Tf2 Headcanons - Tumblr Posts
I have no words for this...
Just a simple pull don't mind me
I made this.
This shit cool ngl
Yes demo is falling off. Idc.
headcanon
Medic’s doves, let me tell ya. The tf2 verse has always been excessively goofy, so I always imagine that medic’s doves are more affectionate than any bird could ever be: Rubbing against him like damn cats, ruffling his hair, messing with his glasses, exploring his pockets, soft dove kisses (rapid light pecking that feels like teeny little taps), an entire vocabulary of coos that only medic understands, a tendency to follow him everywhere, crying when they can’t find him, always preening on him and floofing their feathers everywhere, perching on the curtain rail when he takes a shower (literally the whole bar is covered in doves patiently watching their pa bath), somewhat protective behavior, cuddling, and much more lovey dovey stuff
Ok so a lot of people treat Pyro like a kid, which isn't bad, a lot of the other mercs and Miss Pauling talk to Pyro like they are a child. But I have a idea,
Pyro thinks all the other mercs are their children and sees themself as a mother or babysitter. Because of Pyrovision, it comes off very different and mainly violate in real life, but Pyro just thinks they are talking care of their babies.
This is mainly because of his meet the team video where they see everyone as a baby and also how it feels to play Pyro by LazyPurple.
Thank you of coming to my TedTalk.
This is just a silly little headcanon don't take this too seriously
"I'm only valuable when..." of TF2 mercs
Personal mental stereotypes they follow, yet will never admit aloud. An analysis:
(Headcanons but I tried to be as compliant as possible)
Scout: I'm only valuable when people see me as cool and tell me that I'm cool... 'Cuz that means, it must be true...
(Constantly comparing himself to everyone, barely knows his true self, struggles to be alone)
Pyro: I'm only valuable when I have friends to care about! If there's none... It's so cold and lonely...
(Fear of abandonment? Fear of betrayal. Urges for revenge)
Soldier: I'm only valuable when my community needs me! I am all about loyalty and faith!
(Strongly identifies with the place or beliefs he belongs to, constantly feels threatened.)
Demo: I'm only valuable when people find me fun to be around. As soon as it gets sad, everyone leaves.
(Numbing his emotional pain in substances because he has no idea how to handle it, especially since these emotions push people away time and time again. Feelings of helplessness.)
Heavy: I am only valuable when I can protect people. Although I understand, when people are able to stand for themselves, it feels like my purpose is gone...
(Being protective is his identity. If he's not a big human shield for the people he cares about, who is he?)
Engineer: I'm only valuable when my ideas become reality. While I'm still alive, my mission in life is to make as many creations as I can.
(His work is more important than his personhood. He's the Engineer first, Connagher last)
Medic: I'm only valuable when people need very specific solutions to very specific situations. Let's say, some of these situations were also a work of mine.
(Too genius of a mind struggles to fit into the "normal" flow of things. Extending what's possible.)
Sniper: I'm only valuable when I'm useful. When my help is irreplaceable. Otherwise, why am I even here?
(Struggles with "fitting in" and finding a community/genuine connections. Doesn't believe there's anything to him besides his work)
Spy: I'm only valuable when people can look up on me, when they admire me and want to be like me. Or, otherwise, when they hate me and believe that I'm the only cause of their suffering. It's never too much when it comes to praise.
(Extremely fragile ego)
hey since you’ve posted two pieces in a row about my boy Scout I was wondering if maybe you could write more your thoughts/your hcs about him? I think he’s really interesting and I don’t often see people realize that he’s more complex that what he seems, like this man just seems very sad inside. i really like your analyses and your takes are some of my favorites
hope you have a good day!
Appreciate it! Although I probably won't say anything particularly new... Okay, let's talk about Scout!
Though he no doubt wears the persona of a confident cool guy, protecting his ego from vulnerability, I wouldn't say there's sadness inside him. More accurate would be fear.
People with sadness baggage are pretty passive and quiet. And Scout's reaction is to hit, run, scare away, cling anxiously to the object of security. That's fear. He's fearful.
He doesn't think about it much, he's a pretty happy guy in the environment he's in. But if something makes him go off the rails and he starts, God forbid, thinking.....
His core fear is not living up to his place in the world. He knows there's a place for him, but for some reason he feels like people think he's not good enough to take it. Anyone better and stronger could take his place at any time. He's on bird's rights here.
Growing up with older brothers, being not good at school, being the smallest and youngest mercenary of the team, this feeling doesn't leave him ever. It's a tiresome inner struggle: "How do I make my stay secure?", "How do I become worthy?"
Falling into this cognitive trap of searching for self validation in the outside world instead of inside of himself, he was doomed to be stuck in ambivalence:
To continue to pretend, risking being exposed as an imposter, or to be sincere and inevitably endure the unbearable pain of rejection and loneliness?
He laughs and taunts and overexplains himself so much. He clings to the only thing he's better than everyone at. He overcompensates; he demands attention and tries to make himself bigger. He hates being alone as it basically feels like being actually pushed off his place in the world. He clings to people but immediately pushes them away for being too dangerously close to finding out his fears. He needs to be with everyone to know and to control what they think about him.
And it never makes him calm down anyway, since all those efforts take a lot of energy. Tiresome to be, tiresome to pretend. And the prize is nowhere near the sight.
This loop of pain will never end, unless he breaks the very core mindset of his. The answer is stepping into this fear, but he can't even think about it! It feels like death! His ego will die and it's going to feel like he's dying as a whole.
A full existential, primal fear of an child to be rejected by his parent. "Not worthy of living".
(Based on the Lise Bourbeau's model of 5 soul wounds: Abandonment)
"Just a bunch more biblical paintings then I'll go back to drawing yaoi" Or you can do both, renaissance style, Michelangelo or Raphael I honestly forgot who drew those naked men on the Sistine Chapel's ceilings ok bad joke aside: I'd love hearing more about your headcannons, specifically about the childhoods of the characters (ranging from the mercs, to Miss pauling, the Administrator, hell anyone you have ideas about!)
