Childe's childhood sweetheart getting insecure with how much time childe is spending time with lumine. Imagine the angst potential.

as a lover of lumine i would fall for her but yes, the angst is there.

it may have been years since childe had been by your side in morespok but you were certain that you two were as close as ever when reunited in liyue. except for an addition of the hero adventurer, lumine. she's eye capturing, the type of beauty you see once in a lifetime like a shooting star and you hate to admit it, but lumine seems like a perfect fit for childe. she's capable of fighting childe and even beats him, something you were yet to do. you felt like an awkward thirdwheel when childe and lumine talk, just like paimon - it's not like she's the main character and you're a forgotten side character though when they smile at each other, your heart aches. childe spends so much time with lumine too, constantly asking her for a spar - you may not be as adept as she is, though you could try as long as he would look your way. the insecurity eats at your heart when his attention diverts from you, feeling lost as if in the harsh winters of snezhaya.

A/N: lemme know if you want childe comforting reader anon !!! i'm happy 2 write that hehe <3

tenderness in the rain (the common trope of romance)

Tenderness In The Rain (the Common Trope Of Romance)

word count of 1.3k angst under the cut written as a response to the ask - "Childe's childhood sweetheart getting insecure with how much time childe is spending time with lumine." art creds

You admit that Liyue is not your familiar Morespok as the clouds heave with gentle droplets and not crystalline hail of your hometown. Would Childe too become accustomed to the landscape of Morax’s creation and no longer yearn for the icy winds of Snezhaya? Perhaps, that’s why he feels distant and more acquainted with Lumine, the saviour of Liyue. Who wouldn’t be drawn to the eye of the storm that surrounds the mystery of the traveller, hailing from the stars that alight the night sky? If the citizens were glowing lanterns, Childe was the waning moon and Lumine the brilliant diamonds accompanying him. Such negative thoughts in the evening made you sigh into your cooling tea, feeling no appetite for the seafood feast of Yue cooking as it only reminded you of the man of your affections, who no doubt at this moment would be pestering the illustrious adventurer for a spar.

At times like these, you miss the chilled bottles of alcohol that you could indulge in the taverns of Morespok. The burn of beverage could no doubt wash away the intoxicating insecurity that had you craving for Childe, desires engraved in your every waking moment. You mused that it was merely wishful thinking, for he had pervaded his way into even the escape of liquor, memories of late nights flooding your mind, reminding you of your youth with Childe. You had spent your rebellious phase with him, taking stinging shots of vodka together as teenagers, yielding to the charm of underage drinking. The subsequent headaches and scolding were shared together, hunting for foxes as repentance though the trudging trips into the snow only etched his captivating form against the pale mountain caps into your mind. You smiled to yourself, longing to be soothed by the visage of his comforting back or be swathed in his warmth, imagining him offering you his coat in the midst of shivering. If only these were drunken daydreams and not your sober self so you could have an excuse for the emotional thunderstorm in your heart.

Having been done with your meal a considerable time ago, you placed Mora on the table to leave for your temporary quarters only to be met with the bursting of the clouds above you. The light rainfall felt like a reflection on your weeping heart as you strolled onwards, how could the rain dampen your already crushed mood? When you rounded the corner past Wangsheng Parlour however, you found that, yes, the rain could cause you to fall even further apart, thunder rumbling through the city as your gaze met Lumine’s.

She had an umbrella held above her head by none other than Childe, sheltering her from the water with a fond expression, locked towards Lumine’s face. She must have noticed the wounded look on your downcast face as you turned around, heart dropping to your stomach hearing her shout of your name. You were grateful for the rain, hoping it could conceal the rivers of tears that fell from your eyes. You had never wanted to admit it, but the scene confirmed to you that your childhood sweetheart has grown up, without you and to other lovers. She’s so perfect for him, I should be happy, not hurt.

Absorbed in the dejected emotions consuming your heavy heart and miserable mind, you didn’t pay attention to your surroundings nor the obvious lack of rain soaking your form as you walked in silence. You flinched when a gloved hand brushed a tear from your cheek, eyes flicking up to see Childe, the stormy expression on his features making your heart sink even further. Ah, I must’ve interrupted their date. You tried to find the words to apologise, only managing out a soft spoken “I’m sorry-”

“For what? Who made you cry?” Huh? Who made me cry? You let out an incredulous scoff to yourself, finding humor in the situation and mumbling a half-hearted excuse, “Nobody, it’s not like it matters. I must’ve bothered you and Lumine, that’s why I said sorry.”

