Who are you, Cyborg Sonic?

Let's talk about this, shall we?

(I'd like to offer my thanks to @/star-critter for listening to my insane ramblings about how Cyborg Sonic could have the hardest existential crisis)

So.

We all know Cyborg Sonic, along with the rest of Team Cybonic, were created to be perfect duplicates of the organic Team Sonic; down to every last detail, they are "twins" to Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Sticks, even their personalities match - and I believe even their way of life would be the same. Literally no difference.

Can you even imagine what would happen if Team Cybonic just tried to be "themselves" instead being duplicates of Team Sonic?

There is no possible way their AI would allow them to act outside of how they were made to act. imo

And what on Bygone Island caused Cyborg Sonic to keel over and start quetsioning his entire existence? Someone with half the brain asked the million dollar question: Who are YOU?

And Cy-Sonic couldn't answer. His AI is telling him that he is Sonic, but is that really his answer?

copy-pasted from my discord DMs Canonically, as we known, Cyborg Sonic does freeze up and basically have “.Exe not responding” moments when he encounters something his AI cannot compute.

Now imagine that, but so much worse.

Instead of freezing up and saying does not compute, Cyborg Sonic just falls to his knees, clutching his head, eyes glitching in and out of consciousness as he tries to answer the question “who are you?” And his AI can’t answer because he’s Sonic but who is he really?

Is he a person or is he just another Sonic, with no purpose other than being just a copy of Sonic?

Does he have freedom? Does he have a choice? If he truly wanted to be his own person, can he even be himself?

Is he thinking for himself, or is he just an extension of Sonic’s will? Are his emotions and actions his own? Is he even real?

He doesn’t know.

And I'm afraid he will never have an answer. He's stuck in this perpetual conflict between who he thinks he is and who he wants to be.

So, what’s next?

I have this beautifully written arc where Cyborg Sonic slowly abandons his AI coding in search of freedom, happiness and purpose; but as he does, he slowly starts to realise he hates Sonic.

At first, Cy don’t mind me I like calling him Cy thought Bolts could just open him up and fix whatever was wrong inside his head. Now obviously that didn’t work and instead it have Cyborg Sonic more questions than answers.

Who is he, if he’s not Sonic? What is his purpose? What’s the meaning of his life, his creation?

Desperate for help, Cy looks for the one who gave him those questions; the hedgehog who first asked “who are you?”

Shadow the Hedgehog, boys.

This has now turned into my insane ramblings about how Shadow and Cyborg Sonic can be friends and maybe something more :3

Although we don’t know who or how; Shadow must have been made by someone in Sonic Boom. That’s kind of his whole story, so of course it must have happened in Sonic Boom too.

So think about it; how would Shadow react to someone just like him?

Probably not very friendly at first, but as he learn, I’m pretty sure Shadow and Cyborg could potentially form a bond with each other. Because drum roll they’re both created.

From that, they could grow to be friends. But the most important part of this narrative is Shadow teaching Cyborg Sonic to be his own person hedgehog?

And with Shadow guidance, Cy started to abandon his AI, the code he was created with, and he finally felt free.

Free to hate the one who put this miserable existence on him.

Sonic Boom: Artifical

Black with red stripes.  That was a hedgehog Cyborg Sonic had not seen during his limited travels to Bygone Island. The stranger was glaring at him. Well, maybe not him directly; his friends, organic and cyborg, were with him after all. But regardless, this was someone new. And Cyborg Sonic wanted to know him.

Honestly you have no idea how well this could work out because of this

Like just two robot/cyborg copies of Sonic sitting down and having a crisis conversation together and plotting their move against Sonic-

“My name is Cyber.”

Yep. That will be Cyborg Sonic’s new name after he sorts out his crisis and identity issues.

Believe it or not, I can up with that name while listening to this song.

Optional challenge; anyone who’s interested, give Cyber a design. I don’t have one yet so if I see any that’s really interesting , I might incorporate it into his design, with your permission of course :)

Once again I have been reminded of the lack of content we have of Cyborg Sonic
