you stormed into the classroom, textbooks almost falling out of your arms. you quickly scanned the room to see if snape was there… and of course he was there.
“um, good morning! i’m sorry for being late” you blurted out, walking over to your friends.
“what was it this time, miss l/n?” snape grunted, his eyes piercing your soul.
“the stairs” you mumbled, ready to shuffle over to mingyu, your friend. the slytherins snickered at your answer and snape stopped you with a tsk.
“miss l/n, since you’re late let me enlighten you. you’re doing a pair project on brewing felix felicis. and since you’re late you’ll be working with…” snape paused dramatically, looking for someone who didn’t have a pair “… mr xu”
“oh that’s just bullshit” seungkwan hissed, crossing his arms. dokyeom gasped dramatically.
“mr boo, i believe it is my task to pair students. if you’re disagreeing with that, you’re disagreeing with me. which means…” snape stopped, leaving the conclusion to seungkwan.
“just you wait until we tell soonyoung or seungcheol” kwan whispered to you. your older friends will be outraged as well, that’s for sure.
“move to your partner’s desk, miss l/n” your professor ordered and you gave last pleading look to your friends and slowly moved over to minghao, a fellow slytherin.
“poor y/nnie…” mingyu sighed.
it’s not like you personally hated slytherins or had a problem with minghao and his friends. it was your friends who didn’t like them (especially the gryffindors – seungkwan, soonyoung, deokyeom and chan). the main reason of your fear was purely your social anxiety and separation from your friends. and, well, the fact the slytherins were slightly intimidating. you heard they were gossiping about your friends and merlin knows if they weren’t gossiping about you either.
as snape started his introduction to felix felicis, you stood next to minghao. your fingers anxiously played with the hem of your book, avoiding eye contact.
minghao sighed, regretting his friends were older than him (which meant they had different classes right now). well, he’ll just complain about it later. suddenly he caught minnie and shuhua, his slytherin peers, looking at him playfully.
there goes discretion.
“cat got your tongue?” he asked out of the blue, causing you to look up. you shook your head, trying to figure out what to say. hi i’m y/n? how are you? the weather is nice today?
“no” you said softly after a short while “i’m just listening”
“oh? you always seem extra chatty during potions when you’re with those half bloods though” minghao smirked, looking at your friends. you did the same.
seungkwan made a gesture of cutting his throat, which made you scoff.
“but i’m assuming that’s good you’re listening for once. because don’t you dare mess up the position” the dark haired boy’s voice made you turn around slowly, eyes widening “what? felix felicis usually takes up to five months to brew and i wanna get it done as soon as possible”
“oh” you mumbled. minghao fell quiet too, noticing the crease between your brows. suddenly you nodded, sending him a soft smile “i see. i’ll try my best”
you started taking notes of what snape was saying. minghao though, was surprised.
you were so… gentle. no snarky comments that’s he’s a mean, bad slytherin.
that was refreshing, to say at least.
after the class came to an end, you closed your books and said a quiet goodbye to minghao, rushing to mingyu and your other friends.
“how did you even survive?” seungkwan laughed, side eyeing the slytherin boy that was passing you by.
“hey! it wasn’t bad! he’s nice!” you frowned, following your friends’ tracks and going to find the others.
minghao smiled softly upon hearing your words and went to find his mates before the gossip reaches them.

all the potion classes so far were… peaceful. you worked mostly in silence. but not in awkward silence. his presence was comforting to be around and your gut told you that he’s feeling the same way too. minghao never really give you snarky, mean comments. well, maybe towards your friends or directly at them when they were staring. but never you.
somehow, you weren’t late for the today’s classes. in fact, you were even a little earlier. with no sight of your friends anywhere near, you leaned against the wall and grabbed the book you were currently reading.
lost in your world, you didn’t notice that minghao arrived. he was looking at you with curiosity and even wanted to approach you, when jun showed up.
“oh, i’ve been looking for you!” jun called suddenly, causing you to jerk in surprise. you noticed the two slytherins, wondering when they arrived here.
as you slid down the wall and sat on the floor to continue reading, the boys started talking.
“what do you want?” minghao asked calmly, his eyes still glued to you, a soft smile forming on his face when he recognised the book you were reading. jun turned around, smiling playfully and swinging on his feet.
“are you coming to the three broomsticks this weekend? you didn’t answer jeonghan when he asked you” jun hummed. minghao nodded, shifting his gaze to his friend “good. because we have a lot of things to talk about”
“what do you mean?” minghao grunted and jun just wriggled his brows. the younger punched him, causing jun to squeal.
“okay, okay! you need to start meditating again” jun chuckled and managed to duck another punch that was coming his way “okay! i’m going! have fun!”
minghao just rolled his eyes and once jun was gone, the doors to the classroom opened.
“since you’re here already you can come in” snape announced and disappeared again in the dark classroom.
minghao walked up to you and reached his hand out.
you looked up, closing your book. as a confused frown painted on your face, dokyeom, seungkwan, mingyu and vernon appeared in the hallway.
“don’t make me wait” minghao mumbled coldly. you sent him a warm smile and grabbed his hand. he pulled you gently, helping you stand up.
“YAH!”
you didn’t turn around, you whose voice was that (dokyeom’s). minghao though, tilted his head slightly and send a small smirk to your friends.
“thank you” a hum left your lips and the slytherin nodded, going into the classroom.
mingyu ran up to you, grabbing your face.
“are you okay?!” he yelled out dramatically, causing you to giggle.

the progress on your potion so far was amazing. it had the right consistency although there was still a lot of work ahead. not to mention your bonds. you didn’t even notice when you started getting along and becoming closer, chatting more and more during the lesson. you discovered that you two have a lot in common and in fact, minghao isn’t that bad as your friends think. he’s pretty cool once you got to know him and above all, you enjoyed his company.
while he was chopping something, you turned around to grab one of the ingredients but in process your wand fell on the floor.
you leaned down to grab it, cursing underneath your breath at your clumsiness. minghao put his hand on the corner of the desk, scanning carefully if you’re not gonna bump into it.
luckily you didn’t – and even if you did, you would bump onto his hand and not the sharp corner. you straightened your back and met vernon’s shocked (frightened, even) gaze. as you turned around you saw minghao taking away his hand and coming back to work. his face was the same, not showing any emotions and simply unbothered.
as blush crept up on your cheeks, you came back to work. suddenly you heard some whispers.
carefully looking around you noticed minnie talking to shuhua, glancing at you.
“did you see that?”
your stomach dropped, your hands starting to sweat. what did they mean by that? but you didn’t do anything… right?
“why did he do that?”
you didn’t even hear when minghao asked you something. you stared at the desk, mind racing with thoughts.
sudden touch on your shoulder made you flinch, your eyes flicking over to worried minghao.
“are you okay?” he asked quietly. letting out a shaky breath, you didn’t realise you were holding, you nodded “you’re a terrible liar”
“isn’t that a good thing though?” you asked with a smile, trying to calm down. minghao scoffed and you took a glance at minnie.
“hufflepuffs…” he mumbled and saw you’re looking away. when he met his friend’s gaze, she stopped gossiping and started working again. minnie’s eyes were locked on minghao’s hand on your shoulder. he took it off, realisation hitting him “i’ll talk to her”
“what? no! what do you mean?” you panicked, tugging his sleeve. this caused his eyes to widen. well, not only his but also your friends’. you cleared your throat and took your hand away “i mean… it’s nothing”
“sure” he grunted angrily, returning to his previous task “don’t mess up the potion”
you but your lip worriedly, nodding slowly. great, you made him angry.
when the lesson ended, you grabbed your stuff and left the classroom. he probably thinks you’re weird now. and what was gonna minnie think about you? it’s not like you wanted to get her in trouble. it’s just…
“yah, y/n!” minghao’s voice made you turn around. you stopped in the middle of the crowd, someone bumping over your shoulder.
seungcheol happened to talk with your ravenclaw friends - joshua, jihoon and wonwoo. they were probably waiting for you to finish your classes since after them you were supposed to go to the three broomsticks. however once seungcheol noticed minghao is bothering you, he was ready to intervene.
you blinked at the slytherin boy as he approached you.
“did i say something?” he asked quietly, aware of your friends watching.
“no! it’s just…” you trailed off, trying to find a way to word your worries without sounding like a weirdo. he’s friends with minnie after all. minghao was waiting patiently “you don’t have to talk to minnie. she was just chatting and i… i guess i was just overthinking. i didn’t want to make you mad or something….”
he scoffed.
you know that it was an amused scoff. seungcheol however, thought it was making fun of you kind of scoff.
“hey, minghao! don’t you have better things to do?” your older friend called, walking over to you. jihoon rolled his eyes.
“none of your business. i’m not talking to you, you filthy–“ minghao stopped in his tracks, looking at you.
“don’t call him like that” you mumbled, sending him a grumpy look “and you, cheol, can you give us a moment?”
“no, it’s fine. i won’t say a thing to minnie, if that’s what you want” minghao grunted, sending seungcheol an angry look. then, shifting his gaze towards you his features softened ever so slightly “and i wasn’t mad at you. i was mad at minnie. but anyways… see you soon”
he walked away, disappearing in the crowd of students.
“what the fuck was that?” seungcheol growled. he wasn’t too happy to find out that you’re working with minghao and now that you seem to be… talking to him? he has a bad feeling. well, not only him.
“it was a normal conversation” you sighed and saw vernon, mingyu, seungkwan and dokyeom coming your way.
“oh my god! did you see that?!” seungkwan yelled out, catching the older’s attention.
“what? don’t even tell me it was something bad, i wanna beat him up already” soonyoung crossed his arms. suddenly chan joined you, making the group complete.
“he–“ mingyu started and you just walked up to the ravenclaws, joshua linking his arm with you.
“they’re overreacting, aren’t they?” wonwoo giggled upon seeing your annoyed look.
“they so are! he’s not bad! they just… didn’t get to know him. i don’t get the slytherin hate” you grunted “not all of them are bad, right?”
“right. it’s just that… you have to be careful. they’re overreacting, i agree, but we don’t want you to get sad” jihoon hummed
“why would i get sad?” you furrowed your brows. the three of them exchanged suspicious looks. joshua shrugged with a playful smile.
“in case cheol beats him up or something” wonwoo sighed dramatically. upon hearing his name, seungcheol skipped over to you.
“pfff… he’s so not going to beat him up. minghao knows material arts! isn’t that so cool?” your eyes lit up and you let out a squeak when seungcheol playfully punched your arm
“i would defeat him in two seconds!” he grinned goofily, causing you all to burst out laughing.