Childhood headcanons... How did you know I've had something about that on my mind? Alright, let's talk about...
Little Sniper
(Lots of trigger warnings ahead, check tags!)
Mundy was obviously an unhappy child. When I imagine the surroundings he grew up in, I see miles and miles of empty landscapes, dry yellow grass, unkept barns destroyed by rust and a deep choking sense of loneliness.
The closest neighbour woul be so far away you better bring a bicycle with you if you want to visit. School and Church were the only places to go, which were also very far away. No kids his age nearby. And even if there were peers at school, no one wanted him anyway.
Mundy was "weird", he didn't quite understand other kids' jokes, didn't get what was so fun about what everyone else enjoying to do; he was weaker, always loosing in close fights; he didn't even look very local for whatever reason. Even if he tried to get along with someone, it either ended up with him being ostracized or with him experiencing the greatest boredom imaginable. And the kids quickly picked up on his "difference", making him an object of bullying.
It started with making fun of everything Mundy does, his habits and speech patterns, his morals and ideas... Which wasn't anything too big for him but it was still very annoying and upsetting, he grew to hate school very quickly.
Coming home being exhausted from this kind of socializing, no one would really comfort him. Being very little, he used to tell on his bullies to his parents, telling how hurt he was by their words... And it would only made a mess in his family.
Overreactive mother: "Poor baby, I'm so sorry, I'll tell their parents to stop being mean, my little little baby, maybe we can go homeschooling..."
And a strict father: "Are you a man or what? Yeah, he will end up a bloody baby if you keep spoiling him like that! Suck it up! Of you can't stand for yourself, no one will. At this pace you'll end up a nobody, with no home nor respect from the world".
Mundy didn't want to be neither a baby nor a disappointment. He figured that sharing his feelings with parents wouldn't be that good of an idea, they won't understand anyway. And also that he must fight somehow.
If he can't win in close fights, he thought, he could hit them from a distance: throwing small rocks at the bullies from up the tree...
–He was punished for that. For some reason, every time Mundy fought back, he was scolded by the elders, who for some reason always believed the bullies that HE was the one starting the fights. They forbid him to fight back. He closed his feelings shut and stopped paying attention to almost everything around him.
Why was it like that? Why was he so different from other kids, why couldn't he understand them? Why couldn't he understand anyone in this world? The world was a mess of unspoken rules and suffering, overcoming oneself, pain; he couldn't fit in. He was always on the wrong even if he didn't do anything. He felt like an outsider everywhere he went.
Sometimes he wondered if he was born into a wrong family or that he wasn't a human at all. Looking at the night sky, he was thinking about aliens, maybe they would come to him someday and take him to the planet he truly belongs, being accidentally swapped at birth. Maybe then he will be happy, he will leave this sickening place and finally start living. He thought about dying, too.
He started to spend a lot of time in the forest any chance he got. He was alone here, unwatched, somewhat free. It was easier to breathe here. He was alone but it didn't feel worse than being with those people. He played by himself. He started to believe that he actually liked loneliness.
As Mundy and his peers grew older, the kids started to become more and more savage, thanks to the hormones and age crisis. Bullying intensified as those kids started to feel the need to assert themselves. Mundy was maliciously beaten (he fought back as much as he could and even win sometimes, but the beating only got worse each time). They used any chance to humiliate him.
And each time after that Mundy would take the knife or his father's shotgun and go to the forest to take his anger on animals, "hunting", since he couldn't do anything to fix the root of the problem.
He would hunt for something small, like birds or feral rabbits so he could butcher them and cook on fire to eat. At moments like this he felt like a beast, and somehow it was the most pleasant state for him to be in.
There were no words available to form his pain into, so the pain came through violence. The more violent his abusers became, the more violent he was at his "hunting". The more he felt his father's gaze piercing him with disappointment, the sharper his knife movements would get. Sometimes he would let the bodies to just rot like that, completely butchered in a very non-culinary way.
(Maybe someday he would lure one of those bastards to the forest and kill him the same way and blame it on an animal attack)
And at some point... His classmates would came up with something that would cross all the lines of forgivable. Somewhere there was the peak of what they could do. Something beyond.
There wasn't a known way to him to deal with that. No known words. Everyone would be so grossed out of him if they knew. He was beyond disgusted with himself, too. What was the point of living now?
That day he would shot a wild boar, take his machete out and cut it open, butcher it the way his father would when they wanted a pork dinner for the night... And reached to its heart.
The heart is where the love is stored, right? That's what people say when referring to this "love" he'd never seem to know. A dark read bloody organ that feels like sponge inside of thin rubber. There's something about this that Mundy lacks. He has a heart too, it's pulsating inside him, but for some reason it was unable to produce the "love", a very necessary fluid for a human body. He wondered if it's sweet. He wondered if he was even able to taste it.
He took a bite... And realized what he was doing.
He was, indeed, a monster.
When he went back home, later than usual, he would be met with his father's gaze. He was always throwing gazes, for every occasion, Mundy was used to feel small and guilty under them. But this time... It felt somehow much more personal. More disturbing.
His father looked at him as if he was a dirty little creature, a rat, a maggot. He looked at him the way one would look at a criminal who wronged their whole family. He looked at him like he knew.
His father didn't say anything that day and it wasn't brought up ever again.
Mundy was indeed a monster who was utterly terrified of this though. He didn't want to be one. He made a promise to himself that everything he does will be morally justified, he promised himself to become a good... decent person. He would earn his place in the world, even if his father, everyone else denies it.
