hard to tell whether he was being serious or sarcastic.
But then Luffy hit him with the Star Gun and he still maintained the same expression, even while on the ground down for the count by his own admission, and I realized he was totally serious the whole time. He just has an "unbreakable chillax face".
Chapter 1,100 made me realize that Kizaru genuinely thinks of Vegapunk and Sentomaru as found family, and Kuma and Bonney as dear friends, and nothing hurt him more than being assigned to this mission. Everything he's been saying the whole time about not wanting to do this was true and from the heart.
And then we saw him do the Nika dance, and I'm still processing it. The implications of a Marine Admiral doing the dance of Sun God Nika, Warrior of Liberation are truly staggering to me. Even if he doesn't know the full details, even if Kuma didn't tell him, doing the Nika dance feels like a sign that you've got the Nika spirit.
We met Kizaru on Sabaody Archipelago hunting down the Straw Hats as punishment for punching a Celestial Dragon in a slave auction house. Slaves. The Admiral who did the Nika dance defended a World Noble's right to own slaves. Hell, in this arc, he FOUGHT Luffy in Gear 5!
I truly don't know what to expect from Kizaru going forward, but this arc has fully taken him from my least favorite Admiral (I just found him kinda boring), to my favorite (barely surpassing Kuzan).