three months passed and you’d consider minghao your friend. at this point, you see each other every day. not only you have potions together but also transfiguration, defence against the dark arts and much more. you were always so focused on sticking to your friends that you never really realised he’s there. one day minghao even sat with you during history of magic since mingyu and vernon sat together – of course later on soonyoung gave you a lecture about running away if it happens again in the future. you didn’t. – and it stayed like that. even during other classes.
that’s how you ended up getting your first detention. you were trying to keep quiet but he was just telling you a story when jun fell asleep with his eyes open in the school corridor and scared the living shit out of filch.
“mrs l/n, mr xu! you can always go on a date after classes. mind telling us what’s so funny? or maybe you’re just so ahead with the book that you don’t have to listen during my lessons?” flitwick asked, causing you to freeze. you looked at the man, nodding politely as your cheeks turned red. minghao, however, wasn’t impressed.
“well, actually–“ he started, causing you to kick his ankle under the desk “ow!”
“actually what, mr xu?” flitwick rose his eyebrows. you felt the whole class gaze on you two, causing you to redden even more. you hate being in the centre of attention and minghao was certainly having the fun of his life.
“actually i’d love to present the spell we were just talking about. y/n explained it to me lately” minghao shrugged and your eyes widened.
“what are you–“ you started, unable to finish because–
“aqua eructo!” minghao waved his wand happily and you let out a yelp upon water landing all over your head “oh shit–!”
his smile faded away upon seeing you drenched in water… and the rest of the class being soaked.
so that’s how you ended up cleaning it without wands (“because it would be too easy, right?”)
“what were you thinking?” you laughed, wiping the floor while being on your knees.
“i just felt like showing off…” he giggled, looking over at you
“but?” you smiled, wiping the sweat off your forehead with your forearm.
“but… someone made me nervous” he smirked. you rose your eyebrows, looking at him.
“who? flitwick?” your question caused him to scoff, a toothy grin springing on his face.
“yeah, flitwick”
once you were finished it was past 10pm so if you were caught, you definitely would be in trouble.
“i’ll walk you to the dorms” minghao offered.
“but…” you started, not wanting him to lose his sleep time, that he already wasted on the cleaning.. he linked his arms with you with a shy smile.
“no buts. because of me you were stuck and had to help me with the mess. it’s the least i can do. and also… thank you” he explained and you looked at him, melting completely.
“no problem” you grinned and turned around, causing him to almost fall over “but you’re going the wrong way”
you were chatting quietly, almost arriving at your dorms, when suddenly minghao pulled you closer to hide behind a column.
“what–?!” you gasped, taken aback by his action. he just put his free hand over your mouth, head leaning back.
observing his handsome profile made you realise how close you were, his body pressing onto yours. if he turned his head, there would be very little space between your faces–
and he did just that. your heart skipped a bear when minghao looked at you, lips slightly parted. his chest was moving up and down irregularly, trying to keep his breathing as quiet as he could.
he slowly took off his hand from your mouth, sending you an apologetic smile. you looked at his lips quickly – and whether he noticed or not, minghao pulled back.
“filch” he gulped, nodding his head “but it’s safe now”
you nodded as well, realising you were holding onto his hand. you let it go, coughing awkwardly.
“you can go now, it’s close from here” you mumbled, looking up at him. he seemed a bit distracted, which was… weird.
“huh? oh. i’ll go, yeah. wait, do you… are you busy tomorrow?” he asked quietly. you blinked slowly. tomorrow? saturday.
“no. i mean no, i’m not busy” you whispered, trying to remember how to breathe. what was he–
“do you wanna, uh… hang out? in hogsmeade? we can meet after dinner and…” he stopped, clearing his throat. he looked at you nervously, trying to come up with an excuse if you haven’t agreed but–
“i’d love to” you sent him a warm smile. minghao’s eyes lit up, and so did his face.
“see you tomorrow then! and have a good night, y/n!” he grinned and waved happily. you waved back, wishing him a good night as well. you only left after he was gone, the echo of his footsteps turning into peaceful silence.
when you arrived to the dorm, you leaned against the wall. pressing your hand to your chest you realised how ridiculously fast was it beating. is it because of him? it has to be. fuck, did you fell in love or something? no, it’s just the fact that he wanted to hang out with you. alone. on saturday.
mingyu, vernon and cheol were waiting for you, heads turned your way the second they heard someone coming inside the common room. they looked at each other, surprised at your actions.
“i was so stressed! i thought he kidnapped you!” cheol yelled out, causing you to flinch. oh. they’re here. vernon grinned goofily upon your expression “so?! what happened?!”
“it’s just… nothing. nothing happened” you hummed, unable to stop smiling. mingyu let out a sudden gasp “nothing!”
“yeah, sure! why are you smiling like that?!” seungcheol whined.
“i had a fun time, that’s it” you mumbled and shook your head “i’m tired, bye!”
they watched you run to your dorm. vernon winked at mingyu and seungcheol frowned.
“a fun time? with minghao? something’s wrong” he sighed “i don’t like it… and him”
miyeon was looking at you amused as you were panicking, running around the dorm and digging through your clothes
“i shouldn’t be nervous. it’s not a date” you breathed out and grabbed your black and yellow striped sweater.
“it’s a date. also don’t take the sweater, it’s warm” miyeon giggled, standing up from the bed. you put it away, taking a deep sigh.
“you think it’s a date? he just asked if i’m busy today…” you trailed off, looking at her unsurely. thank merlin you had friends like her, with the boys you wouldn’t be able to even have a chat like that. and maybe that’s why you didn’t realise it was a date… or so miyeon said.
“it’s definitely a date. besides…” she trailed off. miyeon fixed your hair that were falling on your face “you look so pretty. now go. and remember, don’t stress”
“i’m not” you sent her a playful look and she just laughed
“if i seungcheol or soonyoung ask about you… uh, i’ll figure something out so don’t worry about that” she giggled mischievously and patted your back “now go, for god’s sake! and please don’t eat too fast during dinner, you’ll choke!”
“okay!” you saluted and stormed out of the girls dorm, causing the three of your hufflepuff friends chilling in the common room to turn their heads.
“minnie was so right, they’ll look so cute together” she whispered once you were gone, rushing to find her friends and tell them about the news.
you tried to follow miyeon’s advice, you really did but upon seeing minghao wearing his casual clothes and waiting for you… you couldn’t help but speedily wolf down your food.
before approaching him you looked around if there are some familiar faces. fortunately, there weren’t. which was suspicious to be honest but at the moment it wasn’t your biggest worrry.
you left the great hall and noticed him leaning against the wall, his features pensive. however, his eyes lit up upon seeing you and you couldn’t help but mirror the wide smile he gave you.
“hi” you hummed, standing in front of him. minghao scanned your face, a mysterious glint in his eyes
“hi y/n. did you sleep well?” he asked, tilting his head. such a simple question and yet, your heart is going crazy. and you didn’t sleep well… you had troubles falling asleep due to excitement rushing through every vein and vessel in your body but obviously you’re not going to tell him that–
“i did, thank you for asking. and you? hopefully you didn’t run into flich on your way back?” you gasped. minghao shook his head and gestured you to start walking.
while you were chatting during the walk to hogsmeade, your hands brushed a couple of times. you tried your best to ignore it but you had a bad feeling that he was well aware of it as well.
“it’s so… oddly empty today, isn’t it?” you blurted out, the path looking nothing like usually on weekends: swarmed with crowds of excited students. and right now… nothing. just you, him and birds chirping in the trees.
“there’s a quidditch match today so i figured i’d be the perfect opportunity to… you know, hang out” he said a bit shyly
“oh yeah. i didn’t even think about this. that’s good, i’m afraid seungcheol would kill me. and you. if he saw us” a heavy sigh left your mouth and he just chuckled.
“i’ve been wondering… how did you even become friends?” minghao asked. his hand once again accidentally brushed yours, sending sparks down your spine.
“well… at first it was only mingyu and vernon. i just sticked to them after the sorting hat announced we’re hufflepuffs. vernon became friends with seungkwan and dokyeom, who were friends with soonyoung since he accidentally got them in trouble at their first day. mingyu befriended wonwoo and seungcheol. and seungcheol is older, so he was already friends with joshua and jihoon. it just… they kind of adopted me” you laughed, a bright smile painted on his lips too “and i don’t mind. i really have problems with socialising so well, yeah, it was awkward at first but i’m really glad i’m friends with them. sometimes they make you extroverted even if you’re the most socially awkward person ever. which i am. and because of that chan is our friend too! i adopted him”
minghao grinned, looking at your proud face. he recalled how many times you were hanging out with the younger gryffindor boy which now made extra sense.
“same with the girls, kind of. my roommate is miyeon! and miyeon is friends with soyeon and yuqi. i mean we’re not that close as i am with the boys but still, i love hanging out with them” you explained, crossing your arms. speaking of which, did miyeon even check the weather? it wasn’t that warm…
“you do know that they’re friends with minnie and shuhua, right?” minghao asked slowly, scanning your face.
“yeah, of course! that’s kind of why… back then i didn’t want you to talk to minnie. it bothered me because i was overthinking, you know… what would she think of me? she’d tell soyeon and then they would stop hanging out with me” you grumbled and minghao let a soft laugh.
“oh, y/n. they wouldn’t do that, i promise. you’re too precious” he hummed and noticed how you’re rubbing your bare arms “are you cold?”
“just a bit, but…” your voice trailed off when minghao stopped in his tracks and took off his grey hoodie. he stood behind you and helped you put it on. after that, he came back in front of you and zipped it gently.
“here you go” he hummed and you swore his ears were tinted red.
“thank you” you mumbled, not really sure what’s the source of your warmth: his hoodie or your glowing red cheeks.
in a matter of time you arrived to three broomsticks, the local not so fully crowded. minghao ordered two butter beers for you and went to find a seat while you excused yourself to the bathroom.
upon seeing your reflection you had to take a few deep breaths. his hoodie was too big on you but you liked it. besides, it actually went along with your outfit. not to mention that it smelled like him. you shook your head, trying to pull yourself together. it’s just a hoodie that he gave you because you were cold. stop being weird–
you left the bathroom and noticed minghao sitting at a table with… jeonghan and jun. he was faced back to you, so naturally he didn’t see you and his friends didn’t seem to notice you either.
you walked up, not wanting to eavesdrop but…
“what are you doing here? two beers? is that a date?!” jun sing-sung and suddenly let out a gasp, realisation settling in “with the hufflepuff girl–?!”
“what? no! shut up!” minghao grunted. jeonghan frowned, tilting his head
“that one girl that’s always attached to those bloody gryffindors? and seungcheol?” he asked and minghao started panicking.
“well yeah but– it’s not a date. it’s nothing serious. we just came here to discuss the potion, that’s it. once we’re done with it i’m done with her too” minghao explained, his breath shaking “she pisses me off, really…”
your heart dropped, hands starting to shake. so cheol was right from the begging…
“what do you mean?! you’re basically glued to each other and like, it’s nothing bad” jun frowned. your vision started getting blurry because of the tears forming in your eyes. you should go before they notice you.
“jun, end of topic. i don’t even like her that much, get it?” minghao snapped and you let out a deep breath “she’s so annoying! it’s like a torture being around her–“
“uh, minghao…” jeonghan sighed, his gaze shifting. he turned around and saw you leaving.
minghao’s heart dropped. fuck, fuck, fuck. it wasn’t supposed to be like that! why did he even…
he stood up, running after you. jun looked at his older friend and grabbed the two butter beers that minghao left behind.
“he doesn’t like her, huh? does he think we’re blind or what?” jun scoffed and they laughed, taking a sip of the beverage.
“well he may like here but she sure won’t like him now” jeonghan rolled his eyes at the younger’s stupidity.
you were wiping your cheeks, heart thumping against your rib cage. your mind was racing with thoughts but the most repetitive one was that your friends were right.
“y/n!”
he was coming after you. why bother now? you didn’t stop, harsh sobs leaving your mouth.
suddenly you bumped into something or rather, someone.
“hey! hey, y/n? oh baby!” soyeon’s voice was filled with worry and you just hugged onto her “what happened?”
you just shook your head. soyeon hugged you tightly and noticed minghao coming your way.
“i see. this asshole” she grunted and turned around, leading you towards the castle.
minghao stopped upon seeing that. right. it was probably for the best to give you some time now…? or at least talk to you alone.
well, luck wasn’t by his side.
“–the hit? i swear, you’re like a tiger when you enter the field!” chan grinned and soonyoung laughed loudly.
“isn’t that y/n?” wonwoo asked suddenly, pointing at you
they all turned around, eyes widening upon noticing your shaking body. soyeon and yuqi were walking with you, the gryffindor girl wiping your tears.
chan wanted to walk up to you but yuqi noticed him and gave him a warning look.
“not now” jihoon mumbled, pulling him back.
“what happened?” dokyeom whispered. they all watched how the girls walked you back to the dorms.
“as if i know” seungkwan rolled his eyes. joshua gasped suddenly and rushed the other way.
“what’s up with him?” seungcheol shook his head. you’ll definitely have to talk to them later.
miyeon patted your hair as you bawled your eyes out, tightly hugging your pillow.
“why do i care so much?” you breathed out, looking at her confused.
“oh, y/nnie…” she sighed, concern on her face. then it hit you.
because you like him. way more than a friend.

