summary: joshua is a gentleman, especially so in the mornings [this is a self-indulgent fic]

a/n: i think first and foremost, i relate to this so much (i got scolded a lot as a kid because i was “rude” for not greeting the elders when i actually just find it hard to use my voice in the mornings,, so i decided to write this featuring my all time bias)

“good morning~” joshua greeted, gentle as ever. he watched as you perched yourself on one of the seats by the dining table, sleep still in your system.

smiling, he lightly rubbed your back as you stifled a yawn. joshua knew how he needs to go a bit slower in the morning, especially since you were pretty much non-verbal. he still remembered the first few times waking up with you, you were practically hovering around, not uttering a word. (poor boy had thought he did something to offend you, until you told him that you were still you, just much quieter in the mornings.) 

nevertheless, patience was his strong suit and you always appreciate this side of him. he’d wait until you were fully ready, before bombarding you with the excitement of that day. 

“here. have some water first.” he pushed a cup towards you and you gratefully received it with two hands, taking a sip. joshua liked how wholesome you looked right now: decked out in his sweatshirt, droopy eyes and all curled up on the chair.

he gazed at you lovingly as you took another sip. he mirrored your actions, enjoying his morning cup of coffee. “can I give you a hug?” he habitually asked. a nod from you and joshua is moving to stand in front of you, your arms slightly open to hold him. you two embraced each other, time seeming to pass by slowly. he lightly traced patterns under the soft fabric of your (his) shirt, relishing how warm you were.

“hi.” you whispered, voice a little scratchy but you inclined your head to look at him. 

joshua lit up. he loved moments like these. 

“hi back to my favorite person in the world.” he pressed a kiss on your forehead as you attempted to raise your voice a little louder than a whisper, “good morning.”

“need a bit more time?” he stroked your back, never breaking eye contact. You frowned, “uhh...” 

“it’s okay, take all the time you need. we don’t have much planned today.” he paused, gauging your reaction. 

one more thing joshua also knew of was how you didn’t like sudden changes to your usual routine. he’d make sure to tell you everything in advance. (bless him: he never found it tedious and rather has manage to incorporate this habit into his lifestyle. he says that he can take day-offs in advance to bring you out to nice places.) 

“mhm.” joshua took this as an invitation to continue, “i saw that on our shared calendar, we have nothing on today.” he pointed to the calendar at the corner of the table. joshua let you fiddle with it, and your lips formed a “O” and you blinked back at him. 

“so i was thinking of going to café 95 later today, that is if you don’t mind. jeonghan and seungcheol has a new menu so let us go try it.”

you nodded behind the mug and joshua beamed at the effort you were putting in to engage him back. “thank you.” you tested out, a small smile tugging your lips.

“ahh, why are you so cute in the morning??”

↬ jeonghan ; opening doors for you, pulling out chairs for you

“let me get that for you.” jeonghan extended his arms exaggeratedly, pulling out the chair for you with a curtsy. people were definitely staring at you two from across the diner. plus, you were pretty sure jeonghan was beaming because of your currently flushed face, but didn’t say anything about it. 

only after you two were seated, then you finally let out a breath, a smile gracing your lips, “hannie, what was that!” you burst out laughing at how he sincerely held his position and because you were so shocked he had to gently nudge you towards the chair. 

“what? can’t i be gentlemanly for the love of my life? this is the bare minimum by the way, you should expect more from me.” 

↬ joshua ; helping you to change out of your clothes after a long day

“love, you’re home!” joshua greeted and you gratefully reciprocated his hug. 

“i’m so sleepy.” you whined, and he lightly chuckled before picking you up, “then let’s get you into clean clothes hmm?” 

joshua easily removed your clothes, love and attention pouring into the way he was being careful with you. as soon as you two hit the bed, you promptly curled into his side, falling into deep slumber as he embraced you tightly. 

↬ woozi ; putting his hand around sharp edges 

“watch your head there,” woozi gently reminded, hands cupping around the pointy edge of the table as you bent down to grab your fork. he did it so unconsciously, continuing the conversation with jeonghan. you sat yourself upright, noting the hand covering the edge. smiling at the simple yet heartwarming act, you leaned over to peck woozi’s cheek, “thanks babe.” 

