In the planet Tamaran, it is tradition for all genders to let their hair grow long, and only cut it when they get married to represent the new beginning. In fact, it is part of the wedding itself: the bride's hair is braided with the groom's hair and then the braid is cut off with a knife, leaving both of them with short hair and just married.