minghao haven’t seen you the whole weekend. he only got a lecture from minnie and shuhua about hurting your feelings, not being able to treat girls properly and all of that. as if he didn’t know he messed up. they told him you were crying the whole time and even if he didn’t believe them, the sight of you on a monday morning a proof. and it was heart breaking. especially that he knew he was the source of it.
during your lessons you sat with vernon. your friends probably didn’t know what happened yet since they seemed confused and seungcheol or soonyoung haven’t spoken to him yet. besides joshua, he kept side eyeing the slytherins every time they passed you by, especially jeonghan.
and for the first time ever minghao was looking forward to potions. you’ll have to talk to him, right? you can sit with someone else during charms but during potions you’re his partner.
however, you were absent.
“where’s miss l/n?” snape asked, clicking his tongue.
“she isn’t feeling very well, she went to madam pomfrey” mingyu explained, his voice lacking the usual enthusiasm. he looked over at minghao, and if only looks could kill...
“i see. next week i’m going to grade your potions so someone tell her that she’ll better be here” he said and have minghao a questioning look.
“what if he poisoned her? you know, so he can gain all the credits?!” seungkwan gasped a little too loudly, causing to draw attention to him.
“you’re being too dramatic, mr boo. and if mr xu did happen to do that, i’ll make sure he gets the proper punishment” snape hissed and the lesson begun.
minghao felt strange without your presence.
seungcheol grabbed your arm when you were leaving the great hall after supper. the bags under your eyes made his heart clench.
“hey, y/n. are you okay? because clearly…” he started. suddenly jihoon joined you, crossing his arms. you let out a sigh, trying to look away but you met minghao’s gaze. well to be fair, you were standing in the middle of the room.
“i’m fine. just a little sick, that’s all” you grunted “can you let me go? i’m tired”
“we need to talk” seungcheol said, voice stern. soonyoung noticed you all and stood up from your seat to join you.
“i’m tired” you repeated coldly. seungcheol turned around and saw minghao looking your way
“then i’ll just talk to him” he grunted and let you go. jihoon grabbed his arm, preventing him from going further and pointed at you.
tears gathered at your water line as you let out a deep sigh.
“y/n, chan asked you to meet with him at the gryffindor quidditch team locker room” joshua’s voice appeared from nowhere, drawing everyone’s attention. soonyoung, who joined you, frowned.
“mkay” you mumbled quietly and wiped your tears with shaky hands “i’ll talk to you later, i promise”
when you walked away, soonyoung punched seungcheol
“what did you do! you made her cry!” he grunted.
“no i didn’t!” the older yelled. while the gryffindors argued, jihoon came back to his seat. because of that none of them noticed jeonghan and minghao passing them by and the older one winking at joshua.
you sat down at the bench, waiting for chan. looking down on the floor, you were busy with swinging your feet. suddenly you heard the door open and you let out a sigh.
“finally you’re here” a hum left your mouth, the sound of door closing disturbing the quietness of the room “i’m not in the best mood to talk so sorry if…”
you looked up and words died in your throat upon seeing minghao. he was just as confused as you.
the room felt silent again (for different reasons though), tension thickening.
“y/n i need to-“ he started but you stood up, passing him by and pushing the door. well, wanting to. they didn’t bulge a bit.
“y/nnie i locked the door! have fun~!” joshua’s happy voice from the other side made you gasp
“you traitor!” you grunted, looking around slowly at minghao.
“wait, jeonghan?” he called out, frowning.
“yeah. just talk it through already, i don’t want to wait here for the whole day” jeonghan said
“why would you…?” you murmured and started looking for your wand. oh.
“let’s go further away though, let them have some privacy” joshua’s voice sounded worried and there were steps echoing on the other side.
“i wanna listen though–!” jeonghan whined.
after a moment there was silence again. minghao was looking at you, his eyes filled with guilt.
“y/n, listen to me please” he spoke softly, playing with his fingers.
“why would i? aren’t i a torture to be around with? why you even bother?” you grunted and returned to the bench, looking away from him.
it hurt. you avoided him because whenever you looked at him, your heart shattered into pieces again and again.
“i’m sorry”
you gulped, trying to look unbothered.
the sound of his steps approaching and him sitting on the bench didn’t help your case.
“i’m so fucking sorry. it’s… i shouldn’t have said that. never. i know it was horrible and i’m in no place to make excuses but listen to me, please” he said, his voice filled with genuine pain. you turned around, yet you didn’t face him. gaze stuck on the floor, as if the dust there was the most interesting thing ever, you started drumming your fingers anxiously against the bench’s surface.
“i was scared. i was scared that my friends will judge me; i was scared that they’ll tell my parents; i was scared of others, what will they think: a slytherin with a hufflepuff? i was scared… because i panicked. i panicked… because i like you. but i was afraid that if somehow someone would find out, you’d be in danger and–“ minghao sucked a breath and you noticed how close his hand was next to you, your pinkies brushing against each other “i didn’t mean any of those words that i said. well…”
minghao scanned your face. he was frightened. you were sitting silently, not answering him. will you ever forgive him.
“well?” you choked out, chest heavy.
“being around you is like a torture because i’m madly in love with you. it hurts me physically to look at you crying, to look at your pretty face and knowing i can’t kiss it. to see how wildly you’re grinning at those stupid loud ass gryffindors’ jokes–“ he halted, eyes widening. fuck, he overshared. he overshared and you’ll hate him even more than you did–
you grabbed his hand, giving it a small squeeze. minghao’s face heated up upon the gesture, his heart skipping a beat. what does this mean? are you comforting him or…?
you’re crying.
“y/n, no no no no… don’t cry, please” he panicked, leaving to kneel in front of you. with your free hand you covered your face, the rest of your body shaking.
“you’re making me cry so much, i hate you” you let out a breathy laugh, wiping your eyes even though the tears wouldn’t stop.
“what?” he whispered, his thumb reassuringly stroking your hand.
“you like me?” you chuckled, finally looking at him. his brown irises were focused on you, features softening.
“did you just full on ignore the apology part?” he scoffed, brining a smile on both of your faces
“i… i’m not going to lie, i was hurt. i felt like i was betrayed: a someone who i treated as a friend said he hated me… but… you were scared? oh, hao… i’d be an idiot to forgive you but well, aren’t i already?” you whispered. minghao tried to ignore the swarm of butterflies that appeared in his stomach due to the nickname, his head plopping down and resting against your knee.
“i’m so sorry. i’ll never forgive myself for hurting you like that. i know i broke your trust and heart probably. but please… please give me another chance” he breathed out.
you tapped his arm lightly. the slytherin boy rose his head up, eyes shining with anticipation.
“see, there’s one thing you need to know: i like you. and that horrible event made me realise that. so i’d say give me a kiss and i’ll give you a chance–“ you broke into laughter when he eagerly stood up. when he leaned closer, you put your hand on his lips, giggling even more upon his confused expression “–but for merlin’s sake i do not want our first kiss to take place in this stinky locker room”
eyes widening, minghao leaned away. with a soft oh he scrunched up his nose.
“okay, i think i know where we can go. but… jeonghan and joshua…?” he rose his eyebrows.
“easy there, lover boy” you stood up, letting go of his hand. minghao’s heart was racing, the realisation hitting him: you like him. you forgave him. and you’re willing to kiss him? if not the fact that your felix felicis wasn’t finished, he would have thought that someone poured it into his tea.
“hey bro, not to interrupt your meditation or whatever but y/n is gone” jeonghan’s voice made him snap back to reality, dropping the smile that subconsciously formed on his lips
“where’d she go?” minghao asked, looking at his older friend. jeonghan was smiling suspiciously, a mischievous smirk on his face.
minghao rushed after you, apparently walking back to your dorm.
“y/n!” he called upon seeing you in the hallway. he run up to you, ignoring the weird looks from strangers and gasps from your girl friends (including minnie’s “i told you!” and yuqi’s “wait, they made up?”)
you turned around, a goofy smile on your face.
“yeah?” your voice was filled with playfulness, alas your eyes were glinting with excitement.
“can i please kiss you? i feel like i might explode if i don’t” minghao breathed out, chest rising up and down irregularly.
“you’re not afraid of what will others think?” you teased, tilting your head slightly.
“i’ll be honest, the moment you called me a lover boy i feel like i was reborn” he grunted, his usual grumpy expression forming on his face once realising how cheesy he sounds “can i–?”
“yeah” you laughed and in no time his big, soft palms were cupping your cheeks tenderly. the air was knocked out of your lungs as soon as his pillowy lips landed against yours.
normally, your mind would be racing with what ifs: what if the others think you’re weird? what if your friends see you? what if the teachers catch you? but now… minghao soothed away your anxiety and nervousness, his embrace and the feeling of him and only him making you forget about the world.
loud cheers and applause (coming from your girl friends) in the hallway made you smile into the kiss, and he reacted the same way. without pulling away yet you put your hands on his neck, trying to bring him even closer.
minghao pulled away but didn’t lean back too far. you could see the sparks in his eyes, soft smile on his lips. and you couldn’t stare at him like that for the whole day of not the yells in the background becoming louder and louder.
“can we run away somewhere? i can hear seungcheol approaching and i do not want to be beaten up by him… and also we could have one or two more kisses…?” he mumbled looking through his shoulder to see, in fact, your older friend. soyeon, shuhua and jihoon were trying to stop him while yuqi, minnie were arguing about something with soonyoung and seungkwan (“leave them alone it’s not like he’s hurting her?!” “but the sight is hurting my eyes-!”). miyeon and wonwoo were shaking their heads, chan and vernon signalled you to run.
so you did, giggling. minghao’s hand was squeezing yours, fingers intertwined.

you stormed into the classroom, textbooks almost falling out of your arms. you quickly scanned the room to see if snape was there… and of course he was there.
“um, good morning! i’m sorry for being late” you blurted out, walking over to your desk.
“what was it this time, miss l/n?” snape grunted, his eyes piercing your soul.
“sorry for being late– ” minghao bursted into the classroom, his tie loosened and collar all over the place, revealing his neck tinted in…
“ew” mingyu grunted. as the slytherin boy walked over to you, you fixed his collar with pink cheeks. you told him to do it but obviously he’s just an attention seeker… and he has a thing for showing off you’re a couple now.
snape was speechless. he turned around, sighing.
“prepare your potions. i’ll be checking them in a minute” he announced and you looked over at minghao, his eyes sparkling with boyish playfulness.
“idiot” you scoffed and nudged his arm.
you never used felix felicis, you just didn’t see any sense of even using a potion like that. despite that, you did feel lucky that you meet minghao while working on it. maybe it was just a side effect of felix felicis? or maybe just destiny?

