Things I Enjoy Writing - Tumblr Posts
Thanks for the tag! This should be fairly obvious to anyone who’s read my writing hehe~
1.) Friends to lovers. It’s probably because I’m aromantic, but I want, no, I need my characters to care about each other before they fall in love, unless I’m writing a doomed romance. I’d like to experiment with rivals to fuckbuddies to enemies in future…
2.) Urban fantasy. I love using magic and mystery to spice up the dull monotony of this world.
3.) Trauma and mental health. Art should disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed, and that’s something I take to heart. I’ve had people tell me that they’re horrified by the things I depict in my work, but I’ve also had people tell me that they feel seen and that they can relate to the nightmarish struggles my characters have faced.
4.) Hurt/comfort. I’ll never get tired of writing that one specific trope where a traumatised character is shown kindness for the first time and they don’t know how to handle it so they back off like a skittish rescue animal.
5.) Queer experiences of any kind, but especially aro/acespec experiences. There is nowhere near enough aro/acespec representation out there, and I’m fixing that problem by writing it myself. (I’ve never seen a canon demiromantic character in mainstream media, and that’s partly why Nathaniel is demiromantic…)

Thank you for the tag @aziz-reads (x) to share the top five things I enjoy writing about! 😄
Queerness! In all shapes, sizes, and types - there can never be enough queer stuff out there!
Self-discovery. Characters realising that actually, they don't have to stay in the box society has created for them. They can step outside it and be who they want to be!
Toxic masculinity. I could go on a rant about sociology here, but I'll spare you. Needless to say, as a trans man I have a very specific interest and enjoy playing around with it in all its forms.
BDSM and kink. It's a great way to explore characters and their insides (both figuratively and literally 😝)
Monsters as queer-coded metaphors. Love me some of that!
