summary: (something about vernon being a soft klutz just got me) while you two had plans to hang, your work had other plans [sorry idk what to say but this is a self-indulgent fic] word count: 530 words
from the corner of his eyes, vernon had already seen you peek through the doors of his room multiple times (read: 5 times). mildly amused and exasperated, he wanted to call out for you, maybe pull you in his lap and ask why you were tip-toeing around him.
but he decided to wait it out.
he knew you’d come to him eventually.
surely enough after much pacing outside his room, you finally knocked on the door and vernon’s heart soared.
“can i come in?” you beamed sheepishly, hands clutching the door frame as you stood by the door.
“yeah. come here.” vernon pats the empty space on his lap, eliciting an eye-roll from you. dummy.
better that you smiled than frowned, he silently admires how beautiful you seemed with a smile on your face. you made your way across the room and opted to stand before him. reaching out, you lightly cupped his face in your hands and he leaned into your touch.
“what did you want to talk about?” he blurted out, unable to contain his curiosity. your eyes widened a fraction, and the hands warming his face dropped to your sides.
“you know about my upcoming day off on wednesday?” vernon nodded his head.
he actually had a surprise planned for you, under the disguise that you two were going out to eat, but he was gonna act like the restaurant canceled his order, and he was gonna bring you to picnic at this really nice park and—
“i can’t.” if his thoughts were a car, it would have come to a screeching halt, smoke and all. vernon cocked his head to the side, refocusing his attention back to you. “you can’t…?”
“like, i can’t have that day off. i know, it’s really sudden.”
“so that’s why you were pacing outside my room for a good 30 minutes?” vernon wanted to laugh at how cute you were.
if anything, vernon didn't mind at all. worry and stress marred your face and he laced his hands in yours. the pout on your face said otherwise and you ran your hands through your hair.
“i’m trying to negotiate for a half day on wednesday, but we’re still discussing what can be done. earliest i can have is friday, if not next monday to compensate for that day off. nothing has been confirmed but trust me, i’m fighting for that day off because i earned it. we…”
“hey. hey, look at me.”
vernon was surprised to see the frustration in your eyes, immediately getting out of his seat to wrap you in a hug. holding you tightly, he whispered, “you’re so lovely. i really appreciate the lengths you went to get that day off for us to spend.”
“i know this can’t be helped and i was really looking forward to spending more time with you so i’m bummed.” you let out a soft sigh, your arms pulling vernon closer to you. “thank you for telling me anyway, really. a minor setback isn’t going to break us. you know you can always come to me if anything, yeah?”
“yeah. i love you.”
“and me too, i love you just as much.”

summary: a hug and a kiss is all he needs to be comforted. and a promise to let him do all the manly things from now on.

a/n: lowkey personal experience because im a girl's girl, im always telling them to leave it to me, and i just forget men naturally just have more strength-
a/n again: i thought today (20th) was the 21st...and i was rushing through it...nevermind...
vernon didn't even register he was frowning until you let go of his hands, choosing to worriedly wring them behind your back.
"i...is it because of what happened earlier...?" vernon glances at you, his gaze already telling you the answer to your question. you averted his stare, hands coming up to rub your face sheepishly.
to say that he was upset was an exaggeration, but to say that he wasn't hurt was an understatement. vernon pauses mid-walk, standing before you, and his thoughts came spiling out in a mumbled mess, "i know you are absolutely able to do all these things yourself, so would it kill you to let me do these romantic things for you?"

vernon perks up at the sight of your untied shoelaces, catching your attention.
"oh! shoelaces!"
he was preparing to get down on one knee to sweetly tie it up for you, but you leaned against him, bringing your left foot up to lace it into a double knot. you smiled at him, "thanks for pointing it out. let's go!" you walked ahead, with him trailing behind you like a defeated little puppy. he stares dejectedly at the missed opportunity to be chivalric.
"i was gonna do it for you..." he lightly grumbled under his breath.

vernon watches carefully, as you scrolled through the combined shopping list. he rests his weight against the cart as you put items into it. “is that a discount?” you pointed to the big neon yellow sign on the highest row and his eyes light up, matching your equally excited expression. “shall we get that?”
vernon detaches himself from the cart’s handle, about to reach up to grab that bag of snacks only for you to tiptoe and with fumbling fingers you nudged the box so that it falls directly into the cart. you nearly lost your balance but he swiftly stretches out his hand to support you. vernon internally groans, another missed opportunity.

he spins around, sulking. he couldn't help it: he isn't mad at you, just disappointed that you maybe hadn't trust him enough to let your guard down around him. or much less let him do things for you.
you didn't even let him hold the grocery bags when you were struggling, saying that you could hold it and it was a "piece of cake".
he hears you put the bags of groceries down and you hugged from behind. "a hug."
you nudged him to face you and you tip-toed, pressing a kiss to his face, "and a kiss.”
you cupped his face in your hands, effectively trapping him. his eyes were focused on your features, on the way you were so incredibly close to him. he felt his cheeks heating up: he really couldn't stay mad at you for long.
closing your arms around his frame, you softly whispered, "i didn't forget. you told me before, if you were upset, i should hold you because you are someone who needs my comfort too."
his throat closes up at your heartfelt words. he finally embraces you, his chin resting atop of your head. you pat his back, as a form of apology.
“i want to do all these things because i love you. i know you can do them, but now that i’m here, would you rely on me? i'm your boyfriend after all."
vernon grabs the grocery bags from the ground, smiling when your face turns a light pink.
"mhm. my lover."