There was something peaceful about rainy nights. You had always loved to stay in when a storm was going on outside, a cup of tea in your hand, a book in the other. Not a care in the world. Until the next morning, at least, then everything would go back to normal. But for a few more hours, nothing mattered but you. Nothing existed but you.
And the person who had started banging on your door.
You got up from the couch, ready to punch whoever had dared to ruin your night right in the face. “Who is it?”
“Me.”
Tommy Shelby. Ada Shelby’s brother. You had known him since you were five and following him everywhere, fighting him with your wooden sword with his sister. You could’ve recognised his voice from miles away. Still, if you had just opened the door, you wouldn’t have been you. “I don’t know anyone with that name.”
“(Y/n), open this fucking door.”
There was something strange in his voice. He seemed tired, in pain, even. You opened the door, widening your eyes at the sight. He was covered in bruises and scratches all over.
“What the fuck…” you whispered, moving away from the door to let him in. “What happened?”
Tommy walked past you as you closed the door behind him. “Do you have whiskey?” He ignored your question, taking off his cap.
You raised your eyebrows, crossing your arms over your chest. “I asked you a question.”
“I asked you a question, too.”
“Cut the crap and tell me what happened.” You snapped, following him into the living room.
He sighed, turning to look at you. “I’m fine, Y/n-”
“You’re not fine.” You interrupted him, raising your voice. “You don’t get to show up to my house like this and tell me you’re fine.”
“I might’ve made some people upset.”
He winced as he tried to take off his coat. You walked up to him and carefully helped him remove it. “That I can see.”
“Thought you could help me with these.” He said, referring to his injuries.
You delicately grabbed his chin, examining his face. It was really bad. “Come with me.” You instructed, walking into the kitchen.
You took a bowl and filled it with warm water. “Why didn’t you ask your pretty barmaid to patch you up?”
“Because you took the nurse course with my sister.” He replied, sitting on the table.
You opened a cabinet to take out a few bandages and a sanitizer. “For two days. Then we got kicked out.”
“Why is that?”
“We were always laughing.” You shrugged, placing everything on the table.
You poured a bit of antiseptic on a cloth and gently started to treat the wound on his face. “It’s a bad cut.” You murmured, furrowing your brows.
Tommy tried his best not to show the slightest sign of pain, but you couldn’t help but notice the way he was gripping the edge of the table. As much as you liked to say that the deserved to be humbled with a beating from time to time, you didn’t like to see him like this.
He had probably noticed your concern, because he was looking at you in a strange way.
“You should be more careful, Thammy.” You mocked him, trying to ease the tension.
Tommy smiled to himself, shaking his head. You had been giving him a hard time since the day Grace showed up to the Garrison. In particular, you liked to make fun of the way she called him - and the way she flirted with him.
“Your Grace impression is not that good.”
“You’re right, I forgot to bat my eyelashes at you.”
“Are you jealous?” He teased you with a grin, looking at you with inquiring eyes.
“Don’t flatter yourself.” You said, taking his hands in yours to wash the blood away. “I was just messing with you a bit.”
Silence fell between you as you treated the cuts and the bruises on his hands. You could feel his eyes on you as you focused on his injuries. He was observing you. It made you nervous, but not in a bad way.
“I’m not interested in her, by the way.”
Tommy’s sudden statement surprised you. Why was he telling you? It was none of your business, after all.
“Then why are you so soft with her?” You asked him out of curiosity.
“‘Cause I’m a gentleman.”
“Ah, right. How could I forget?” You joked, grabbing a fresh cloth to dry his hands. “Thomas Michael Shelby. Racketeer, bookmaker, notorious gentleman. Marriage material.”
He chuckled, following you with his eyes. “You’re lucky I let you disrespect me like that. I’ve cut people for much less.” He affirmed in a fake scolding tone.
“A real gentleman indeed.”
You started to wrap the bandages around his hand, securing them so they wouldn’t fall off. He moved a strand of hair out of your face with his free hand, lingering with his fingers on your cheek for a few seconds before letting in fall by his side.
“Were you worried about me?” He asked out of the blue, making you stop your movements for a few seconds.
“What?”
“Before, when you saw me.” He explained. “You seemed kinda worried.”
You didn’t raise your eyes from his hands as he spoke, avoiding his gaze. “I was worried about my carpet. You were bleeding on it.”
“I see.” He nodded, clearly just pretending to believe you.
You began to wrap the bandages on the other hand, which was in slightly better conditions than the other. Neither of you said anything else for a while.
“You know,” Tommy started, bringing your attention on him again. “I almost thought you cared about me. Like…” He paused, debating whether to continue his sentence or not. “Like I care about you.”
Your heart skipped a beat at his words. Was he trying to tell you what you thought he was trying to tell you?
You let go of his hands, raising your eyes on him. “You care about me?”
“Yes. Not as a friend.” He affirmed bluntly, regaining his composure.
You blinked, not sure about what to say. You cared about him as well -not as a friend -, but you had never thought he would look at you as something more than his sister’s annoying friend.
Tommy gently caressed your face, getting closer to you. He examined your face to read any kind of reaction, giving you the time to move away and, when you didn’t, he got even closer.
You felt numb, but in a pleasant way. Everything about him - his eyes, his voice, his smell - made your head spin and your knees weak. You had almost given in to the kiss when you came back to your senses.
You placed your finger on his lips, moving away a bit. “That’s really inappropriate for a gentleman.” You teased him, smirking at his surprised expression. “You should ask me out, first.”

I love your op stuff I’m excited to see what you’ll write here!!!
Could I request Iruka (naruto) and him going and buying you flowers? Maybe you’re another teacher at the school or his neighbor or something
A/N: you absolutely may!!! This sounds so cute please he is such a silly little man (affectionate). I hope my characterization of him is alright (YAY first iruka fic <3 ) GENRE: fluff WARNINGS: none CHARACTER: iruka umino x gn reader PROMPT: buying you flowers WORD COUNT: 1k

Iruka chewed on his lip as he stared at the shop before him. Inoichi stood before him, leaning on the counter with a knowing smile on his face.
“So, who are the flowers for?”
Pink rushes to the teacher’s cheeks, his attention snapping up to the man, “I- what, they’re for no one- I mean it’s not anything special!” Excuses tumbled from his lips as his hands moved around with a frantic anxiety, “They’re just to thank another teacher at the Academy.”
“Which one?” When Inoichi hears your name, Iruka sees the man’s eyes flash with recognition, “Oh, Ino has a friend in their class I think.” A laugh rings from him, “She did say you seemed close to them, now that I think about it.”
“It’s not like that,” Iruka lies. Unable to keep up his facade and maintain eye contact with the father of ones of his students, he looks back to the flowers, “They haven’t been teaching very long and are doing well. I wanted to encourage them to continue doing their bust but…” He sighs, grimacing slightly and pinching the bridge of his knows, “This was the only thing I could come up with.”
It wasn’t totally a lie, you had impressed him with how quickly you picked things up. Your students loved you, the parents loved you, he loved- The way you worked. He loved your style and determined way of teaching. That was all it was. These were flowers from one coworker to another, simply a way to say ‘congrats on doing so well despite being new!’ It was a normal sentiment to celebrate.
At least, that’s what Iruka told himself. It was he told himself while in Yamanaka Flowers, while he was walking home with them that evening and to school with him the following morning.
But, as he stood in front of the door to your classroom, the lie fizzled away in his chest. The tips of his ears turned pink at the thought of what these flowers really meant, what he was really doing by giving you a bouquet of peonies in your favorite color. He had mentally prepared a speech beforehand, one that congratulated you and sung your praises as an educator. It was supposed to make you feel welcomed, to give you a boost of confidence that he wasn’t sure if you needed.
Swallowing hard, he recalled the words he had recited to himself in the mirror when he found himself trying to deny the true meaning behind his gift. Raising his free hand, he lets a knock rap against your door, going over the strictly platonic meaning behind such a gift.
The speech however, evaporated in his mind the moment your voice says to come in. Iruka feels his mouth dry as he opens the door, his cheeks burning as he looks at you. You never failed to take his breath away, something he noticed in this moment more than anything before it.
“I’m not bothering you, am I?” His voice is deceptively steady, though his knees threaten to cave at the perplexed expression that your face morphed into. It reminded him that he wanted to see every expression you could make, that these did not want to be platonic flowers, that he was not here to just congratulate you on how you’re doing with your students.
The smile you given him nearly blinds him, “No, you’d never be a bother anyway, Unimo-sensei.”
“P-please.” He waves the hand that isn’t tucked behind his back, nervous laughter bubbling out between his words, “Iruka is fine, no need to be so formal.”
The grin you wear only widens, nodding in acceptance to his words, “What do I owe the pleasure?”
The pleasure? Iruka has to stop himself from tumbling into some lovesick babble about how the pleasure is all his, how he wishes he could spend ev spare moment getting to know you more. His planned speech may have been erased from his memory, but it didn’t seem that important to him anymore.
Not when you were there, smiling before him. “Sorry if this comes off as forward,” Iruka steps further into the room, not really sorry at all. How could he be sorry, when he felt so true in his feelings for you? “I was wondering if you wanted to grab a meal together this weekend, or something.”
“Oh, with the teachers? I can-“
“As a date,” He feels bad for cutting you off, but wanted there to be no room for misunderstanding what he meant, how he felt. Handing you the flowers, he takes a step back to give you space to consider his offer, “I’d like to take you on a date, if that is alright with you. You can- well, you don’t need to answer right now!” Iruka gestures vaguely to the bouquet you held in your hands, “I left my number on the card, you can text or- or calling works too.” The nerves start to catch up with him, the flash of confidence he felt quickly fading, “Or let me know here- at school I mean, but no rush at all-“
“Yes.” The temptation to let him flounder was beaten out by your eagerness, “Yes, I would like to go on a date with you, Iruka.”
A wide smile stretches his lips, his hands fidgeting before landing on a thumbs up (an action he would kick himself for the moment he was alone), “Well, great!” His eyes soften as he looks at you, making his way back to the door. “I look forward to hearing from you, then.”
The moment the door shuts behind him, your face nearly steams with how hot it grows, the thundering of your heart blocking out everything else around you. Your eyes fall to the flowers in your hand and when you go to smell them, their sweetness reminds you an awful lot of a teacher you were fond of.
rumour has it, i’m into you

—drabble, 4.1k words, fluff, dedicated to @tommosteps this is my hug for you, did i write this because i wanted an excuse to talk about how hot jimin is? no yes 🥲❤️🔥 (you’re not legally allowed to ask me if this was supposed to make any sense, asdfjghjk)