“Of course it matters to me y/n, who would dare to make my beloved upset? You could never bother me, don’t apologise for no reason.” You choked at the sudden mention of “beloved”, taken aback by the conflicting statements of Childe to your heart’s dejected state. Stunned speechless, you could despondently cry as his arms made his way around you, eyes closing shut in a desperate prayer that this wasn’t a delusion. Childe’s heartbeat against yours felt real. It was racing, just like your thoughts and his low murmurs of ‘there, there’ accompanied with his hands running through your hair had you defeated in his embrace. I’m so in love with him. I can’t help feeling sad and happy at the same time, how strange. You could feel yourself calming to the sound of his reassuring tone, heart returning to ease. How a simple motion of being held tightly by Childe could make your world’s axis realign and find the courage to ask, “Who's your beloved?”

“It’s you, of course it’s you. It’s always been you, ever since we were foolish kids and even now as we stand in the rain. You made me happiest when I saw you again in front of me in Liyue, where I was far from home and you. You make me happy now, in my hold and I promise you, I will get revenge on whoever made you cry.”

His comfortingly familiar voice in your ear made you bury your blushing face into his collarbone, too tickled pink to tell him the now embarrassing truth and misunderstandings in your doubtful mind. “If you can’t tell me immediately, that’s fine. Though, sweetheart never turn away from me alright? Tsarita’s mission has been difficult and you have been my light in this harrowing tunnel of change. Soon enough, we will return after this mission is complete and I will have you in Snezhaya, where we belong.”

You felt a smile curve your lips upwards, feeling at peace at last in this turbulent storm of a night. In the distant earshot, you could hear Paimon exclaim to Lumine, “Finally he’s made up with y/n! He’s been so pent up recently, always wanting a fight because he doesn’t want to bother y/n who seemed distant.” Lumine hushed Paimon, “Shhh… I don’t think we’re meant to be here. Let’s not bother the lovebirds, I bet he hasn’t even confessed his feelings for her yet!” Paimon’s cordial exclamation of “What a bad boyfriend!” made you giggle to yourself which made Childe part from you, a worried expression on his handsome face examining yours for any change. Feeling courageous with the turn of events, you leaned forward, placing a fleeting kiss on his lips before pulling away. “I like you, Childe. I always have since our childhood and I felt insecure that you were spending so much time with Lumine. You made me cry but it’s all okay now, just as long as you become my boyfriend!”

Out of breath from the hurried jumble recounting your feelings and thoughts and abrupt proposal of formal relationship after the nervous kiss, you prepared yourself for rejection by closing your eyelids, only for them to open wide at the feeling of Childe’s lips pressed passionately against yours. He seems to steal your breath from your empty lungs even more, leaving you breathless as he pulls away with a beaming smile on his face. “I’m so glad that you like me too. I will never let you cry again because of a reason that is my fault and easily fixed. I’ll be your boyfriend y/n, your husband if you would let me too. I love you.”

Another idea i have this time with childe is that he had fallen out of love with reader and cant bear to tell the reader and decided to pretend he still loves them but the reader knows but still chooses to hold on because she loves him but then she saw how childe and lumine interact, it reminded her of her relationship with childe before they become a couple how they used to be so sweet and happy. So the reader just decided to end the relationship because she realized that if you truly loved someone you will let them go if that means they will be happy. ( childe didn't really cheat but he does starts to have feelings with lumine but you know cant be lumine because reader)

hi anon!!! i put a lil twist on this idea by making hanahaki disease exist in genshin. there is a perspective shift from childe to reader!

Another Idea I Have This Time With Childe Is That He Had Fallen Out Of Love With Reader And Cant Bear

"Welcome to Scent of Spring, what can I get you today?”

It’s almost hilarious that the last time Childe had frequented this store, he was courting you, purchasing a bouquet each time he went to win over your heart. Others had joked that the next flowers Childe would buy were for your wedding - the customary flower ball for the married to toss into the oncoming crowd, for blessings of married life and eternity. And now, he was requesting a sorry bouquet.

Where did it go wrong? When did his thoughts start to drift to Lumine’s face and not yours? The pleasant tranquility of peace that you would bring him dulls in comparison to the electric rush that Lumine sparks in his heart, and even as he browses the store's wares, his eyes are drawn to pale yellows and whites, reminiscent of the heroine. Childe knows how to pretend, he’s Fatui after all, so the role of a loving boyfriend who just forgot their anniversary and not fallen out of love is one he can play without a fault, though he knows he’s breaking your heart with every white lie.

