"Where's my favorite niece?"
Bruce called out as he entered the lavish Stark home. He was asked to watch Alex, last minute, as everything was with Tony, but it hardly surprised him. Not to mention, he didn't mind watching Alex, ever.

He chuckled and picked her up holding her against him.
"You've gotten big how old are you now, 6?" he asked knowing full well she had just turned 7. Still it was a playful question she would surely answer.

"Uncle Bruce!"
Alex ran full-speed through the halls jumping at the man’s legs, arms tight around them. When her dad said babysitter, he didn’t say her uncle.

"Well of course they do," he said with a nod, "You're the smartest young woman I've ever met, and I've met some rather smart women."
He carried her into the living area and sat her on the couch, "What's your teacher like, she's not mean is she? I'd hate to call the hulk on"

She scowled, sticking her nose up in the air.
"Seven, Uncle Bruce. I’m in second grade now.” The girl said in a matter- of-fact tone. The glare slipped away quickly and her eyes grew wide. "They want to move me up a grade!"

"You know you're the only girl in the entire world for me."
Bruce was sly, still playful but partially honest. He knew the Hulk would do anything to look after the young girl but he didn't trust him around most others. Even Tony might not have been safe, especially as he lived to press his buttons.

She shook her head, giggling and sitting up on her knees with a small bounce.
"No, she’s very nice. She’s been giving me third grade math because she said I was too advanced for what everyone else was doing in class. I think you’d like her, she’s pretty.”

He couldn't help but grin at the small girl in his arms. She was perfect to him in every way, precious even.
"Oh darn. Way to break my heart Alex. Tell me, what would you like for dinner tonight?"

"Uncle Bruce, I’m only in second grade, and besides, Kyle asked me out already.”
She crossed her arms, giving him a serious look. It was probably a joke. She knew by the way he smiled it had to be one. But for the record, she’d set him straight.

"Well, if it's the good kind how can I say no to that? I'll make us Mac and Cheese, and we can watch Shrek. Green guys are the best after all."
He gave her a sly wink and moved towards the kitchen.

The girl giggled.
"Don’t worry, I will find you a girlfriend. Oh, can we have mac and cheese? Pepper got the good kind.”
A wide smile spread across her face at the thought, and she licked her lips.

"I certainly hope so. Or I wouldn't be doing my job right at all. I have to remain your favorite."
He moved towards the kitchen and easily found the mac and cheese, starting a pot to share with the 7 year old.
"So tell me more about this Kyle who asked you out. Is he as smart as you?"

"You only say that because Hulk is green. But that’s okay,”
She sat up on her knees and leaned over the back of the couch, lowering her voice.
"Green is my favorite color."

He sighed at the sight of her pout.
"Princess, you're more like your father every day, and I find myself frustrated, but that is no fault of your own. I'm sorry I got impatient with you."

"That’s a first for me, right?"

"No, you bother me however you need to. I am supposed to be on your side. I'm sorry I was upset with you."

"It’s alright, Uncle Bruce. I should know better than to bother you like that,” she shrugged, looking guilty.

"Is something wrong, Princess?"
There was worry written across his features, caution in his voice Alex had always been, would always be dear to him. He still saw the young girl he'd cared for when he looked at her.

"Well that’s good, that you’re on my side… cause I think I need your help…”
She pulled her bottom lip between her teeth, chewing on it nervously.

Bruce sat for a moment, before he nodded to the girl before him.
"I'll do my best."
It was all he could promise. But the last time, Alex had said anything like that to him, it had not boded so well. Not that Hulk had, or ever would hurt that young woman, but none the less it concerned him.

If there was one thing she was aware of, it was the possibility of her confession bringing out his alter ego. But, things were getting out of hand now.
"It’s my boyfriend… He’s uh… Look, you have to promise to try and stay calm, okay?”