the sister-havers are understandable: they have sisters for siblings so they would know a thing or two (before you jump at me, yes i do know vernon and seungkwan have sisters so hear me out); and whereas for minghao? i'm so sure my man is born a fashionista so makeup would be easy for him; and for seungcheol i think that clip of him explaining the different perfumes/ cologne is enough for me to put him here
you don't have to tell them: they would be able to pick a similar or the exact shade right off the bat just by looking at your lips; call it unexplained hidden knack or that special eye for choosing makeup products
purposely (sneakily) grabs you by the chin to kiss you full on the lips just to see how good the product works; love love loves to watch you put on makeup and would gaze at you as you went about your business
bonus if they know color theory, or suggest different shades they think might look good on you (and i'm certain it will)
"you like it?" you swiped a sheen layer of gloss on your lips, before turning to your smitten boyfriend for approval. he does a once over, smile widening at the sight of you. he pulls you in by the waist lovingly, "i like that very much. now, give me a kiss!"
"no! you're gonna ruin it!" he rolls his eyes, "i'll buy you another." he knows you couldn't resist, so before you open your mouth to retort, he yanks you towards him and captures your lips. "i'll buy you as many as you want, so long you keep letting me do this."

i know vernon has a younger sister and kwanie has sisters, but hear me out: i don't think they are that interested in makeup products at all hence they are here; for joshua because he is such a gentleman he would take pictures of your lipsticks to know which ones to get, similar for hosh and wooz i think they would make sure you're physically with them so they don't get the wrong ones
because they aren't sure of the exact type/ shade/ tint, he would make the effort to know your favorite brands and colors at least so that he could go get them when he goes out shopping for your gifts <3 !! he wants to surprise you too, and might throw in other skincare products they are more confident in getting
call it algorithm influencing, but he sometimes sees the targeted ads on your phone and makes a mental note to ask you about it
very much prefers you in your natural state, but loves it when you doll up for them/ yourself because you are beautiful in their eyes (have you seen them barefaced wts!!)
"you like this one?" he leans over, his taller frame standing out painfully in the makeup section. you nod your head, "yeah? looks good doesn't it?" you swatch another color on the back of his hands and he observes closely, "this one has sparkles in it, but it's a lot more lighter than the other other one."
"i can't decide which one to get though." you frowned the back of his hands are littered with various shades, matching yours. he shakes his head, sporting a silly grin, "it's okay! we can browse longer. let's get something you really like."

dedicated to the brother-havers and single children: i feel that these bunch of people are the group of people who don't know much about makeup and are perhaps less interested in it as you are; might even be clueless about it
they seem like the type to ask many questions about why some products are matte or glossy or why are they so liquid-y or why has there got to be many shades (in the sweetest and non-annoying way)
very green forest behavior when they know not to mess with your makeup products and to keep them stored away neatly
call it algorithm influencing, but when he spots some makeup brand promoting items, he'd come and ask for your opinion (so that he could take you out and buy it for you uwu)
unexpectedly i think somewhat related to makeup, wonwoo or dino feels like the type to enjoy doing facials with you
"i'm not sure if you like this, but i overheard you telling your friends you were running out. thought this might make your day." his heart was beating out of his chest, but he plays it cool by gifting you a small bag. you excitedly take it from him, and he relishes in the way your eyes practically light up. looks like he bought the right one.
"oh baby, thank you!" you hug him tight and he reciprocates the gesture, an affectionate beam all over his face. "it's the one i told you about! no way! you got it!" he exhales dramatically, "anything for you my love."

∅HOT THINGS CHWE VERNON WOULD DO
CHWE VERNONloves his sound-cancelling headsets but with you, he always carries his earplugs and shares one of them, telling you this song reminds him of you or he thinks you’ll like this one but he always seems to lean in a little too close even though you can hear him just fine from the distance of his beside you.
CHWE VERNON always remembers the things you’ve mentioned in passing. sometimes he brings you food you mentioned you were craving, takes you places you said you always wanted to visit and not doing stuff you’ve said you didn’t like even if it wasn’t him you were talking about and he thinks you don’t notice and always says he felt like it.
CHWE VERNON holds your hands and shoves them into his jacket’s pockets. it destroys your heart when he does that out of nowhere and he is always nonchalant but because of your proximity you hear his heart beating too fast and the pulse of his hand in yours also in a race, it’s hot how his cheeks are red even though he is the one doing this to himself.
CHWE VERNON sends good morning voicemails even if it’s way past the time you’d have woken up as soon as he is up. his voice always makes you weak in the knees and he definitely doesn’t know the real effect it has on you, in turn, you always send good night voicemails as revenge because he always sends an array of texts after the mail.
CHWE VERNON says he doesn’t like cuddles but always falls asleep on you when his arms are around you on the bed and when he wakes up because you moved, his arms on both your sides and a confused “huh?” escapes his voice when he realizes he fell asleep on you again, flushing at your teasing smile before snuggling into with excuses spilling from him.