(you guys are seeing this, right? like, i am in physical pain because of him. @ God, help me.)
. . .
Morning arrives with your head held high.
Groups of students line the lockers, chatting about the weekend, as you walk past them with two trays of fresh-baked brownies in your arms. Over your shoulder, a mustard hued Heinken backpack carries your remaining necessities for school, though nothing could be as important today as the delicacies you are holding.
Five hours. It had taken you five hours to pull your ingredients together, get your head on straight, and bake until you had perfected two glass trays of chewy, fudge brownies for today's backsale. Or in your book, the most important day of the year.
As a second year university student with two more years to go before the real world invited you into its clutches, the most vital event in your agenda is this afternoon. An entire afternoon full of chances upon chances for you to beat the odds and win the vote as the next vice-president of the school newspaper.
The opportunity is an ancient one written with invisible ink along the walls of the Aberdeen Gazette. Rumour has it that the president awards vice-presidency to whomever publishes the most articles in the Gazette throughout the previous two years; whomever has displayed the best teamwork skills; and last but not least, whomever brings in the most sales at the annual Gazette Bake Sale. Through the grapevine, you have heard this part to be extra special since the money pays for the current president to go on a trip abroad to cover an international news story. Obviously, whomever earns the president the trip is viewed as indisposible.
Which brings you to the root of your smiles and cheer this morning. Five hours baking and stressing is unimportant in relation to earning the spot of vice-president. It is a position you have been dreaming about since the moment you entered the university. For two years, you had worked tirelessly to provide well-written articles on the best and most boring subjects in and around campus. Everything from the hottest hangout spots, the Palestinian cause, the entirety of the global pandemic, as well as subject matter related to explosions in the chemistry lab, dreadfully dull modern society lectures, and when sales at the campus bookstore are happening.
For two years, you had worked and worked without complaint. Now, it is time to reap the rewards.
Entering the elevator in the student center, you settle into a spot in the middle when you notice two familiar faces pulling up to the closing doors. Immediately, you balance the glass trays in your left hand then reach over to push the 'open doors' button. The button lights up in bright red as you take a step back to give space to the couple.
The first pair of eyes you meet are a boy named Jimin's.
Of its own accord, your heart begins to race. It does that a lot--your heart. And only around him. It started sometime over the summer when you were moving into a student house across the street from his, and he and all his friends came over to yours to 'meet the new neighbours.' They claimed it was 'the neighbourly thing to do,' but after two of his roommates started dating two of yours, the lines became blurry.
The two of you don't talk much, but you notice him all the time. He never initiates conversation with you, but he somehow always finds your eyes no matter where the two of you are. The room could be as gigantic as the moon and he would still notice your presence and bring you into a silent conversation.
"Are those for the bake sale?"
The other person in the elevator asks you a question as the doors shut. Right. As much as you would prefer it, you and Jimin are not the only two people inside this moving room. His girlfriend, Andie, is here, too. At a mere five feet, it's easy to forget when she's in the room sometimes. (Or maybe it's just the fact that when Jimin is around, it's hard to discern anyone else's presence.)
"Yeah," you nod along, transfering the full weight of the trays between both your arms. One side begins to tip downwards, but Jimin catches it just in time. His fingers brush your skin causing you to hold back a shudder. His girlfriend throws him a dirty look which you ignore. Jimin is holding something, too. A small, brown box. "Did you bring something, too?"
Andie grins and reaches over to dig inside the box as Jimin struggles to keep holding it up. He breathes a short sigh of relief when she produces plastic tray of cupcakes topped with lavender frosting and white sprinkles. They look beautiful, and as Andie spins one around in her hand, she finishes by pointing it towards you.
"Have this," she says, smiling giddily to herself. "I have a feeling all of these will sell out before lunch."
Her confidence gives you motivation to say no. As much as you would love to cram the cupcake into your mouth, Andie is competition; and with all competition, lines must be drawn.
"Oh, no, thanks," you smile just as the elevator dings on the tenth floor. "I don't eat sugar."
Andie huffs and whispers, 'bitch' as you stalk off in the direction of the community room.
The president of the newspaper, Hudson, welcomes you as you place your trays of brownies on one of the many open tables in the room. A few other members of the Gazette are talking amongst each other. From what you can see, there are about three other items: scones, cheesecake, and granola bars. The members who made them wave at you as you walk over to Hudson and join him in conversation with his girlfriend.
"Good morning," you greet them as Andie and Jimin walk through the door. Jimin smiles as he passes by you, but you clear your throat and look away. He's someone else's boyfriend, YN. Get it together. To Hudson, you say, "How was your weekend?"
"Really great actually," he tells you as he slips his arm around his girlfriend, Kelly. She blushes as he plants a peck on her cheek. "I asked this one to marry me."
"Oh my God," you laugh, stepping close to wrap them both up in a hug. "That's so amazing. Congratulations!"
Hudson chuckles as he pats your back just before you give them their space again. He's smiling from ear-to-ear. "Thanks for being cool about it," he says. "I know we're young, but we're ready for this next step. Right, babe?" Kelly nods and interlaces their hands. He looks at you again. "Listen, I wanted to tell you that I'm doing things a bit differently this year."
As your brows furrow, you tilt your head to listen. "Differently?"
"I've already picked the vice-president for next year," Hudson explains with a grin. "The tradition of the bakesale is stupid, and I don't really care that much about going to Indonesia to cover the volcano story, so I picked the vice-president based on whomever worked the hardest this year, and that person is... you."
A ringing in your ears fights for dominance as you hold back a scream. Eyes wide, your gaze jumps between Hudson and Kelly to make sure they aren't messing with you. When you realize they arene't, you slap a hand over your mouth. "Really?" you finally manage to whisper after a few seconds. Tears spring to your eyes. The culmination of your hard work coming to fruition bends your heart in all sorts of wayward directions. "Hudson, wow, um. Thank you. Thank you so much."
The older man smiles and nods his head. "I'll announce it to everyone in a bit. I know it might tick people off since some of them have their hearts set out on the bake sale, but I'm content with my decision in picking you."
Taking a seat next to your brownies, you try very hard not to listen to the commotion Andie is causing behind you as she tears into her boyfriend.
"I saw you looking at her," she hisses at him. The back of your neck freezes at her words. She can't be referring to you, can she? "Do you think I'm blind?"
"I wasn't trying to--" The end of Jimin's explanation splits in the middle when Hudson gathers all the attention to himself.
"Good morning, everyone," he greets, using a booming voice which he is well-known for in the department. "Thank you for all your wonderful creations. This room smells amazing. I'm sure everyone will sell out in no time." He pauses to take a breath and then, he nods at you. Behind you, Andie indiscreetly whispers, 'what the hell?' "I know there is an old rumour around campus that the annual bake sale is the final determiner of the who will earn the spot of vice-president next year. However, I have chosen to do things differently. Based on attendance records, weekly meeting efforts, published articles, and general workplace relationships, I would like to take this moment to announce the next vice-president: YN YLN."
When Hudson claps, the remainder of the room bursts into applause as well. Although it is rather glum and a bit confused, it's present, and it makes you happy for yourself regardless. Elation fills your heart as Hudson gifts you a box. When you open it, a black, ink pen with the gazette's name embellished in the side stares back at you.
"Congratulations, YN," Hudson says, smiling again as he walks back to his post. Eyes dart between him and you, but you are hardly paying attention. The pen is so beautiful that you can't look away. "Have fun today, everyone. All proceeds will go towards community outreach efforts via our school paper. Good luck!"
Murmurs break out throughout the room as Hudson leaves the front of the room to find his post next to Kelly's cotton candy machine. It's the biggest thing inside the room, save for the fridge in the corner, and nearly cuts off any image of the tiny girl behind it.
A shadow falls into your vision. Hesitantly, you look up to see Andie glaring down at you with fury in her eyes.
"Did you sleep with him or something?" Her outright brashness spins in circles around your head for a moment before finally landing somewhere in the part of your brain which comprehends threats. Everything about the girl is threatening--from the way she looks at you to the way her lips are snarling like a lone tiger. "What are you playing at, YN?" Jimin steps in behind her, whispering a quiet, 'I'm sorry' your way, but you ignore him for the sake of the fight building up inside you. If the girl wants a fight, you'll give her a fight.
"Bold of you to assume that I would have to sleep with someone in power to win them over," you slyly muse as a triumphant smirk dangles off your lips. "I wouldn't dare copy your M.O."
Timing. Life is all about timing. The perfect timing leads to beautiful, unimaginable things, but bad timing... well, it leads to the complete opposite.
Right now is what you would consider bad timing. And also, a complete lack of intelligence on your part. One moment you are standing up for yourself and the next, you are being doused by a bottle of orange Gatorade.
The attack hits you out of nowhere causing you to nearly fall backwards as your body instinctively weans back. Thick droplets of orange liquid douses you from the tip of your head and down the front of your shirt. Scratch that. Your very white and extremely see-through white blouse which you had bought at Zara over the weekend for full price. And you never buy anything from Zara at full price.
Others in the room gasp as Andie holds the bottle to her chest. Her lips mirror the way yours looked less than a minute ago.
"Oops," she giggles, plastering on a fake pout. "Silly me, my hand slipped."
Head fuzzy and fingers trembling, your lips part to curse her out when hefty denim drops over your shoulders, instantly warming you up. The chatter of the other students, including Hudson who is stomping over, dies away just for a split second as you crane your head up to see Jimin behind you. The denim jacket you initially saw him in today is now draped perfectly over your shoulders.
"Thanks," you murmur, feeling your cheeks heat up a tiny bit.
On the opposite side of you, Andie growls, "What the fuck, Jimin? Why are you helping her?"
"That was out of line, Andie," he argues, genuinely sounding angry at his girlfriend. Every vibration of his deep voice settles atop your shoulders and cacoons you further into his jacket. It smells so good. "Why did you do that?"
By now, Hudson is standing next to Andie with a grim expression while Kelly asks you if you're okay repeatedly.
"Leave, Andie," Hudson bellows, and it sounds so scary that you can't stop your eyes from blinking twice really fast. Hudson is a pretty tall guy and when he stands next to Andie, he looks like he could crush her. A part of you wants to watch him to do it. Another part of you just wants to go to a bathroom. So that's what you do when you excuse myself and walk out of the room, taking Jimin's jacket with you.
Thankfully, the bathroom is empty when you walk in.
The first thing you do is place the jacket and your glasses on the counter. Then, you reach over to the paper towel dispenser and keep pulling until you have a stack of shame in your hands. You always tell yourself to be environmentally friendly, but you fail so epically every time. Is the world against your good nature?
Using the first few towels to wipe the juice on your head, you start cleaning up the mess on your face when the sound of the bathroom door cranking open wrenches you away. You turn around to see Jimin hurriedly walking inside.
"This is the girls' bathroom--"
"I'm sorry," he says, pain etched into the delicate crevices of his face. He looks it, too—sorry. Apologetic. The emotions are vivid on his external features. "I didn't know Andie was going to..."
He stops when he notices the Gatorade dripping down your right cheek. He hurries over and wipes it before the droplet hits your shirt. Though his touch is light, almost featherlike and abundantly careful, it heats you up so quickly that your skin begs for another bottle of cold liquid to be dumped on you. An endless drought is what you have just become.
It's crazy. His simple touch warms you up even better than his jacket did.
His eyes are creased as he whispers, "I'm sorry," again.
Butterflies begin churning in your stomach, and though you want to thank him for being so kind to you, what you end up blurting instead is, "I'm 'sorry,'" in a friendly mock of his accent.
Back when we first met, Jimin had mentioned, in passing, that he had only moved to the city from Korea at the end of middle school. Because of that, he still carries some of his original accent with him when speaking English. You want to hate yourself for being awful and making fun of the way he talks, but you can't help it. The adorable pout on his lips makes you want to do it all over again. And again and again and again.
"Are you making fun of me?"
A shrug, and then a smile. Jimin smiles back at you. So there you two are: two idiots smiling at each other in the girls' bathroom. "Maybe I am."
He scoffs goodnaturedly then continues wiping off the rest of the liquid starting to dry on your face. When he comes across your lips, he pauses. That one little stretch of time freezes you in place.
What is he going to do? You wonder to yourself, watching him as he watches you. Or just stares blankly, really. It's as though his soul has left his body.
But then he starts moving again, like the dawn of a new day. Instead of rubbing the paper towel across your face, he dabs the spots around your mouth and when time finally arrives to clean up that part, he is so gentle. His strokes are defined, and smooth. They make good on their promise to give you what you need and then so much more.
His breathing visibly stops when his finger slips off the towel and breaches contact with your bottom lip. The butterflies in your stomach whoosh up to your throat, clombering atop each other until it's impossible for you to suck in oxygen.
Energy buzzes through your heated skin. He does not move but you could swear he's closer now. Your chests are nearly touching. His fingers are everywhere and nowhere. And then, his thumb is stretching your bottom lip with gentleness. When he lets go, the muscle retracts, and naturally, your tongue darts out to lick it. His breath hitches.
Fuck.
"YN," he whispers your name so beautifully that you could cry. Sob. Hurl. Maybe a little bit of both. He shuffles closer. He meets your eyes. Falling, falling, falling. That's all you're doing as he peers at you. Worse, when he leans in. "I think I—"
It kills you. The thought, the mulling of such thought, and the execution. Every single thing about it all kills you.
Gently, you place a hand on Jimin's chest and push him away. "I'm not a home-wrecker, Jimin," you whisper sternly. The tip of your chin lifts as you look up at him. A thousand tornados swim in his dark irises. "Figure out whatever it is you have with Andie first... please."
The desperation embed in the plead leaves your lips wobbly and uncertain. The Lord knows that you are trying to be good here, but fuck, if he moves in again, you might just end up disappointing yourself forever.
Jimin nods, then takes a step back. Your heart shrinks. It shouldn't. Not when you were the one who inevitably asked for space.
He reaches behind you for his jacket, and just when your heart clenches at the thought of him taking it away, he covers your body with it again.
"Wear this," he says, smiling at you. He glances at your lips again and you bite them. He tries to swallow the groan low in his throat, but it fucking hurts him to do it when all he wants to do is let it roar. All for you. He sighs. "I'm..." A smile threatens to split his lips as he shyly looks at you. "Sorry." The thickening of his accent makes you laugh so loudly that the sound bounces off the walls. Jimin grins. "I'm going to figure it out with her. Can you... will you wait for me?"
A swift loop of your heart tells you the answer.
"You know where to find me, Jimin."
. . .
Less than a week later, you are freshly showered, hair dried, and comfortable as you sit in front of your small dresser inside your bedroom. Following the events of Monday morning, Hudson had democratically voted Andie out of the school paper by enlisting everyone in a group vote the very next day.
Some part of you felt sad when you received the news. No matter what occurred between the two of you, Andie is an insanely talented journalist. A few of the best pieces the Aberdeen Gazette had ever published were under her name. But Hudson had declared his decision final when you brought up the fact to him, and dismissed you from his office even when you told him you didn't care at all about the incident.
Thinking back to the event, you sigh as the mascara wand in your hand shakes. Maybe, if you push Hudson hard enough, he would budge today. Or you could even enlist Kelly's help. The girl is one of the shiest people you know, but she knows how to get through to Hudson better you ever could.
As you're contemplating how to approach the subject with your superior, the door of your bedroom slams open. A breath catches in your throat out of fear of an intrusion. But when you stand up, your heart booms for a different reason.
It's Jimin, and he's headed straight for you.
The mascara wand in your hand patters on the dresser, smearing black ink in wayrward directions, as the boy you have been dreaming about non-stop lately swings an arm around your waist and brings you into a searing kiss.
He plants his lips on yours so quickly that you gasp, but he takes it in stride. He does not miss a beat as he eventually wraps both arms around you and kisses you and kisses you until the need for air threatens to rip your lungs.
A goofball smile paints his lips in various colours when you finally get a good look at him. He's clasing your waist still, but his free hand reaches for your cheek. There, he breezes the backs of his knuckles across the warm skin, leaving it even hotter than before.
"Hi," he greets, utterly nonchalant, though he smiles like a fool. There is a glint in his eyes which pierces your heart the tiniest bit. "Did you have a good morning?"
"It just started," you croak out, blinking so quickly and trying to gather your thoughts. There so many damn butterflies. So many. "What are you doing here?"
"I'm here to see you." He pecks your lips then cranes his head downwards to see the makeup and skincare items lined up along your dresser. "Are you going somewhere?"
"To class."
He smiles, nods, then helps you settle back into your earlier position on the chair. He takes a seat on the edge of the bed closeby. It's close enough that your chair hides between his legs.
Without a word, Jimin picks up the discarded mascara wand and holds it up to your lashes. He inspects each of them quietly, then realizes it's your left which has yet to be painted. With practiced ease, he holds the side of your face and applies two coats to your lashes. The touch of his skin on yours heats you up everywhere—from the tip of your head all the way down to your toes.
"Jimin—"
"I broke up with her that morning," he cuts in, tilting his head to inspect his work. Once satisfied, he places the wand back inside the tube and puts it down on the dresser. He's smiling. "Don't worry, I'm not sad. We weren't going out for long anyways." His smile saddens a bit. "I never wanted to date her to begin with. But she asked and I couldn't figure out if it was right to ask you out, so I just..."
Nodding, you don't press him further. Mostly because you're not certain if your heart can take another bomb like the one he just exploded with his confession. He wanted to ask you out?
Jimin glances down at the fist clenched around two tubes of lip tint in your lap. He grins as he looks up again.
"Which one do you want me to apply?"
"You choose."
He coaxes your fist open then examines both tubes for a moment. Then easily, he picks the slightly redder one and throws the other behind you. It lands with a soft crash on the dresser, but you're nor really paying attention. There's just far too much going on in front of you to notice.
Quietly, you move closer to his body so he can apply the tint on your lips, heart thudding as you go, when Jimin surprises you by pulling the stick out and slathering it on his own lips instead.
A snort flies out of you as the red blooms.
"Come on," he jests, shutting the tube closed and tilting his head cutely. "Don't you need to finish getting ready?"
The decision to throw your arms around him is a carnal and elated one. He catches you so effortlessly, laughing and giddy, as you fall back with him on the bed with your lips pressed tight against his. He grins on your mouth and you smile back only for a second because there is just no way you are about to miss out on kissing him right now.
He gathers you in his arms and brings you closer to him, meeting your every fevered kiss with strength and desire. His tongue invades your mouth several times, and at one point, it even feels like he's feasting on you entirely.
It's perfect. It's him. And it's everything you could ever want.

