The Missing Flask - Tumblr Posts
[A gifset of Sam Riegel and Laura Bailey on the set of Critical Role, with appearances by Taliesin Jaffe and Matthew Mercer. Taliesin is generally uninvolved and looking at his notes, unless otherwise specified.
1. Sam, as Nott, is holding something out to Caleb and saying, “Here, identify that.” Laura whispers to Matt with her hand cupped around her mouth, “While Nott is distracted with that-”
2. Continuing from the previous gif, Laura finishes, “I’m going to try to grab her flask and put it in the haversack.” Sam sits beside her with one arm up on the table, bent at the elbow. His index and thumb rest against his face, with the remainder of his hand obscuring his mouth. Upon hearing her, he turns away, eyes narrowed and cheeks rising in a hidden smirk.
3. Matt responds, “Make a Sleight of Hand check.” Laura begins to pick up a die to roll. Sam, attempting to appear nonchalant and unaware, keeps his hand pinched and resting against his mouth. He steals a glance at Laura’s dice tray, raising an eyebrow in anticipation before quickly looking elsewhere.
4. Laura’s hand lingers in the air from rolling for a moment, lowering to the table as she leans forward to inspect the die. After a moment of scrutiny, she sucks in air through one side of her mouth and shrugs her shoulder, apparently less-than-impressed with the result. Sam, apparently involved in other conversation, leans in to check his notes, taking a sidelong glance at Laura’s dice as he does so.
5. Laura silently responds, “Twelve,” sitting back in her chair, a sheepish, uncertain smile settling on her face. Taliesin almost appears to see her answer, turning from his notes just as she speaks and looking in her direction. Sam does not seem to react in any way; he is looking down at his own notes and does not see Laura reply.
6. Sam and Laura are both leaned forward, looking at their respective notes. Matt asks, “Nott, what is your passive perception?” To which Sam replies, “Passive perception is…”
7. “…Ten.” Sam looks up at Matt from his notes with a carefully neutral expression, one eyebrow innocently and only-slightly raised. Beside him, Laura stares at his notes. Upon hearing the result, she turns to Matt with a sly smirk, quickly masking it by rolling her tongue over her teeth underneath her lips. At this point, Taliesin is involved with other conversation, completely unaware of their discussion or of Laura’s secret rejoicing.
8. After Sam’s clarification, Matt responds, “Okay,” immediately and quickly winking at Laura afterwards. He looks to the other players with nonchalance, absentmindedly rubbing the fuzz of his goatee with his index finger.