As the shop assistant wraps up the bouquet of pink and purple carnations, Childe’s mind drifts to thoughts of sparring with Lumine, when he could spend time with Lumine, memories with Lumine and just Lumine. It seemed like all he could ever think of was her, not even a second spared to you and when his daze is snapped by the complete bouquet, his practiced feigned charming smile sends butterflies into the assistant’s stomach, no wonder you couldn’t let go.

Childe approaches your door with the bouquet hidden behind his back, image of sweetness and not a traitor with his heart elsewhere. When he knocks, you’re at the door immediately and as his amber guilty eyes meet yours, you know. His thoughts must be on Lumine and not you, you could tell, you’ve been in love with him just too long to not know. Even as he thrusts the flowers into your shaking hands, you know that there is no love behind them, his feelings are reserved for another. You know who he pretends you are.

How can you compare to the one chosen by the stars as you stand as shaky as a leaf in Barbato’s wildest winds in front of the man you love? Perhaps the archons give you strength in that moment, gulping back your internal pleas to keep Childe by your side, you interrupt Childe before he gets to sway you with his honeyed tongue. “Childe, thank you for the flowers. Let’s.” You pause, hesitating to yourself as tears fall down into the bouquet.

“Let’s break up. You should see other people.” The tears threaten to choke you, feeling your heart break inside your chest and when you’re met with stunned silence, you gather the strength to slam the door, dropping the flowers to the floor as you begin to sob. It’s over. You’ve parted with Childe, the ghost of his once promised everlasting love and as the tears flow unrelentingly like a river, petals unfurl within your chest. Your once awaited spring with Childe have dug their roots into your lungs, bloodying your throat with agony as you hack up a garden, one Childe had planted inside you.

You’re reminded of him as the flowers of his bouquet begin to wilt, feeling your health begin to fail you. You know that despite finally letting him fade away from your life, you still treasure him beyond words and actions, having treated the flowers with care you know you can no longer give to Childe ( You repeat to yourself : He chose someone else over you. The flowers have no meaning.) What once were the beginnings of the disease, your throat’s flesh tickled by uncomfortable petals have begun to blossom into buds that make you choke in pain when trying to breathe. Sometimes, when it gets bad and your heart aches desperately for Childe’s warmth, your sink ends up rinsing blood and rotting carnations down the drain.

When you visit Bubu pharmacy, Qiqi’s soft mention of your state makes you laugh softly. How could you explain that you broke up with the love of your life? And that you’re now dying, but you did it for him. Because you love him. Baizhu’s sympathetic smile as he hands you a concoction to aid your deteriorating throat tells you that this is not the first time he’s seen this condition. Though you had never wanted to let go of these feelings, you’ve found yourself with courage in many unexpected moments recently. “Is there a cure?”

The man looks down at Qiqi who posed the innocent question that had meanings beyond the mind of a zombie child and answered in a somber tone. “Yes, but it involves cutting off your feelings for the person who made you this way forever. Sometimes, when you love someone very much Qiqi, it’s hard to do that.” Baizhu’s wisdom is like an old oak tree and his words comfort you temporarily as he speaks, though they only strike home as you’re struck by a violent coughing fit of fully fledged flowers, bloodied by the thorns scratching at your throat. As you collapse onto the floor of the pharmacy, supported by Baizhu and Qiqi, reality hits like winter to orchards, barren with the knowledge that you must decide. Your love or your life.

“Your condition is becoming critical… any longer and you will die. Will you take the surgery?” The outburst of petals, blooming as they fall from your bloody lips are a painful reminder that Childe’s moved on without you - he no longer loves you. Painfully ignoring the internal desire to keep your love for him and through blurry tears in your eyes, you accept Baizhu’s offer.

The long wilted bouquet from Childe sits by your bed as you recover from the procedure, their meanings lost to you as you tend to your health with Qiqi, whose forgetfulness only warms your days as your condition improves. “Remember me. I’ll never forget you.” Though somewhere in your heart, a part of you aches when you gaze at the vase of decaying flowers, you discard of them - they no longer hold any memory to you.