“Surprise! Your favorite is here now!” A melodic voice rings out behind you in the courtyard, and you skeptically cross your arms in front of your chest as you turn to face him. He pouts at your serious expression, frowning down at you over the rim of his sunglasses. “Why the face?”
“Where’s the kid?”
“I asked first, but he’s fine.” He draws out the last vowel, throwing his head to the side casually. You track his lanky, carefree movements with a narrow stare that Suguru would be proud of. “I put him in one of the spare rooms for the night.”
Your eyes widen in disbelief. “And then you just left him?”
“Like I said, he’ll be fine. He’s a tough kid.” He gives you one of those heart-stuttering sly grins, but you’re too exasperated to dwell on how handsome he looked.
“He’s four, Satoru, and fatherless. You’re not doing very well with this whole ‘mentor’ thing so far.” You shake your head, turning on your heel and heading for the dorms. Satoru falls into step next to you, still attempting to flirt some affection out of you, but you’re unbreakable. “Remind me his name again?”
“Fushiguro Megumi.”
“And his dad–”
“Tried to kill me.”
“But you–”
“Killed his dad, and bought him from the Zenin clan to train here.” He finishes your sentences naturally and patiently, opening the door for you as you approach the boys’ dorms. “I put him in here,” Satoru says, guiding you through the halls to a room in the back corner of the building.
“You really put him all by himself in the back?” Your chest hurt at the idea of a little elementary school boy alone in the dank halls of the building.
“Nanami said he didn’t want to be bothered by a child all night.” Of course he did, and of course, Satoru listened.
“Neither of you know how to handle children. Where’s his sister?”
“With relatives on his mom’s side. I’ll be in contact with them at some point.” You nod, reaching for the door handle when he stops you, slender fingers wrapping around your wrist. “Whatcha doing?”
“I’m gonna talk to him, Satoru. Sorcerer or not, he’s probably terrified of being in a new place with people he doesn’t know.” A thoughtful look crosses Satoru’s face, and he reluctantly releases you.
“Fine. But be warned; he’s not the most talkative kid.” He shrugs, leaning against the dead end of the hallway to wait.
You find Megumi lying awake on the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling. Spiky black hair falls around his face, and the blanket looks oversized for his small body. He sits up carefully when you open the door, pulling back the covers and sitting cross legged as you kneel in front of him.
“Hi, Megumi.” He’s silent, eyeing you warily with a guarded expression. You smile warmly and look at him as softly as possible. God knows how Satoru was acting with him before he came to you. You introduce yourself and watch his eyes twinkle when you mention that you’re a student at Jujutsu Tech. “I’m the same age as Satoru, that guy who brought you here.”
“He’s weird.”
You can’t help snickering, especially when you know that Satoru was probably eavesdropping from the other side of the wall. The scowl plastered across his face is probably very entertaining. “I know; he is pretty weird. But you’ll grow to like him, I promise. Are you hungry?”
“No. He bought me McDonalds.”
“I see. What’s your favorite thing at McDonalds?”
“I like chicken. He ate four burgers.” His voice stays relatively even, but the corner of his mouth quirks up when he describes the ungodly amount of Big Macs Satoru consumed.
“Yeah, he’s…like that. Well, I just wanted to check on you before you fell asleep, if you needed anything? A glass of water or something?” Megumi falls silent, eyes flicking around the room anxiously. He wrings his fingers, adjusting his seat on the bed and avoiding your gaze. He must have been nervous to be sleeping in a new place, in a bed he didn’t know and surrounded by strangers.
You redirect your attention to the open air beside you, spreading your fingers and summoning a small black portal on the floor. “I have a few things for you, if you’d like them.” Despite his hesitancy, innocent eyes peek over the edge of the bed to the void on the floor, fascinated. You reach your hand into the portal, feeling the cold air on your forearm while you rummage around for Megumi’s gifts. Your fingers find faux-fur and you pull out a stuffed gray wolf with pointy ears in a sitting position. His mouth falls open in surprise, boyish and sweet. You reach back in again a few more times, retrieving a blanket, a toothbrush, and a nightlight that cast constellations on the ceiling.
Megumi’s eyes zero in on the wolf, and you hold it out for him to take. His fingers delicately sink into the plush fur, and your heart feels a little lighter as he places it on his lap, leaning over the edge at the other goodies you’d pulled from your domain. Even if he was technically a Zenin child, to you, he was just a little boy whose curiosity got the better of him. As you continue to wordlessly hand him items, you see him visibly relax, examining the nightlight and fiddling with the corner of his blanket.
You clear your throat, keeping your voice as gentle as possible. “I know you don’t know anything about techniques yet, but if my research is semi-correct, the first shikigami you’ll be able to summon are dogs. I picked this little guy up for you to have. If you don’t like it or don’t want it, I can get you something different–”
“I like it.” His soft voice quickly cuts you off, and he hugs the toy closer to his chest as if you were going to take it from him. “I want to keep it.”
You smile at him, and he finally meets your gaze with less fear than minutes earlier. “Okay,” you nod. “I’m happy you like it.”
He’s barely able to murmur a “thank you” before the door aggressively slides open and Satoru dramatically drapes himself in the doorway. You and Megumi stare at him, unentertained by his theatrics. “Alright, kid, that’s enough chit-chat. Time for bed.”
“I am in bed.” As Megumi fires off replies, you reach over and plug in his nightlight. Little stars scatter across the ceiling in different shades of yellow and blue.
“You know what I mean. Time for you to go to sleep.”
“You just want your friend back,” Megumi states boredly and you bite back a smirk at Satoru’s reddening face. The boy looks at you, down at his wolf, and back at Satoru. “I like them better than you.”
You snort, and Satoru looks like he’s been shot, throwing a hand over his heart in agony. “Cast out by my own kin. How cruel fate is!”
“I’m not related to you.”
“That’s not the point, Megumi.”
“You said during dinner that was the whole point.”
“You’re putting words in my mouth.” Children, you think. A child arguing with a taller child.
Your hand reaches out to lightly ruffle Megumi’s hair and you rise from the floor. “Sorry, Satoru. You heard the kid– I’m his favorite.” You wink at Megumi, laying out the blanket and patting the pillow to encourage him to lie down. “Unfortunately, he’s right. It’s time for sleep. We’ll be around in the morning to get you, okay? And then maybe we can get some breakfast. How’s that sound?”
Megumi nods, curling his body around the stuffed wolf and letting you pull the covers over him. His eyes find the star-shaped projections on the ceiling and trace invisible shapes on them. Satoru’s arm naturally wraps around your shoulders as you make to exit the dorm, but before you step out, you hear Megumi’s tiny voice in the darkness.
“Goodnight.”
You can still slightly see him from the glow of the rising moon, and you smile over your shoulder. “Goodnight, Megumi.”
As Satoru walks you back to your dorm, his arm doesn’t leave its place around your body. If anything, he pulls you closer, and you let him. He’s taken his sunglasses off, allowing the light of the stars to reflect off of his hair and his vibrantly blue eyes. You always thought Satoru looked most handsome at night, and tonight was no different. Allowing yourself to consider him like you were was walking a fine line between friends and more than friends, and you weren’t sure if you were ready to cross it.
“I’m just irresistible tonight, aren’t I?” His teasing snaps you out of your love-struck daydream, grounding you back to the present. He must have caught you staring.
“You’re definitely something, Satoru.” He hums smugly, and you look at him out of the corner of your eye. “What’s so funny?”
“Nothing. Just find it cute that I rendered you without a spunky remark for the first time.”
“You’re gonna get a lot more than a spunky remark if you keep looking like that, asshole.” You poke his side and he yelps, contorting away from you like one of those car dealership inflatables. You can’t help the giggle that falls from your lips and Satoru can definitely see the heart-eyes you were giving him. For once, the mutual flirting seemed that it might actually mean something tonight. You reach your dorm, and Satoru follows you in without invitation like he’d done hundreds of times before.
“You’re really good with the kid.” His limbs stretch out as he flops onto the covers while you slip off your shoes. “How do you do it?”
You toss sleeping clothes on the bed, debating on aiming for the white-haired idiot on it. “I just pretend he’s you.”
“That’s rude. Are you calling me a toddler?”
“That’s exactly what I’m calling you, Satoru. This whole thing is a little kid taking care of a slightly smaller kid.” You stand between his legs with your hands on your hips, and he sits up to look at you. For once, he needed to look up at you, and you’d be lying if you said you didn’t like it.
“I’m not nervous, if that’s what you’re wondering.” Gojo Satoru doesn’t get nervous about anything, you know, but it was still a bold move to basically adopt a child right out of high school. Even for him.
“You’re not?” He shakes his head confidently, peering up at you with those stupidly bright blue eyes. “How?”
“Because I have you.” Your stomach does a backflip. “I never get nervous because I have you.” His hand finds its way into yours, and you bring up your free hand to caress his cheek with your thumb. You guess tonight was the night to cross the line.
“Did you just baby-trap me with a child that is neither of ours, Satoru?” Your hand cups his face, and he leans into your touch.
“Oops.” You chuckle, letting him pull you closer until he’s able to press his lips up to yours. As he stands at his full height, his hand comes to tilt your chin upward while your arms slide around his neck. You stay there for a few moments, drowning in the overwhelming presence of his body. “I think we’re gonna be great at this whole parenting thing,” he murmurs against your lips when you pull back to breathe.
“I can’t believe the way you ask to date me is with an orphan. That’s emotional manipulation.”
“I call it effective persuasion.” You shake your head at his antics, and he presses a feather-light kiss to your temple. You sigh, face falling in disappointment as you check the time.
“Alright, get out.” Your hands reluctantly press against his chest to no avail. He never turned on Infinity around you, but he was immovable on his own.
“Ouch, tired of me already?”
“That, and we’re taking Megumi to breakfast tomorrow. For all three of our sakes, you need to try to rest.”
“Scared that I’m gonna die and adopt my murderer’s kid again?”
“Don’t even joke about that. You can’t just kiss me and then die. It’s not fair,” your mumbles trail off when Satoru kisses you tenderly one last time, nudging your nose with his.
“You’re a menace.”
“I know you love it.”
“I guess I do.”