It gets blurry at this point. Sniper doesn't really remember his life before about 17, when he was finishing school and starting to work on his sniper licence. For some reason he always knew he would be good at shooting and killing. When remembering his home, Sniper would recall the smell of grass, mother's cooking, the warm sun, and a steady life he had. He knew it was boring, but it still somehow felt like home. Home he felt was lost somewhere he didn't remember.
Either way, he was always a loner.
idk if youve done it yet but i would actually lose my mind if you did an analysis for demo
Aye aye captain 🫡 Time to overdramatize again!
Let's address Demo's wounds
(Demo's backstory was changed through the years but I'm sticking to the older version because I find it more grounded)
Demoman's story is easily one of the most tragic of all the mercs. Imagine you have been abandoned from birth, your parents simply rejected you for what you are. But luckily you have been adopted by some good people who replaced your parents and made you a relatively happy child.
And then you accidentally kill them. You're 6 years old. How does that feel?
I can't even imagine how a child's brain can't comprehend the idea of being a murderer. It was an accident, of course, they were blown up by a big explosion he created (genius kid found out how to do that, huh?) but still. His parents were dead and he knew it was his own fault. He learned he was dangerous as he is.
How was it like pondering about it in the orphanage?.. "I didn't want this! I want to go back and fix it, I'm so sorry", something like that. But he couldn't go back in time, so being covered in such an avalanche of guilt, he learned he needs to repress himself.
Demo have always had an explosive temper (no pun intended), it was his true nature, pure emotion: if he's happy, it's 100%; if he's angry, it's a full blown storm. If he loves, he loves with all of his heart, and he has a big one.
Living on the impulse, all or nothing, that crucial accident revealed that letting his true nature go will only end up as destruction in the end. Irreparable damage.
We don't know what exactly was happening to him during his orphanage years, but if I'm to guess, repressing everything about him: his interests, his character, his whole nature, was a thing to choose. He thought that he had to become still and quiet as to not to repeat that kind of tragedy ever again. He probably didn't have people to be friends with either, either because people rejected him for his past, or he avoided them himself due to his internalized shame, at least that's a guess.
But everything repressed returns to the surface sooner or later. As a child, living for so long under overwhelming guilt, grief, hate, pain and sadness, under the skies that are almost never sunny in a all-year-long damp and coldness of the Ullapool. Incomprehensibly grey. It was depriving.
He was always fascinated with explosions. He didn't touch it for a long time, but maybe something like seeing fireworks again one day made something inside him tremble... And to remember.
Explosions. Launch... Acceleration... Release. And every time the release happens, his soul fills with excitement, the body feels lighter and shivers go up the spine. Release happens inside his head too, for the explosions make his worries and pain go away for a moment.
He couldn't find another way to release his bottled up emotions, so gradually he returned to make explosives again.
It was something like an addiction. Similar to pyromania, except no one bothered to research this one. At the moment of explosion he could let his anger out, he could scream, he could run around freely, he could sense heat in his chest; he could be himself. As he once was.
Everything was cold. But the explosions were hot.
He thought it was under control, just a little bit of KABOOM after school, but he craved more and more every time, more vivid, more violent...
That's how he lost his eye. (...Was it a subconscious act of selfharm?)
The missing eye was a forever reminder of how deviated he actually was. He learned that he couldn't repress or change what he truly is - a monster. A Black Scottish Cyclops, wether it were his peers who called him like that or he himself, out of misery. There was indeed something seriously wrong with him.
It seemed like the only thing he was capable of is destruction. Destruction is the only environment he's comfortable with. Peace was always so anxious and depriving, and breaking things felt calming, so he figured it must be right.
And then his birth mother came and took him back, "now that's he's a worthy DeGroot". It was unexpected but... Pleasant. So he wasn't THAT worthless after all, huh? Turns out, it was really familial, the destruction thing. At least he found out that there was a reason behind all of this.
His new mom was, saying honestly, pretty cruel with words. She was not at all gentle, she was very strict, demanding and straight up abusive. It was never enough for her no matter what Demo did. She didn't want results from his work, she's just always wanted to mess with his brain.
And for whatever reason... This setup felt right for him. To be thrown around like that, to be humiliated harshly, it felt fitting, it wasn't causing anxiety or anything. He has to be a scapegoat, he had to forget about being a child and to start working as an adult, at the same time somehow replacing a father he still didn't have, but it felt good enough. Confusing relationships felt good enough.
Destruction was his habitat, and his heart could no longer accept anything else.
Cruelty wasn't warm though, just familiar, just an environment to not to go insane. But he craved warmness so badly... Yet every time he would get close to someone and receive a little gentleness and care, it would feel sickening. It felt unnatural, it reminded him of his lost parents and of everything that's wrong about him.
The only warmness his body could accept was alcohol, making him bubbly and comfortable and relaxed. He almost felt normal, happy even. Alcohol heat made him melt, and he felt so fulfilled as if he was in paradise, back to the womb.
Yet after the effect wears off, he feels lonely as ever. Quickly, existing without alcohol becomes pain. Existing at all. He became an addict.
Not that everyone he met rejected him, rather, he subconsciously reached out to those who would be cruel to him. Again, gentleness hurts wether he knows it or not. He's only good in destruction.
Lonely and clingy, ready to overshare, overall mess yet carrying a big baggage of love that has no one to give it to. Maybe because he can't give it to himself in the first place. There's so many issues unresolved because he can't handle them alone, yet there's no one to help since he was already trapped in a closed circuit of self sabotage.
He will keep acting like a party beast, always crazily emotional and overdone upbeat, a simple drunken man who will not be taken seriously that way. Maybe that's what he wanted, to not be seen as deep by anyone for not be reminded of his misery once again.
Seems like we bought that too.
...
The enemy Soldier might be an exception though. The man he really treasures his friendship with turned out to be an enemy; repeating the rule again: it's only acceptable when dangerous. Soldier deeply cares for Demo, however he's not gentle or pitying, he's as destructive and explosive as Demo is, and these two are a very rare perfect combination of destructing each other in the act of love. Both broken beyond repair, soul on soul, forever to be misunderstood by the outsiders. This is something about this relationship that looks like a golden lining.