After the surgery, brighter days are imminent, smiling like a sunflower as you stroll through Liyue, Qiqi in your hand as you guide her to your appointment at Liuli Pavilion - a celebration for your complete recovery. As you pass by the glaze lilies, you pause to show Qiqi the way they sway and respond to song. With a nostalgic melody of forgotten love and marriage that brings joy, the glaze lilies dance along as you sing. Above the patch of flowers was Northland Bank and the familiar tune captures Childe’s attention, having not seen nor heard from you for weeks now as you recuperated away from his sight. A part of him feels guilt, relief and most of all regret as he hears you radiant compared to the misery he had seen you last. When he calls your name with a faux cheery “How have you been?” you only tilt your head sideways, a motion that he’s long observed to mean utter adorable confusion, and you reply, “Hello there, who are you?”

The anguish that stings Childe is well deserved despite his obliviousness to the fact the surgery had removed not only your feelings for the man but your memory of Childe completely. Perhaps it’s better this way, the two of you now no more than strangers who were once in love.

How about childe gets angry and then reader threatens to commit suicide. (hahahahah you totally get my thoughts laven be extreme all you want).

-Angst anon

0.7k word response to this and previous ask of angst anon <3

prompt: imagine childe having a sensitive darling and the darling is like has a past and when they met childe everything changed. One day childe received a mission from tsaritsa and this mission requires childe to get close to someone for him to get the info so he decided to charm the daughter of his target and yeah that's where he cheated. And the reader saw it, the reader decided to confront childe at the scene but at that same time childe almost got his info.

You could withstand the cruelest blows onto your body, whether it be unwanted love or the neglect that comes with the mood swings of your captor. What you couldn’t stand was another woman. You knew from the start that this wasn’t love but for Childe to get up and return home with notes of sweet perfumes on his collar, embracing you with faux words while charming another, it makes your head spin.

You may not have drank any alcohol in ages, but you sure could get drunk on this jealousy. Being trained by the Tsarita made your escape from Childe’s confines easy, you had just chosen to be broken by him yet he wanted a new toy? No fucking way.

You decided to hell with the obedient demeanor, breaking out from the mansion into the late chills of evening, dressed to kill. Knives concealed under your garments, you entered the venue of Childe’s night, adorned with chandeliers and individuals dripping in luxury. Flashing a smile at the Fatui guards and brushing past with the full confidence of the rightful lover, you blended into the crowds of politicians, nobles and elite.

No stranger to the scene, your eyes scanned the room while holding a flute of champagne before landing on the double-crosser and his scarlet letter of a mistress. Controlling the urge to smash the dainty glass in your hand took the steeling of your nerves as you crossed the dancefloor, anger boiling hot under your skin with each step towards the pair, acting like ditzy love-birds, in front of you.

“I hope I’m not interrupting. You seem to be having a wonderful time with your paramour.” You punctuate your sentence by splashing the drink down Childe’s front, soaking the man in the liquor with a cold face. All the watchful eyes of the hall stare as the drama unfolds, though you simply couldn’t care less. If they wanted a show, you would give them one, starring Childe as the unfaithful bastard.

“What the fuck are you doing here, y/n?” Childe hisses with a furious look, though it just makes you sarcastically laugh at his anger, viewing him as nothing as a wet dog that got caught with its paws dipped in mud. “And what are you doing with this lovely miss?”

With your lips curved upwards and an indignant tone to Childe’s misfortune, his patience snaps from your aggravation, though he sends a placid smile to the woman before dragging you off to the exit. “That was my fucking target and I was just about to be complete before you rudely interrupted me! Why the hell are you here and not at home?”

As if unable to hear Childe’s heated words, you smile undisturbed at his rage and draw a knife from under your sleeve. “So, you’re mad I caught you red handed with that girl? She’s so important to your mission?” You twirl the blade before placing it dangerously close to your throat, directly against the essential veins.

“If she’s that special to you, I guess I’ll just die, how about that, Childe? Did you not fucking think of me when you were seducing and screwing her? Did you think I’d wait patiently for you while you two-time? On Tsarita, you really are a fool. Do you think you can live without the consequences of deceiving me? I will paint your hands red with my blood and watch you from beyond the grave.” As if to prove your point, you graze the sharp edge against your skin, letting blood pour with a composed face though your voice trembles in pitches of seething fury.

Childe may have held you in his arms or watched you attentively to the delusion that he loved you, you knew better. The man had never let you near weapons and never even seen you bleed, so his agape expression of panic further fanned the flames of your temper. “Better yet, why don’t we die together, Childe? We’ll see each other in hell.”

Can you tell that I’m crazy and that I love Amy Dunne <3 I left it an open-ending (but reader might have a sneaky gun in their hand hehe....) so either Childe manages to calm them down???? But his mission is fucked anyways and so is their broken love <3
