Live Door News has just published a great interview with Rohan’s voice actor (and my favorite VA of all time), Takehiro Sakurai. Here are some highlights from the interview:

Sakurai has been reading Weekly Shōnen Jump since childhood and not only did he accompany JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’s serialization from the beginning but he also read some of Araki’s early works and although he wasn’t a massive fan of JoJo at first, he was intrigued by the way Araki broke conventions by having a new protagonist in each part of the story;

His favorite JoJo part is Diamond is Unbreakable due to it being mostly a murder-mystery tale and his favorite character is Tonio Trussardi, whose stand he believes would be extremely useful in real life;

Sakurai has never met Araki in person, and when asked if Araki was older than him (which he is, Araki is 59 and Sakurai is 45), he said Araki actually became immortal after using a certain stone mask;

His first impression of Rohan was hilariously bad, describing him as “disgusting” but he’s since come to appreciate the character for his pride and dedication to his own work;

His favorite Rohan quote is the infamous “I refuse”;

The voice work for the OVA The Run was a difficult process due to all the running and panting involved for the character of Rohan, something Sakurai accomplished by exerting his own breathing in multiple ways;

He’s really looking forward to more Rohan OVAs being animated, especially Poaching Seashore, since it features the return of his favorite Part 4 character, Tonio!