They will not fix each other, but they sure are going to have a good time!
TF2 Mugs
Because I can't stop thinking about their daily lifestyles!
Scout's one is a limited edition Benny The Rabbit™ cup, "high quality plastic", he says, "can hold cold AND hot drinks... NO, IT'S NOT FOR CHILDREN, Benny is clearly a cartoon for adults!"
Pyro, surprisingly, didn't make their mug themselves (they have problems at the "firing" part) but instead this one was obtained at the local thrift market. Pyro loved this one silly handmade clay mug so much and, not quite understanding how money works, they put on the counter a sum worth the salesgirl's entire year's work.
Engineer, apparently, doesn't use things (in this case, mugs) that he didn't make himself. We asked him why, expecting him to not trust the quality of mass market or something but it turned out to be much funnier: when something is not at hand he makes it himself, and then he loses this self-made one too, and the cycle repeats itself. There are several of these mugs lost on the base apparently...
Demo's mug Is a party mug! You can never know what's inside!.. Yeah no, of course you can. He got this one from that time he hanged out with hippies. It was all fun and chill and groovy until Demo mentioned where he works. Got kicked out immediately. Hurt, he took this mug with him as a revenge move.
Despite being otherwise tidy with everything, Medic never washes his mug. He says that the periods when there's no coffee inside are too short to pay attention to them. He also said that we should stop sticking our noses in his "abfalleimer". (Hold on, isn't it a beer mug..?)
And the Spy's cup is the most interesting... He never uses it outside of his room, no one saw him drink out of anything but glass. But this one is a starry tea cup. Why are there stars? Does it mean anything? Maybe there's a metaphor that he's far away but the bright star will always show him the way home... Someone is always waiting him behind the seven seas, someone who would pour him some tea in this cup... We will never know because when he found us breaking into his room, he kicked us out at the gunpoint.
(I want people to talk more about what the mercs' life on their base is like, more detailed headcanons about them being neighbours and stuff like that...)
I wanted to let you know that I absolutely adore your artwork and your "Anomaly Diversion" fic, and I sincerely hope you continue it.
I understand that it's a huge undertaking to write something so detailed and beautiful, and there is no pressure for you to keep going if you can't, but I just wanted to tell you how much I love your work <3
This made me tear up... I feel so seen.
I really appreciate that you see how it is, indeed, very hard... But it's worth it. I've recently started making a Miro board for it (so I stop forgetting stuff...)
I'm not in a very good place of mind right now which prevents me from working as efficiently as usual, but I'm working on it. Slowly but steadily. Thank you so much for checking </3
I couldn't draw much lately but here! Take these unfinished pics of a fic concept I was trying to explain lol

CAN WE BE FRIENDS (I LOVE THESE HCS)
Do u have any tf2 headcanons IF SO TELL PLEASE
Helloooo! Of course, but what kind of headcanons?:'^)
PART TWO!!!
OKAY WHERE DID WE LEAVE OFF
OKAY RIGHT
- HEAVY AND SCOUT ARE SO BROTHER CODED
- scout used to having older siblings like immediately clings to heavy for any form of normalcy when they all start out. and Heavy, used to being the older brother and a protector or sorts, absolutely takes the role on without much thought
- there is so much to say about their dynamic but I cannot find the words to describe it they are so so special
- scout definitely perches on heavy’s shoulders just whenever, whether it be for a split second in battle to tell him about something up ahead or to use him as a springboard; or just when they’re having calm days at the base and he wants to talk to someone
- immovable object vs unstoppable force type dynamic. scout is quick, fast on his feet and is the type to think while acting, so he sees no problem with charging headfirst into danger and making up a plan while adapting to his surroundings. For as well as this works, it doesn’t always work well when needing to plan as a team. So heavy is usually the one who is able to chill scout out, usually by blocking him from running or just grabbing him and then suggesting he hear out the others first
- scout has trouble with reading and that much is obvious, and it’s mostly accepted among the fandom he can get a little embarrassed by it. heavy 100% understands the frustration of words not making sense, seeing as English is not his first language and he isn’t as proficient in it as he is in Russian—so he goes out of his way to be patient with scout and makes sure he doesn’t feel undermined by his attempts.
- I think heavy being into literature and scout being dyslexic has a lot of potential for their bond. heavy being very cool headed for the most part out of battle while scout is very hyperactive in and out of battle also has a lot of untapped potential!!
- Heavy kinda acts as a rock for scout. He’s patient and willing to explain and talk things through without making Scout feel like he’s being belittled or something of that nature. I think that heavy keeping a cool head is what kinda helps scout level out his temper, since he starts to mimic the behavior of others he’s with (possibly a thing picked up from spy shh).
- that being said, on the battlefield they absolutely are hectic together. scout thrives off the emotions of others and seeing heavy thrilled and pumped over bloodlust and fighting reflects onto him. I think scout always ends up circling back to heavy to provide support if he isn’t the one getting the intel.
- they workout together. heavy goes on jogs with scout just because scout doesn’t like doing it alone and scout will do weight lifting with heavy in return and ramble about Tom jones and try to get heavy to translate the songs into Russian.
- and!! Of course!! Never forget that Heavy thinks scout is funny!! A lot of the mercs do actually!!
- anyway they’re bros :)
- Demo and Scout are such a fun duo and I want more art of them being silly
- I think with scout being very passionate and openly emotional with his manner of expression is something he can get very embarrassed about if others react negatively to it; which is why he likes talking with Demo since Tavish is almost as equally expressive and passionate in his outward appearance.
- they both tend to exaggerate their words and stories which is why I totally see them as regarding the other as one of the more “fun” mercs, because they can keep up with one another.
