"Come here, Princess."

He took her in his arms, tucking her head beneath his chin and running a soothing hand over her back. He had no children of his own, but Alex was as close as he had. To see the girl suffering so broke his heart.

"I'll find a way to keep you safe. I promise you that."

Alex nodded, shaking out of an unrealistic fear the he would walk through the door and know what she’d said. 

"I just wanna feel safe again. I  don’t want to be afraid of going home, or having someone walk through the door and lose their  temper with me, when I’ve done nothing wrong… and I don’t know how to make that happen now,  Uncle Bruce.”

By the end of it all she was in tears.

Bruce closed his eyes and sighed. It had already begun, Tony was working hard to push button, but Dani was quite capable of handling herself. 

He couldn't seem to bring himself to truly chastise Tony for his poor behaviour but nor could he ignore it. "Drinks maybe? I think it might help us unwind a bit, though I can tell the ice doesn't need to be broken at all."

Dinner and a Show

"There must be something we could do.  Something to fix this, 800 people, Natasha.  I took 800 lives."

"No, Natasha. I caused this, my carelessness caused this."

"So you're telling me there might still be a chance for me yet," he said giving the young woman a playful wink.

"You're young, boyfriends will come and go. Once you get older you can find a much less annoying one. A prince fitting for a princess like you." 

"No. None of the kids are as smart as me. He plays football. Last week I beat him in a game of dodgeball. I hit him in the  head with the ball, and sort of knocked him out. I think that’s why he asked me out. Boys  are really weird.”

She wrinkled her nose and and shrugged, still watching him as he made dinner.

"I don’t think I’ll date him long. He’s kinda annoying.”
