before nesta even knew her own name, she knew that she was a witch; one of many first born daughters in the archeron bloodline to be blessed with a myriad of powers. in each generation, the eldest daughter inherited the powers of all the ancestors who came before her. nesta's abilities were nurtured by her mother and grandmother; so much so that it seemed to many that she was favoured by them, but they were also the people who broke her spirit. because of their treatment of her she was unable to take any pride in her potential as a child – instead she kept her magic to herself, and became alienated from her sisters in the process. so much so that when her mother passed away, and her family lost their fortune, nesta couldn’t even muster up her connection to the occult in order to keep her sisters alive. it had fallen to feyre to hunt for them, to provide. one day when her youngest sister returned from the woods she sensed a change in her energy and had been able to instantly recognise that she had been turned into a vampire. a hatred of the undead was another thing that had been instilled in her as a child, and she barely slept for weeks after noticing the change in feyre – nor could she touch the endless amounts of food the new vampire had begun to bring home for the family. when she noticed the change in elain weeks later, nesta thought she may never recover. and she knew she couldn’t survive in the cottage a moment longer. she left a letter for her younger sisters, explaining that she knew their secret, and telling them her own. but they were unable to follow her; finally her powers had kicked in and she was able to shield herself… able to get far away from her home and afford to start a new life for herself.
over the years she has kept tabs on her sisters, and has kept herself young, too. at 300 years old she barely looks a day over 30, but trying to find a cure for vampirism is taking a toll on her internally. she spends her time doing spells and creating magic weapons for a price – a mixture of money and intel from clients with histories as interesting as hers. but she’s no further forward.

it’s rarely nesta’s intention to sound judgemental; it simply laces it’s way into her words. the witch lifts an eyebrow at his response, but says no more about the blood stains. it isn’t the first time she’s seen him bloodied ( in fact, he’s definitely looked worse ) and she knows it won’t be the last. she focuses her silver gaze on his and simply tilts her head to one side, beckoning him to follow her into the house he already knows he has access to. he’s the first and only vampire to have received an invitation into her home. she can protect herself, but she isn’t interested in finding out if she’ll need to - nor is she interested in the tediousness of reinforcing protection spells after the fact. but she’s known damon for long enough to know that she’s just as valuable to him as he is to her. in any case, most of their deals are better off done in private.
“ i'd offer you a snack, but i’m guessing you’ve already had one? ” there’s a hint of mirth in her voice as she leads him into the lounge. if she lies to herself, decides that his meal was somebody who had it coming to him, it’s easy for her to find some amusement in the reality of what his survival means. nesta leans against the edge of an old dining table, littered with candles and an assortment of ingredients for spellwork, and sets her sights upon him once again. her features remain neutral as she watches, but there’s a slight rise and fall in her chest before she speaks. “ there have been whispers of a new vampire family in town. four females, three males – have you heard the same rumours? ”
