my psych recently explained that the reason so many of us with adhd who were once considered gifted in childhood struggle and get diagnosed later is because of lack of structure.

in elementary, everything was mapped out for us, we got packets, our homework came with written instructions, etc.

and then middle school or high school or college or work slapped us with No Routine, and made us have to build our own, but because we have adhd and we’re easily sidetracked, those routines often arent built.

we’re left scrambling to try to keep everything together as much as we can.
