#boerne has been a great outsider all throughout his life okay #we know about the other children throwing him into trash cans and all #and of course he was a smart ass kid and figured that he should just focus on his grades #because success would pay off in respect and approval from others #and he just kind of accepted the fact that he'd not have a lot of friends by his side #and then he became part of the society he was already born to be part of #he still was fucking successful at everything he did #after all it was the only thing he ever learned to be great at #but his private life? still a mess #he married a woman who would eventually just leave him with her therapist #he threw himself into an affair with a woman who tried to pass off her kid as his #nothing really seemed to stay #and nothing besides his work really seemed to matter #don't get me wrong #I'm sure he's always loved and still loves his job #but he tried to fill the wrong hole in his life with it #until Thiel came along #(this is important so I'll put some exclamation marks behind it) #!!!
#and Thiel was just so different to all the other people he'd met #Thiel didn't care about his achievements at work #(except when it would be helpful to their case. but then again it was Boerne's job to be helpful to the case) #Thiel didn't care about his snobbery #'you're listening to classical music? good for you. can you turn down the volume tho' #'no I don't want your wine. I don't care how expensive it is. give me my beer' #'restaurants? how about we cook some spaghetti at my place' #Thiel maybe didn't care about Boerne's snobbery but #but! #he *did* care about Boerne himself #which for a long time seemed to be the same thing but - surprise! - it isn't! #of course Thiel wouldn't be overly affectionate #but he would show his admiration in other ways #letting Boerne be part of his investigations for example #listening to him even though it wasn't always something he was particularly interested in #or just spending the evenings with him #without trying or knowing Thiel gave Boerne another sense of life #Boerne felt seen and understood #in a way that he almost forgot about
#and Thiel? #don't get me started on Thiel #he was definitely not doing great when he first came to Münster #life had become so numb for Thiel since his wife and his son left #but Boerne wouldn't allow him to crawl up into his shell #he'd tease him and make him laugh and also make him go mad and he'd make him *feel* something #Boerne would look at him and say: 'yeah you've been hurt too let's be alone together' #until they WEREN'T anymore
#guys #they've been through so much together #they've seen each other at their highest and lowest points #they share so much. #so when JJL says that a life without Thiel just wouldn't be worth it for Boerne #and AP says that Thiel and Boerne would rather be dead than apart #they're talking about the way they complement each other #the way their lives *depend* on one another #because tell me
#how could you ever live your life #without the soul that is so well entangled in your own?
