Why?
I post once in a blue moon but I just couldn’t let this go..I cannot call myself a Shawol but I’ve always liked and respected SHINee as one of the biggest k-pop groups.But the recent news about Jonghyun shocked me to the point that made me stop functioning.I cannot stop thinking how he was in Hello Baby and I’ve never expected someone like him would do something like that..I won’t remember him only for his talent but also for his bright personality.I really cannot and I don’t want to believe the news..I’m praying for his family,friends,fans and the other SHINee members..What happened to him is the greatest wake up call for all of us..I hope that now a lot more people will realize that depression is quite well spread among the k-pop artists and I truly hope that the idols with depression find the help they need. Jonghyun is not the first idol who commits suicide because of depression and I know he won’t be the last.Let’s be not only fans but also a good friends for our idols..I also hope the entertainment companies will change as well because they play a major role in their idols mental conditions...
It’s indeed a very dark day..

How much can society expect from one person? Having performers/idols/singers/rappers/dancers throwing themselves into huge spotlight doesn’t give you the right to expect anything from them. They are the artist, the creator. You have a choice as the public, to follow or to unfollow. Your “constructive criticisms” wouldn’t change anything in terms of their creation, but will leave a huge scar on the creator.
Jonghyun committed suicide because he thought that he isn’t talented, he is not at the level of expectation deemed by society. He felt pressured, and unsatisfied with himself, but he continued to work on his flawless “flaws”.
He’s tired now. He wants to give up because no matter how hard he works, society will never appreciate him; will never give him a chance, because they are to suck up with stereotypes and trends. They have forgotten about originality.
“But he has millions of fan,” you said.
Let me tell you this, no matter how much compliment you receive, with just one hate mail or what people call “constructive criticisms” will destroy the creators’ mood because all they have in mind is to satisfy everyone, and make everyone happy.
Performers are humans too and human makes mistakes. They get sick and tired of trying, overthink at times and feel pain too. We, as fans/society/public, should appreciate performing arts as it is. It’s ok to have different taste. You can always go search for something suitable for you instead of leaving criticisms or trying to change someone’s style.
Before it’s too late everybody. Do something about it.