- demo slurs his words and so does scout and they both talk fast, so there’s no need to worry about slowing down!!
- on a more intimate perspective; I can very much see scout confiding in demo a lot since demo would be the type of person to take him more seriously than others. demo knowing what it’s like to not be believed and brushed off, i think he’d make sure scout knows that he is always listening 100% and will believe what he tells him(even if it’s really outlandish).
- also, scout likes drinking with demo. I dunno what to tell ya. he just does. demo is loud and emotional and scout loves that, because he too is loud and emotional. and demo won’t treat him like he’s stupid.
- demo is totally the type of person to open a bottle, see scout staring and then offer a sip. scout almost always hates what demo is drinking and will get his own alcohol (usually some type of whiskey mixed with soda) but he will always try whatever demo has, even if he knows he hates it.
- I can see their type of affection for one another as being insults and just listening.
- Scout is very touchy and will lean or hang onto demo, and demo being touch-starved and even more touchy will welcome this with open arms.
- OKAY SO CONTROVERSIAL OPINION?? I see engie and scout dynamic as being very mixed.
- of course they care about one another; but I see this dynamic as being both very loving but also having a lot of miscommunication.
- like, yes I could see scout seeking out a father figure in engie, as I both love and hate this idea. however I do regard scout as the type of character to not want a father figure.
- I see scout as seeking validation from others, especially those in higher positions or those he looks up to—even more so if they are masculine due to the lack of a father figure in his life. But I do also think he would be the type of person to realize if he was subconsciously regarding someone as a father figure and immediately attempt to distance himself from that person out of fear of being hurt and just plain discomfort.
- so while I love the dynamic of engie being somewhat of a dad figure, I do think if that dynamic were to happen it would take a lot of time and communication.
- that also brings up the fact that part of me wonders on whether or not engie would really take scout seriously. now, I love engie, I do, but he is very much two-faced in the sense that he puts up a front. That doesn’t mean that he isn’t as sweet as he can come across, because I do believe he very much cares for others, but I am just unsure on if he would view scout the way scout needs and wants to be viewed.
- I can see him very much regarding scout similarly as he regards pyro. By that I mean more as having the mentality of a child. Now, I one hundred percent support him encouraging the “childish” interests of Pyro and Scout, but there is a difference between understanding that and believing something else entirely.
- Engie knows that both Scout and Pyro are adults, and obviously he can and will treat them as such. I do believe that he can understand them in a way that others may not, and provide a familial like comfort for them. (Scout’s inner child desperately needing comfort and Pyro probably being in a similar boat.)
- but I don’t think scout would appreciate that “comfort” all the time. he absolutely craves attention and validation and comfort, but he doesn’t want to be seen as a child for wanting those things. I can see him both clinging to engie and also pushing him away rather quickly.
- he wants that comfort but he wants to be seen as an equal too, which is where I believe miscommunication could fall in on both sides. I’m not sure how well I’ve explained this idea, but yeah!!
- I think they’re good friends but their relationship needs a lot of work before scout really trusts and relies on engie without it feeling very surface leveled.
- ANNNNND NOOOOOWWWW spy.
- oof ah okay, uhm. I struggle a lot when it comes to spy and scouts dynamic, both because I love spy but I also despise him. as a person with daddy issues i tend to flip flop with their dynamic.
- i want to say scout and spy have a good one, and for a good portion of the comic and videos and stuff they do!! but i do wish more of the trauma scout suffers from an absent parent was explored.
- I so so so support scout and spy making up and rebuilding a bond, but i also think scout deserves the right to be angry and unforgiving. I may be bias since there is the very likely chance that spy left due to work and safety of his family (but then how come he can connect his lover safely but not his kid?).
- scout i 100% believe was very lonely growing up despite the fact he has seven older brothers and a doting mother. he may have felt very isolated being the youngest, and still being in a household full of kids, he probably didn’t get as much solo attention as he needed growing up. he acts out in search of attention and validation, which comes across as very annoying and rather childish to others at times.
- I know that spy very much cares for scout and looks out for his well-being, but i think it’s also valid to point out that he can be rather cruel to him as well.
- not to say that scout is any better when it comes to politeness, but scout genuinely seems to actually look up to spy. I find it unfair to say that scout hates spy or spy hates scout, because it isn’t true.
- I think spy may act harshly towards scout out of fear of getting too close. He doesn’t want scout to be hurt. He doesn’t want scout to be disappointed in him. He probably hates the way they share similar habits or have the same eyes, because he doesn’t want scout to be like him. And he doesn’t want the reminder of the kid he wasn’t there for. And scout is very much the same way in acting harsh out of fear. They parallel one another.
- Scout knows spy is his father, he just doesn’t want to accept it, and I believe it’s out of fear. He doesn’t want to accept that truth because it will bring to light something he doesn’t want to confront. He doesn’t want to break what respect and care he has for spy, and he doesn’t want to push him away. But also the fact that spy doesn’t bring it up, may leave scout believing spy would be disappointed or even hate him for being his son if the matter came to light.
- basically, both of them care for one another but are very much terrified of that care.
- but I also think scout deserves to get angry without his feelings being diminished. he deserves to punch spy in the face and then get a nice hug.
EXTRA
- scout and miss Pauling are dork gossip besties, that is my favorite interpretation of them.
- scout and the other scout would just vibe. similar households but also major differences. both are goofy, love their teams, and need therapy.
- i love the interpretations of biromantic asexual scout and aroace scout. I think either way he deserves love whether it be romantic or platonic, but always always deserves to love himself.
- very much an asexual scout supporter!!! I just get those vibes from him!! like feeling like he has to exaggerate his desire for a relationship and stuff because that’s what’s expected from guys his age, right? CUE SELF DISCOVERY AND SELF WORTH!!