↬ dokyeom ; has hair ties on his hands 

dokyeom squinted at the blazing hot sun and you stood near him, mirroring his actions. he instinctively held his hands out, two or three hair ties adorning each wrist. 

you looked up at him, mirth clouding your eyes. since when did he start having your hair ties with him? “what?” dokyeom stared back at you in confusion. “nothing. I’ll be taking one of these.” you pretended to decide between the three, before pulling one off his wrist. “you cheeky little one.”

↬ seungkwan ; stopping everything he’s doing to pay attention to you

“kwan! Look!” he drops his phone to his lap, as you lean towards him, turning your laptop towards him. he wordlessly hooked his arm around your shoulders, listening attentively to your latest obsession over an anime you’ve started. “and i think that  this dude is really hot, i mean well not as hot as you of course…why are you staring at me like that?” you blushed, suddenly realizing how close he was to you. 

“i’m just listening to you, you big baby. go on, what were you saying?”

“hurry.”

summary: you’re tired, joshua’s tired, you two want to cuddle word count: 273 words

by the time joshua stepped into the room, he’s found you curled up on your side. it was dark out: his training had ended a little later than usual and he was hurrying back to spend the rest of his night with you. you had an arm tucked underneath your head, legs tucked into your body. 

“finally.” 

a small smile played on your lips and joshua lightly chuckled. with your eyes fluttering ever so slightly, you extended a hand towards him, hands splayed out for him to take. joshua’s breath seemed to stutter, yet his body moved forward until he’s standing right before you. 

“i'm dirty. sticky too.” 

he knows you can’t see him: hair all messed up, clothes reeking of sweat, and a bout of tiredness rolling off his shoulders in waves. your hand flops down, as if disappointed, but you peeked open an eye, hopefulness lacing your voice.

“hurry...” 

one word was all it took for joshua to scramble to the bathroom, and he made quick work of washing up. 

“c’mere.” 

joshua gratefully took respite in your arms, your fingers gingerly massaging through his hair. he basked in your presence, eyes never leaving you.

sighing in relief, tension ebbed away from him in huge waves, putting a smile on his face. joshua simply melted under your touch, becoming putty in an instant. 

“hmm?” 

he stifled a yawn, shaking his head. inching closer to you, his eyes locked onto yours. joshua’s fingers lightly traced patterns on your back, his feet holding you in place. you sleepily grinned back at him, opting to wrap your arms around his waist instead. 

“i love you.”

ᯓ★ seungcheol, jeonghan, mingyu, myungho

the sister-havers are understandable: they have sisters for siblings so they would know a thing or two (before you jump at me, yes i do know vernon and seungkwan have sisters so hear me out); and whereas for minghao? i'm so sure my man is born a fashionista so makeup would be easy for him; and for seungcheol i think that clip of him explaining the different perfumes/ cologne is enough for me to put him here

you don't have to tell them: they would be able to pick a similar or the exact shade right off the bat just by looking at your lips; call it unexplained hidden knack or that special eye for choosing makeup products

purposely (sneakily) grabs you by the chin to kiss you full on the lips just to see how good the product works; love love loves to watch you put on makeup and would gaze at you as you went about your business

bonus if they know color theory, or suggest different shades they think might look good on you (and i'm certain it will)

"you like it?" you swiped a sheen layer of gloss on your lips, before turning to your smitten boyfriend for approval. he does a once over, smile widening at the sight of you. he pulls you in by the waist lovingly, "i like that very much. now, give me a kiss!"

"no! you're gonna ruin it!" he rolls his eyes, "i'll buy you another." he knows you couldn't resist, so before you open your mouth to retort, he yanks you towards him and captures your lips. "i'll buy you as many as you want, so long you keep letting me do this."

𐙚 those who has some clue and tries to buy something you like 𐙚

ᯓ★ joshua, soonyoung, jihoon, vernon, seungkwan

i know vernon has a younger sister and kwanie has sisters, but hear me out: i don't think they are that interested in makeup products at all hence they are here; for joshua because he is such a gentleman he would take pictures of your lipsticks to know which ones to get, similar for hosh and wooz i think they would make sure you're physically with them so they don't get the wrong ones

because they aren't sure of the exact type/ shade/ tint, he would make the effort to know your favorite brands and colors at least so that he could go get them when he goes out shopping for your gifts <3 !! he wants to surprise you too, and might throw in other skincare products they are more confident in getting

call it algorithm influencing, but he sometimes sees the targeted ads on your phone and makes a mental note to ask you about it

very much prefers you in your natural state, but loves it when you doll up for them/ yourself because you are beautiful in their eyes (have you seen them barefaced wts!!)

