I take a deep, shuddering breath. “Alright, let’s get to the point. Why did you want to see me?” 

She inhales sharply, and her back arches like she’s about to puke. “I wanted to tell you that I’m sorry.”

My blood freezes. “You’re…Sorry?”

She grabs another fistful of chips. “I should have appreciated you more when you were with me. When you left, I was absolutely screwed.”

I shake my head, unable to believe what I’m hearing. “I don’t understand.”

When people asked [Philo] why an attorney-slash-fixer needed combat training, he didn’t know what to tell them.

The alleyway was narrow enough to block out the neon glare of the main streets, casting malicious shadows on the walls. Even in the darkness, [he] knew his opponent wasn’t there.

“Come out, ▮▮▮▮▮, I thought you wanted a fight,” Philo taunted, advancing deeper into the shadow.

A low snarl answered him, stopping him in his tracks immediately. In the next moment, something had lunged its full body at him. In the moment following that, the attacker was on the ground. Black blood gushed out of the wounds caused by Philo’s gun, the monster writhing and whining its way to death.

Spineless, Philo thought with disgust.