summary: you finally got hired to work as a teacher for your dream school, jujutsu high. everything was perfect until you ran into gojo satoru, your first love and heartbreak.
a/n: angst + fluff, female reader. this is the first time I've written a story more on the angsty side, so please let me know if you like it : ) I was feeling angsty after listening to eternal sunshine and bam this story suddenly came to me

~
When you caught a glance at that familiar shade of blue, you froze. That specific hue was a color you avoided at all costs, the color of heartbreak and dreams you never followed.
He looked at you, and suddenly you were 18 again. It was simultaneously the best and worse year of your life; the year you fell in love with Satoru, and the year he left you.
Your heartbeat felt sickening in your own chest as he walked towards you, his eyes widened and jaw slacked as if he were in a trance. Like he hadn’t expected to see you again.
It’s not like you thought you’d see him again either. You had told yourself that even if you did, it wouldn’t hurt, because you’d moved on. It had been years since you gave up on him, so you should be feeling nothing as your first love came to a halt in front of you, gazing at you as if you were the only thing that mattered to him.
It didn’t feel like nothing, though. It felt a whole like despair, relief, and joy warring with each other, causing your fingertips to tremble as if your body couldn’t decide which emotion to settle on.
“Long time no see, Gojo,” you said, attempting to offer a warm smile. Though the tremulous note to your voice must have betrayed how you were truly feeling.
He frowned ever so slightly when you said his name, like he wasn’t used to you calling him by his last name. It was formal and cold - when things between you two used to be anything but.
“You’re here,” he said, though it sounded like he was saying it to himself rather than talking to you.
“Ah, Gojo. I see you’ve met our newest hire. She’ll be working with your students for the summer, I imagine you two will be working together closely,” the principal said. But Gojo wasn’t looking at him. You still felt the heavy weight of his gaze, like he was scared you’d disappear if he looked away.
“Why don’t you two grab lunch together? Gojo can catch you up on his students,” the principal said. So why did your body go rigid at his harmless suggestion?
“Sorry, I have to make a phone call during lunch! Gojo, feel free to email me any details I need to know,” you said quickly, smiling before you darted towards the courtyard.
You cursed yourself for running away, like a coward. What was there to be afraid of? He was someone you loved years ago, and time washed away any lingering feelings you had for him…right?
At least that’s what you’d always told yourself. But maybe deep down, you feared some of those feelings would never go away. And that they’d definitely resurface if you let yourself be near him, if you let yourself remember how much he used to mean to you. How badly he hurt you.
You shook your head, hoping the crisp morning air would wash some sense into you. This position was your dream job, and you weren’t gonna let your past demons take that away from you. You could be civil, you could work with him like the mature adult you were. It would be okay.