"you like this one?" he leans over, his taller frame standing out painfully in the makeup section. you nod your head, "yeah? looks good doesn't it?" you swatch another color on the back of his hands and he observes closely, "this one has sparkles in it, but it's a lot more lighter than the other other one."

"i can't decide which one to get though." you frowned the back of his hands are littered with various shades, matching yours. he shakes his head, sporting a silly grin, "it's okay! we can browse longer. let's get something you really like."

𐙚 those who don't know, but buys something anyways 𐙚:

ᯓ★ junhwi, wonwoo, seokmin, chan

dedicated to the brother-havers and single children: i feel that these bunch of people are the group of people who don't know much about makeup and are perhaps less interested in it as you are; might even be clueless about it

they seem like the type to ask many questions about why some products are matte or glossy or why are they so liquid-y or why has there got to be many shades (in the sweetest and non-annoying way)

very green forest behavior when they know not to mess with your makeup products and to keep them stored away neatly

call it algorithm influencing, but when he spots some makeup brand promoting items, he'd come and ask for your opinion (so that he could take you out and buy it for you uwu)

unexpectedly i think somewhat related to makeup, wonwoo or dino feels like the type to enjoy doing facials with you

"i'm not sure if you like this, but i overheard you telling your friends you were running out. thought this might make your day." his heart was beating out of his chest, but he plays it cool by gifting you a small bag. you excitedly take it from him, and he relishes in the way your eyes practically light up. looks like he bought the right one.

"oh baby, thank you!" you hug him tight and he reciprocates the gesture, an affectionate beam all over his face. "it's the one i told you about! no way! you got it!" he exhales dramatically, "anything for you my love."

MASTERLIST

Joshua gently placed your hand in his as the other sat at the small of your back. It was a standard slow dance position, his eyes twinkling down at yours as the two of you started swaying to Bruno Major’s Reagent’s Park. The soft reverb of the song allowed the two of you to get lost in each other’s eyes, something that rarely happened because of your clashing schedules, but the two of you held each other close, swaying to the song.

He gently spun you around, a bubble of your giggles releasing into the air, him bringing you close to his chest after. There were sickening smiles on your faces as you stared at each other. You gently placed your arms around his neck before burying your face in his chest, feeling it vibrate from his soft laughter. His strong arms wrapped around your torso and planted a lingering kiss on your hair, taking in the comforting scent of your shampoo. 

It was a simple two-step dance; the song itself is short, but the nearly 3-minute song felt like forever as the two of you bathed in each other’s presence, something that the two of you haven’t been able to do for a while. You reminisced of the memories of your high school prom, now slow dancing with him in your living room instead of the dingy school gym. Your thoughts faded as he placed his hand on your cheek, wishing to see your face once more, his heart swelling at the sight of you.

And he kissed you. 

It was a gentle kiss as if he would break you if he kissed you harder. But it was pure, pure innocence and love, his soft lips brushing against yours before pressing together again. Your hand rested on his as he gently rubbed your cheek; the matching silver bands of love on your fingers glinted in the city lights as he continued to hold you close. He smiled against your lips, soft giggles releasing from the both of you as your noses bumped against each other.

And as he looked at you with his soft eyes once more, you felt yourself falling in love with him once more.

yo okay but imagine calling joshua “baby” and him just doing whatever he’s doing and saunter over to you (like the simp he is) but like “baby” in english or imagine him calling you over and then straight up switching to english just to call you over and then going back to full korean-

like i’ve been sitting here thinking about it for about two minutes now, all flustered, because my thoughts are kinda crazed rn

[2:21 am]

“It’s you,” he smiled.

“It’s me,” you giggled.

You softly pushed your two bowls of ramen and soda onto the counter for Joshua to scan, shamelessly pulling out money from your 2nd grade Hello Kitty wallet that he had complimented a week ago.

After paying, Joshua slapped a pack of Pepero onto one of the bowls and locked his eyes with your shocked ones.

“For you, my favorite customer,” Joshua winked at you, watching you erupt in laughter.

You slapped the top of one of the ramen bowls and pushed it towards him before grinning back at his surprised face.

“For you, my favorite cashier boy,” you mocked him, sending an exaggerated wink. You watched in amusement as his ears turned the slightest tint of red while he let out a loud laugh.

The two of you sat laughing while eating ramen together outside of the 711 at 2 in the morning, an open pack of Pepero opened between the two of you.
