Siblings by Bond
I had this idea, what if Dream and Drista were not blood siblings, but instead adopted siblings, like Dream declaring a young borrower he saved as his sister? That’s where this came from, enjoy! (I needed to start writing more wholesome Dream content so here’s a starting point :3)

If you were to tell Dream or his parents little people exist, they would all act like you were crazy. That’s what Dream thought, little people, living in his very walls? How ridiculous! The 13 year old was playing video games on his computer, minding his own business, when suddenly he felt like someone was watching. He took off his headphones and looked to his door, thinking it was one of his parents. The door was shut. He paused his game and got up, looking around. He felt silly doing this, but it was worth a shot,
“Hello? Is someone there?” He called. A tiny and barely audible gasp caught his attention, coming from the bookshelf. He walked towards it carefully, and almost gasped at what he saw. A small creature with rodent like ears and a thin tail with a fluffy tip at the end almost like a lion’s stepped into view. She was human looking with oddly stitched together clothing and a paper clip at her side bent like a hook. The poor thing looked hungry and terrified.
“H-hello,” she spoke quietly and fearfully as Dream’s eyes widened. There was no way this was happening, right? Was this a little person?
“Hi, what are you doing in my room?” Dream asked.
“Oh! I Uhh, I needed some help, my momma, she hasn’t been home in days, and I don’t know how to borrow, please, I just want something to eat,” she sniffled.
Dream felt bad for the little girl, and he nodded,
“Okay, let me see what i can give you,” he said, walking away slowly from the bookshelf as to not scare away the tiny person. She watched him with curiosity and terror, at any moment he could decide to grab her, or do worse, and that was what she feared most.
Dream came back with a few potato chips, “it’s not much, I hope it helps you,” he offered her one, setting it on the bookshelf. She carefully grabbed it and scurried away, much to Dream’s amusement and surprise. “Goodbye,” he whispered, going back to his game.
The next day he was sat at his desk trying to do homework when he heard a tiny whisper. He looked back at the bookshelf, she was back. He got up slowly and grabbed a French fry from the bag on his desk, walking over to her and placing it down. She moved out of reach of him and watched him. It kinda hurt Dream to see her move away from him, but she did the same as yesterday, grabbing the food and disappearing with a quiet “thank you.” He really wished she would stay longer, he started brainstorming topics he could talk about to her. Maybe her mother? No, that would be rude. Introducing himself didn’t seem like a bad idea… did she like animals?
The next time he saw her he didn’t offer her food right away, she got scared thinking it was a trap.
“You know, I kinda want to talk with you, is that going to be okay with you?” He asked. She hesitated, was she going to run away? She sat down and nodded, she did want to talk! Dream gave a soft smile.
“Great. My name is Dream, what’s yours?” He asked.
“… Drista,” she said quietly.
“Nice name, I like it.” He smiled gently, barely able to contain his excitement. “If you don’t mind, Uhh, what are you exactly?” He asked gently.
She didn’t seem offended, she seemed rather surprised. “Im a borrower, I borrow from humans what I need to survive, well, I guess take is the right word…” she said, keeping her eyes on him. She must not trust him yet. He gave her some food and the two said goodbye.
This kept up for several weeks. Dream would bring up a variety for her, he knew she liked French fries, watermelon, grapes, cheese, and Cheetos. She didn’t like olives, pineapple on pizza (much to his disappointment >:V), or greasy foods however. He took careful notes of what she does and does not like, so he knew what to bring her the next day. Today he had brought her a cherry, but he wanted to try something. He met her at the usual spot on the bookshelf, offering her the cherry.
“I think we’ve known each other long enough that we can try this out,” he said, laying his hand flat and still as he presented the cherry to her, sitting in the palm of his hand.
Drista looked up at him, nervous he was going to close his hand around her and crush her or grab her and do something bad to her. She backed away and Dream frowned, sliding the fruit off his palm and onto the shelf.
“It’s okay, we can try again tomorrow, did anything interesting happen to you today?” He said calmly.
Over the next week he’d keep trying to coax her to his hand, and every time she would back down. Until a Tuesday afternoon. Dream expected her to shy away from the grape he was offering her, but this time she embraced his fingers, hugging them. Something was up.
“D-Drista? Are you okay?” He asked quietly. She looked up at him.
“Dream, you’re the only family I have right now, my momma is probably dead, she hasn’t been back in weeks.” She said softly. Dream smiled, a tear forming in the corner of his eye.
“C-can I pick you up?” He asked gently. She looked up at him, wide eyed, and Dream half expected her to run away. Instead she surprised him by clambering onto his fingers and crawling to sit in his palm, right next to the grape, which she happily picked up and started nibbling.
Dream gently lifted his hand and brought her close to his chest, walking back to his desk chair and sitting down. He smiled and rubbed her back with his thumb. The young Borrower seemed to like this motion as she relaxed, he could hear tiny popping coming from her (how could a 6 year old have that many knots?!) and saw her relax. This was the first time she was truly comfortable around him.
“So, you wanna talk to me while I study?” He asked. She nodded eagerly as he set his hand on the desk and she slid off, walking among the messy desk. After a few hours Dream covered a loud yawn with his hand, looking down at Drista who caught the yawn.
“It’s getting late, do you want me to put you back on the shelf?” He asked Drista. She shook her head.
“Could I sleep with you? I haven’t been sleeping good,” she asked somberly. Dream nodded and got up to grab his pajamas and get ready for bed. He came back a few minutes later in Patriot themed pajamas and offered his hand again. She didn’t hesitate to leap onto the warm fingers. Dream got in bed and turned off the light, placing Drista on his chest and covering her tiny body with his hand. This was a whole new level of trust here.
“Good night, big brother,” she yawned, falling asleep. Dream wanted to coo at her, she called him her big brother! And he was definitely going to live up to that title as he closed his eyes to sleep.