“I wonder if our new teach would tell me where she gets her lipgloss?” Nobara asked aloud, walking in step with Yuji and Megumi as they filed out of the classroom.
“She’s really pretty,” Yuji said, smiling cheesily. It was a buzz amongst all the students actually, how beautiful the newest teacher was. The students warmed up to her quickly, captivated by her knowledge and how easy she was to talk to.
“Gojo always looks like he’s in a trance whenever he sees her,” Megumi said, making his two companions snap their attention to him.
“Do you think they’re dating?!” Nobara nearly yelled, her eyes widening comically.
“Maybe not. They both look kinda sad when they look at each other and they think the other person isn’t looking,” Megumi noted, looking deep in thought.
“Woah, you’re so observant. Maybe they’re exes, I heard they knew each other when they were younger,” Yuji said.
“Eh? No way sensei could pull someone like her,” Nobara said.
~
Two weeks have passed since you began teaching, and you loved it. Plus, you’d managed to have as minimal contact with Gojo as possible. Things would be fine after all.
You stepped into the teacher’s lounge, eager to grab your bag and head back home now that the day was over. But your bag wasn’t on the hook where you usually hung it up. When you turned around however, Gojo was leaning against the doorframe, taking up nearly the entire frame.
“Can I help you with something, Gojo?” you asked politely, willing your heart to settle down at his proximity.
“Can we talk?” he asked, and there it was again. The inexplicable feeling that swarmed your senses whenever you heard the sound of his voice, no matter what he was saying. Your traitorous body responded to it no matter how much you told it not to.
“Um, tomorrow might be better during our free period! I’m actually looking for my…” you began, stopping your sentence as Gojo used two fingers to effortlessly lift your heavy bag.
“I’ll give this back to you when you agree to have dinner with me. Tonight,” he said, flashing a boyish smile at you that was oh so painfully familiar.
“You can’t be serious,” you said, crossing your arms as Gojo took another step towards you. He was so close, and much taller than you remembered. He seemed to take up the entirety of the room you were in, making it harder to breathe and think clearly.
“I thought you knew me better than that, tea. I absolutely am,” he drawled, and the butterflies in your stomach swarmed at the mention of his old nickname for you. Hearing it used to fill you with love and light, because he began calling you the endearment after learning how much you adored tea. He’d often show up at your door with your favorite drinks, happily indulging in your obsession.
You blinked the memory away, refocusing your gaze back to the man in front of you.
“This isn’t funny,” you said, reaching towards your bag. He lifted it up and out of your reach easily.
“What isn’t funny is how you’ve been avoiding me since you got here. Why can you barely look me in the eye?” he said, the slight hurt in his voice hitting your heart. Your eyes darted around the room in a panic before you answered.
“Can you really blame me? We don’t have the best history,” you said, your voice coming off harsher than you intended.
“That’s what I want to clear up. Just hear me out this once, please,” he said, his tone softening as he spoke. You hated it, how quickly you could feel yourself giving into him. After a beat of silence, you spoke.
“Just this once,” you murmured, your voice barely above a whisper.
There it was. That familiar, triumphant upturn of his lips.
~
You second guessed your choice as you walked towards Gojo’s car - a sleek, navy luxury car you remember he’d gotten for his 18th birthday. But there was no way he didn’t have other cars by now, so you couldn’t help but wonder if he picked this car today on purpose.
He swiftly opened the door to the passenger seat, allowing you to slip in before he slid into the drivers seat.
There was something undeniably intimate about being alone in the car with him. Being in such close quarters meant you could smell the cologne clinging to his skin, the minty remnants of the mints he always carried with him. You felt bespelled watching his long fingers wrap around the wheel, blushing as he wrapped his arm around your headrest and leaned towards you to look behind him as he backed out of the spot.
A memory flooded towards you. Of a freshly 18-year old Gojo excitedly picking you up in his shiny new car, nearly getting you into a car crash as he carelessly spun the wheel in his excitement. You’d given him a firm talking to about him being careful, and he smiled at you sheepishly before he walked you to get ice cream.
The sound of buttons clicking pulled you from your reverie. You watched wordlessly as Gojo set the seat warmer to the lowest setting and turned the ac up to 71, the exact settings you used to switch them to whenever you were his passenger princess.
“Is that still how you like it?” he asked, casting you a quick sideways glance before returning his eyes to the road. You wondered if you imagined the hopeful note to his voice.
“Yes,” you answered quietly.
Oh , I definitely still like it, you thought, eyes roaming across Gojo’s figure as he drove. His seat was leaned back to make room for his long legs, and he kept one hand on the wheel as he drove with the elegant ease he must’ve developed in your time apart. It was stupid, how attracted you still were to him.
You didn’t miss the way Gojo glanced at you ogling him, the corner of his lip tipping up like it so pleased him.
~
You followed Gojo into a gorgeous restaurant that you were undoubtedly underdressed for. A smartly dressed man greeted the two of you immediately, leading you to a table right in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows. It offered you a gorgeous view of the skyline, the soft glow of the sunset making the silverware sparkle.
You couldn’t help but look around in confusion at the quietness of the restaurant - save for the nice host, you were the only ones there.
“I booked out the place for the night. So we could catch up in peace,” Gojo said easily, as if that were something normal to do. You couldn’t say you were too surprised though, as he had the same penchant for spending and the fortune to back it since he was younger.
“Of course you did,” you said, shaking your head as you smiled to yourself.
Gojo leaned forward in his seat, studying you like you just performed magic.
“I’ve missed that smile of yours,” he said softly. It wasn’t fair, the way the last bits of sunshine of the day lit up the gold flecks in his eyes. The way his hair nearly shone silver, making him look otherworldly as he told you he missed you.
“I don’t know what to say to you, Gojo,” you said, forcing neutrality into your tone. But as soon as you spoke the words, you could hear how sad they sounded.
“Do you hate me?” he asked, sounding like his younger self once more.
You met his eyes, releasing a deep breath as you did your best to offer a smile.
“I don’t think I could ever hate you,” you admitted, watching the way his shoulders eased ever so slightly.
“But you hurt me,” you said, voice barely above a whisper.
“I was ready to stick out long distance when you moved away. You stopped answering my calls, responding to my letters. I tried reaching you for months before I gave up, Gojo. There was no goodbye, no explanation. What was I supposed to think? How do you expect me to greet you with a smile now as if nothing happened?” you said, your voice cracking towards the end.
“I know we were 18 and stupid, but I…”
I loved you. You were everything to me. And no matter how much time had past, how much you dated around, no one ever compared to you.
You shook your head, unable to get the words out.
It would forever be fresh in your mind, the day you found out Gojo was being shipped off to a different country by his stupid family to train.
The devastation was overwhelming. You curled up in your room, crying into your pillow as Gojo sat silently on the edge of your bed.
“Do you really have to go?” you sniffed, though it didn’t sound like that, with your throat clogged with tears.
Gojo laid beside you, pulling your back to his chest as he held you and buried his face in your hair.
“I don’t have a choice, tea. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry,” he whispered, his voice breaking off at the end. You turned around, wrapping your arms around him as he held you brusingly tight. You rubbed his back as you felt his tears hit your shoulder.
After the cry you both needed, you faced each other silently, as if you were committing each other to memory.
“I won’t give up on us. I’ll call you everyday to bug the hell out of you,” he said, giving you the first lopsided smile of the night.
“For how long, though?” you said sadly, feeling the hope leeching out of you with each word you said aloud.
“For as long as it takes for me to become the strongest. And for you to become the teacher you’ve always wanted to be. I’ll come back for you,” he promised, lacing his long fingers through yours. There was hope alight in those eyes of his, convincing your own hope to stay.
“You promise?” you asked, sounding so much more like a young child than you wished.
“I promise.” he said, and you kissed him then. There was something so magnetic about him, the type of person that made you want to believe anything was possible. But you hadn’t known that would be the last time you kissed.
You had no way of knowing that your boyfriend would keep up with his promise for a month, and then suddenly leave you with nothing. He stopped responding to your letters, stopped his calls, stopped reminding you how much he loved you. The only time you ever heard about him was when the news featured his growing talents.
The sound of Gojo’s voice ripped you away from the memory.
“You have every right to be upset with me,” he began, his cerulean eyes betraying his grief.
“Was there someone else?” you asked before you could think better, cursing yourself.
“No,” he said forcefully, wincing like it hurt him for you to think that.
“There was never anyone else. Never,” he said, and you couldn’t help the relief flooding your chest.
“They got in my head about you. Convinced me that I was holding you back, that you could never focus on school enough to become a teacher good enough to teach at Jujutsu High if you were in a long distance relationship with me. I thought I was doing what was best for you,” he said, his voice low and regretful as he spoke.
The man across from you blurred as tears filled your vision. You spent months agonizing over the possible reasons he would abandon your relationship, and your young, heartbroken self was convinced it had something to do with you. That he found someone, and suddenly you weren't his cup of tea anymore. Never did it cross your mind that he thought he was doing you a favor by ghosting you.
“God, Gojo. Why didn’t you just talk to me?” you cried, doing nothing to mask the grief in your voice.
“I knew you’d tell me that it was incredibly stupid of me. And I know it was now, but back then I thought it would be easier if I made the choice for you. You deserved to have your full focus on pursuing teaching,” he said solemnly, lifting a hand towards your face as if he were going to wipe your tears, but laying his hand back down like he thought against it.
“You’re right, that was incredibly stupid of you,” you said, heaving a deep breath as your swiped the last of your tears.
“But I get why you did it. I just wish you would’ve included me in that choice, because you know what I thought? I thought if you could discard me, discard us that easily, that I must’ve not meant as much to you as you meant to me. That you didn’t love me as much as I loved you,” you said shakily, a single traitorous tear falling down your cheek.
Your emotions overwhelmed you as you saw his eyes begin to shine with unshed tears - a sight that hurt you as much as it did when you were both 18.
“I never stopped loving you,” he said, his voice hushed as he made the confession.
It felt like you were no longer in your own body as emotions assaulted you all at once. Happiness, relief, confusion, devastation. They warred with each other, and you didn’t know if the burst of nerves you were feeling was panic or excitement.
“You don’t mean that. Maybe you still love who I was when I was 18, but things are different now. I’m different,” you said, watching as Gojo shook his head softly.
“You’re right. You have become even more beautiful than I remember,” he began, and you knew you had lost. This wasn’t a game, but somehow you still lost.
“I’ve seen the way you work with the kids. I’m in awe of how confident and capable you’ve become. But I’ve also seen what hasn’t changed,” he said, leaning towards you with the light back in his eyes.
“Your tenacity. Your kindness. Your intelligence. Your drive. The way your eyes light up when you teach, the way you see the best in people. That’s how I fell in love with you, and I know thats still there,” he said, looking at you with the kind of reverence you forgot existed.
You closed your eyes as you failed at calming your thunderous heart.
“I can’t do this, Gojo. I can’t put myself in a position to be hurt by you again,” you said, casting your eyes down in your lap. You couldn’t bear to see defeat in his eyes.
You jolted as you felt the soothing, painfully familiar touch of his hand over yours.
“Look at me,” he pleaded softly, coaxing your eyes back towards his. When you met them again, they were filled with warmth, and you believed it. That he still loved you.
“You don’t owe me anything. I’ll stay out of your way if that’s what you want. But I’m not taking back what I said. I’ve loved you since before you were mine. And I always will.” He finished you off by lifting your hand to his lips, a gesture you were still a used to be a sucker for.
~
In the days that followed, Gojo consumed your every thought. It didn’t help that you worked so closely, and it especially didn’t help to see how good he was with the students. He goofed around with them more than a normal teacher would, but he taught them earnestly. No matter how much they complained about his antics, you could tell your students loved him.
It also didn’t help when he began leaving your favorite milk tea on your desk before the start of every school day, earning you a “wow teach, you must really love that tea shop,” comment from Yuji.
It was slightly embarrassing, but you couldn’t deny how much it brightened your day to see that cup of tea sitting on your desk, knowing how much Gojo still thought of you. And it didn’t stop at tea.
Over the course of the next month, your favorite flowers began showing up with your tea. Sometimes, instead of flowers it was your favorite candy. Gojo never lingered around to hand them to you himself, just giving you sweet smiles and waves whenever you locked eyes. You knew it was his way of giving you space to choose, and no matter how cheesy it was, it was working.
~
It was about 3 months after that dinner that you found yourself sitting with the principal for your quarterly one-on-one. You were pleased to hear the praises of your work and the positive feedback he’d received from students regarding you, but something in particular he said had you shaken up.
“I knew you and Gojo would work well together. You both had very moving reasons for wanting to teach here,” he said casually.
“Moving reasons?” you pressed, feeling like you were on the verge of something.
“Oh, yes. I was highly impressed by your years of dedication and experience, you were an obvious choice. But Gojo didn’t have much teaching experience when I hired him, it was really his reason for teaching that sold me on him,” he answered. And you didn’t know why, but your pulse grew uncomfortably quick.
“He told me that teaching helped him feel close to someone he loved. And that person taught him how powerful a good teacher could be,” the principal said. There was a beat of silence, followed by the screeching sound your chair made and you sat up suddenly. You apologized and excused yourself, rushing towards a certain office door.
Your movements were too quick for your thoughts to catch up. You just knew you had to see him.
He wasn’t in his office. Not in his classroom, not in the teacher’s lounge. That sickening panic began invading your senses, reminding you that it wasn’t the first time you desperately searched for Gojo and couldn’t find him.
But you pushed past it and kept walking. You walked until you reached the outer edge of campus, spotting a flash of silver hair atop a hill that overlooked the school.
You ran towards it like your life depended on it, huffing and puffing until you finally locked gazes with the most beautiful eyes you have ever seen. Though the eyes that normally regarded you with warmth were unusually widened with concern as Gojo ran towards you.
“Hey, whats going on-”
“Why did you become a teacher?” you said, struggling to catch your breath. Gojo looked stunned for a second, staring at you silently as he waited for you to continue.
“Why did you decide to work for Jujutsu High, out of all the high schools in Japan?” you continued, watching as his expression turned pensive. But his eyes shone with all the words he’d yet to say.
“I didn’t intend on becoming a teacher. I just gave it a shot one day, because I knew how passionate you were about it. And I loved it,” he said, staring out wistfully towards the lecture halls.
“As for why I picked Jujutsu High,” he began, turning his body towards you again. He walked to you, stopping until there was barely a step of space between your bodies.
“I picked it because I knew this was your dream school to work at. I hoped I would see you again if I worked here,” he admitted, smiling sadly. You shook your head in disbelief.
“This was my dream school when I was 18. What if I changed my mind and worked somewhere else? What if I didn’t even become a teacher?” you said frantically, searching for a crack in his resolve.
Gojo reached out, cupping your cheek in his hand. You had no choice but to tilt your head up to meet his, feeling new emotions flooding you at the look in his eyes.
“Doesn’t matter. The thought of seeing you again is what has kept me going all these years. Even if I mean nothing to you now,” he breathed, removing his hand from your cheek. He stepped away from you, giving you the space you realized you no longer wanted.
You didn’t know if you wanted to laugh or cry at this new revelation. But you did know one thing; you wanted Gojo Satoru. You wanted another shot with him.
Before you could talk yourself out of it, you launched yourself at him, wrapping your arms around him tightly and burying your face into his chest. He smelled like mint and summer and everything good with the world as his arms immediately came up to hold you to him.
He released a shaky breath as he held you, like he couldn’t believe he’d get to do it again.
“Of course you still mean something to me,” you whispered through tears you didn’t realize you were shedding. Gojo gently pulled back from your hug, capturing both your face between his hands. He swiped his thumbs gently against your tears, that reverent, warm gaze back in those eyes of his.
“What should I make of that, tea?” he asked, tucking an errant strand of hair behind your ear. You realized how much you missed his touch, how you’ve longed to feel his smooth, porcelain skin against yours again.
“You’re gonna have to work reallyyyy hard if you want me to fall in love with you again,” you said, smiling as his eyes widened and his jaw slacked.
Liar. It wouldn’t take much at all.
“You’re giving me another chance?” he said incredulously. You nodded shyly, smiling as Gojo awarded you with the most brilliant, heart-stopping smile. The kind that crinkled his eyes at the corners, the kind that stretched his cheeks, the kind that you had no choice but to mirror.
The breath left your body as Gojo lifted you up by your hips, swinging you around in a circle like the last scene of a Disney movie where the prince and princess reunited.
It felt like a weight was released from your shoulders as he spun you around, the two of you laughing like teenagers again.
“Thank you,” he whispered, pressing a soft kiss to the top of your head.

“They have to be dating, there’s no way they’re not!” Nobara exclaimed, walking to get food with the other first years after class.
“Gojo sensei follows her around like a puppy. I could actually see hearts in his eyes when he looks at her! I swore I even heard her call him Toru,” Yuji said, him and Nobara nodding to each other intently.
“Maybe. Our new teacher has been looking really happy lately,” Megumi said.

Izuku slumped onto the couch, hand holding a glass filled with some pink drink that Ochako had pushed into his hand. He sniffed it. It smelt fine.
Shouto came down to sit beside him and Izuku immediately smiled. "Are you not going to be drinking this?" he asked, pointing to the sparkling pink drink.
Shouto made a face and Izuku's smile widened even more. He knew that Shouto was a lightweight. It was still fun to tease him.
"I saw Kaminari walk in with three different bottles earlier and I do not want to try any," Shouto said. "And," Shouto started a little shyly, "I should be asking this while sober."
Izuku turned to look at Shouto who looked a little nervous. "What is it?" he asked.
Shouto rested his head on the headrest, his head still turned towards Izuku so, Izuku mimicked his movement until both their heads were resting against the plush fabric of the couch and facing against each other.
"I was going to ask you much earlier but Bakugou had decided we make you a suit, so I'd waited until it was ready," Shouto said, all while holding eye contact. Izuku nodded, prodding him to continue.
Shouto smiled. "Would you start a hero agency with me?"
Izuku jerked forward in surprise and sloshed some of the pink drink onto his hand. He placed the glass on a nearby table, embarrassed, before going back to staring in shock at Shouto.
"You want to start an agency with 𝘮𝘦?"
Shouto flushed. "Well, of course, if you don't want to, I don't mind at all. But, yes, I'd love to start an agency with you."
Izuku shook his head vigorously. "No, I'd love that, too! But, aren't you worried that I became a hero just a week ago and am still a teacher?"
Shouto looked at him quizzically. "You've always been a hero," Shouto said and Izuku couldn't help but feel his cheeks flush with warmth. "And," Shouto continued, "you being a teacher isn't trouble at all. I think it's for the better. I don't know many rules. Even if I did, I might end up breaking them."
Izuku is suddenly reminded of Hosu from years ago, of them breaking a law and if Shouto immediately going to fight with the head of the police department. It wasn't a pleasant memory but, it still brought a smile to his face.
"Also," Shouto said, "your suit looks very nice. 𝘠𝘰𝘶 look very nice."
Izuku let out a startled laugh. "Are we trying flattery now?" he asked Shouto, who was grinning freely at him.
"Yes," Shouto replied. "Is it working?"
"Maybe," Izuku lied, because it was 𝘥𝘦𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘺 working. He looked over at Shouto, who was looking at him with such a soft look that Izuku knew that he could never deny him.
"Okay," Izuku agreed.
Shouto looked at him, surprised. "Okay?"
Izuku smiled. "Okay."
