Does anyone know what year The Witch Boy graphic novels take place in? It’s never officially stated and I can’t find any information anywhere.

Ariel’s foster parents have a home phone, but as far as I know those aren’t to common nowadays. Although, Ariel’s foster family could just be part of the small percentage that still uses a home phone. The only thing that makes me think this is not the case, is the fact that we never see any characters in the series use a cell phone.

I would normally think that this takes place in the 90’s after looking everything over, but a timeline issue comes into play when talking about Charlie’s parents. Charlie has two dads and gay marriage wasn’t legal until 2015, so it’s weird that nobody is shown to use a cell phone, yet gay marriage is legal.

I might be reading too far into this, and it could probably be explained by just saying that people just don’t use their cellphones, or that it takes place in a world where things happen differently. I just wanted to see if I could place a year on it.
