Main Street, U.S.A Tips & Tricks

The Magic Kingdom Park is separated into seven lands, Main Street U.S.A, Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland and Tomorrowland, Now one unique thing is that the layout of the park is like a wheel, so the castle acts like the wheel and the pathways to the different lands are the "spokes". Okay let's start off with Main Street first, because that is the first land you will come to upon entering the Magic Kingdom. Le's get started!

Our first tip is plan to do your shopping during a parade or in the early afternoon as opposed to at the day’s end. Why? Because the shops are less crowded and you won’t have to fight the crowds at the end of the day. Trust me the Main Street shops at night when everyone is making their way out is horrendous and not worth the stress! Also another little tidbit that you should know, is that if you are staying at a resort on Disney property, you have the option to send whatever you buy back to your resort and just pick it up at the gift shop when you get back. That way you aren't lugging heavy bags around the park all day. Just make sure that it IS NOT your last day there.

One of my favorite things about the Magic Kingdom, is the Walt Disney World Railroad! The railroad has three stops and they are: Frontierland, Fantasyland and you guessed it Main Street. This is a great way to get acquainted with the Magic Kingdom if you’ve never been before, but it’s also a fantastic way to relax and you get a nice breeze on those hot Florida days. Beware though, the railroad doesn’t run during firework presentations so plan accordingly!

Another way to get from one end of Main Street to the other, is by taking one of the Main Street vehicles. These vehicles include a Horse-Drawn Street Car, a Jitney, which is an early automobile without a roof, a Fire Engine, a replica of the very first fire truck and an Omnibus, a gas-powered, open-air 2-story bus. Now keep in mind that this is a one-way trips so once you get to where the vehicle stops you will be asked to hop off. That is all of the helpful tips I can think of for Main Street, U.S.A, so if you have any let me know!! Next up will be Adventureland!

Frontierland Tips & Tricks

Frontierland takes you all the way back to the American move out west during the 1700s and the 1800s. From the beautiful mountain ranges, raging waters, unexplored caves and abandon forts there is no shortage of fun to be had here by all.

The first tip I have is for one of the most popular rides in Frontierland and that is Splash Mountain. AS most of you know there is a fifty percent chance that you will get DRENCHED on this ride. Well if you’re not a fan of walking around in wet clothes fear no more, I got you covered! The first thing you can do is put an extra set of clothes in a couple of plastic bag (or one of the big Disney merchandise bags work wonderfully) and then change after you get off the ride…OR you could just sit on the left side of the log. What? Sitting of the left side of the ride? Yup if you sit on the left side you’ll still get a bit wet, but you won’t get as wet as what you would if you sat on the right.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is another extremely popular attraction in Frontierland and because of that the line tends to be very long. If this attraction is one of your must dos then my suggestion would be to hit this ride during the Festival of Fantasy parade! I’m telling you to do during the parade because most families will be watching that, which means you will have little to no waiting and it is magical!!

The Country Bear Jamboree is one of the less popular attractions, but if you’ve never been on it before check it out! One thing though is that if you do decide to watch it, just know that this attraction opens at 10 a.m. everyday even though the rest of the park opens earlier in the day.

Main Street, U.S.A Fun Fact

You may or may not have noticed, that the entire length of main Street, U.S.A is bordered by red pavement, almost as if the red carpet had been rolled out for you. Well it has been, when creating Main Street, Disney consulted Kodak and they determined that one particular shade of red would enhance guest photographs. So thank you Disney and Kodak for making sure our vacation photos look fantastic!!

Listen, I've been pretty impressed with the #blacklivesmatter movement. I being African American want to see change. It's great people are demanding change for an issue that's been swept under the rug for far too long.

That said, I don't think they should re-theme Splash Mountain with the Princess and the Frog. Now before you get mad here me out.

Yes, I understand people are upset about the rides racist roots. Yes, I understand Tiana is a strong Princess who deserves her own ride in the parks. And yes, I understand this is growth for Disney.

But consider this.

1.) I dunno it feels like some handout. Like shouldn't Tiana have her own ride entirely instead of being used to cover up racially controversial ride? Like they only chose her to replace the ride because they figured she'd appease the people the ride currently offends. (If you catch what I'm saying) This girl was all about putting the work in to make her dream happen. Instead of working to create a new ride in honor of her story, her story feels like it's just a new paint job. Was her story chosen to replace splash mountain because it was a good fit or for other reasons?

2.) Tiana's dream was to open a restaurant. Why not instead of a ride give the Princess what she dreamed of in Liberty Square? Have beignets and a jazzy New Orleans vibe restaurant. At an affordable price, like the princess would have wanted.

3.) I read Disney's release statement saying they'd been planning this update for almost a year. So what? Was the original tweet just to create buzz so that when they changed the theme it would seem like the people's idea? I don't know if kind of suspicious if you ask me.

4.) Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm kinda assuming more than 5o% of the people advocating for the change had never heard of Song of the South until this was brought up. Like I asked my co-workers who are all at least 4 years older than me and they had no clue the movie existed. I was the only one out of 12. Soo... the ride kind of existed too many as its own thing separate from the movie all ready.

5.) By replacing the ride entirely, it feels less like Disney is owning their mistake and more like they're trying to forget it. Maybe instead of replacing the story you fix it so it isn't racist rewrite the characters. Fix the problem instead of covering it up with something shiny and new. Perhaps giving the characters new names, improved dialects, and a story all their own is the right way to go.

6.) Where am I going to hear Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Da? It's kind of a park classic, that'll leave me feeling incomplete if I don't hear it somewhere in the park.

7.) If they are going to redo the ride are they still going to own up to what they did. For me personally they should or they should just consider number 5. Will there be a plaque for people to read while in line that basically says they messed up. They made a ride that hurt many people. They know this won't fix what they did, but they want to be better.

8.) It's a classic Disney ride. They've already taken away so many classics. The Great Movie Ride, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, etc. This is one ride I want my kids to enjoy. And they later want to educate them on its history. This one was a big part of my childhood and I want it to be a part of my children's.

9.) Also if they really want to make a statement maybe the profits made off the Splash Mountain Merchandise that's seein a price increase, should be donated to the BLM movement.

10.) My biggest fear is that by replacing the ride many will forget what was once there. And just let Disney off the hook. They'll forget the history. They'll forget the story. And when we forget history, we often repeat it.

"History is who we are and why we are the way we are." ~David McCullough

No amount of guilt can change the past and in order to move forward we can't forget it. Any way... There's my rant on that. I'm sure you all have your opinions. I just ask that you respect mine. And could you imagine a Tiana, New Orleans style restaurant? God, I'd love it.

Also I do love Disney I do. But they doesn’t feel like they’re respecting the character it feels like they’re using her because she appeals to a group of people they’ve offended. Tiana deserves her own ride made from scratch and her own god damn restaurant. Thank you for listening to my rant.

Congrats?

Pandering. Pandering. Pandering. There reskinning the ride to cover up their racist mistake. And chose Tiana because she appeals to the very audience they offended.

She deserves to have the work put in and have her own ride made from scratch. Or I dunno... her own RESTAURANT.

Instead of erasing their mistake they should just reboot it in an effort to replace the racist undertone but not erase the history entirely.

And honestly I can't tell if this is more white people getting excited about the change or black people. Because only one side deserves any say in the matter because they're the ones the ride offends.

I'm black and it really feels like they're pandering and trying to erase disney history.

They are going to change Splash Mountain and make it a Princess and The Frog ride….this is what Tiana deserves.