The only change was sorrow taking his features as he stood and moved towards her.
"My sweet girl, why didn't you tell me sooner? How long has this been going on? Have you tried to leave him?"
He avoided the questions he wanted to ask, like if she wanted him dead. Though somewhere in the back of his mind he knew Hulk was itching to find the boy and tear out his throat like a vicious dog,

She nodded and took a deep breath. Better now than later…
"So uh, I’ve been with him a couple years now, you know. But I’ve uh… well he… he’s kinda been abusive…”

His hands found her shoulders in a gentle grasp. He wanted to, and needed to assure her.
"I am on your side, Princess. You ask, anything, anything at all and I will do my best to ensure it happens. I will keep you from harm, you know that, don't you?"
The beast clawed inside of him an insatiable hunger, one that Bruce was uncertain he could tame.

"I-I did. He wouldn’t let me…" she mumbled, turning her gaze to the floor instead.
"Almost since the start. I wanted to tell someone, but I was afraid of what would happen if he found out.”
He was already upset enough that she had been to the hospital, and that had earned her more punishment. But telling Bruce that, and the idea that it might be the breaking straw for the Hulk, made her keep her mouth shut.

"So you're telling me there might still be a chance for me yet," he said giving the young woman a playful wink.
"You're young, boyfriends will come and go. Once you get older you can find a much less annoying one. A prince fitting for a princess like you."

"No. None of the kids are as smart as me. He plays football. Last week I beat him in a game of dodgeball. I hit him in the head with the ball, and sort of knocked him out. I think that’s why he asked me out. Boys are really weird.”
She wrinkled her nose and and shrugged, still watching him as he made dinner.
"I don’t think I’ll date him long. He’s kinda annoying.”

"Come here, Princess."
He took her in his arms, tucking her head beneath his chin and running a soothing hand over her back. He had no children of his own, but Alex was as close as he had. To see the girl suffering so broke his heart.
"I'll find a way to keep you safe. I promise you that."

Alex nodded, shaking out of an unrealistic fear the he would walk through the door and know what she’d said.
"I just wanna feel safe again. I don’t want to be afraid of going home, or having someone walk through the door and lose their temper with me, when I’ve done nothing wrong… and I don’t know how to make that happen now, Uncle Bruce.”
By the end of it all she was in tears.

"No one will hurt you again."
He held her tight and securely. He knew better however, than to say anything to Tony. If he thought Hulk might tear the boy apart he feared to see what Tony might rashly do, or worse say to Alex. She needed a quiet support.
"I won't let anymore harm come to you, you can trust me."

"He’ll come looking for me," she mumbled against him, clinging tightly. It was the safest she had felt in months, and Alex didn’t want to let go of that feeling. "He’s going to find me. He’ll hurt me again, I’ll have to go home with him.”

"I'll get you a hotel for the night, and I'll make room for you at my place. It's not ideal, but it'll work for now, and most importantly I'll know you're safe for now."

And she did trust him, more than anyone aside from Tony. He’d always been there, and now was no exception. He was there when Tony had failed to be.
"Do you know somewhere I can stay? I don’t wanna go back to him.”
"Help me. Take me away from here,"

It had only been one night. One night since he'd last seen the girl, since he'd gotten her a hotel and had a long talk with Hulk. One night and everything had fallen to pieces.
When he arrived at the hotel to pick the girl up, she was covered in fresh bruises. He was glad nothing seemed broken, even with her crumbled, crying on the floor. He said nothing as he scooped her in to his arms, only murmuring an, "everything will be okay, Princess," as he carried her into a cab, and took her home.
He felt pity for the girl, and anger for her. The clawing feeling returned inside of him, and he knew he would eventually give in to the Hulk and let him tear the boy limb from limb. That he wouldn't ever let anyone touch her again.

He opened the door to his crummy apartment and carried her in, setting her on the couch as he moved to make tea, "Stay here, I'll make you something to calm your nerves."

Dani and Alex always make Bruce happy.Dani makes hulk happy too.
Bruce would probably give up living if he lost Dani. Leaving only Hulk to carry on. Without Bruce’s desire Hulk has no purpose

"They’re my everything."
"I won’t leave you." He murmured quietly as he brought her a cup of chamomile tea. "Not alone, not again, not ever again. I’m so sorry I left you, Princess."

"Why don't you drink your tea, and then take a nice hot shower. I'll get you something to wear. You can take my bed, and I'll sleep on the couch, no one will bring harm to you."
He reached for his phone and sent a text to Dani. As he stood, "I'll keep you safe. No matter what."
