standing in simon's kitchen, the sound of the pan sizzling and music softly playing from your phone filled the room. texting you earlier in the day, simon had asked for you to come over tonight. no explanation or reason, just that he needed to see you and figured a relaxed night in would be nice. and having a spare key to his home, you figured you would head over while he was still out in an effort to surprise him with dinner as opposed to ordering take out.

distracted by the noises of the kitchen and humming along to your music, the sound of the door opening and closing didn't catch your attention. so, when arms securely found their way around your waist you couldn't help but jolt in response.

"lucky it's jus' me," the familiar voice quickly soothed your anxiety thinking it was a stranger.

"could've announced yourself," tilting your head to the side slightly, you glanced up at him and saw the tired smile painted on his face. "everything alright?"

"mhm," he hummed and gave your waist a gently squeeze that pulled you closer to him. his nose brushed against you neck as his body swayed to the music still coming from you phone. "better now. shit day, but didn't expect you here makin' dinner f' me."

letting him sway back and forth with you while you cooked, you finished up with the food on the stove and shut the burner off. turning around in his arms, your hands reached to give his biceps a squeeze while you leaned forward to place a kiss on his chest before looking up at him. "go get changed and i'll have the food ready by the time you come down," you told him, but he shook his head in response.

"wanna finish the song first," simon explained, placing a kiss on top of your head. "keep hummin' too."

and after two more songs came on, only then did he let you slip away from his hold to finish up setting up dinner while he headed to go change. his hand reaching for his phone in his back pocket to quickly make note of the first song.
