A Original Short Story Snippet
Title: A Deal with the Devil works two ways
This was something I had written for a prompt and it turned out pretty okay. I thought Tumblr would like this piece. Open to reviews, lemme know what you think :)

Moth to a flame. That’s what we called human behaviour. A bat of an eyelash, a lure of wealth. They but fell like a house of cards. Ah, those fools.
The same thought passed through our head as we looked down to see her clutching to us tightly. She smelled different, ah, she lacked sight. It seems this time the moth which lingered too close to the fire wasn’t even able to see the flames.
“Papa! I’ve been waiting so long, you got late!”
Huh?
This wasn’t expected.
We were told to tempt a priest, how had it ended up this way?
“Malov?”
We looked up to meet the eyes of our superior, like red from the depths of hell.
We clutched the small body closer to our own gently as she slept. He raised an eyebrow at our subconscious action.
“Have you grown soft, you fool?”
A protective grunt left our lips before we could stop it. This kid had shown us a kindness, something we had long forgotten, and a deal with the devil works two ways.
“The priest” we said in fury. “The priest is more of a monster himself than I can tempt him to be. In his orphanage he-“
Sayehr put a finger to his lips, his eyes with a knowing twinkle.
“I knew Malov, I knew. Why do you think I sent you there?”
He reached out and softly wiped off some blood and soot of our coat.
“But to burn down the whole building?” He laughed. “Well you always went overboard when it came to the code.”
Our eyes shifted down to look at the little child in our arms, as she nuzzled closer.
“Apologies, sir.”
“There’s no need for those, boy.” He chuckled as he pet our hair gently.
“Now go, put her to rest.”
“How can we?”
Sayehr looked at us solemnly. “Maybe because you should rest now too.”
We could only stare in shock as he smiled again and pointed us to a narrow path.
“You did good, Malov. Now rest well.”
So we walked on in the direction he pointed to us, a road which seemed to lead to the sunset itself. The weight of the child in my arms seemingly increased, as her soul started to absorb what little energy it could to return to a more corporeal form.
She rested her sleepy head on our shoulders and smiled softly, the familiar brand on her wrist- our brand-shining lightly in the evening glow. A mark of a deal, a seal to the code.
“I’m cold papa, I don’t want to stay here with the Father anymore...let’s go home to rest! I wanna sleep.” She had said.
“We will go and sleep well really soon sara. My sweet sweet girl” we whispered to her now. She giggled in her sleep, hugging us closer.
Both the ghost of the little blind girl and the unburdened soul of the sinner, both were finally allowed to rest in peace.
