Hey there! Totally get where you’re coming from, and I appreciate your curiosity. We were worried we might’ve been a bit gatekeep-y about the font. So, here’s the scoop: We’ve been active in the emoji community for quite some time, even before creating emojis ourselves. When we decided to make wordmojis for our friends, we wanted a distinct style, something that screams “us.” So, we went on a really long hunt (like, 2-3 days long) of looking at and comparing fonts by style, readability, size, and public opinion.
The thing is, we wanted something recognizable, especially for when we started sharing our creations. And while there are tons of amazing, unique fonts out there, we needed one that felt uniquely ours and ours alone.
Plus, there’s this thing with some of our other issues (which I won’t delve into) that triggers a bit of paranoia about being replaced. So, yeah, we’re just a tad uncomfortable with someone using “our thing,” you know?
But hey, in the end, it’s just a font, and I can’t exactly stop anyone from using it. If I do spot someone using it for emojis, I’ll kindly explain and even help find alternatives. If it doesn’t change, we’ll handle it in other ways. Easy peasy.

What are you gonna do if your font goes mainstream on emoji Tumblr?/ genq
I already asked on your side blog, but I figured it'd be better to ask here
We have enough hope the emoji community is respectful enough to understand the boundaries but if not, we'll take our own actions
The guilt of the font decision while paranoid is getting to me :| I feel like I shouldn't have changed it and should just delete everything related to the new font