LOVING your scout thoughts. Tell me more im sitting and listening and kicking my legs back and forth and giggling like I'm on the phone
BRO SHDHSGSHfaHWGSGS FOAMING AT THE MOUTH
Okay okAY I have like so many headcanons for Jeremy Scout and like my own interpretation of the other scout I couLD GO ON FOR DAYS
Anyway!!! Dynamics!! ‘M gonna talk about that and just,,, stuff about scout I like and headcanon,,,
- scout is a lot smarter than people give him credit for and I will fist fight anyone about that. he is smart intelligence wise and emotional wise.
- I see a lot of scout having ADHD; which I believe 100%, but I do believe he is also autistic. I don’t see a lot of people bringing up that idea, but as a person with autism, he just gives off the vibe.
- also scout slurs his words together because he talks too fast. everything he does is fast. so sometimes he needs to be reminded to slow down a little.
- I love love love the idea of scout and pyro being bffs, and not like the same way scout is bffs with sniper. I mean like in the sense they kinda get each other without really getting each other. They’re both underestimated and perceived as less than their worth (both being babied and seen as dumber than they are at times)
- they are both childish but not children! they can color together and make comics together and scout will collect rare plushies to trade with pyro because they cAN HAVE INTERESTS THAT ARE DEEMED CHILDISH WITHOUT BEING CHILDREN
- and I don’t care what anyone says!! pyro and scout hold hands and scout does not mind because it helps pyro keep themself grounded!!!
- pyro and scout will go to one another if the other can’t sleep and they’ll just watch crappy movies and giggle and half the time they don’t even talk they just enjoy each others presence
- scout and sniper are the friends that one talks and one listens. they are best friends in the sense I think scout treats sniper like how he treats his brothers
- scout will just gangle himself around this jungle gym of a man because it is fun and there is a primal urge to climb anything tall. sniper is desensitized to it and will just let scout do whatever.
- like sniper is the friend that scout feels comfortable enough to let out all his stims and stuff around. he could just doodle on sniper, fiddle with his fingers, yank his hair, touch his face, bite his hand, and sniper will just allow it because he knows scout doesn’t even really think about doing it, it just happens. he won’t tell scout to lower his voice or slow down, he just lets him go wild, y’know?
- scout and soldier are two of my most favorite characters and they are both so so loving and I need more people to realize this!!!!!!
- I saw this headcanon (I forget by who) that scout got his dog tags from soldier and it is like my favorite things.
- scout and soldier, I don’t see their relationship as brotherly but more like closer than friends, they have a kinship that can’t be explained by words. like they’re good friends where it’s almost brotherly almost mentor-y, but it’s not.
- I think scout looks up to Soldier while also thinking he’s an utter buffoon. Like he thinks Solly is so cool and so amazing but he’d never say that, cause Solly is insane and oblivious to a degree. Despite this, both Solly and scout are so emotional in their own ways and I think that’s something they have in common. They’re both intelligent but not in ways that is conventional.
- also of course they both beat each other up but I think it’s more of like just a thing they do. Solly going after scout i could see as a form of “cuteness aggression”, in the sense that he cares about this silly guy so much he doesn’t know how to handle it.
- I think Soldier just picks up scout in a fireman carry just because he can and then scout tries and fails and Soldier just keeps encouraging him
- I don’t care what anyone says; Soldier is scout’s number one supporter even if he sounds aggressive in his positivity
- “KEEP IT UP MAGGOT!!! I BELIEVE IN YOU!! LETS GO TWINKLE TOES!! ONE TWO ONE TWO!!”
- I could go on about these two for days they are such goobers
- MEDIC AND SCOUT IS JUST A SILLY DYNAMIC AND I LOVE IT
- they’re both silly guys and both have weird fascinations with pain. the guy who wants to explore it in a sense of science and the guy who doesn’t think twice about it before charging headfirst into it. they’re besties.
- “medic finds scout annoying” “scout finds medic scary” NO!!! THEY’RE BESTIES. medic adores scout since he’s the one constantly volunteering to be first for the experiments!! heavy is the first volunteer? NO ITS SCOUT!! Scout volunteers for all the experiments!! Helpful and just for fun ones!! and he’s in perfect shape and age, so why wouldn’t medic deem him as the perfect test subject???
- both medic and scout have a flare for dramatics and absolutely adore rambling. you cannot tell me they wouldn’t talk all the time. scout will pace around the lab as medic does work and just ramble about his day, his thoughts, any ideas for experiments he has that he thinks Doc could pull off.
- I can see both scout and medic as the type of people who just cannot sit or stand still for more than a few minutes. Medic can handle it better, but even he gets restless being still.
- I love both the interpretations that medic loves touch and the interpretation that he hates touch. I see it more as medic adores touch in the sense that he must be the one to initiate it or on certain days he feels more touch adverse. With this in mind I believe that scout is very similar in the sense he loves touch but also can really hate it other times. So I like to imagine that they just y’know poke at one another :)
- I like the idea of them being bros that acknowledge their equal desire for comfort from touch but also the occasional adversity of it. So I think they’d do like platonic cuddling and stuff just because
I WILL DO THE OTHERS AND THEIR DYNAMICS WITH SCOUT IN THE NEZT POST BUT I MUST EAT
rating tf2 ships instead of doing English because writers block part 1: SCOUT!!
1. Scout/Pyro (Flashfire) - 10/10
honestly? love this ship. mwah mwah. I think these two would have a unique build up to a relationship. Scout being intimidated at first by Pyro (then realizing Pyro is actually pretty chill), and Pyro genuinely wanting to befriend Scout because he’s funny and pretty.
I see Pyro as being able to keep up with Scout’s hyperactive nature, but also being able to coax out a calmer side. Scout has trouble understanding his own emotions and expressing them (being very emotional and fearful of what others may think of him for that) and pyro is very patient and loving. They’re both chaotic, loving, expressive, and have a need to be understood and not disregarded by assumptions.
I see pyro as being very open to physical touch, but won’t actively initiate it. I think pyro would prefer quality time and acts of service. their main love language being gift giving and quality time. scout on the other hand I could see preferring quality time and physical touch (but having to be the one to initiate it), but would outwardly express words of affirmation and gifts.
Whenever I think of these two I think of their relationship being very soft. Yeah they’re chaotic and dangerous, but I can see them being very soft with one another. Scout talks a lot and Pyro listens. Pyro talks a lot and Scout listens. I think their relationship wouldn’t be established for a good while, until Scout one day just asks if they’re dating or not while they’re cuddling and watching some action movie.
I think they’d have stupid nicknames. Well on scout’s part, I don’t think pyro would make nicknames. Scout would still call them mumbles, chucklehead, and other stupid stuff, but he’d say it in a very affectionate way.
Pyro would definitely without thinking link their pinkies together when they’re near one another. It flusters Scout every single time, without fail. Scout uses flirts and pick up lines and Pyro is unaffected by them(though finds it hilarious when Scout trips over his words). If anything, they find scout’s attempts funny but prefer when he’s just being real and down to earth, rather than trying to “puff” himself up, and when he seeks out Pyro for comfort and touch. Whether it just be to hold hands or lean on.
2. Scout/Soldier (All American Offense/Batting Helmet) - 7/10
I’m kinda unsure how I feel about this ship!! I give it a high rating because i think it could be unique and these two would definitely be fun together. I’m not sure if I could ever see them being in an established romantic relationship, but I could see them being in a close relationship which isn’t exactly anything labeled.
Unlike flashfire I can see their relationship being very hyper rather than soft. They’re both reckless and loud which definitely leads to both of them making bad decisions which Spy or Demo have to get them out of. They’d definitely bond and strength their relationship over their love of adrenaline. Both, Soldier and Scout are so SO loving, and I definitely think they’d put their all into a relationship and both constantly try to impress the other. Especially on the battlefield, I can see them yelling for the other and going ‘did you see that?!’ Or ‘that was for you!!’ kinda thing. You kill one of them? Within seconds you’re killed by the other.
I do think their relationship would be a bit rocky at times due to miscommunication on both sides. Soldier and Scout tend to run into things without thinking, making plans on the go, and misinterpreting things. If they were to establish any sort of partnership they’d have to work on communicating. Both of them would have to work on not only their communication skills but also their emotional responses to things. Both of them are very prone to emotional outbursts/irritation which they’d have to work on.
However! It’s evident both mercs are so loving and aware of others emotions. I think in a relationship, Scout would stop making joking insults which Solly wouldn’t understand, and would ask Solly more questions about himself rather than his stories. Of course!! Scout and Soldier would 100% bond over stories of crushing people’s skulls, and be so hyped to hear about the other’s experiences. However the curiosity towards him as a person and his interests other than war I think would startle and slightly scare Soldier at first honestly.
Overall I think they’re relationship would be very fluid and interesting to work with. They’re love language would be far from conventional: wrestling/physical fighting(not out of anger), and not outwardly ‘romantic’ tendencies. I don’t think they’d be the type to be touchy or have flowery words. On their own I think both of them could be physical and loud with their affection but together I think it would be more of a casual thing. Maybe an affectionate pet name thrown in an offhand sentence or remark, or a gentle guidance towards a different decision. I can’t see them full on cuddling, but rather being near one another and leaning on the other. At most maybe Scout putting his head in Solly’s lap or running his hand through Solly’s buzz cut.
I do think that as hyper as they’d be, they would have very sweet moments on ceasefire days. Whether it be resting/sleeping in, cooking, or just talking and playing cards. I think with simple daily activities the more soft “intimate” side would be drawn forward. I don’t think they’d ever refer to their relationship as romantic, but I don’t think they’d stop someone from assuming they’re dating, y’know?
3. Scout/Demoman (Hop Scotch) - 10/10
Similar to All American Offense, I don’t think these two would put a label on their relationship. I think it would more be like they’re aware of how loving the other is and how strong their bond is as a friendship, and just acknowledge they love each other; whether it be fully platonic or not.
Demo with his desire for touch and Scout with flippant touch adversity and desire, I think they would definitely be one of the more sweeter duo and outwardly affectionate. They’d be more willing to show physical affection in front of others, like hugging, kissing, cuddling, those kinda things.
Scout would be so excited to learn about Demo’s culture and it would be oh so sweet. Demo is patient and more than happy to share his Scottish culture with any s/o he has. He shares cultural dishes while Scout shares dishes his ma used to make. For both Scout and Demo family means a lot, which is something I think would definitely strengthen their bond, along with both of them being openly emotional and willing to share their issues with one another (of course that would take time).
Demo willingly hearing out Scout without making him feel stupid and Scout listening to Demo’s turmoil and validating his feelings. I definitely think their relationship would work since I imagine Demo actively reminding Scout that he sees him as an equal and doesn’t look down on him at all. Which helps since Scout is very self conscious. In return, Demo is equally self conscious and struggles with self image, which Scout counteracts by constant verbal affection and being able to talk Demo through it. I think they’re relationship would lean very heavily into verbal and physical affection. Demo finds it funny whenever Scout hypes him up. Scout in term gets really embarrassed when Demo says anything sweet to him, but also determined to show off.
I see Demo as being open to physical contact and craving it, but always makes it obvious and asks if he can touch Scout before doing so, something Scout appreciates immensely. That being said, I do think that with Demo, Scout would be very more physically affectionate compared to some of the other ships. I just see them being a very go with the flow relationship which leaves Scout feeling more than comfortable with touch when it comes to Demo. Anyway they’re really cute and sweet and both deserve love and happiness and I wanna see more of them.
4. Scout/Medic (Blunt Trauma/Quick Fix) - 10/10
Hands down, I adore this duo. They’re absolutely adorable and love mediscout shippers. I went over their duo a little bit in a few posts ago, but I love the idea of both of them being equally fascinated by the other.
Scout always being the first to go see Doc and volunteering for experiments. Medic being enthralled by how healthy Scout is and finding him beautiful, both inside and out. I think this duo has a lot of potential, especially with metaphors and love that goes deeper than what is associated with the term. Their relationship could be very poetic. I do think these two would start off with a very awkward relationship, and this sense of awkwardness never really leaves it which adds to their charm as a duo.
I think it would start with Scout developing a bit of a puppy crush, finding Medic handsome and amazing in terms of skill. Scout being outwardly very awkward and loving (constantly following medic to infodump and talk about anything and everything just to get a convo going) and getting flustered by Medic who could just be standing there. Medic in turn I think would pick up on the little crush scout has and find it endearing but not think much of it. More than willing to talk to Scout about his ideas and thoughts, but never thinking he’d regard Scout in a romantic manner. I don’t think Medic would realize he had feelings for Scout until someone pointed it out. Engie says to him how he gets a fond look in his eyes and his entire demeanor just softens. Which gets Medic thinking and he just goes ‘oh shit’. Once the realization is there, I think Doc would become equally as or even more awkward and nervous than Scout. He’d still ask scout for help with certain things or lion for him to make conversation, but he’d fumble with his words more and be more mindful/careful of how he handles the other in surgery.
Anyway they’d probably establish their relationship through the help of others, which leaves Scout asking bluntly and awkwardly if they could establish something and Medic agreeing. From then on it’d be a bit more smooth sailing. One of the only issues I could see them running into a lot of times could be fear for the other. Medic fearing Scout getting so hurt that even he couldn’t heal him, or Scout somehow hating or failing out of love. Scout on the other hand would fear Medic dying rather than getting hurt and the idea of doc ever finding him annoying rather than endearing.
Both of them having issues with touch, some days loving it and other days hating it, i think physical aspects of a relationship like any sort of touch would be very special and a huge sign of trust. Whether it be Medic studying Scout’s heart or Scout gently rubbing under Medic’s eyes.
They would have cute nicknames for one another and I think their relationship would be very sweet and poetic.
Overall I love their dynamic and want more soft stuff of them. (Plus the idea of the man who outsmarted the devil being with god’s gift is SO hilarious to me.)
5. Scout/Sniper (Speeding Bullet) - 7.5/10
Honestly? I think they’re cute but similar to earlier ships mentioned I don’t think these two would ever put a label on their relationship. It’s not my favorite but I’m not against it, the art of them is adorable.
I’ve mentioned before how I believe their friendship is finding freedom and normalcy in the other which is something that would stay in any relationship they have. I don’t think they’d change anything about the way they interact with one another even if they were officially dating. It would still be very laid back and loose in a way.
I don’t know if they’d do very romantic things, maybe a few chaste kisses and laying on the other as a weighted blanket, but otherwise i can’t see them having a very touchy relationship. I think in terms of romance their bond would be: feeling so much love and fondness for another person and being okay with it and not wanting to change the relationship beyond what it is.
They find freedom in the other and just kinda go with it, y’know? I can see them more being a QPR than a standard romantic relationship.
For the last few:
Scout/Engie and Scout/Heavy
Personally I can’t see either relationship being romantic or anything other than platonic. I think scout sees heavy as an older brother and Heavy views scout as a younger brother, and it being unable to go beyond that.
On the other hand for engie, I just personally can’t see engie with many people. I’ve always regarded engie as aroace, which while he could have a relationship, I can’t see him actively seeking or desiring one. Plus I’ve mentioned before how I think engie and scout would have a rather rocky-unsure relationship which would need heavy communication.
Overall!! Scout is so loving and deserves love!!
I’ll do the next merc later!!!

YESSSSS I LOVE THIS
Who Is Scout's Ma?
She's a character we know extremely little about, however when you stop to consider the IMPLICATIONS of what little we DO know, things start to get interesting:
1. She lives in the roughest part of Boston ("if you were from where I was from, you'd be dead") but dresses quite elegantly.
2. She had 8 boys, all of whom she raised BY HERSELF, and yet somehow she finds the time to maintain this impeccable appearance.
3. Scout clearly loves and admires her to a point where it's one of the few things he'll drop his "tough guy" act for, and dialogue in the comics like "Ma's gonna kill me if she finds out" implies he also still fears her disapproval, despite being a fully autonomous adult.
4. Spy, despite what he likes to pretend, is clearly head-over-heels for her. He even had her likeness engraved on his fanciest gun! (Note the distinct hairband & hoop earrings) For a man who avoids attachment to the point where he never lets anyone see his face, that's an unusual degree of infatuation.
5. None of Scout's brothers left Boston while he was growing up, despite a few of them presumably being adults by then. Not only this, they were still all getting into fights together, implying they were both continuing to live with or near their mother and brothers, AND had reasons to brawl with others beyond just some adolescent street scuffle.
My Theory:
Scout's Ma is the matriarch of a Boston-based crime family.
It explains her elegant appearance, how she and Spy were able to meet, why their bond clearly goes beyond a one-off fling, why she was able to be in Scout's life so much despite the financial burdens of being a single mother of 8, and why all of said 8 were continuing to get into fights with other locals. They weren't just some street gang, they were enforcers. It also explains why/how Scout got into mercenary work, his many mafia-themed weapons, and why he continues to fear her ire even as an adult.
Plus, take a look at this unused angle of the last photo from Meet The Spy:
You'd THINK a single mother from the rough side of Boston wouldn't appear so in-her-element on a fancy date with The Spy, and yet her appearance and demeanour here just SCREAM "confident and in control."
Scout's Ma is Boston's Godmother, and I desperately wish to see someone draw her as such.
